Ravens are an odd experiment in team building. They draft positions like Center, safety, tight end and linebacker high up consistently while not drafting at need. They end up with a lot of talent and got fortunate they got Lamar at the end of round one. But they also lack talent at some critical positions too. I like the philosophy that it is better to draft a center or safety up high and end up with an elite player at tier two or three position than to draft a riskier player at a more premium position. But at some point you have to stack the deck at critical positions or else you end up being flawed.

Any given Sunday, if the Bills come out flat and the Packers come out sharpe things can get interesting. That being said I do think the Bills are favored for a reason but I take no win for granted.

The NFL would never allow collective community ownership of a team again. Green Bay’s existence is a unique grandfathered in exception.

Eagles make big move. Trade for Robert Quinn
billsfan89 replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don’t think the Bills are going to respond with a move just because the Eagles did. The Bills are good to great at every point on the roster except offensive guard and even there they are decent. The Bills are all in on their chase for a Super Bowl this year and although given their limited cap space the Bills will have a hard time making moves if there is a move that can improve the roster I don’t see why they wouldn’t attempt to make it. -

Quinn is a year older but it isn’t like he is coming off a massive injury. It’s a nice deal for the Eagles who didn’t give up much to add at worst a decent player to a very good defense -
They should attempt to have more practices in the off-season. I get that players have wear and tear on their bodies but the decline in quality of play needs to be addressed by the league in some capacity. Even if it is just the addition of some workouts and film study getting players together more in the off-season will only help.

Last season this team had an under achieving Star, Vernon Butler who stunk outright and Harrison Phillips who was solid and Ed Oliver who has flashed here and there but been at least a solid starter. This year they replace Star, Butler and H Phillips with D Jones, Settle and J Phillips. That’s a massive upgrade of overall talent at a critical defensive position group. Those additions along with Von and Shaq have turned a Dline that was above average to an elite unit arguably the best in the NFL.

Any Realistic Guard Available at Trade Deadline?
billsfan89 replied to Wizard's topic in The Stadium Wall
The real issue is that teams aren’t looking to trade away cheap good offensive linemen. Oline players play well into their early 30’s so if you have a 24 year old stud guard on the last year of a rookie deal that player will still be around for any possible rebuild even if a team gets set back 3 years that player will be only 27/28 when that team is ready to compete and that player will be playing at a high level for 4+ years. Now if you have an older guard on a big money deal a team will be willing to sell. -
Jets also lose Alijah Vera-Tucker - Out for the season

Injuries are the worst part of the NFL. I never like to see teams Star players get hurt. That’s a huge loss for the Jets who have been overachieving this season. -
NFL Week 7 - Around the NFL - Gameday thread (Bills have bye)
billsfan89 replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Carr has Adam’s one of top WR’s in the game and Jacobs a beast at running back along with Renfrow one of the better slot WR’s in the league and he still is what he is a good but not great QB. -

The Eagles are the only team out of the NFC that I think can compete with the Bills. 49ers simply don't have the QB talent and are really really getting hit hard with the injury bug. They are talented but with Jimmy G at QB it limits your offense. -

I love NFL football but this season has been filled with a lot of bad football. Some good non-Bills football too but a lot of mediocre to bad football being played right now. -

The Eagles are likely the best team out of the NFC. 49ers are probably number two but they are massively banged up. -

He has not been very impressive, he does flash athleticism but he doesn't play fluidly and it is leading to a Jets offense that has to run the ball in order to get going and with Hall possibly out the Jets are going to need to lean on Wilson more to generate offense. -

I think the lack of starters playing in the pre-season along with less off-season practices has led to a terrible start to the season quality wise. I also think defenses are catching up to offenses playing 2 high safeties again to limit big plays and forcing offenses to play longer drives where the more plays you have the more mistakes you can make. I do think that the NFL will have to negotiate with the union to allow a little more in terms of off-season practices and I think teams will play starters more in the pre-season. -
I think Daboll was a positive influence but I think Dorsey, Palmer and the entire offensive staff including Daboll developed Allen's tremendous raw talent. I also think McD had a positive impact on Daboll's ability to translate to a (so far) good coach. Seeing how things were run by McD and the impact he had on the culture of an organization has helped him a lot.
-
I am glad the Bills stood pat at offering a 2nd rounder (supposedly). The 49ers gave up a high volume of good picks for MCC and he might be with it as a talent but for a cap strapped Bills team that drafts really well it is key to have a bunch of draft picks to replace talent with cheaper younger players.

The Saffold Report - Week 6, Bills v. Chefs, 10/16/22
billsfan89 replied to Freddie's Dead's topic in The Stadium Wall
I thought Saffold from my eye test had a solid game against the Chiefs, hopefully getting more comfortable in the system and with his teammates leads to improved production. -
Two vastly different sports not a great comparison. For all the media drama Odell causes (which is not really his fault for the most part) his teammates outside of Baker Mayfield love him. This isn’t a TO situation where his teammates “put up” with him. So I think OBJ in the locker room won’t be an issue.

Ken Dorsey is really really good
billsfan89 replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
I preface this by saying I think option plays are not very effective. So this might be my bias but I think they over thought the call. It all worked out in the end but that’s the one call that in my mind sticks out as a bad one. -
Most underrated off-season acquisition could be Daquan Jones
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills certainly attempted to address every issue the defense had in the off-season. The team needed a “war daddy” pass rusher they went out and got Von Miller. The team needed to be more athletic at the corner position they drafted Elam round one and they needed to be more stout up the middle they brought in Jones, Phillips and Settle. No stone unturned. -
I would have to watch the game again but from my initial impression I would say that the reason for the struggles in pass protection was the creative blitzing by KC was creating a lot of pressure. I think the reason the pass pro got better was because the offense adjusted its protections. I thought Brown was mauling in the ground game and decent in pass protection. I think that while Quessenberry was decent overall he wasn't dominating in the ground game like Brown was.

Ken Dorsey is really really good
billsfan89 replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
Outside of that stupid option call early in the game it was a very well called game for the most part. Dorsey has stepped up well in the absence of Daboll.
