  1. I'm still wrapping my head around us being "at least" above average as a unit now. I'm curious where he actually ranks us.
  2. We've seen that a bunch but how many games did we puta heavy focus on Sammy and suffer? It's got to be an incredibly limited number of games he got the targets a #1 should and many of those were good days for the offense
  3. It's growing so much faster than most can keep up with. It went from 40 to 80 in 8 years and 80 to 167 in like 12(?) You have to look at percentage of cap as an anchor but no sports news sources have dealt in this for benchmarking as outrageous sounding numbers get more clicks.
  4. Signing galette and Graham and nearly immediately having to move them created monstrous dead money. If we signed Sammy and cut or traded him within a year (and did the same with someone like Gilmore) it'd be much more akin to the Saints troubles.
  5. Come on - there's a reason we got the day two draft picks- we lost the better players. Wentz would've been far less heartbroken if he got Sammy
  6. Let woods and Sammy walk and then spend $10m per on Matthews wouldn't be my favorite
  7. One takeaway on this is I think a lot of fans are sorely mistaken on the type of player boldin actually is at this point in his career. lumping him with taylor and kw as a win now... he's much more Tolbert than Kyle or Tyrod as far as impact.
  8. The only thing missing is where the cash went. Great player getting paid (or about to be) for a pick/throw in player, the great player will obviously be the winner, but if you count the cash saved maybe being spent elsewhere it's a hidden value in the trade. I still agree though.
  9. I'd say I get it if only he was actually getting forced looks. In the context of what we have seen -- it doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
  10. It could be in part that Brandon Tate is likely going to be the longest tenured WR on the roster and Tyrod is the only qb left. That he's going to a team that has our #2 WR is likely some sort of implicit endorsement from the guy he probably spent most time with in woods
  11. Schwartz used his MLB like a DT. Let the big guys get up field and the MLB purely stuffs the run. Not so much McD.
  12. This offseason alone we had Sammy, EJ, Gilmore, Kujo, Darby and woods. That's 4 firsts (Sammy x2) and 3 seconds out the door without a second contract this offseason alone.
  13. Oh, well, if beane said it clearly it's irrefutable fact. Only problem is it's not factual. They may have decided they didn't WANT to, but they could.
  14. Yup. I think in the discussion of Sammy we neglect what an impact not just qb play had but coaching. Also, someone mentioned the example of what if the trade went the other way and we sent something like NRC (instead of cutting him) and a 2 for amari cooper. It'd be keys to the city.
  15. There's still some perception that we are in cap hell, even though we never were
  16. Yup -- a quality but limited late rounder like our former cb NRC and a second next year would be a huge celebration for netting any of the young impact WRs.
  17. Objectively it's a huge hole of cheap talent -- they really need a near perfect hit rate on both impact players at the top and immediate solid contributors through the mid-late rounds this year and next
  18. It's the same guy you earlier had to argue with that you can pay star players. Dude emotionally hates Sammy on the bills and has the heels dug in. Some of his arguments fair, some completely outlandish though and because of his emotional stance he doesn't much care about the difference
  19. Right- short of catching the DB tying his shoes at the line instead of covering WR2, if Sammy is single Sammy should be first read and a hard read to pass up for most offenses. I'd love to see Thomas step up- but if simply penciling in what you can count on, we have to be ranked pretty low at this point. A few wild cards in there though that could hopefully make me look silly later.
  20. Dude has been erratic the whole way through, there's a reason I ducked out from the debate with him and focused on others
  21. Just a few quirks to this offseasons total refresh---which suddenly seems to have been much more aggressive than it originally felt like it would be: Our top 4 WRs, top 3 cbs and top 3 safeties from 2016 are all gone. In a passing league that's massive turnover. We could go Dime or 4 wide and Seymour is the only survivor likely to see the field. With Gilmore, EJ, Sammy, kujo, woods, Darby all gone we saw 4 first round picks (Sammy x2), and 3 seconds essentially all depart this offseason without a second contract. That leaves Eric wood, dareus, Glenn, Shaq and Ragland as the only picks on the roster from rounds 1 or 2 pre-McD. I would not be shocked to see 1 more gone this offseason. If Ragland goes, Shaq would be the only 1-2 from the Whaley era on the roster already(if you don't credit nix or McD picks to him) The turnover on the perimiter of both sides, and the huge volume of YOUNG high picks out the door really struck me as substantial even in today's NFL. Both occurrences have to be pretty rare.
  22. Yup, maybe that day 2 pick plus whoever gets the cash is better than Sammy but it's far from given. It's a loss for us short term and a question mark at best long term
  23. It seems clear they are dumping current and future cap hits while adding guys that will bring discipline and motivation Basically re-signing no one plus these trades, and adding Tolbert/boldin (talking kw into staying) and guys that'll help you get by for now The big hits would be clay (stuck with him otherwise I'd say likely move), dareus (100% stuck with this dude), cordy (likewise to much dead money), Hughes (maybe a candidate as a guy that's not super disciplined and has bumped heads with coaches), Eric wood (restructure last year probably unintentionally saves him).... and I think with the departure of Gilmore, Darby, wood, Sammy, mg we are pretty well out of young guys that would possibly have trade value that are anywhere near being paid Ragland will just be treated as open competition, win or lose, make the corresponding roster move We pretty much have, minus guys that have bigger hits to move them than to just let them stay
