  1. Hey we passed up on Orakpo, the consensus #1 DE in the draft, to get Maybin. It's not like we haven't done something that stupid in the recent past.
  2. So your point is?
  3. People LOVE to throw out exceptions to the rule to validate their choice for our first round pick. QBs like Aaron Rodgers and Ben Roethlisberger are rare. Guys that can somehow be extremely productive while getting harassed big time. Tell me which QB in this draft is going to be able to get pummeled like Aaron Rogers and Big Ben and I'll say go ahead and draft him. Being one for applying the hypothetical to the real unfortunately I think we will have to draft Claussen. Not "unfortunate" because he is a bad prospect. I think he is actually better than Bradford and has a stronger arm for our Buffalo windy and snowy weather. "Unfortunate" because it is entirely probable that 4 LTs go before pick #9. Claussen is a better choice than the 5th best LT. If only 3 LTs go before our pick I would strongly consider a LT assuming the right one falls to us.
  4. The Checkdown problem with Trent is that that is his first and pretty much only choice. Everyone likes to point to the importance of the QB and the success of the team. The QBs that have success throw down field. They do so with arm strength, balls and more importantly completions. The same cannot be said of Trent.
  5. Thank you for looking it up. So, if Eric Wood doesn't become our starting center for the next 5 - 10 years we used a "late" first round pick on a guard. For a team with SO many needs that will have been a dumb reach pick. And for the record you ABSOLUTELY don't take certain positions in certain rounds. That is unless you advocate drafting kickers, punters and long snappers in the first round if they are really talented. That is just an extreme example that disproves your point. That being said unless I am mistaken Wood's performance ranked poorly for guards. Where do people get off saying the guy is a great pick, our best lineman, etc. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO PROOF TO CONFIRM OR DENY THIS!!!! "I double dog dare you" to provide credible information to the contrary? And NO, your personal opinion and "gut feeling" don't count as credible information. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess you hate Jason Peters. Could it be that your hate for Peters is blinding you to the reality that even though we used a pick on Wood that was obtained from the Peters trade that he really hasn't proven anything!!! Bill Parcells would have your ass for anointing this rookie our best lineman. What a joke.
  6. Thank GOD you are not our GM. I would hope that any GM would accept ANY talent on his team that is better than what he already has. And YES.....he is better than anything we have. If you don't believe me just take a look at the numbers under conditions that were equal to or WORSE than anyone we have had in the last few years.
  7. You get that impression because he was drafted with a pick acquired in the Peters trade. For many, even though there is no supporting evidence or proof, you must have unfounded, blind optimism for Wood's sure fire enshrinement in Canton. If not, how do they justify their belief that it was a good decision to get rid of a probowl LT just because he demanded to be paid like one?
  8. I hear that. I just can't get a guy like Nick Mangold out of my head. The guy was a mid first round pick center. He started at center his rookie year unless I am mistaken and has already made the probowl at least once. (For those of you who don't whine that the probowl is meaningless because a guy you hate makes it every year). That was by far a home run but it is more than a little disappointing that our first round center can't even start at his natural position and the Jets' guy started and was a probowler day 1 *sigh*
  9. How many games did Butler play? Tough to give up sacks when you are injured on the sideline.
  10. Where do I sign?!?!!??!?! In all seriousness. Would I be happy with that trade hell ya. Do I think we could do even better than just a straight up trade? Yes. We would be giving them something for nothing. They don't want or need Campbell. He means nothing to them. The only reasons they would keep him is to screw him over, losing a year on the bench and then they would STILL get nothing for him next year when he is a free agent I assume. If they had any class they would just release him and let the guy find a job before the draft. Another problem I see developing is if we get Campbell we eliminate one of our options in the draft which is taking Claussen if 4 OTs are drafted before us scenario.
  11. In context it makes more sense. I was just jabbing Darth Ice a little bit. I took his statement and basically switched the terms QB and LT. And agreed. That is a safe statement about any position. The longer you wait the lower your odds of success.
  12. LOL. Caffeine isn't the issue. Using a mid first round pick on a guard is if Wood never does take over the center position. As I mentioned I have hope for him. I expect him to take over at center. If he doesn't take over at center however then we made a "reach" pick. Journeyman guards are mid round to as high as second round picks NOT mid first rounders. As I said with Donte, Wood would be a reach if all he ends up being is a journeyman guard. Donte is a decent safety. 8th overall?....HELL NO! which is why he gets so much flack from some. It's not his fault we drafted the guy 16 spots or a whole round early. Here's to hoping Wood is indeed more than just that.
  13. I would love for us to draft Claussen. The problem is how do we keep him on his feet? If we hadn't been the typical penny pinching Bills and didn't get rid of our pro bowl LT we wouldn't have created a cascade effect of destruction on the OL. We would be in PRIME position to make Claussen the no brainer pick! Getting rid of Peters ultimately resulted in screwing up the LT, RT and RG positions. The right side of the line was above average if not great. We then robbed Peter in an attempt to pay Paul and took these guys out of positions they were competent at and set them up for failure. All 3 positions had guys who due to bad fit, injuries or retirement failed miserably. Of those positions the only one I have hope for is Eric Wood and that is if he can come back from injury. That being said I think it is a total waste that we drafted a CENTER in the mid first round and made him a guard!!! WHO USES A MID FIRST ROUND PICK ON A GUARD!?!?!? If Wood doesn't take over his natural spot of center this year or the next he was officially a "reach". Not Donte Whitner reach but a reach none the less. People are already calling him a great player and saying he will be awesome but there is nothing on the field to suggest his greatness OR potential failure. He didn't even finish the year. It is just WAY to early to tell yet people are singing his praises. Of course nobody will admit this because Wood was gotten with a pick that came from the Peters trade and is therefore made of teflon. DUMB!!!!
  14. Just because you put FACTS in caps doesn't mean you have any!!! In FACT I have disputed and refuted much of the information that you try to offer as FACTS.
  15. Same can be said for the QB position. There are several QBs that people aren't looking at that are going to be good. Again fans think you gotta have a fist round QB and that is bull ****. Did we really learn anything from that article? He pretty much just made the general and OBVIOUS statement that there will be good players at position 'X' that people aren't looking at that will end up being good. The problem, like any position, is the likelihood of finding that player in later rounds. That includes LT and QB. We argue about this but but we really agree about 90%. QB is incredibly important. What good is drafting a rookie QB at #9 WHO WILL PLAY HIS ROOKIE YEAR and putting him behind our terrible offensive line? YES, terrible, it is not average...it is not OK....it is terrible! We don't need to be the team known for "making" a promising rookie QB into the next David Carr !! If our line was even close to being average I would probably be leading the charge with you for a QB. Problem is we live in the real world. I am not going to go buy a Porsche if I don't have any insurance or a garage to put it in. You have to protect and take care of your prize possessions.
  16. LOL. Ya that's so easy.....late round fodder TEs that convert to pro bowl LT's are a dime a dozen. Anthony Munoz, Jason Peters and all of those other guys!!!!
  17. The reverse can ABSOLUTELY be said. We have seen good lines and ****ty QBs win championships. I don't think you can say the reverse of that. I have seen good QBs and above average lines win but not a below average line. People get so caught up in order of importance and forget that both need to be above average to go anywere. If you actually wan't to win games they both need to be great. If any team drafts a QB in the first ten picks in the draft, Claussen would be at #9, they will play their rookie year. There is only one exception that I am aware of in the last as many years as I can remember and that was Phillip Rivers who sat behind Drew Brees. Please don't give me the lets draft a QB at 9 and let him sit for a year or two while we try to build an OL. It doesn't happen in today's NFL. We don't want to "create" the next David Carr.
  18. I fought this battle already. QB is hugely important but without the line they will get killed. LT is the first and most obvious step towards developing a competent OL. Anyone who thinks that we currently have the answer for that position on our roster needs to put the crack pipe down. Hangartner was hyped by the front office when he got here. He's smart. A journey man. Blah blah blah. Long story short he has been a guy who has been in and out of peoples starting line up and is a stop gap measure. Woods BETTER develop into our starting center this year or next or he was a horrible pick. Who drafts a career center in the first round and makes him a guard? What a waste of a pick. If Wood does get moved to center we will need a right guard. Depending on how quickly Wood makes the transition back to his natural position we may need that guy this year or next.
  19. What I find really funny is that these April Fools think that anyone would believe for half a second that we traded away or signed a big name today. MORONS!!!! Don't bother wasting my time. I have vowed to not click on any topic that contains the words "trade" or "sign" or existing NFL player names that even have the remotest possibility of being traded. What lame excuses for humor. Lazy comedians.
  20. If 4 tackles go before us then what is wrong with picking Claussen? I'm not even 100% sold on Andre Davis. I have been incredibly vocal about our need to get a LT to help keep our next QB alive but if the cupboard is empty at LT Claussen makes by far the most sense.
  21. I hear this unfounded optimism all the time. The truth is we don't know what Wood will turn out to be. I think at the very least he will be a starting caliber guard. Making pro bowls at his position though I have no substantive evidence that would support that. I like the kid and wish him well for his and our team's sake but I haven't seen a thing yet to make me believe he will be better than Peters was at LT not that the guard and LT are even at the same level of importance to a team. I also hope that he takes over his natural spot at center too. Drafting a center in the first round and then making him a guard was kind of silly if he doesn't eventually become our center for the next 5+ years. I liked the Nelson pick perhaps even better than the Wood pick. That being said I do still criticize the fact that with our crappy TE's and the injuries they suffered he couldn't crack the starting lineup. A 6'6" TE with 4.5 speed and athleticism? How could he not start over the other crap we have?
  22. He did despite coming back from groin surgery and dealing with injuries all year. But hey let's hold that against him. I hope you are as harsh when Eric Wood comes back from injury Hrm...interesting though how these rankings of Jason Peters don't include run blocking which is perhaps his specialty
  23. I think that everything in football is dependent upon something else. I don't know that there is a single stat that I could point to that isn't at least partially dependent upon some else's production. It is perhaps the ultimate team sport. My eye ball test is that Jackson has better ypc and possibly was the better choice "this year" because he works better with our crappy line. Behind an average to good line it's Lynch all the way for me. In the pro bowl a year ago Lynch had the best YPC of all the RB's. Of all the RBs he was also the guy called in on a critical 4th down conversion run. Even though it was a pro bowl OL he was running behind it was a pro bowl DL he was going up against. We got a glimpse of what Lynch could be if we put a line in front of him.
