TEBOW!!! is a Jet! (finally)
CodeMonkey replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't want that. No matter what you think of Tebows QB skills, you cannot deny that everywhere he has been to date (college or pro) the kid somehow finds a way to win. I don't want him doing that against the Bills twice a year, every year. So in short ... Jags, Tebow, please!! -
All Peyton Manning, all the time!

You mean as opposed to Thigpen? But I will grant you the distraction part because there would be an instant controversy, at least by some fans, as to who should start. -

Not this year. Not sure we had 1 month of winter. 80 degrees AND no humidity yesterday my friend -
I'm thinking not this year. Just sayin'.

Overpay is when you pay someone more than they are worth, it is a subjective term. The Bills paid what they had to to secure a marquee player. Nix obviously didn't think he was overpaying. It is easy to see why some might think that way though, 100 million for 6 years is a staggering amount of money when you think about it. Unless my math is wrong, that's 16.67 million per season. Or put another way, greater than 1 million dollars per regular season game. Just think about that for a minute, that's for one player, and a defensive lineman to boot. Some are going to think that is paying too much, it's their opinion. Not to mention the 50 million guaranteed. It is easy to see why Mr. Williams was all smiles, as was his fiancee I would imagine!

You see the same thing here about players that don't sign or leave. It's the same all over. -

Boy wouldn't that be just what the Dr. ordered for the Bills defense (pun intended ). -

Yeah next season will be interesting to be sure. Nix went all-in and we get to see if he was right or wrong. Not so much right or wrong to bring Williams to Buffalo, I think his record speaks for itself. But for cap considerations for the other positions of need. If he pulls off another strong draft this year, this could be an interesting season indeed. -
Jim Kelly's role in the signing

20 million dollars is the difference, and that's a lot of money I don't care who you are. If it made no difference he probably would have signed the contract much quicker. At the end of the day all things factored into his decision I'm sure. But I feel certain a low-ball offer (like 30 million guaranteed) would not have gotten the job done. You have to give Nix credit. He went all-in with this signing to be sure. -
The Super Mario signing should be a game changer to be sure. The defense now should be at least average in the NFL, if not above average. If they get a little more quality LB help and some depth, above average for sure. So a lot of this season rests on the shoulders of Gailey and his offense. Can he get both Spiller and FredEX engaged successfully? Can he figure out a way to keep the short passing game effective all season and not able to be shut down like it was the last half of last season? As always a lot depends upon how healthy the starters manage to be all season, on both sides of the ball. But I do not believe the offense, or the fans, will be able to blame the defense this season if things don't go well.

Lawyers need to make their money too. Wording about incentives etc. Maybe that's what he is waiting for, like a Governors pardon at 11:59 -

Waiting for a slowdown in season ticket sales today. Phone lines have been melting today, so they are going to wait for it to slow down and have the presser. So it will go back up again Or ... waiting for the extra sales people to arrive at the ticket sales office -
Brilliant, borderline clairvoyant I'd say

Mario Williams: Officially a Buffalo Bill
CodeMonkey replied to buffalo_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hmmm that seems reasonable. But yesterday wasn't the first day he knew about Buffalo's interest. That part of it could have been determined beforehand. But yeah I guess having his fiancee on board would be a big consideration, and showing her the area she would be spending at least half the year in makes sense. Still think it shouldn't take so long, but I have never been in his situation either. -

I'd love to be an observer in one of these situations once. I can't figure out what would take so long. Nix makes an offer, Williams either wants to play for Buffalo or he does not. If he does they negotiate contract terms which shouldn't take a large amount of time. If he does not he says no thank you and moves on. Seems like that's how it was for a lot of the other FAs, what's the difference here? Unless he is waiting for other offers to drive the Bills price higher, or using the Bills offer to drive someone elses offer higher? Like I said, I'd love to see how one of these situations works from the inside once. -
I don't at all buy the premise that he deliberately tanked any previous seasons in the hope of landing a big name FA now. But I do give him a lot of credit for having found himself in this cap situation and seeing a big name FA that he feels would make a immediate and significant impact, pulling the trigger and making a full court press for that FA (Williams). Not an easy proposition getting a guy that high on every GMs list, particularly for a small market team with a dismal recent history. Every indication is Nix is pulling out all the stops. Ultimately the final judgement is not dinners in Buffalo, but signings. Nix was most likely used by Meachem, but he is still in the hunt for the top prize.
