  1. Yeah that is strange to me. Kind of surprised the Bills didn't bring him back at a reduced salary. Mine: I thought this was Sammy's year to break out and the foot would be fine for the start of the season I have only picked the niners, rams, first Pats* and second Pats* game right. I had them beating the Ravens, Jets, and Dolphins and losing to the Cardinals. I thought Gilmore would show better in a contract year
  2. Linky no worky but I am imagining it was him at the Clemson game. You realize that they played on Thursday so had Saturday night off right? However I digress, if he didn't go they probably would have won week thr- oh.
  3. If he were smart he would have set his coffee maker to brew before he wakes up. 3 minutes he will never get back!
  4. All of these teams as well as the Pats* who are mentioned later in the thread had one thing in common. A firmly entrenched starter. In the Steelers, Packers, and Pats* instance they have HOFers. They also have a ton of money tied up in that qb so they are getting their backup on the cheap. Also doesn't it seem like the Bills have started to do this? They took Cardale who has all of the measurables you could want and seems to be a gamer but still needs work. If Taylor gets his option picked up this year I see another qb being drafted to assume the Cardale role while he gets elevated to backup (the EJ role). Every year is a bit much but I do like the idea of having a defined backup qb and a developmental qb on the roster at all times.
  5. Certainly an exercise is showing who will jump on the bash Rex before we have verified info train.
  6. Seriously. Did OP ever post a pic or is this just a chance to bash Rex? Google has zero results and I didn't see him shown on the broadcast. I would imagine if he was there Fox would have covered it.
  7. I agree but those moves have some distance to them. I see the long term planning and have to trust BB with his track record but this trade is just weird for a lack of a better word. Before this season Collins was on the list of must haves to re-sign. I won't argue that he is better than Hightower but he has been more durable. I'm surprised to see the Pats* banking on a player who has only played 12 games each of the last 2 years. The compensation seems low to me as well. Interesting move that we will have to wait and see how it turns out. Whenever I want to jump to a conclusion and be definitive I think back to the unanimous reaction to the Trent Richardson trade and how wrong everyone was. As a Bills fan though I hope it blows up in their faces!
  8. I agree that he did a very good job not slinging mud but I did find these 2 quotes interesting: Are you at all hurt that they seem to be insulting you on the way out the door? “No. That shows their character. I’m good. I’m happy.’’ “I don’t know what the situation is. I don’t know anything about Von Miller money. I don’t know nothing about none of that. That just shows what they like over there. But I know Von Miller money didn’t come out of my mouth. I’m not Von Miller. Let’s have some common sense.’’ Twice he hit with the "that just shows what they like over there." You have to imagine there is a breaking point somewhere of although they win, people don't want to be treated like meat. Does a move like this cause problems in the locker room and create a distrust? I know it is a different sport (same town) but the Celtics traded away Kendrick Perkins and the team was never the same after that. There was major issue in the locker room over the move. I know as long as they have Brady and Belicheck they will be competitive but I wonder how this makes the rest of the team feel.
  9. The Heatles started 9-8. It will take some time for sure but this team will be dangerous. There aren't many teams like the Spurs. On a side note... The Lakers have a better record than the Warriors!
  10. Let me preface this comment with an "I think the Bills are going to get destroyed this week" This is a great game to go to. There are zero expectations that the Bills will win this game. If they get beat hey we expected it. If they win though, the Cap will be electric and it will be one of those games that sticks with people.
  11. P1: WR P2: S, CB P3: OT, NT, TE P4: QB, OG, C P5: OLB, ILB, DE P6: HB I would like to see a TE grabbed early this year as I think there is a couple of good ones and it would help with the WR problem. Safety is a huge concern for me as is CB if Gilmore walks. Round 1: Best WR/TE/S available Round 2: Best of the 2 left over positions adding in OT/NT as a possibility Round 3: Any of P1-P3 on my list
  12. BBF I hope you are simply trolling here and throughout this thread... You want to force the Pats* into doing what they do best?!?! The short pass game is their bread and butter. They can run the ball and do it well but their short passing game is the best in the league. If anything the Bills need to disrupt their short passing game and force them to either run or throw deep. Blount is a man possessed this year so even forcing them to run, after what ajayi did on Sunday, isn't necessarily a winning recipe. There is more to the team than Brady and if you are sticking on the offensive side, Gronk is the next best player and (imo) Brady's safety blanket. However now taking him away leaves Martellus Bennet and Edelman who are great players in their own right. So yes you are correct that there is more to the team than Brady but you aren't being honest with yourself if you say a qb who unarguably is top 10 of all time (maybe even #1) isn't the first person a team needs to stop. Also can we stop with the Pats* have no real fans. Sure they have more bandwagon fans than most but that doesn't mean they don't have "real" fans too. It is ridiculous to say that someone can't be a fan if they weren't pre-Brady. That means pretty much anyone 24 and younger can't be a Pats* fan because they wouldn't be pre-Brady. I bet if some of here are honest we are Bills fans because they were a great team at the time we were getting into sports. The majority of fans that are 30-40 fall in that category. We aren't better fans because we put up with losing.
  13. Yes I watch quite of it of him but I don't think we see the same passer. I see a passer much like Tyrod that extends plays with his feet and gives his wrs a chance to get open. He can catch fire and he can make great throws but it isn't the norm. He doesn't carry the team with his passing. These are the things that lead me to make the comparison. I don't disagree that the Bills should be looking to improve the position but I do disagree that the book is written on Tyrod. I think he has room to grow as he has only started 21 games during which he has gone 12-9. I would like to see more and haven't made up my mind yet. This decision doesn't need to be made for at least 9 more games and the picture should be much clearer by then. This talk is just as premature as playoff talk imo.
  14. So did you skip the majority of the post that included stats? Wilson is not a great passer by any stretch of the imagination. In 4 1/2 years he has 6 300 yard games. That is over the course of 70 games. Add in the playoffs and he has 8 games over 80. So 1 in 10 games he will throw for 300 yards. The comparison wasn't made because of height or running ability it was made because of their passing ability and perception. I'm sure you would love Wilson to be the QB of the Bills. Until he was.
  15. This is as good a place as any to put this: What would you say if I told you there was a starter currently in the league that is in his 5th year starting, had 1 300 yard passing game in his first 19 starts, has 6 300+ yard passing games in his 4 1/2 years in the league, and has a career average of 221 ypg? Would you want this guy as your starter? What about a guy who has 5 tds to 1 int this year, has led his team to an average of 19.5 ppg, and 3 times led his team to 12 or fewer points, and cost 18.2 million against the cap this year? Would you want this guy as your starter? This guy is Russell Wilson and most everyone here would love to have him as the starter. Tyrod may not be Wilson yet but it isn't far fetched to think he can be (the numbers aren't far off when you compare the starts of their careers) or that you can win with this type of production as evidenced by Wilson. You can win a Super Bowl even as Peyton and Wilson have demonstrated recently. Tyrod certainly has some growth to do and he can certainly be better but he isn't the worst qb in the league or even really close to it. His is a middle of the road starter and could potentially grow into much more. This hand wringing because he didn't jump in and start going stat crazy needs to stop. His record as a starter is 12-9. Watch some other games around the league and you will realize that we could be much worse off.
  16. I don't have a good feeling about this week. The fins game not only laid a blueprint, it may have exposed the Bills as well. The Pats* have an incredibly well rounded offense. They can stretch the field, they can play the short passing game, or they can pound the ball. Whatever a team struggles to stop the Pats* will focus on. The poor tackling yesterday was frightening to see. There were several times the Bills had Ajayi wrapped up or stopped and he broke the tackle. Even Damien freaking Williams got stopped at the 5 and carried defenders into the end zone. Pats* get back Brady and Ninkovich from the last time they played. The Bills get Shaq Lawson and lose Shady. I hate to be doom and gloom I just don't see how the Bills win this game. However, Sunday morning I will be convinced the Bills will win. Right now I see an ugly game and ugly final score.
  17. Same crew as week 1 and I read that Buffalo is 2-2 when he refs while the Fins are 1-0.
  18. Even removing Seifert still places him at #5 just for his era before the discussion of guys like Dan Reeves or Marty Schottenheimer or Mike Ditka or Jim Mora. If one was inclined to make a list of the top coaches of all time I think Marv would have a hard time cracking the top 20-25. However to knock Seifert based on Holmgren and Shanahan is something I won't agree with. Yes he did inherit a great team and had a great coaching staff but that can't be a knock on someone. Who is to say Holmgren and Shanahan (also not a great coach - rode Elway's coat tails imo) are as successful as they were without Seifert's teaching them? Does Marv get credit for Ted Marchibroda and Jim Kelly who ran the Bills offense? I don't want to go too far down this rabbit hole as I love Marv and all he did for the Bills I just don't view him as a great coach.
  19. No I don't think he was a great coach. He had a great collection of talent but just looking at who he lost to in the SBs would you rank Marv over Parcells, Gibbs, or Jimmy Johnson? I don't think he was a terrible coach by any means but I don't think he is in the pantheon of great coaches in the league. I love Marv but even in his era I don't think he was a top 5 coach. Shula, Parcells, Gibbs, BIll Parcells, and George Seifert all go in front of him. He is on the Schottenheimer level of very good coach but not great imo.
  20. I hate to be conspiracy theory guy but this is what I have thought for a long time now. I think the Pats* got caught cheating again and that is why the team took the punishment. No way Kraft lays down a first round pick and money for no reason or to be a good soldier. It has always sat wrong with me that the spygate tapes were immediately destroyed. What was the point of that unless there was more to it than we know. A second go round of cheating and I could see the league office and other owners not being happy about it. If you recall the week before Brady was incredibly smug about "maybe they need to learn the rule book" with their substitutions and eligible receivers in the Ravens game. Ultimately I can't see the league digging in on this issue for no reason. It makes more sense to me that they are digging in but not disclosing the true reason as it would be bad for the league than just to get Brady and the Pats*. I want to start with I agree that Brady is great and a first ballot lock. Now to say they would have done nothing without Brady is a bit of revisionist history. In the first SB win he went 16-27 for 145 yards. In the next 2 he played very well but all 3 games were 3 point or less wins. In the 4th the Seahawks blew it. So 2 Super Bowls were won on Vinatieri's leg and 2 sealed by the defense. I agree that Alex Smith isn't Tom Brady but I do think that he has been aided throughout his career by playing for (imo) the best coach of all time. They make each other so I won't say that his success is all BB or vice versa just that he landed in a perfect spot for a QB and he took that opportunity and ran with it. I think if you switch Manning and Brady the conversation switches about which is clutch and which is a playoff choker. Brady always had the better coach and most years had the better team.
  21. Yup I also enjoyed this one. It wasn't quite what I expected and exactly what I expected if that makes sense. Good solid entertainment for 2 hours.
  22. That was an off season trade with a bunch of caveats that don't apply to a Marshall trade. 1. off season trade 2. The Pats* had a qb in waiting 3. IMO they knew that Bledsoe wasn't a difference maker at that point in his career 4. It involved a 1st round pick - Marshall isn't garnering anywhere near that. You had to go back 10+ years to find a good example which kind of goes along with my point of I don't think it will be in the division if he is traded (I would be shocked if he is - maybe this off season at the earliest imo)
  23. Alshon Jeffery has struggled with injury problems himself. Could you imagine having that much money tied up in a position with guys who weren't on the field? He is a great player. When healthy. Would love it but even if he is available as Kirby said I don't see the Jets trading him in the division.
  24. I did some digging as this conversation piqued my interest. 19 carries a game equals out to 304 carries in a 16 game season. In 2015 only 1 rb had more than that In 2014 only 2 rbs had more than that (Shady was one) In 2013 only 1 rb (Shady) had more than that In 2012 5 rbs had more than that In 2011 only 1 rb had more than that In 2010 7 rbs had more than that It (surprisingly to me at least) doesn't appear that most rbs do average 19 carries a game. There is still a lot of football left so his total could go up or down but I came to 2 conclusions: 1. Shady has proven that this workload can be handled by him as he has done it twice in the past 2. Running Back By Committee really has taken the league by storm as I went back for team carries to 2010 and every single team in the league every year was over 20 carries a game. 19 carries a game actually is a lot in the current NFL.
  25. I think what Big Cat was getting at (and he can correct me) was that the Rex issue was unrelated to the Mario issue. Mario sucked last year and it is on Mario that he sucked. It seems he is positing that Mario is to blame for Mario and Rex is to blame for the units overall failing not the failures of Mario individually.
