Unlike Bell Peters actually showed promise and made a meteoric rise from TE to probowl LT in about 3 years. It's this type of philosophy that got us into this situation. Making the exception the rule. "Tom Brady was a late round pick so we can wait until the 6th round to get a franchise QB." "We turned a TE into a pro bowl LT with Peters ...we can do it again." "Ben Roethlisberger didn't have a great 0-line when he won his last superbowl." Blah blah blah. These are called exceptions for a reason people.

Yo retard. How well would a QB throw from his back? The prospect isn't very encouraging. Even our GM has said exactly that. We are not talking about a average or below average o-line we are talking terrible. I don't know how your Alzheimer riddled brain can't see that a bunch of cast offs from other teams and 2 second year guards one with a SERIOUS leg injury makes our situation dire. Yes ROFLOL is an acronym grandpa. With the advent of these magical little devices called cell phones and IM clients a new vernacular has evolved. You could always write me a letter expressing your fondest sentiments and spray some of your girly perfume on it. It's an internet forum jackass. We use acronyms. That being said I am unfortunately probably older than you. Despite your attack on my choice of words your point still shows what little intelligence you really have. Nice try to shift the focus from your own idiotic statement. You were probably fighting over who should be captain(QB) while the Titanic was sinking.

Anyone who doesn't realize that Lee is easily a 1000yd 10TD WR is blind. Lee actually accomplished those numbers with JP Losman. If it wasn't for old noodle arm Edwards and his pension for whimpy checkdowns he would still be putting up those numbers. How about we get a real QB with a big nfl arm, some balls and an offensive line that can hold up for more than 2 seconds? Then let's see how good Lee looks. We somehow managed to Terrell Owens look bad! I suppose you are just trolling to get a rise out of people but use your head. Lee Evans isn't the problem. Lee Evans is like the original Steve Smith. Not quite as good but without any of the baggage. Steve Smith has had HUGE ups and downs and it all comes down to the performance of his QB.

That or an offensive line that can actually open up holes in the running game. Our success on the ground is largely due to the RBs being that good. Lynch survived on determination and carrying half the opposing team on his back. Jackson survived by being a great cut back runner because there were never any holes where they were supposed to be and he had to find another way. Imagine what those two guys could look like if every once and a while they didn't have to make their first "move" or get their first contact until BEYOND the line of scrimmage? That would be exciting as HELL to watch.

ROFLOL. Are you serious!?!??!?!!?? Let me take a wild wild guess here....you want a QB with the #9 over all pick? Our line is in TERRIBLE TERRIBLE shape. At the bare minimum we need at least 2 starters and that is if Woods is healthy and doesn't switch to his true position center. That says absolutely nothing about our glaring lack of depth. Nice try

Don't you mean 1996?

Hey people thought Trent Edwards was a franchise QB. The poster above actually spoke to this quite well. Why does he have to be a "franchise" QB? That means different things to different people anyway. The actual important part is that he is way better than what we have! Some people think there are 3 or 4 franchise QBs currently in the league. Some think that number is more like 16. By the numbers another poster put up, if you think Kurt Warner is a franchise QB with Fitzgerald, Boldin and Breaston, then Jason Campbell is a star in waiting working with crappy ass Santana Moss and some other chumps.

I am not one to worry about trade up/down scenarios because from an individual team perspective it rarely happens. The Bills' history shows that we are much more likely to trade up. That being said I think that might be the only scenario where someone might want to trade up for our spot if Claussen drops. As usual a portion of the problem is that we would need to feel that we can still fill our needs without reaching by trading down and that actually gains us something.

Cool heads prevail! He is just a big upgrade at QB compared to what we have. Don't believe me? Look at the numbers, the line he has had to work with and a new offensive coordinator/scheme every year. IF he becomes more than that, so much the better.

Cody doesn't have to be an immediate stud he just has to eat up space like he eats up momma's cookin'.

Heh heh.

I hear ya now. I believe in your argument in principal. Although you wouldn't get "youth" with the #9 pick you would get most likely get a better "player" with the #9 pick than you could realistically get in the draft. Trading away a 1st is always tough though. You better be careful with your Wilfork talk and comparison to Jason Peters though. ***QUEUE THE ...."Wilfolk is a lazy, fat, doughnut eating, locker room cancer, loyalty lacking, greedy bastard talk" that everyone spewed about Peters because their poor little feelings were hurt because the guy wanted to be paid what he was worth. The Eagles did pay him what he was worth and gave up a 1st and a 3rd for the right to do it!!!!!!!!

Me too. I say lets stick with the crap we have at QB. Who needs a potentially dynamic play making QB who possibly still has 4.3 speed and has to be accounted for on every snap of the ball.
-
LOL. I'm not sure how real world it is. The only problem with every single one of these threads is that it assumes a trade partner. I love speculation but there are limits. Every under .500 team across America has some sort of trade down thread that gets started every year. People love to speculate but it RARELY ever happens in the grand scheme of things. If anything history has taught us that Ralphie is far more likely to trade up than to trade down. THEN of course there is always the "this is my mock draft if we trade away player XYZ that is a great performer that I don't like for personal reasons" thread.

AH....the annual we should trade down thread.

The switch to 3-4 are we set at LB?

How "big" do you need to be to play ILB? -
What is confusing about that?

Are we sure Bell can't be a good OLT?
PDaDdy replied to BobChalmers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know that that is the right questions. Bell won't be good enough for 2010 so we still need a LT. That being said Bell might not EVER be good enough to be a starting LT. Some have even said he wouldn't be good enough at RT. -

Oh it worries me too. I think we definitely need to bring in some free agents who will at the VERY least provide depth and hopefully push for starting jobs. I think we are generally going with the youth movement on the o-line and it would probably make more sense to continue with it and finish the job building through the draft. It also looks like all of the good NTs are being locked up by their current teams this week so our only options at that spot might be in the draft as well. QB and LB are probably better filled through free agency for 2010. IMO specifically at QB there is talent out there that would be a definite upgrade over what we have. They might not be big flashy names or a top 10 QB pick but with an improved offensive line they would be an big improvement. Depending on Maybin's ability to convert and Schobel's ability to convert, if he doesn't retire, we definitely need a free agent LB for depth. If Schobel does retire we definitely need a free agent starter and another for depth. There are some names out there at LB that could really help us depending on how much money we want to spend. -

Depth is a BIG problem. NT Basically we need a veteran OR another big body late round pick. I don't see McCargo being able to step up here. Kyle Williams has continued to surprise and overcome all odds. He could be an emergency NT and let Spencer Johnson play the defensive end position he would vacate. LB At LB Nic Harris. Ellison is too small but we have all been saying that for 4 years and somehow he still ends up starting every year for several games. We need a free agent or late round pick here. DB We should be all set here. We have DBs coming out of our backside! My sig is what I project for starters but we definitely need more depth. THAT will be the real challenge. Remember we will be playing out of a 3 - 4 but I expect a lot of 4 - 3 in there too hence the "hybrid" statement. -

We won't need to reach. We will be in perfect position to get an LT in the first and a NT in the second. Unless we have our RT on the roster or someone is targeted in free agency we should spend our 3rd on a RT or possibly a QB sleeper that we LOVE. imo I think we HAVE to get at least one LB in free agency. He is a dick head but Joey Porter would fit the bill. -

PDaDdy replied to Thirty Year Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMO...no. We have other big needs right now. Maybin WILL start as one of the OLBs. If he doesn't call him a bust now. If he doesn't retire, Schobel is a shoe in for the other OLB spot. Nic Harris will be in his second year and if memory serves he wasn't really a weight lifter in college. Harris was actually a safety and was already big for that position. The Bills switched him to LB when he joined the team. He should be able to continue to put on a good deal of weight and should be able to cover as well or better than any LB we have because he was originally a safety. It always depends on what we do in free agency but I think the earliest we could look at LB would be the 4th round. In my opinion LT, NT, QB, RT are our biggest concerns right now. If we can take care of one of those positions in free agency and ignore our lack of depth we could possibly get a LB in the 4th. -
We have crossed paths over other issues but you are spot on with the numbers and conclusions here. Haters are going to hate no matter what the facts. Some will even hate the guy not because of who he is but who he isn't. Their savior QB of the day that they emotionally tied themselves to.

New coach new QB. As predictable as snow in Buffalo. What would actually surprise me is if they actually kept him!!!!
-
Campbell would be a very serviceable QB and massive upgrade to what we have now. Buffalo hasn't been able to draft a QB since 1983. To make matters worse we got chump free agent QBs to come in that provided absolutely NO competition to the crap that we got in the draft. I can only recall twice where we got a legit QB who had some years of experience under their belt and proven success. Look at Campbell's numbers. He qualifies. Doug Flutie and Drew Bledsoe Yes, I said Drew Bledsoe. He was great his first year and then things headed down hill when Price got dealt to Atlanta leaving Moulds with Josh Reed as his #2. Hrmmm....sounds like the same problem Evans had for the last 5 years until butter fingers TO came to town. It is interesting to see some of the proponents of Campbell that are also really high on getting a QB in the draft at #9. I would rather continue the youth movement and fix the line starting with a LT at #9 and let Campbell run the show. Gailey could really do something with that guy. With a better line and improved running game Campbell could be just what the doctor ordered.
