  1. Ok.........but did any of those teams have a lead RB they had spent a first round pick on or had paid a lot for in UFA? They didn't and the Bills can fix their running game without doing that as well. I think my first step in improving the running game is replacing Mitch Morse with Jon Feliciano at center. Morse was done a disservice being moved to center by KC. He got the one excellent contract but that's a guy who probably could have had a much longer career as a very athletic right tackle.
  2. The Bills finished second in the NFL in scoring. RB is not a position I would put much into...........they've expended two picks in round 3 on RB's which was two too many for anything short of a game changer.........now it's incumbent on the Bills All-world personnel department to find that big play guy late in the draft and UDFA. I like the suggestion of some that McKenzie be used more out of the backfield. Drake is an enigma.........I expect Moss will be a better player next year than Drake..........I know that's not the type of player you are looking for but just that I think Drake will be a bust wherever he goes.
  3. His mistakes were made as they often are.........in drafting for need. Cases in point.......guys like Cody Ford and Devin Singletary...........on paper they are hits with a future with the team............in reality they are low ceiling starters that were sought out to patch holes in areas of need. Especially when you are building from where they were in 2018 you REALLY gotta' target difference makers at key positions with early picks...........and find the guard with right tackle flexibility and average RB's with much redder chips or in UDFA or street free agency etc.. We have heard things said about this personnel department........like it's nearly unprecedented to have so much talent under one roof..........well they are all under one roof again cuz it seems nobody was too great to be kept down...........so I am also very intrigued to see what they do. They need to do what the Chiefs did after the 2018 AFC Championship game loss when they had the worst defense in football. Hit HR's and fix the things necessary to beat the Chiefs.
  4. Belichick is the greatest game-planning coach and game-day coach in NFL history. Yeah he had Brady but I don't know if he ever had any team with as much individual talent as the Bucs team Brady is on.
  5. Said it here in recent weeks but the treatment Chiefs fans got at the AFC Championship game in January 1994 in Buffalo was pretty rough.
  6. Mahomes is the most talented QB the NFL has ever seen. Everything just comes that much easier for him. He doesn't have to labor for results. Allen is great......in the absence of Mahomes he would probably be raising the Lombardi this year, IMO.
  7. Definitely keep Knox......he's cheap and under contract....... but if they can get a veteran upgrade that would be great. KC basically gave Allen the TE all game because they know that if the Bills throw to Knox a often.......things eventually go haywire. He is fast and powerful but he's awkward changing direction and, of course, with his hands. Perhaps he can smooth out those aspects of his game with a good offseason of work. Hopefully a significant portion of that time with Allen in CA.
  8. I think giving him 10 years was a fair enough amount of time for him to show how bad he wants it. If you think all QB's are wired to compete and always be getting better like Josh Allen or Tom Brady etc.. I think you are wrong. I know you are wrong really. There is a lot more that goes into it than just a solid days work and a commitment to finish your 60 minutes of game per week. His attention to detail wrt interior decorating......not up for debate though........detail oriented.
  9. Worst call of the century was MCM. It was in 2000. No team should never.......ever.......have to defend a forward pass on a kickoff and if a team tries to win a game on the last play of the game with some bullsh*t like that they shouldn't be given ANY benefit of the doubt whatsoever. That said.........stay in your lane Daryl Porter..........and who knows what happens from there. The Bills were a fair amount better than TN and that SB was very competitive. The Lions weren't winning any SB that year.
  10. When people describe competitors they talk about people who are always like that.......all game and every game.................not just when certain decisive circumstances ignite it. When provoked Rob Johnson was a beast...........he simply couldn't bring it game in and game out.......though he often would heat up in the clutch late in games. But Johnson really hated Flutie. That Johnson versus Flutie game in San Diego was fantastic. Johnson was possessed..........and he had Flutie beat.........but for........terrible kick coverage at the end! Again. After Jon Gruden saw that game he said he had to have Rob Johnson on his team..........and that's how Rojo got his SB ring.
  11. I tend to see him as part of the problem. I remember in his second season reading a story where he was talking about all the marble he had imported for his house and all this other material stuff.............and I thought that was a bit of putting the cart before the horse for like a 21 year old dude.........and back then when you went #1 overall you got paid HUGE. As a friend of mine says...........it's pre-paying the ransom. Sometimes money like that can remove the focus and I never found him to be a great competitor.
  12. My life-long friend and co-season ticket holder was in the middle of his 10 year binge drinking period before going on the wagon and during the first half he was trying to bum a cigarette from the guy in front of him. Dude wasn't having any of it. When Montana throws the interception in the end zone and the whole crowd was on it's feet my girlfriend tapped me on the arm and pointed out that my buddy was pissing on the guys seat. The guys in front of us were in snow suits so I was hoping he'd finish before anyone sat down and nobody would notice but the guy next to the seat saw the stream and pointed it out. They were temporarily stunned by the moment and my friend casually proceeded out to the aisle and down and came up moments later with 2 more beers and the guys attacked him and it was a pile before security arrived. Security escorted him out. He went on an adventure with parking lot stoners from there and we found him a couple hours after the game stumbling around the stadium soaked in just his sweatshirt and jeans. Worst part might have been listening to him repeat the same stories all the way home. Drunks.......
  13. We're going to watch UFC tonight to pre-game a bit. And big food day tomorrow starting at noon too and some of that stuff has to be prepped today. It'll go fast.
  14. He isn't an unrestricted free agent........it will be interesting to see if he can build on this year though.....the production-per-play stats are impressive but still very limited snaps....and he's not young he will be 29 next season.........but he is low mileage.
  15. Covid or not.......pneumonia is just a very self-employed outdoors worker thing to get.......they don't miss a day of work for 40 years so when they get a respiratory issue they are used to just working thru it. In many businesses they won't let you work if you are hacking up phlegm and spreading germs in the workplace.........but farmers are outdoors or alone in the pickup much of the day and it's easy to rationalize that you are just going out to the field for a bit and the next thing you know you are exerting yourself changing a tractor tire or getting soaked fixing the irrigation pivots or something. Then you get home and start hacking like a SOB. When I heard that Josh was wanting to plant pistachios my VERY FIRST thought was that they wanted Dad to start taking it easy. Row crops are everyday work and stress. Tobacco is at the extreme end of that spectrum. Tree nuts? .......the co-op basically manages for you.......you could probably die and they wouldn't notice for a few years when they audited and found you hadn't cashed your checks. That's gentleman farmin' and for a high risk farmer like Josh's dad that's like asking Dad to quit coaching football. They might have to move him to Vegas to retire him.
  16. If the Bills offense plays well it won't be a running game. Last 6 weeks the Bills have faced five top 10 defenses........they should be primed to put some numbers on KC.
  17. Well I guess he was drunk too. But I generally find my first viewing of a game is very much incomplete whether I've been drinking or not. I was more encouraged by Phillips though.........as others have said that was the best he's looked all season and if healthy HE is the type of 1T this defense needs.....ACTIVE......not the worthless traffic cone type that they invested the $50M in.
  18. Now you're just making stuff up from imagined memory. He didn't play that many snaps and didn't get spun once in the game. On the series where Klein went offside on 4th down early in the game.......they ran right at Zimmer and he stood up the runner short for no gain on 3rd down and then teamed to stuff Lamar on the ill-fated 4th down. The Ravens had some nice runs but that was mostly with Butler in the lineup. I was surprised myself at his near perfect game...........but I wasn't surprised when he got a hand on the football.......he has a knack for getting to it.
  19. As I illustrated earlier.........he makes plays at a surprisingly high rate........not "once a month". In the Ravens game he didn't lose a single snap.........they surprisingly ran for basically nothing when Zimmer was on the field. And he made his play with 7 minutes left when he bull rushed his man into Huntley and deflected the pass which I thought was going to result in Taron Johnson's second pick six of the game.........but Snead managed to lunge and catch the end over end pass. Zimmer isn't a world beater but he makes plays. When you do that you create opportunities for changes of possession. That's modern defense. I know it's infuriating watching teams run the ball.............I went thru it 10 years ago when I wanted to snipe Kyle Williams from my seat as he basically allowed 200 yards rushing all by himself in the famous "how you do me like that God" game that birthed the term Bills mafia...........but as I've said, the game has changed.
  20. Golden Corral getting two extra comp picks.
  21. In the SB years Kirby Jackson would have been an unsung hero candidate. Patrick Mahomes would throw TD's all game against a complete stiff like that now. The game changes........but guys who make the plays that matter most within their game's framework are important.
  22. Play action works even when you don't run the ball well.........and you can also throw to RB's. Going 5 wide is the formula for needing to throw the ball 15 times on a drive to score a TD..........which is what turnover-centric defenses WANT you to do.
  23. Just pointing out that nothing he has done this year in his limited sample size has been "meh". You are a ball watcher........plays happen away from the ball too..........but even if some of that effort goes unnoticed.........how do you miss the guy saving the first Patriots game with a strip fumble of Cam and stripping CEH of the ball at the end of the Chiefs game that nearly allowed the Bills to sneak out of that with a win? He has made enough plays that it should be evident that he's been very productive.
  24. I will be a bit surprised if they can win Sunday by playing not to lose like they did the first time. I'd certainly hate to lose that way though. This Bills team finished second in scoring in the NFL.....the Chiefs finished 6th........playing scared and getting beat would be regrettable, IMO. The Chiefs defense will be in a real bind if Breeland and Gay are both out or even limited........their defense could be very vulnerable and the Bills are over-due for a big offensive performance.
