  1. Anthony Davis was the next tackle taken after pick 9 and he has more issues about his work ethic than Williams had. If Okung, who is a hard worker, slipped I think they wouldn't have hesitated to pick him.
  2. Why not? It's at least worth thinking about. If he comes in with a chip on his shoulders, works hard to prove everyone wrong and really learns what it means to be a professional he could untap his enormous potential. If not he's just another free agent cut loose.
  3. I lived in Wisconsin for 5 years and my in-laws are all big Packer fans. My father-in-law told me last year how much depth they had and were going to have to make some difficult cuts. I wasn't suprised the Bills took two off their practice squad. Brohm didn't show enough in the preseason games to make the roster. When he was drafted Rodgers had never started before so he was an insurance pick. He could blossom under Chan Gailey. The odds are more likley not, but it's such a low-risk high-reward type of signing I'm glad they took a chance on him. Meridith is another guy like Bell. He's got a high upside if he puts it all together. Just like Bell he needed a redshirt-type of year. Unfortunately the desparate OT situation didn't allow for it. He still got a chance.
  4. The defense should be quite a bit better than last year's by the end of season. I hope fans are patient, though, because it is going to take some time.
  5. The only games that will have the Bills as the favorite are the Cleveland and Detroit games. They'll be a few upsets along the way. There always are. It's going to take a while for the defense to come together. I believe we'll see a big improvement, but I just can't see it happening starting week 1. The offense depends on the line. Hardy has to step up and be a factor, but he can only do that with good QB play. Brohm or whoever the QB is will need to get good pass blocking to be successful. If not defenses will be totally focused on stopping the run. I'll be pessimistic and say 5-11. Take away Byrd's interceptions and they probably wouldn't have won 6 this past year. Low expectations just eliminate frustations later.
  6. Even the best miss a majority of the time. The problem is that's where we get most of the information a lot of the players. Last year, due to a lot of what I read, the thing I was pulling for was for the Bills not to draft Michael Oher. Why? Because eveyone was saying that he wasn't a hard worker, that because of the difficult backround he had he was coddled. He also probably wasn't suited for the left side and we had Langston Walker on the right. He sounded like Mike Williams II. How wrong that was. He was great last year and we'd be set at OLT for a decade. He might have saved Dick Jauron's job. That's the only negative I can think of if they had taken him.
  7. One trend that stands out in all these drafts - there are a lot of late round offensive linemen that never amounted to anything. Brad Butler was good, but not great. That's about it. The one that did was not on any of the lists, Jason Peters, because he was an undrafted free agent. Even if he was included you could argue that he was really signed as a wedge-busting 3rd TE, so credit can't be given to the scouting department.
  8. I heard this earlier tonight. It's good that Nix is looking into the tackles that are available out there. I hope Adams has enough in the tank left.
  9. It said in the link "the weeks preceeding the draft". Nothing there about after the draft.
  10. The good news in all this is that Nix looked into it. It means he's at least open to the idea and investigated the plusses and minuses of the player.
  11. Hopefully he's not that inflexible. That's the right way to build - primarily through the draft, but it can't be the only way. He has signed a few free agents, so there's some hope.
  12. A trade for Gaither is something that Nix ought to consider now.
  13. Quite an indictment of their scouting prowess. Draft grades are meaningless the day after the draft. Even last year's is looking better. All these 3-4, run stuffing DL guys that were brought in the draft and through FA should help Maybin see at least some production and maybe more. Now if you turn the tables and say draft grades are really a measure of how a draft analysist did in evaluating the players and in evaluating what teams will do in selecting them, then maybe you have something.
  14. Great. The 2011 draft is thin at offensive tackle. Guess they won't pick one high next year either.
  15. Has anyone actually watched a Central Florida game last year? I wonder how much tape of Troupe the draft "experts" that are on all the sites out there actually watched. I don't know how much of a reach you can really say he is. On the other hand, the ones at One Bills Drive who actually did scout him better be right. They're taking a huge risk not coming away from the first two rounds without an OT. Not taking Clausen is fine by me because no one else took him in round one. Taking a couple late isn't going to bring the immediate help this team desperately needs there. The defense has got to dramatically improve next year for this draft to be considered a sucess. If not Modrak might be the one to take the fall this time.
  16. But Polian could never get that one final piece when he was here - a big, run stuffing nose tackle. Every Super Bowl appearance saw our D-Line getting run over. We never could stop the run. Ted Washington was taken one pick before us(although he did stuggle his first few years). Sometimes you should move if you have a need that must be filled.
  17. Has anyone drafted Mike Johnson, the Right Tackle from Alabama? We'd be all set.
  18. We better have gotten Thurman Thomas, Ted Washington and Phil Hansen with our first 3 picks.
  19. Clausen went well into round 2. He just wasn't that highly regarded.
  20. Hopefully Saffold. Maybe Ducasse if they think he can be an LT. Either way they've got to get an OT.
  21. I'm with you. Bulaga fell to 23. Dan Williams was taken long after the Bills picked. Not one GM thought Clausen was worth taking with their #1 pick. Anthony Davis wasn't taken long after 9 but he's a risky pick. With the way the draft fell Spiller just doesn't seem like a bad pick. The key is going to be what they do in round 2 (I hate this one-and-done Thursday night thing). They've got to get an OT.
  22. He wasn't alone. Pro Football Weekly had him rated in the top 10 also.
  23. More likely Schoebel retires and Maybin becomes the primary source of the pass rush next year.
  24. If a board has him just below Okung it has no credibility. Brown is more like the 9th rated Offensive Tackle in the draft, not the 9th best player. Questionable toughness is his biggest question mark. He also needs to improve in the weight room.
