New York Yankees 2022....Aaron Judge sets AL record with HR #62
BADOLBILZ replied to BADOLBILZ's topic in Off the Wall
Cole needs to learn that he can't just groove one anymore just because he throws 99. Batters are used to seeing that......he needs to be a better pitcher......he was lucky to get away with just 3 runs they hit him very hard for the first 2+ innings. The Gleyber Tortoise bobble/fail on the routine DP changed the tenor of the game. He's Gary Sanchez at 2nd base........a gifted batter but too dumb to correct the problems that make him just a league average hitter, a lousy fielder and a liability on the bases. They have chosen to become a pitching and defense team.......and yet the failure to handle routine plays has cost them repeatedly already. Cashman clings to players with losing qualities for too long. Good middle infielders aren't that hard to find that they should be running out IGB(infield ground ball) and Tortoise. They don't hit enough or run well enough to be worth the 19 errors they each committed last year. -
As teams are now increasingly practicing my long prescribed model of only drafting "premium positions" in round 1.......I can't remember the term "premium positions" even in use 15+ years ago.......it wouldn't surprise me entirely if they picked Willis if he were somehow available at 25. My other long held belief is that you can pick the best QB on your board in round 1 every year and the math will ultimately come out in your favor. That one is much less likely to catch on because so many coaches and GM's in the top half of round 1, where the best QB's typically go, are on a short leash and not yet in lock step with ownership. Has to be a process from ownership on down. It's never been more evident that if you don't have a franchise QB your situation is borderline hopeless. Obviously a dynamic reserve QB could prove invaluable if forced into action and Allen plays a very violent brand of QB. And if they trust Willis will turn into a franchise type after 4 years.......then you only need to look at the trade returns from Carson Wentz to know that even a QB who has flashed some ability is worth what a first team All Pro is in trade at just about any other position.

Sometimes 5 star mega recruits like Andrew Booth who every scout has been penciling in as 1st rounders for 3-4 years can suffer from "prospect fatigue" and lose some luster compared to late bloomers but unless the medicals are considerably more concerning than that it's hard to see him falling into round 2. Clemson took a step back as a program this past season but I thought Booth kept getting better and the stats seem to support that. He doesn't have any real negatives on his resume other than a punch he threw in a game vs Louisville as a freshman and my understanding that was it. Seems like a safe pick. I will say that I believe that the CB position took a reputation hit in the playoffs..........Jalen Ramsey getting scorched for numerous big plays may have caused something of a "if he can't be shut down then maybe nobody can" mentality that fed this WR market frenzy. The UFA CB market has been noticeably cold and the salaries have stagnated so it stands to reason that feeling could spill over to the draft...........but McDuffie/Elam/Gordon before Booth wouldn't be right, IMO.

Mel Kiper mock- Michigan DB Daxton Hill
BADOLBILZ replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
Hill would definitely be one of those "we just can't help ourselves, we are a defense-first team" kinda' selections. -
I still disagree...........the concept is that the early picks should be players with the potential to be organizational difference makers..........RB's don't really apply if only because math says handing the ball off is intentionally limiting your offense. Even best per-play production of the best RB is still much less than the average per play production of a pass thrown by an average QB. I know people want the best players everywhere but taking the ball out of Josh Allen's hands and giving extra touches even to the best back is bad math...........even in a career season like Taylor had last year. Add in the fact that you can always find RB's on day 3 or in free agency and even off the street in mid-season that are capable of stepping right in and playing well behind a solid OL with a franchise QB. It's a careless use of a valuable commodity.

They didn't cut him out of training camp they cut him after the preseason..........where he played so badly that he made a significant impression on the Bills fan base. If anyone is protesting too much it is you by asserting that he is "literally a camp body".........we surely hope a scenario doesn't unfold where he makes the team........but he is just 28 years old and has 67 career starts in the NFL.........a camp body is a guy who has no chance at all of making an NFL roster.
-
I really like Parham. Shorter so he gets good leverage inside but also has excellent arm length for an interior OL to help in pass pro...........has a lot of starts under his belt in college and is a good athlete so he should have the quick feet to excel if they decide they must run a lot of outside zone.
-
Yeah I actually watched every snap he played last year. He's brutally bad. My point about his PFF grade stands..........his 33.7 season score was worse than the lowest score at most positions(which are usually low 40's into the 30's) each week. I think we all ASSUME he can't possibly make the team but now that you mention it........I guess there is a chance. Thanks for that thought.

Best Bill ever. My favorite Bill ever. One thing that gets glossed over though was Bruce complaining to the national media during SB XXVI week in Minneapolis about hate mail he had received that season. He basically painted the entire Bills fanbase as racist. Probably the worst shade ever thrown on the Bills fanbase.........and in such a big moment...........it was extremely divisive and controversial and cast a pall over most of the week. By the time the game arrived there was a ton of negative energy around that team and I blame Bruce for a good part of that...........it was the low moment of his career in Buffalo, IMO and it's been intentionally dodged in retrospectives. The Chuck Dickerson comments about the Hogs thing wasn't nearly as controversial in the moment but it has served as a convenient excuse and a cover for the bigger story at the time.

It is perplexing how he gets work but it's been something of a foregone conclusion that the Bills were re-signing him........Capaccio has been saying it all winter. There is a good deal of subjectivity in PFF grades but generally speaking an OL with a score in the 50's is usually unplayable to the eye test. Bobby Hart had a 33.7 last year. That's like the having the worst score of any player in the entire league every week for a full season. He's arguably been the worst regularly employed player in the NFL in recent years. I guess they are hoping that he will evolve into Vlad Ducasse 2.0 and have a couple serviceable seasons in his 30's.

New York Yankees 2022....Aaron Judge sets AL record with HR #62

As long as you aren't a fan of a Boston pro sports team you are entitled to your opinion. The Buffalo/Boston pro sports rivalry is too geographically personal for it to be acceptable to cross over. -
If LB Devin Lloyd is available at Pick 25......
BADOLBILZ replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall
To me........someone trading a second round pick for Edmunds seems absurd. But Cleveland traded a top of 3rd round pick to Buffalo for Tyrod Taylor.........so I suppose it's unfair to dismiss it out of hand. Just seems highly unlikely. Edmunds with that big, fully guaranteed cap hit and no team control left seems not-too-valuable, IMO..........some teams might consider it doing the Bills a favor taking that hit off the Bills hands. Especially in a draft deep in off-ball LB's. I would hate for the Bills to draft another off-ball LB in round 1............expending a 1st and a 2nd on Edmunds hasn't yielded the desired result........so not sure why they would feel compelled to do it again. -
Pounding the table for Christian Watson at 25
BADOLBILZ replied to Vickveto's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think he will be there at 25. It only takes one team but I think fans get new player mania in the months leading up to the draft........while teams in many cases have had set opinions about certain players for years. Scouts don't start learning about these players the season before they are drafted.............they are aware of many of them when they are still in HS in many cases. Doug Whaley drafted Cyrus Kouandjio because he was enthralled with CK having been the top OL in his HS class.........scouts start accumulating favorites way before the last legs of the draft process. For a lot of scouts Watson will be seen as a raw, untested and slightly over-aged player............so I don't see him jumping many of the other more established WR prospects and going top 25. I think we saw that with Spencer Brown last year..........some people were mocking him as high as round 1..........he cruised until end of round 3. I don't think Watson will fall out of round 2 because of the WR frenzy we have seen this offseason but he is probably no more than a fringe late first in the scouting community, IMO. -

2-1 Cold night with the ball not carrying well = no HR's = no win The recent iterations of Yankee teams are not built to win by putting runners on base..........they do not make enough contact, hit for enough average and most importantly they simply can't RUN THE BASES well enough to scratch out runs. The organization is addressing that though...........follow the link to the nightly stats in the OP and keep an eye on the stolen base totals daily. They are greatly emphasizing base running and being extremely aggressive on the paths in the minors. Very common to see players with multiple steals in games........something that is RARE in the majors. And they are taking guys who rarely stole as amateurs and putting up big stolen base numbers. -
If you use a second round pick on a player I think it should be a GIVEN that you will want to re-sign the guy if he plays well. I wonder what % of people that want to draft a RB are thinking that player will be worthy of a big second contract? I suspect it's low.......nobody wants to pay RB's anymore. A second round pick is still one of your best shots to find an organizational difference maker.........the vast majority of pro bowlers come from rounds 1 and 2. So a second rounder shouldn't be used on players that you plan from the get-go to use up and throw away........which basically describes all but the most unique RB's.

McShay definitely seems like the angriest of all media draftniks.........like the only angry one really........he's always seemed pissed or put out about something when I've seen him on TV. I remember one year he mocked a QB from Kentucky in the top 10 late in the process and the guy went undrafted or something really bizarre like that and I've never really put any stock into his takes since. Edit...... Tried to look it up but I can't remember the QB's name and all the negative search words for McShay always yield stuff that was posted yesterday so wasn't an easy find. Edit......QB's name was Andre Woodson.......he talked him up as a potential #1 overall pick all during the 2007 season and he ended up going in the 6th round and was quickly out of the league. He has no league connections so he is really flying blind with his evaluations wrt where players will be selected.

Yes this is true........we actually HAD to do that for the playoff games in 2020 as I recall......there was no other choice. Wallet app works fine I just used it for a last minute decision to attend an MLB game as they didn't even have a physical ticket office at that stadium........this is the way it's going. But I much prefer the card. Let's say you accidentally had your flashlight on all day or super cold weather drained your battery and you walked up to the gate with a dead phone? I put my card in my wallet and it never leaves all season.

Josh Allen Rookie card sold for $264, 000, value is now at $312,000
BADOLBILZ replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Yankees have a minor leaguer whose card sold for almost $500K recently. Josh Allen is one of the greatest players in the more popular sport and his card only sold for only $300K? Meh. Card market is totally illogical. -

BADOLBILZ replied to Vickveto's topic in The Stadium Wall
Part of the process of a good drafting team should be knowing that their 1st round pick is one of the few chances they are going to get to find game breakers and foundational pieces. A high ceiling should be a MUST. You have to look at it like it's a $20M+ aav type investment. It would be easy to get caught up in the moment.......ponder the uncertainty with the highest ceiling prospects........and just pick the low hanging fruit........like a CB with a seemingly high floor who could possibly step right in and play some CB2. But then 4 years down the line if that player plays well will you feel very compelled to pay the man top dollar to play in your zone defense? If not.......it's the wrong pick. -
Am I the only one who hasn't completely given up on Zack Moss?
BADOLBILZ replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
Josh Allen + good OL + healthy receiving/TE corps + Singletary/Moss/Johnson = highest scoring Bills offense ever It's not the ordinary RB corps that is the weak link in that equation............it's the quality and depth of the OL and the need for more depth/speed in the WR corps. Every offseason the same % of TSW characters spend the offseason pounding the keyboard for a first round RB until their fingers bleed. But it's not a plan that really makes any sense whatsoever based on DECADES of data. In fairness though.........there are still usually a handful of GM's like Dave Gettlenutz that also still think they are playing 20th century football so it's hard to totally blame fans for being thickheaded about it. Moss is a fine RB2/RB3........not as reliably productive of a runner as Singletary......but is a very good pass protector and sneaky effective as a receiver. -
Yeah but what about Leodis McKelvin and Nate Clements and Antoine Winfield and Jeff Burris and Thomas Smith and JD Williams and Derrick Burroughs...........McDermott is SO "draft a CB in round 1".
-
At the combine........the on-field drills Williams vs. Woolens was no contest. Williams had natural CB movement.........Woolen did not. That's not to say that good coaching couldn't significantly change that but after he blazed that 40.........Woolens looked very unnatural.
