  1. Maybe a "jerk" is exactly what this team needs after 15 years of "nice guys"...
  2. Unless we move up to get Mack, I fear more of the same next year. Allen, Dareus, Kyle and Mario would be phenomenal though!
  3. Understood. However with us going back to the 4-3 this year, who else do we have?! Plus, any top tier draft pick DE that might be effective will be off the board at 9 i fear :/
  4. Better than any backup we have now! I'm on board!
  5. I know he's aging and wants big money. But he's averaged 14.5 sacks over 7 years and i think he's worth a shot opposite Mario. And we do have money to spend. Why not?!
  6. It goes without saying that the Bills need a reliable, durable and effective backup QB to be brought in at OBD. Okay, I get it. Marrone and co. are 100% committed to E.J. Manuel at least for the foreseeable future. And, in all fairness, Manuel deserves the chance to not only prove he can be "the guy", but prove he can stay healthy in doing so. However, there is that elephant in the room that cannot go ignored any longer. Injuries are an inevitable part of the NFL. This organization, through 15 years of mediocrity, has not addressed depth. At one position in particular, the most important one on the field, at that, Quarterback. Nevermind the busts drafted (Losman), the endless embarrassments refered to by the brass as "answers" signed in free agency (Bledsoe, Fitz). It is certainly a rarity in today's NFL to be even be capable of bringing in an aging veteran QB to groom and educate a young QB, but if there is an opportunity to do so, the team with the longest active NFL playoff drought needs to find a way to do just that. Not only that, but if Manuel continues to prove he's a "glass joe" type of QB, it should not be ignored any longer that Thad Lewis is not going to be able to provide the lift Buffalo needs to beat the New Englands and Denvers of the world. I personally enjoyed his enthusiasm when called upon last season...but please, Bills brass, be honest with yourselves. As for Jeff Tuel, I have no idea where in the blue hell this guy came from, but he should have stayed there. I read comments occasionally on TSW and other blogs where some fans and writers enjoy Tuel's supposed "upside". I'm sorry, kids, i don't see one. I wish there was more of a way to elaborate on the subject, but the guy is terrible and won't even be in the league in two years. Now, back to "todays NFL" and aging QBs willing to be mentors? I understand that those guys are hard to find. Its hard to ask a guy who's been "THE guy" in one city to come into yours, and ride the pine and help groom someone else. That's not how pro athletes, especially NFL athletes, tick. And I don't know who that guy is even if he's out there on the market, but if he is, this should be at the top of the brain trusts list at OBD.
  7. I have zero confidence if Tuel starts on Sunday. And that's not me giving KC credit for anything, I would have zero confidence in him facing the Jaguars at this point. He's just god-awful!
  8. I've seen all the "34-17"-ish predictions on this board. I'm gearing up to watch as every "expert picker" from ESPN.com and NFL.com clean-sweep the board with New Orleans Saints logos. Eliminator pool participants will be taking the Saints in a high percentage of the leagues. I get it, on the surface, the Bills don't stand a chance in hell of beating the mighty New Orleans Saints on a neutral field, much less in their house. We're starting an unproven practice squad QB vs. one of the premiere defensive minds in the game today, who by the way, has had two weeks to prepare for an injury infested offense. But, this IS the NFL. Winners and losers on a week-to-week basis are as hard to predict as ever these days (with ths exception of any game involving the Jags). When the week began, I was just happy to go to work Monday morning knowing the Bills actually beat a decent NFL team ON THE ROAD. Not only that, a divisional opponent! The 2013 Bills have to be one of the most entertaining and gut-wrenching teams of recent memory. We know the Saints: Drew Brees, Sean Peyton and one phenomenal offense! Defensively, they're better this year, and that really doesn't say much being that last years Saints defense was statistically the worst EVER! The Bills are a bit of an enigma. We dont know just how good they can be being that the injury bug has had its way with us on both sides of the ball. EJ is gone for four more games, CJ can't seem to stay healthy enough to finish a single game, and while I love Fred Jackson's heart and determination, quite frankly it scares the hell outta me anytime he gets hit! Then, theres this defense. What I believe to be the cornerstone of this team for years to come. They could seriously be one of the best real soon once Gilmore is "de-clubbed" and Byrd starts playing for his love of the game and not his selfishness. So here we are. Wednesday. And I must say, I'm beginning to ask myself "Could it happen?" I hate to be optimistic about the Bills because history speaks for itself. But there's something different going on here now, and I love it! So what happens Sunday if the Bills miraculously do the impossible, the unthinkable? Are we...BACK?!
  9. At 3-4, I've never been more optimistic about the future of the Buffalo Bills since this 13 years of rebuilding began. And I can't help but wonder what the record would reflect if not for numerous injuries to significantly important and impact players. You have to admit, if nothing else, this version of the Buffalo Bills is entertaining. At times, a little too entertaining for this fans health and well-being. Yesterday's result in Miami very well could have went either way, as every other contest that involved the Bills this season. Buffalo could very well be 7-0 this year. They could also very well be 0-7. And it really depends on the type of fan you are. Glass half empty? Glass half full? I tend to think of myself as a realist when it comes to the Bills. And as Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells once stated; " You are what your record says you are". Truer words were never spoken. Especially when it comes this years Bills: 3-4. A record that reflects a team, rebuilding, and learning how to win. A team not quite good enough to win certain types of games against certain types of opponents. But a team that will one day stay healthy, hopefully keep its core together for a decade or so, and become a dominant entity once again. One thing is apparent from this fan's perspective: The once mighty, dominant and bullying New England Patriots are on the downswing. They simply are fortunate right now to play in a division with 3 teams rebuilding in one shape of form or another. You watch the Patriots, and if #12 is not under center, they may not win another game all year. And even HE himself, is made to look average at best with the makeshift WR corp he fields his offense with. I look at New England as a team that when HE retires, will be where the Bills have been for over a decade now. I watched Ryan Mallett at Arkansas, if he's Robert Krafts answer to the future, Bobs gonna be drinking more than usual in his "celebrity owners box" for years to come. That said, as a realistic Bills fan, when people start talking about this weeks matchup in New Orleans being a barometer for where our franchise is, i say you're completely nuts! We will, for the third straight week, be starting our 4th string, practice squad QB against a defensive coordinator in Rob Ryan, who by the way, has two weeks to prepare for said fourth string practice squad QB. Bills fans, including myself, are very schizophrenic after wins and losses. The fact is that the New Orleans Saints are one of, if not the best team in the NFL. Take away the "unicorn and show-pony" ending in Foxborough last Sunday, and the Saints are still unbeaten. More than that, they are almost unstoppable in the Mercedes Benz Superdome. I'm a realist. I expect the Bills to be humbled by Drew Brees and Co. on Sunday. But if that does happen, Bills fans shouldn't look for the nearest ledge to throw themselves from. The future is looking marvelous here for the first time in years. Its not a facade with a QB that was one teams scraps like in years past (Bledsoe). This is a team with true talent that is being built truly from scratch. A rookie coach with a rookie QB and all kinds of talent on both sides of the ball. There will come a day when the injury bug decides to bite a different city. When another squad is classified as "snakebitten"...and we, as a city and the most loyal of fanbases, will finally relish in a championship... GO BILLS
  10. I have Calvin Johnson for a WR. Would it be prudent to trade him for Wes Welker? Johnson's been hampered by injury, but when healthy is a straight up force! And Welkers...Welker. Suggestions?
  11. Don't you people know that you become a star and certainly make the playoffs once you leave Buffalo? Here's a list: Marshawn Lynch Donte Whitner Lee Evans Jason Peters Jim Leonhard (with NYJ AND Bal!) I used to think this was just coincidental fodder, but maybe there's something to this. Maybe dudes get a breath of fresh air once they're out of the NFLs version of a septic tank...
  12. Well folks, the season is officially on life support. Thad Lewis, a longtime 3rd string/practice squad quarterback, is your starter vs. a Cincinnati defense, whom, by the way, held the once mighty New England Patriot offense to zero touchdowns yesterday, and in the process, ended Tom Bradys 52 game streak with a TD pass. Say what you will about Cincinnati as an "elite" altogether franchise, but their defense led by Mike Zimmer is special! So, what gives the Bills a prayer this Sunday at The Ralph?! Well, the Bills defense should look much more stable as Stephon Gilmore is likely to return, rescuing us from having to stomach too many more Justin Rogers sightings. Jairus Byrd's days are numbered here, so its likely Leonhard and Aaron Williams at Safety. Even with EJ Manuel, the defense has been a major factor in the two wins we do have under our belt. OFFENSIVELY: I expect to see PLENTY of Fred, CJ and Tashard and very little read-option considering the fragile state of Buffalos quarterback situation. Maybe a play or two with newly-aquired Pat White, who I honestly thought was a cast member of the 80s NBC hit "The Golden Girls" before I was reminded otherwise. If you have Bills WRs and/or TEs in your fantasy league, it goes without saying, sit them! DEFENSIVELY: Stay healthy and do not let Justin Rogers feet hit the astroplay! Keep doing what they've been doing. Kiko and Mario after Dalton all day, and double team AJ Green all day. Front four needs to frustrate Andy Dalton early and often. PREDICTION: BENGALS-17 BILLS-10
  13. The football "gods" look after 31 NFL teams. The football "devil" looks after the other ONE.
  14. With all due respect sir, Jeff Tuel looked an awful lot like Billy Joe Hobert on Thursday night...as in, he looked like he hadn't read the playbook!
  15. I just gandered at the list of available free-agent QBs and the majority reads like a who's who of crap. But which signing would be most and least intriguing to you? Here's mine: "Best" choices: Josh Freeman-To me, Freeman serves as the most logical choice to give the Bills season at least a glimmer of hope. Freeman has his issues, but I'm sure we can all agree, the talent that would surround him here (when healthy, that is) is far and away superior than the talent he had in Tampa Bay. Timothy Richard Tebow- I know i'll get heat for this, and probably deservedly so, but he has a winning record and a playoff victory on his resume as an NFL starter. As far as accuracy goes, he's awful. He can't hit the broad side of Pam Oliver's face. But, selfishly, i cant help but wonder what a read-option offense would look like with Tebow/Spiller/Jackson. Just sayin... Brett Favre-He's 44, been out of the game for 2 years, but reportedly is in the best shape of his life. If there is a definition of "veteran", he is it. This won't happen, but it'd be damn fun to watch.. Worst choices: Trent Edwards-Do I really have to give one reason why this is my top "worst" choice?! I know us Bills fans are loyal and diehard til the bitter end, but if this guy is signed, you'll be lucky if you have one seat filled at Ralph Wilson Stadium the rest of the year, Russ Brandon! DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!! Jamarcus Russell-Everybody's favorite draft bust is reportedly in fantastic shape and has corrected his accuracy issues and his work ethic...but still, No... Vince Young-Young was cut by the Bills prior to last years opener. Has always had the mobility, but just didn't seem to grasp the overall offense here, or in Philly, or behind Rodgers in Green Bay. You not only need to have the physical attributes to play in the NFL, but you need to have the mental aspect for it as well and be able to understand the offensive schemes that you need to perform when called upon. VY...doesn't! Never has, never will. PASS!
  16. Jeff Tuel is the reason we lost. Plain and simple.
