Bills line up meeting with C.J. Spiller
Wizard replied to bobcat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills trade #9 to 49er's to grab Spiller. Bills receive #17 and second round pick. Let's do it. If Gailey and Nix are as good as their past records indicate, maybe we can grab three reliable starters with the extra pick. -
This isn't even a debate. Bulaga is overall the better prospect.
-
No. Thanks. Don't we have a guy named Ellis on our team. All I remember is that when he was drafted he had an "explosive" first step. He's so explosive I don't even know if this 3rd round pick has even taken a snap in his two seasons. There is no way we can have two guys with the last name Ellis on our team.

Hypothetical: Let's say you had the first 27 picks in the draft and can rebuild this team. Keep only 26 current players from last year's team. No trades because there isn't a real veteran that would love to come to the Bills. Rookies aren't interested either, but they don't have much of a choice. Bolded are my 27 draft picks. Some of these players aren't considered first rounders, but the majority of them are. If the Bills had a team like this (or very similiar), how long before the Bills could be competing for a spot in th AFC Championship? Thoughts? QB's Bradford Clausen Brohm (cut Edwards, Fitzpatrick) RB's Spiller Jackson Gerhart (Cut Lynch) OL LT Okung LG Iupati C Wood RG Levitre RT Bulaga Depth: Campbell (OT), Veldheer (OT), Hangartner (G/C), Asamoah (G) (Cut all of the worthless people, including Bell) WR's Evans Bryant Tate Benn Johnson Hardy TE's Gresham Pitta Nelson Special Teams K Lindell P Moorman LS (from offensive line) DL 4-3 DE Morgan DT Suh DT McCoy DE Pierre-Paul 3-4 NT Cody DE Morgan DE Pierre-Paul DE Paul Bench: Schobel, Maybin, Williams, Stroud Linebackers: OLB: Kindle ILB: McClain ILB: Spikes OLB: Weatherspoon Bench: Poz, Mitchell CB's Haden Mcgee Bench: McKelvin, Florence, Lankster, Robinson Safeties Byrd Berry Bench: Scott, Wilson, Mays Total Players: 53 Rookies: 27 Veterans: 26 Veterans who are worth keeping around

Yeah, a 34 year old journeyman tackle that played most of his career with the Raiders. Sounds like a lot of promise....

Per PFT, 'Skins going after Peppers and Sproles

Now Dan Snyder and Jerry Jones are going to model their franchises around the Yankees and Red Sox, and lots and lots of teams (the Bills included) will be left in the dust. The Bills would be left in the dust regardless of payroll rules. Good teams get good players at competitive but reasonable rates. Crappy teams overpay for less quality free agents (Lee Evans $9 million per year, Dockery $7 million per year). Crappy teams who don't mind or can afford overspending for players make hardly a difference (Albert Haynesworth monster contract). The truth is...the Yankees and Red Sox have a lot of money, but they also are great places to play. The fan base is strong. The media base is strong. There is rich history. The club invests in scouting and player development. These clubs are smart and do what it takes to win. The Yankees and Red Sox will always be "winners" and leave other teams in the dust if this remains their modes of operation. Don't hate the Colts, Steelers, and Patriots for being smarter than the competition. Regardless of the what the salary cap rules may be this year or next year, these teams will continue to be successful because of their organization's foundations. In all honesty, the Bills could double their payroll right now and it wouldn't make a huge difference (maybe 2 games). The only way Buffalo will compete if it has a winning philosophy and mentality. This hasn't been with this club since the early 1990's. Yes, the fans are passionate, but the owners, leaders, coaches, and players, and scouting hasn't been. Until a championship caliber team is built to be a playoff contender year-in and year-out or until new ownership comes in, it doesn't matter what the Bills spend. Good teams remain good teams and crappy teams remain crappy teams. It's just the way it is.... -
Bills Show Interest In Whitehurst, Tomlinson?
Wizard replied to Ghost of Rob Johnson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Several problems.... Why would L.T. come to Buffalo? Yes, he still wants to play, but he wants to play for a contender. Don't get me wrong but there is a HUGE difference between being a San Diego Charger and a Buffalo Bill. The Chargers are a better team, nicer city, better weather and nightlife. I think L.T. would look past those things if this were the 1988-1993 Bills. Expect him to go to the usually talented teams or a place with great weather...i.e. Miami. -
Sure they do...Just ask Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds, Rafael Palmeiro, Sammy Sosa, etc.

No. I'm not comfortable with Evans/Johnson/Hardy/Parrish as wideouts, but I'm even less comfortable with our O-Line, D-Line, and Quarterback situation. Is Dez Bryant talented? Yes, but he isn't a fit into Buffalo. In many ways, he reminds me of Marshawn Lynch. He's extremely talented, but he hasn't shown a lot of maturity. We have had too many of those type of players. Now, if Buffalo is 12-4, has great solid veteran leadership, and Dez Bryant is available at #9, then you take him. He should be a great NFL player, but he would likely sour in Buffalo with its poor history the last 10 years, a lack of leadership from the team, and no quarterback or offensive line. O-Line, D-Line, or McClain is our best bet with a round #1 pick. Otherwise, the only other good option is to get McNabb or some veteran and take Bradford or Clausen, if available, to be the starter in 2 years.

As has been stated by other comments, #1 He is only concerned about himself #2. His contract will be way too much especially as he begins the downside of his career #3. We are the Buffalo Bills!
-
Yep. You take a talent like that in Round #2 if he's there, but no to pick #9.

Is WR also a need in the draft???

Gailey hires five for staff; retains two
Wizard replied to bills_red's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So, basically we hired guys that have moved around a lot, haven't held major coaching positions at top notch Division 1 schools, and most of them only have worked in the NFL for the Chiefs, a dominant NFL team last year. Sounds great! -
Would you trade/settle for Marc Bulger...
Wizard replied to Solomon Grundy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bulger is too old and injury prone. And, LeFevour didn't run a pro style offense. As sad as it is, if the Bills can't get McNabb or Carr as a rental for two years, or can't pick up Kolb, then Buffalo is going to go into the season with Fitzpatrick and Edwards. That's fine with me...let them get pummeled for another year or two while the Bills draft nothing but OL/DL with every pick the next two years. -
Let's narrow the Draft down for everyone :)

Both teams are top notch and very deserving. Both have explosive offenses and average to above average defenses. It is good to see the Saints make their first Super Bowl and the fans are deserving of such an opportunity. At the same time, the Colts are a less annoying and abrasive way (than the Patriots) of running a professional organization from top to bottom (Buffalo take copious notes). The way I look at it...if the Saints win, then Brees cements himself as a Hall of Famer. If the Colts win, then Peyton Manning is the greatest quarterback of all-time! Sure, Montana and Bradshaw have more rings, but Bradshaw wasn't even in the top 2 on his own offense during those Steeler championships. Montana may be the only one worthy to compare to Manning. Otherwise, Elway, Brady, and Favre slip a notch below Manning if the Colts win. With four (4) MVP's, a decade plus of ridiculous stats, great character, and a second Super Bowl ring, we could be viewing history worth passing on to the next generation of football fans. Hopefully it is a competitive game.

Steve Young also played in the USFL and got hammered with the Buccaneers for awhile. Buffalo can't wait with a top 10 pick to get a guy who is "going to ride the pine" for several years. If we are going to take Tebow at #9, then he should be producing right away. Hmmm...which one of these doesn't belong A) Rodgers as a backup learning from Favre B) Young as a backup learning from Montana C) Tebow as a backup learning from "Captain Checkdown" or "Fitz" And, last time I checked, Tebow has a lot of cold weather game experience as a now former Florida Gator. I see your point! Let's draft Tebow!!!

I love hearing everyone's free agent ideas (let's get Merriman, Kolb, Wilfork, Joe Montana, Barry Sanders ) However, let's be realistic with free agent thoughts and draft picks. No, we aren't getting Russell Okung or Suh in less we trade up. I'm generally opposed to trading down, but I think most of are in agreeance that the best DT's, OT, and QB will probably be off the board at #9. (Suh, Gerald McCoy, Okung, Clausen/Bradford). The only realistic pick worth the #9 slot is McClain. This is who we should take. However, here is a realistic scenario of the Bills getting some good value by trading down. 1. Trade pick #9 (Draft Value 1,350) to the 49er's for pick #17 (Draft Value 950). The 49er's send their second round pick #49 (Draft Value 410) in the exchange. Bills draft picks are valued now at 1,360 and 49er's at 1,350. 2. The Bills then have picks #17, #41, #48. Pick #17 Terrence Cody (DT) An ideal pick, great value, reasonable to assume he will be around at #17 and the perfect start to a 3-4 switch. Pick #41 Sergio Kindle (OLB 3-4) The Bills will need another linebacker with a switch to a 3-4. Mock Drafts rate Kindle between #'s 38-50. Pick #49 Selvish Capers (LT) The Bills get a solid LT in the mid second round without having to dish out millions of dollars to a top 10 pick on the disputed second best LT in the draft behind Okung. The Bills then can address a QB (LeFevour in round #3) and depth in rounds 4-7. 3. The 49er's with picks #9 and #13 can focus on their most pressing needs QB (Clausen?), OT (Baluga, Williams, or Campbell, or Davis), or they can go with a CB/S, another need. This is a realistic way of the Bills building through the draft based on biggest needs. And, it makes sense for both the Bills and the 49er's as a likely and reasonable trade partner.

I can see one potential trade down in this draft for us
Wizard replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lefevour is not worth a second round pick. I would only trade out of the #9 spot if the top OT (Okung) is gone, the top DT's (Suh and McCoy, McCoy won't be around for us at #9 or later), if LB McClain is gone, and if Jacksonville were to give us our 2nd round pick. NO QB's in the first two rounds, unless we get an additional 2nd round pick. The focus has to be on the OL/DL. -
Is Posluszny the Real Deal? What about the secondary?
Wizard replied to HumbleAndHungry's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Right on. No to LeFevour especially as a 2nd round pick. I'd take a flier in the 4th or 5th round. Bills Defense Should Be: CB: McGee CB: McKelvin FS: Byrd SS: Wilson LB: Poz LB: Mitchell LB: McClain (Draft, 1st round) DE: Schobel (one more year out of him) DT: Kyle Williams DT: (Top DT run stopper in free agency) DE: Draft, 3rd Round Let Go: Kelsay, Denney, Whitner, Johnson, and all the scrub players Keep as Backups: (These five guys) Bryan Scott (solid backup) and John Wendling (young backup and top ST's tackler), Marcus Stroud for rotational purposes, Drayton Florence (good corner/nickel back). And, no I don't like him, but keep Ellison because we have so little depth at linebacker. -
Knowing the Bills philosophy with Buddy Nix now at GM, the Bills obviously won't spend a lot of money or garner interest from the top free agents; however, there are some guys who are potential upgrades in our weakest spots...QB, OL, DL, TE, and LB. Which two free agents do you think would be the best fit for Buffalo or the most likely to join our team? QB Jason Campbell, Washington Redskins (28) New coach and GM. Campbell isn't the long-term solution in Washington, but he is probably a better overall QB talent than anyone currently at the position. QB Kyle Orton, Denver Broncos (27) He dinks and dunks...sounds familiar. And, the Broncos did collapse, but Orton has been a starter with a winning record for both the Bears and Broncos. WR Malcom Floyd, San Chargers (28) Started in the last six games for Chargers in regular season. He is 6'5. Unlike James Hardy, he has stats to show that he can be a #2 type receiver. WR Kevin Walter, Houston Texans (29) A frequently mentioned guy in past board discussions on free agents. He is coming off an injury. He has size and is a #2 or #3 type guy. TE Tony Scheffler, Denver Broncos (27) He is used primarily for blocking, but he has had some better numbers in the past. TE Bo Scaife, Tennessee Titans (29) He isn't flashy or overly athletic...typical Bills type player. But, he makes a lot of short catches and has led the Titans in the past in number of receptions. RT/OG Marcus McNeill, San Diego Chargers (26) Has had neck and back problems, but he is a starter for San Diego and often plays LT. He isn't as talented as Jason Peters, but he would come much cheaper He might be a solid RT option. OL Jahri Evans, New Orleans Saints (27) Good run-blocker. Buffalo needs to focus more on running the ball with Jackson and using Lynch despite being overrated. He's a natural guard. If we got him, I would put Eric Wood at starting center. DE Johnny Jolly, Green Bay Packers (27) His strength is stopping the run, but he isn't much of a pass rusher. He occasionally has lined up as a DT for the Packers. DE Ray Edwards, Minnesota Vikings (25) Obviously, when you have the Williams guys and Jared Allen, you will look good. But, Edwards had about 7 sacks this year. He's a good pass rusher and young. DT Tony Brown, Tennessee Titans (29) More of a pass rushing DT. He is known for being quick. LB Kirk Morrison, Oakland Raiders (28) Yes...he plays for the Raiders which means the LB's get all the tackles because the defensive line doesn't do much, but he plays inside linebacker and has 100+ tackles year in and year out. May be a good if we go 3-4. LB D’Qwell Jackson, Cleveland Browns (26) Inside linebacker that is young. He reminds me of a young London Fletcher. Nose on the ball kind of guy. None of these guys will overwhelm you, but in my opinion, any of these guys would be mid-priced free agents that have shown more production at positions that the Bills need. Fire away with thoughts.
