  1. Until we get a line that open up holes like the rest of the NFL Jackson is probably the better option. Once we get a competent line Lynch is the guy. We also have to remember that Jackson probably has about 6 or 7 years or experience and maturity on Lynch. You don't see Lynch tippie toeing when there is actually a hole to run through. I would hope by the time Lynch turns 31 he can make cut back runs as well as Jackson.
  2. Unfortunately I am on the older side as well. I watched football back then. The only thing that has changed in my opinion is that football has become like baseball due to fantasy football and the internet. Baseball was always stat driven. Knowing a pitchers era, a guys batting average, how many runs and home runs a hitter had etc. Football just caught up from that perspective. TDs are pretty much the whole point of the game. If you aren't scoring them generally you aren't winning. Maybe you want a team that can march up and down the field and punt or kick field goals. ME? I want a team that scores 6 pts. Lynch does that twice as often as Freddy. TDs for RBs have always mattered. It is as I have stated a team effort and a team game. I don't think that our team, talent or scheme is very different at all the last 3 years. The line still sucks, the QB still sucks, the offensive scheme still sucks. In spite of all this when Marshawn is the starter he doubles the scoring production of Jackson when he is the starter. That can't be ignored or easily have excuses made for that undeniable fact. As mentioned before. Please don't extrapolate this line of reasoning to make comparisons to other teams or other RBs. I am talking about the Bills where for the last 3 years we haven't been too much different. SO it is possible to make comparisons of talent at one position with more relevance than other situations. We are talking about starting RBs here. Others have tried to throw out comparisons and examples on other teams using goal line and special purpose backs but it's like comparing apples and oranges. Both fruit but not the same.
  3. True points! Many factors are involved and even comparing the 2007/2008 supporting casts to the 2009 supporting cast is difficult. Some people think we had better players. Some think we had worse. This is a very simplistic way to put it but I like Jackson when there is no hole to run through as he is a better cut back runner imo. Lynch seems to head for where the hole is supposed to be whether it is there or not. When the hole is there to run through, I like Lynch. If our line can get him past the line of scrimmage he is going to truck dudes. Jackson would be the hardest runner on several teams but Lynch runs noticeably harder than Jackson. Last year was admittedly a slow and down year for Lynch for the reasons mentioned previously. Jackson earned himself more carries no doubt but in my opinion Lynch needs to be option 1A with Jackson 1B. He should certainly get a larger share of carries in the red zone as he proves he out scores Jackson 2 to 1 in the TD department.
  4. ROFLOL!!!! I don't think I haven't heard anything that funny and ridiculous in a long time. STOP SWINGING FROM JACKSON NUTZ AND HATING ON LYNCH!!!! "Rushing TDs are irrelevant"? ...STOP!...you're killing me! You're not really that clueless are you? So basically your defense of Jackson as a #1 RB is, rushing TDs don't matter and he got a lot of yards in the return game? Sounds like an ace special teamer to me but not a starting RB. NOTE** Please reference my comments about comparing stats for RBs on different teams, different eras, different opponents etc not being valid.
  5. I know Jackson threw a TD. I saw the same play from Lynch in 2008. Always nice to get one that way. Jackson also had 2 receiving TDs this year. None last year by the way. I have no luck getting direct responses to questions but do you think that 2 rushing TDs is acceptable for any teams starting RB? I like Freddie but that is just not good enough. It's not all his fault teams play the game not individual players. I agree for the most part that our running game and specifically Jackson was all we had this year. Jackson could have been the better back in 2009 but so could Lynch. That is a tough thing to try to gauge. We'll never know because only one guy can be the starter. What I do know is that when Lynch was the starter in 2007 and 2008 he performed better than Jackson did in 2009. Lynch in my opinion was screwed up by his suspension, missing time with the team, missing the work with yet another offensive coordinator and variation on the scheme. He's doesn't impress me as a road scholar so I would imagine he needs time in the system to get it right. This season he also tried to come in with more muscle mass and I think his speed and shiftiness suffered.
  6. Last year was indeed a disappointment for both Lynch and Jackson in my opinion. I agree that they are different types of RBs but when not suspended as the starter Lynch was more productive producing TDs. It is really sad to see some people that say Jackson is the better back even though the guy can't score TDs. That is how much some of our fans let their personal feelings get in the way of reality. Somehow they get it in their thick little skulls that Lynch, the guy that scores twice as many TDs when he is the starter, is some how not the best RB on the team. People jumped up and down for the 2 years previous. "Give Jackson a chance" , "Lynch is a thug" (boarder line racist comment when only applied to black players by the way). Well, Jackson had the whole year to start and netted a whopping 2 rushing TDs for the entire year. Any fan that is ok with that and thinks he is the best RB on the team deserves 10+ years of loosing.
  7. Explain it however you like you don't have the integrity to answer direct questions asked of you. I continually give what I ask and if someone asks me a direct question I give a direct answer. This is why my "nuttiness" is credible because I am not afraid to give a straight answer. You do yourself a disservice. How do you expect anyone to believe what you say when your views do not hold up against the light of day and can't withstand scrutiny or questions to clarify your stance. Your opinion means pretty much nothing and you of course missed the point of my statement. The stats you quote for Jerome Bettis are likely to be close to being true but you don't understand what it is to be a good RB. If Willy Parker was so good why wasn't he in there in the red zone more? Don't you want your best RB in the game when you are closest to scoring? Not that you will answer those questions because you KNOW if you answer honestly with a "yes" it directly refutes the BS drivel you are trying to get people to buy. You are a complete joke. A man who is actually right will answer any and all questions regarding his beliefs because he knows he is right and doesn't fear scrutiny. Let the Marshawn hate go buddy!! It's so petty that you are trying to paint a picture of reality that matches your beliefs instead of seeing what is so painfully obvious to anyone with a brain......when each is the starter Marshawn scores TWICE as many TDs as Fred Jackson. Period....end of story....FACT....not up for discussion!! A RB's job is a bit more than just score TDs but I think by far we can agree that getting into the end zone and keeping the other guy out is the whole point of the game.
  8. LOL. Too bad Jackson couldn't get his "action" into the end zone. I like Freddie but are you really trying to compare the TD machine Thurman with fast freddie? Man you are desperate to reclaim past glory if you are going there.
  9. I hear ya. I was TOTALLY impressed with the 2 measly rushing TDs he had for the whole year. Don't let what you think of Marshawn off the field cloud your vision of what is very obvious on the field. I like them both. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses. ONE of them gets into the end zone!!!!! That "ONE" is Marshawn.
  10. Well one thing we can be sure of is that our previous administration was not guilty of having a great eye for talent. LT debacle, RB who can't score TDs, every QB on the roster, Byrd ONLY started due to injury and he was one of our best guys on either side of the ball, Maybin, etc.
  11. To the point of the post the RB situation was only a part of the issue. We did of course have soooo many other holes as well. One of the things that I am truly the most happy about this year is a different strength and conditioning coach(es). We have had or were close to the most IR players every year for the last 2 or 3. Our starters are ok in many places but when they go down and you are calling on 2nd and 3rd string guys and practice squad guys to be your starters you aren't going very far as a team.
  12. Can you please tell us the all important stats you are using that clearly makes Jackson the better RB? The stat that I like to look at is TDs. You know, the one that puts points on the board? But hey, that's just me. I like when we win games.
  13. I knew you couldn't answer a direct question with a "yes" or "no". A testament to your integrity or lack there of. I will do what you are unwilling to and answer your questions. Yes, in 2005 Bettis was the better back for the steelers. Yes, in 2008 Lendale White was the better back for the Titans. See how easy it is to answer a question as opposed to answering a question with a question? See how easy it is to respond with a yes or a no instead of a paragraph that never addresses the points that the person you are debating with made? Yards are very important but you don't want the offensive equivalent of the bend don't break defense. The "gain yards but don't score" offense. Yards are nice and they move the offense along but if you aren't getting into the end zone it doesn't amount to jack ****. I think you're smart enough to get the fact that points are what wins games. By the way, in 2009, Chris Johnson by that time was clearly the better back for the Titans. Also, one could easily argue that Bettis was always better than Parker. Bettis is a shoe in for the Hall of Fame. Meanwhile the Steelers drafted 2 RBs to try to help their run game and currently it is unlikely that Parker will be a Steeler and nobody is beating down his door for his services. So...there ya go.
  14. Apparently Mr Weo likes to take simple statements and assume something completely unintended by the author. Once or twice is an honest mistake or speaks to the author poorly wording his statement but I think a pattern has developed here.
  15. I think we can all definitely agree on that!
  16. Have you heard of the phrase "apples and oranges"? LOL. If it wasn't PAINFULLY obvious I am talking about comparing 2 RBs ON THE SAME TEAM. Using numbers to compare Steve Jackson of the Rams to LT formerly of the Chargers doesn't really tell us to much does it? They are surrounded by a completely different group of guys and largely play a different set of opponents. I assumed people wouldn't attempt to make that incorrect leap of logic that you assert. My fault for assuming. And I said "smart guys out there" in a sarcastic way. It was for those who would come back with the "Fred Jackson scored 2 receiving TDs vs Lynch averaging 1/2 a receiving TD his last 2 years as a starter." It was a preemptive strike for those that might try to use that tact as validation of their claim that Fred was the better back. It is a relatively small sample size but Lynch basically scores twice as many points as Jackson. I don't know about you but last time I checked it's points that wins games. So other than attempting to extrapolate my reasoning and logic to a ridiculous unrelated situation I assume you agree with me then? Or should I assume that somehow you feel the guy that puts half the points on the board is the better back? As is the norm around here I doubt you will provide me with a direct answer to those questions. A simple yes or no would do.
  17. I see the exact opposite. I give Fred Jackson the nod when it comes to cut back running though. When the hole that is supposed to be there isn't, Fred is better at finding other options. When the hole IS there Marshawn beast mode is better. Something that I didn't quite realize was as the starter how many rushing TDs did Fred Jackson have vs Marshawn Lynch? While everyone was singing Jackson's praises for getting the starting job we some how missed that our starting RB ONLY had 2 rushing TDs for the ENTIRE year. How does producing 2 TDs, 12 points, for an entire season make him a better RB? For the smart guys out there. You can also include passing TDs. Even WHEN you do this when Marshawn was the starter he averaged twice as many TDs in 2007, 2008 vs Fred in 2009. I like Freddie a whole lot but you can't say he is the better back just because you don't like Marshawn's image or off field issues. Yards and more importantly TOUCH DOWNS matter the most. The guy that gets the most is the best. End of story.
  18. LOL. Ya...Jason Peters who when in Buffalo, one of the smallest markets in the league, has fans in places like Seattle rallying the troops to come out in mass support to vote for him. ROFLOL. Riiiiiiiiight. What is more likely is that people like your self fill out those ballots to voice your displeasure of guys like Peters and also of course to support some other candidate possibly in places like Seattle. And no I have never filled out a pro bowl ballot.
  19. Again wrong comparison. I'll freely admit that I would trust their opinion over mine. However I trust current players and coaches opinions over theirs? See the difference? You're fighting on the wrong battlefield. It's Cross and Banks vs all of the current players and coaches that voted him to the pro bowl in spite of a 1/3 weighted negative fan vote who like yourself generally consider him over rated. Do you realize how much bigger a statement that makes the players and coaches support?
  20. Your logic is flawed. No matter how many times the fans vote it counts for 1/3. This means that players and coaches, who each account for a 1/3, voted for Peters in such numbers that it over came a negative fan vote. Do you see those flaws in your thinking? If the fans hate him and the fans count for 1/3 the vote that means the fans didn't vote him in. Likely very much to the contrary. You can't use fan vote to discredit his nomination when the fans think he is over rated.
  21. It's certainly not my opinion vs Cross and Banks. It is the rest of the NFL that comprises 2/3s of the voting for the probowl!!!! Don't try to make it me vs them. It's those two vs everyone else whose opinion really does matter. Given that fan voting is 1/3 and apparently Buffalo AND Philly fans think the guy is overrated it would appear that that 2/3s vote of the players, coaches and GMs out ways and over came unfavorable fan opinion.
  22. As they say if you don't want to hear about it don't read it. You didn't read it but still you felt it necessary to respond on a topic that apparently some people are still passionate and continue to talk about even though you tell us no. I think we'll make our own decision thank you. You do however hit the nail 100% on the head in that we should have taken care of him earlier after his first pro bowl and would still have him on our roster and have kept him for less than what the Eagles had to pay him. People will continue to talk about it as long as their are people that somehow inexplicably think it was a good move and JP isn't a great/pro bowl LT. It's fun to shoot down their lame explanations and bogus stats they throw out there. There are some real inventive ones though like the guy that provides the ranking of ALL tackles not just LT and says Peters is way down on the list. I was just recently educated to the fact that these stats of mysterious origin are for pass blocking only. Shame on them!
  23. WOW...This will be the second time I have said "thank you" to a fellow forum member today. I must be getting soft. LOL. THANK YOU. Usually I think outside the box and catch things like this but WOW! If what you say is true it ignores what is quite possible Peters' strength, run blocking. Throw that in and we would likely see the highly ranked pro bowl left tackle that I see with my eyes despite the irresponsible use of statistics smear campaign some have been waging. People also like to conveniently forget that over the last year and a half Peters has been battling a groin injury and recovery from surgery. No one man is responsible for a team stat but this lead me to take look at our rushing TD production Peters' last year when he was hurt, fat, lazy and gave up on us vs this past year without him. WITHOUT Peters and our GREAT young rookie guards with an upgrade at center. 2009 6 TDs Ranked 29th WITH Peters and a bunch of over paid bums. 2008 12 TDs Ranked 11th We didn't miss him much did we? Food for thought haters!!!!
