"Jasper didn't show nothing" . . . so you're saying he did show something? If so, then hopefully he gets to the practice squad.

Will Spiller fall below the Maybin line?
CSBill replied to CSBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And thus the point: 98 touches is not enough for a number 9 draft pick . . . Joc. Bell or Bruce Hall could have done that and probably would have been just as successful. Look, I'm not ready to bury him, and as I said before, I am hoping and wishing he will become the back the BIlls thought they'd get with him. But my point is, at this stage in his progress, he has done little to justify it. . . . and so far, based on the evidence before us, his production and results do not come close to his pay grade. YES, some of my assertions were probably overstated, and I hope he does become the guy. But at 9, "the guy" has to be better than average for the pick to be called a good one (e.g. Donte Whitmer). Believe me the last thing I want to do is curse him with the Maybin label, but so far, he's not much beyond it (yes, he is beyond it a little, but not nearly enough). . . . Just saying GO BILLS!!! -
Will Spiller fall below the Maybin line?

You're right Russ Brandon, if a number 9 pick even gets to average it's success. I shall now commence to lower my expectations for all Bills number one picks . . . I should have known better. -

None of us what to say it out loud, but is CJ Spiller heading in the same direction as Aaron Maybin? So far, very little production. And in my understanding of the way things work, running back may be the easiest way to have immediate impact in the NFL. It's not really a development position, you either have it or you don't. I would contend that any RB taken in the top ten, better be at an All-Pro level very early in their careers. If Spiller has another year like last year, I would say he is a worse pick than Maybin; drafted higher, at a position where success should come sooner than later, etc. I hope he doesn't, I would love to see him succeed, but a number 9 pick has to be more than just an average player; and at this point, Spiller is not even average.

I think he lost it in the first quarter of that Miami game? So far, Spiller has done nothing to warrant the 9th pick in the draft--honestly, not any pick. I hope he figures it out this year, but do you realize we're starting to talk about him with the same words we used for Arron Maybin in his second year: potential, figure it out, speed but no playing savvy, undersized, high pick--low results, etc. If Spiller doesn't produce soon, and at apro-bowl type numbers, he could very quickly surpass Maybin as the Bills all time worst #1 pick. It is not supposed to be this hard for running backs. RBs taken this early in the draft need to produce soon--soon and very soon. There are too many people out there that can do what they do (certainly what Spiller did), especially if it's not spectacular.

Well, when you don't have a good one, it shows in dramatic ways ..... we have a good one, he's should be at the top of the "lock" list

I have no idea what that means, but it sure did make me laugh!

If Moats is cut, that would be my biggest surprise; but, I could see it happening with the play of some of the new people. If he's cut, I don't think it's because he regressed, I think it is more the others around him have just improved. But what is interesting here is, the Bills coaches had already kind-of made an assessment on him when they moved him to ILB. Was that because they had already decided he wouldn't be able to stick on the outside with the additions there? I hope he sticks, but if not, I think it is easy to see why.

Fact -bills will be a lot better then last year

" I am not sold on Edwards." It's OK, he's not on the team anymore, Fitz is the QB now -
Mike Florio . . . genius!

Yeah, as Cotton F. astutely pointed out to us, Freddy is Maroon, and Thurman is, well, you know . . .

"Detroit makes me nervous.." then don't go there.

Insider: Nix hasn't addressed Bills greatest needs

Who is Jamie Kirlew? But I hope he can play LT? -
I was thinking maybe he would be better suited for cornerback, think of all the time the WRs would have to sue to get around him
-
This is not a bashing post, but yes, Bell was better than Spiller last pre-season, and in the right situation, I think he will be far more successful than Spiller. Just saying.

A Quick Thought About Merriman....
CSBill replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
HOF, I can't disagree with what you're saying about the line. But my question is: What upgrade is out there? If Waters was a good addition, I think someone, Bills or another team, would have snatched him up already. As I pointed out in the thread about Hairston, almost every team in the NFL says they would like to improve their line play. So if Waters is that good, why is he still unemployed? Anyhow, I do agree, if we can improve with an addition, go for it. But in the long haul, drafting good lineman and developing the ones you have, or get, is a far better solution than trying to bottom-feed on the NFL o-lineman free agent pond. -
No, the team will be better off with him developing at left guard and Bell developing at left tackle. Consider, for them, and for Hairston, o-lineman take time to develop. We're in a cycle of a lot of younger guys. I see this line as having a lot of potential, IF (notice the big "if"), they continue to develop. Yes, there has been some shuffling lately--coaches have their reasons and methods, they know and see things we don't, I suspect most of it was for motivational purposes--but I think in the end we have the nucleus for a pretty effective line for a long time. If we can add upgrades, go for it, certainly. By the way, it seems like every time NFL Network or the boyz at the four letter network analyze a team, they always seem to say the line needs to improve, especially right tackle. It's not an easy fix. There are no instant cures. The long term solution: Keep working at it, keep developing, and keep looking for potential upgrades. Well. my point: there is room for cautious optimism with this line and with the people we have now (Hairston being one of them). Call me a fool if you must.

Like I said, Kelsey may have got Pipped. Not because Kelsey is that bad, but Carrington just looks strong. I don't care what you call them: DE or OLB, the consensus is, right now,Carrington is the better player.

Ah, yes . . . that's the point of the reference. Actually, Wally had a headache and asked for the day off, so Lou Gehrig stared in his place that day, and the rest is history, 2000+ game starting streak record until Cal Ripkin broke it.
