  1. Yes, bench EJ and start Orton. But after a while, maybe a couple of years, Orton will start to seem like another Fritz. In other words a QB that has enough athletic limitations that fans are going to want to see him replaced. But the team is not going to be bad enough to get close to the top of the draft. So they'll end up taking a QB with a high upside, but with enough flaws in his game that he slips down out of the top 10. So, in about 3 years or so, what they'll get is another EJ Manuel!
  2. I think the Browns are really going to regret not drafting Sammy. Without Josh Gordon they may have the worst group of receivers in the NFL.
  3. Everybody thinks their team is better right now and of course they can't all be right. But if the Bills did nothing but stay healthier they'd improve. Byrd was the biggest loss, but he missed a lot of time. The OL has gotten a lot more talent as did the LB core. Those were the biggest weaknesses last year. They also got the best playmaker in the draft. I think a lot of the pundits are down on the Bills only because they were down on Manuel.
  4. He never should have left Penn State early. As a Penn Stater and a Bills fan, I should be mad at him because his poor decision hurt both programs, but I'm not. He didn't fail due to a lack of effort. The Bills FO failed to see with his lack of bulk he wasn't going to be an every down player and way over drafted him.
  5. Bucky had Ebron and Lewan on the board at 9. I would take either of those players first due to better scheme fits and team needs. But not taking Barr because he seems "Maybin - like" is wrong. Jason Pierre-Paul was the same kind of player and he turned out all right. You can get "boom" sometimes with "boom or bust" players.
  6. Interesting how this trade effects the draft. I was really thinking that Mike Evans would be the pick, but now I see him going to Tampa Bay. They were a team looking at an OT and a number of mocks had them taking Lewan.
  7. Right now, Stevie Johnson is not expendable. Stevie is still the #1 receiver on this team. Woods is expected to pass him, but when? It could be in training camp or it could be next year. Williams has a lot of baggage with him. You've got to see whether he gets his act together before making a commitment with him. Even if Stevie does get passed on the depth chart, I'd ask him about restructuring his deal before cutting him. Losing talent at WR is not what the team needs.
  8. In an indirect way, he helped the Bills go to 4 Super Bowl. If he didn't push to take on the NFL, the USFL could have remained in operation for a number of years and Jim Kelly would have never been a Bills QB. No Kelly, no Super Bowls. So we have a lot to thank him for already.
  9. I hope Jill writes another book after this is done - and Jim is there to contribute like on the first. http://www.jillk.org/author/without-a-word/
  10. I think he goes at 9. The big question on Evans was his separation speed and he showed he has enough. Watkins is even less likely to slip to the Bills now, but I don't think they can go wrong with Evans. Getting an impact pass catcher with the first pick then coming back on Day to build up the OL would be my vision of a perfect draft.
  11. http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2014/01/24/schwartz-says-flexibility-in-defensive-scheme/ Pettine made the best use of the personnel on hand to make his scheme fit. I believe Schwartz will do the same. Gailey wanted to make the defense into a 3-4 when he was first hired, when it wasn't suited for it. That bad memory is still fresh in a lot of people's minds.
  12. I wouldn't trade below 17. We'd need to get at least another 2nd and stay ahead of the Jets, who also need a playmaker. Now if Cleveland includes their #1 in the 2015 draft in the deal, I'd do it.
  13. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings You can downgrade the position a little, but at some point the talent becomes too great to ignore and getting an OT to upgrade over Pears is a need. I don't know if Matthews is truly the best player in the draft, but he is one of the best 3.
  14. While I think it would be better to wait for an OT until the 3rd round, if Matthews is there and Watkins was gone I have no problems taking Matthews. He's too just too good to pass on.
  15. No worries. Pettine is far too intelligent to go to such a toxic situation as in Cleveland.
  16. Why do people keep thinking Kiko would better outside? He did pretty well this year right where he was.
  17. You're assuming all the options would be there when the Bills pick. If they waited until this year they could have come up empty on getting a QB yet again.
  18. There's a chance Watkins is available at #9. There are probably 4 QB's taken in the top 8, so the highest rated 4 non Qb's are Clowney, Matthews, Barr and then Watkins. All it takes is for one team to make an off-the-wall pick.
  19. Glenn seems to be showing promise, but what about Pears? How has he played? There are a lot of outstanding OT's in the draft this that would be worth picking at #9, but do you take a guy that high to play ROT?
  20. If they go OT in the first round, I think keep Glenn at LOT and put the rookie at ROT. Maybe flip sides down the road. Regardless of who they take first, they should take the best available OG in round 2.
  21. Let's look back first. Say Cower had somehow been hired four years ago instead of Chan Gailey. Would the Bills be a legitimate Super Bowl contender right now? Cower is this pipe dream for Bills fans, as if he'll bring the Vince Lombardi trophy to Buffalo all by himself.
  22. It seems like the only game he watched was the Tampa Bay game. It's hard to see Manuel as the worst QB in the league. But even if he ought to be rated 10 to 12 spots higher, that still is far from good. Adding to the offense to get him some more help has to be the priority in the off season.
  23. The top rated player might be an OT when the Bills draft, but I would think if Glenn moves it should be to ROT. A potential better OLT would make for an outstanding pair of bookend tackles. They could still pick an OG later in the draft and upgrade two spots on the line. But how has Pears been playing? How much is there a need at ROT? I think Pears is strictly a tackle. I don't think he's a fit inside. Pears is only signed through this year, so moving Glenn inside with the intention of moving him back outside the following year would be the only way I would want to see Glenn as an OG.
  24. I don't get that either. Tuel looked good against Indianapolis, but that's it. I don't see him as someone another team is going to want to trade for down the line which is what you look for in a developmental QB. Their decisions with Tuel made a problem into a disaster.
