  1. high picks is a relative term- outside von, they are all second and third tier. These are not top 10 elite investments and DE is a bit like qb- it’s hard to get them outside top picks
  2. it’s the manning/colts model. Get a lead, rush the passer and hope for a couple turnovers. forcing the defense to play stout against the run and pass seems like worst case scenario
  3. complementary football for this squad would be getting fast leads and hoping our safeties can ball hawk. Let edge rushers (and guys like ed o and Phillips) get up field. If the defense is going to be crippled by injury, let’s let these guys play more 1 dimensionally
  4. it’s the gap between celebrating with your teammates vs towards an opponent. It’s been a point of emphasis for a few years. I think back in 2021(?) it was a pretty heavy topic with a ton of flags for guys spinning the ball towards opponents, flexing while facing the opponents sideline and the tyreek situation. The simplest is go be happy for your accomplishments without addressing the guys on the other side. that Said, they created a monster with those 20 player 80 yard dashes to the camera
  5. I think he would like to see his defense face 7 drives instead of 9 drives
  6. yea, like Brady and manning didn’t fix their flawed dual threat running skills… oh, wait, you wouldn’t put them in a scheme relying on their speed because no qb is a robot that does 100% at all world levels so you play to what they do at those levels. it was a very strange sequence of comments
  7. what type of football do you think he’s referring to when saying complementary football? ball control and lower scoring old school wins or High flying so the defense can forget about the run aka Indy with Payton and the tampa 2?
  8. to be fair, they given you no opportunity to see what he could do
  9. Don’t forget fans needing to manage expectations? I think a little of all 3 issues depending on the player. honestly, I framed sherfield as a backup guy that we needed. Not producing a ton unless diggs or Davis missed time. I think that’s held true. I thought harty would take over the whole mckenzie/Hines package. I’m now realizing that package may not have existed with Dorsey. That’s a real disappointment. I think he’d be great going horizontally, on crossers or end arounds… or out of the backfield on wheel routes. Get him against a linebacker and let him run away.
  10. It’s not great, it’s not the worst but little is done to help them
  11. achane is drafted later, injured, and has less than 40 carries. Mostert is 31 and has 3k career yards. That we are not using cook as well is not the same as being the worst back. There lays my argument. durham smythe in Miami isn’t a better TE. The dolphins line wasnt great and they are down 2 starters. We are arguably better Better qb id take tyreek over diggs but we aren’t talking an embarrassing gap there we added their wr3 to be our wr3/4/5(?) is waddle vs Davis enough that Dorsey just doesn’t have to have expectations? The dolphins surely scheme better releases for receivers, creative running attacks and generally stress defenses much more than Dorsey does on a schematic level. It’s not just talent.
  12. challenge: Miami, SF, us, kc josh is probably 2nd among tua, purdy, mahomes, cook is likely behind cmc but otherwise? our TE situation is interesting in that we likely have the 3rd and 4th best in the group, assuming Kelce hasn’t hit a wall WR 1 is likely second best? WR2 is a weakness, but likely in line with kc offensive design? Solidly 4th. By a gap. let’s not pretend that we are out on left field barely surviving on skill position talent. Having those 3 ahead mean he’s not top 10%. I bet we could crowdsource another 3-6 without a ton of stress or debate and 6 more would mean he’s not too 30%. the guy has a long career ahead. He is the limitation currently though.
  13. I see that we have production but define “creativity” or “innovation” in that chart vs “possibly the most versatile qb in football” as an example of why I don’t think this addresses the topic.
  14. im sorry but I do feel our passing concepts are dated when you compare to the teams actually on the leading edge. And moving the wrong direction at that. compared to bills teams past, sure but compared to the shanahans, Reid’s and McDaniel’s of the nfl…. Not so creative.
  15. they all are long leashes until they are not. Especially if the coach has not given the owner a ring to make it permanent
  16. “hey we need a ball control offense” type of commentary would not be unusual from a HC
  17. Did Wilson just pass on a first to get his rb clobbered 5 yards short? Good times.
  18. he was past the player and waltzing into the end zone untouched. On this one you a wrong. It’s a silly line in the sand when a whole team can do a choreographed celebration inches from the defender but pointing to him was definitionally the rule.
  19. what about the several missed super bowls we’ve already experienced? Or do those not count as coming up short of potential because playoffs
  20. At this point he’s actually running the team like a defensive coordinator and not the head coach in some ways
  21. It was honestly the same or possible worse because he was actually being pressured
  22. Herbert was more egregious there throwing the out when the receiver whipped in honestly if I were McDermott I’d have been bordering on ejected after that call the finger point is the rule. You don’t get to celebrate towards an opponent like that. Tyreeks seen that flag, for instance. the trip sucked but real time and weird angles - whatever. the grounding was the strangest call I can recall. It was calling a ticky tack and non obvious PI on a Hail Mary for instance.
  23. No shock when missing both starting lb, cb1, DT, and DE1 is in recovery mode we are the defense with the most cap dollars out, and that’s with von playing right? would also be nice to play with a lead occasionally
  24. I agree. though I think when hopkins turned them down they went to Floyd as best available FA at an impact position they could afford
  25. know what kept many of those units together in the bad years? Rings. to make it through our first peak, often the highest peak, without even an appearance and only the one big loss in the AFCCG as the high water mark would be a tremendous let down. It would warrant serious discussion about coaching jobs.
