Those who like the Kolb signing post here
947 replied to Kellyto83TD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think people on this board forget that we will be running a West Coast Offense. A QB whose strength is WCO has to be a good thing. Kolb is strictly a West Coast Offense QB. He struggled in AZ partly because of the horrid OL, but he was a bit out of place in that offense. Another WCO QB was Jeff Garcia. After some really good years for the 49ers, remember when Garcia played in Cleveland & Detroit in traditional offenses? He was brutal. Everybody thought he was washed up, & went to Philly as a backup and thrived in their WCO. I keep hearing that Kolb over Fitz is a lateral move at best. Nobody knows how Fitz would've adapted to the new offense, he may have been even worse. I personally think Chan's offense masked Fitz's deficiencies. I like the move, but mainly because it affords the front office the option of drafting a blue chip player at #8 instead of being forced to take a QB like Nassib or Manuel out of necessity. I'm hoping we take a QB in the 2nd. -
Anybody know the Wonderlic scores for the QBs? I'd guess that Smith & Barkley are in the high range, and Manuel is a good bit lower based on what I've seen. Maybe the reason EJ's offense was so simple and relied on so many screens is that he couldn't handle complexity. I'll be pissed if we end up taking Manuel over Smith or Barkley because mobile option QBs are the flavor of the month, and we find out his Wonderlic is in the teens. RG3, Kaepernick, and R Wilson are very smart QBs and that's part of the reason they've been successful. Teams are gonna fail trying to copycat that model with Vince Young/Terrelle Pryor types.

I rarely watch College football, but I did watch the entire Orange Bowl this year (Florida State vs Northern Illinois). I was far from impressed with Manuel, and based on that game, I was shocked to hear he's being considered in the top-2 rounds. It seemed like most of the passes he completed were wide open screens. It seems like his stock increase is a product of having the perfect measurables, and not actually being a great QB. I hope I'm wrong, and I hope if he ends up on the Bills it's not at #8 overall.

Has anyone seen this team worse off than right now?
947 replied to billsfan_34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You forgot Steve DeBerg, Steve Bono, & Elvis Grbac. -
That description of Patterson is a joke. He is not even close to what AJ Green was coming out of college. Patterson would be a major risk anywhere in the first. That draft would be a worst case scenario for the Bills. Everybody we want, and everybody other teams would trade up for, are gone.

I'll be furious if we take a bust WR at #8. But getting Barkley in the 2nd would keep me off the edge, though it could never happen. I also find it hard to believe that we'd come out of the draft without a single LB, or even a DB. Serously, that draft would be a total bomb unless Barkley becomes a top-10 QB.

Can't Hairston step in at OG if Pears is healthy? Most teams projected him as a Guard in the draft, and I think that may be what Marrone has in the back of his mind if we don't sign anybody.

700lbs on the leg press is far from impressive. You'll see regular 180lb guys in the gym every day doing high reps with that and more. He's also wearing knee wraps (which make it easier) and only doing about 60% range of motion. I'm sure Troup could double the weight & still do reps, and the vid is probably just his warm-up. He looks great. I hope he's healthy & ready to finally contribute.

Bills officially sign QB Kevin Kolb
947 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have a feeling he'll be unemployed until after the draft. Kolb will be some team's consolation prize after missing out on a QB in the draft, hopefully not ours. -
This isn't Baseball. NFL has a cap floor which will prevent "moneyball" from ever truly being applied to the Bills. Getting bargains here and there is crucial to maintaining a solid roster under the cap, but not the basis for putting a team together. I think what the Pats have done the past decade is the ideal model of NFL moneyball. Let overpriced vets walk, unless they are a true difference-maker (Brady, Wilfork), stockpile draft picks, and pick up bargain FAs.

If you're going to start a rookie QB in 2013 . . .
947 replied to 1B4IDie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This! Everyone please stop with this Levitre was worth starting LT money. -
If Welker leaves NE, they'll sign Amendola in about 2 seconds and he'll do exactly what Welker did for cheaper and will be around longer. It sucks, but it's probably true.

Stevie wants DHB (Update - goes to Colts)
947 replied to NoSaint's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a great target for the Bills and exactly the type of WR we need opposite Stevie. DHB has been pretty solid the past 2 years, despite being forced into a WR1 role. He'd thrive as a WR2 here. -
Danario Alexander has MAJOR knee issues. I think most people forget that because he finally played a full season in 2012. I like him as a player & think he'd be a great fit, but the reality is that he'll be hurt a lot and should be paid as such, with an incentive-laden contract. If some team is stupid enough to pay him Stevie money, let him look elsewhere.

[closed]I Wanna Go on Record: MATT BARKLEY
947 replied to TheBackupQB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm really starting to warm up to the idea of Barkley at #8. There is no way he makes it to Round 2. Even if he did, there are several QB-needy teams ahead of us. -
I was thinking about him too. Great fit for Marrone's offense and would likely come cheap. Delanie Walker may be a better all-around TE, but Myers is the better receiver. I want him, hopefully the Bills feel the same. I really don't think Chandler will contribute at all this year. He'll at least start the season on the PUP, but could end up IR'd.

Falcons to release Turner, Robinson, Abraham
947 replied to JM57's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll be shocked if any NFL team picks up Turner, he's done. -
A fully healthy Pears is an above average RT. Hairston is strictly average. If the 2011 Pears is back, we'll be very solid at OT overall.

There is a 0% chance that the Cardinals, or any NFL team, have Matt Cassell on their radar as anything other than a backup. Let's not get our hopes up here. I guess there is a small chance the Cards go into the season with Kolb as the starter & Cassell as the backup. Which would be good for the Bills, but no way they see Cassell as a starter.

Austin is an ideal fit for what we need at WR 1B, in my opinion. A guy who can stretch the field across from Stevie and make plays in the open field. He has not lost a step, that is ridiculous. He's had some injury issues, but nothing major. Hopefully that just makes him affordable. He's a better fit here than Jennings or Bowe, that's for sure. The only question is can we afford him. If he gets cut, we'll be bidding against several teams. The Bills getting Austin would be almost too perfect for it to actually ever happen.

Cordarrelle Patterson - WR - Tennessee
947 replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Peter Warrick looked even better with the ball in his hands, and he also lacked the hands & route-running skills a top WR prospect should have. But he was a "playmaker", so he got drafted in the top-5. Once in the NFL, it became obvious that even elite open-field moves alone are not enough to make it in the NFL. And Warrick had MUCH more college success than Patterson. Unfortunately, there is no position in the NFL called Playmaker. Patterson has bust written all over him if he goes in the top half of the 1st. He's going to get so much hype, that he'll be drafted way too high and be expected to produce right away. He is a project and needs a few years to develop. -
Cordarrelle Patterson - WR - Tennessee
947 replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
True, in that highlight film, Patterson does appear to jump off the screen. The problem is that most of what he's doing in it does not require the skills of a WR. He can run in the open field as good as anybody I've seen the past few years, but he's lacking in actual WR skills. Patterson is a poor route runner and has below average hands, there's a reason why his highlight is filled with KO/Punt returns and Running plays. Body-catching the majority of passes on your highlight reel isn't a very good sign that you're NFL-ready. Patterson is not even the best Tennessee WR in this draft. He is a project, and would no way be ready to contribute the first year, except on returns. I doubt anybody drafts a project in the top half of Round 1, even the Bills. -
I can't see Cordarelle Patterson going anywhere near the top-10. As explosive as he looks on returns and in the open field, he's as raw as James Hardy was coming out- as far as actual WR play, like running routes and getting open. His highlight films are just him body-catching balls while wide open and taking it to the house, or returning punts for TDs. NFL teams aren't that stupid, and will view him as a high upside project.

I live in Chicago, and saw a lot of Knox. There is NO WAY Knox is a WR1, and I'd be reluctant to even call him a WR2. Yes, he was the Bears' WR1 for a year, but that was by default because they had literally nothing else at WR- similar to Miami rolling out Hartline as a WR1 last year. Knox is Donald Jones with speed and return ability.

Not so much loyalty by Driver, as it is the Packers organization's loyalty to him. Driver has been GB's WR5 for the past 2 seasons. I doubt any other NFL team would've let an over-the-hill WR5 stick around at the bottom of the roster despite not even playing special teams. Kudos to the organization.
