  1. Um, lets hope he didn't get drug tested that day.

Well most players in the NFL use HGH and you would have to be a moron to get caught using that stuff because I don't think the NFL uses blood tests. So even if Lynch is on something odds are like most NFL players he won't get caught.

  2. I like our defense but we still need a linebacker and its frustrating to see guys like Pisa and Cato June who would be upgrades over Elison by a decent margin come in for visits and than sign else where for reasonable money.

  3. Henderson looks like a long shot at this time, but I keep hoping the FO has one more big deal in the works before the season starts.

Well I just hope they get Pisa. Honestly I just hope that they don't have Keith Elison as our starting linebacker. There is not much else the Bills can really do. There is not a top flight LT available, there isn't a top flight DT available(at least at what the Bills want to give up) but there are some upgrades out there at linebacker.

I just hope they pick up a guy like Pisa who can round out the defense. Another position I hope they pick up some depth at is DE they could get a guy who could be a situational pass rusher and be a capable back up for Schobel. DE's are often cut by teams in June so its possible to get a guy like that before the season starts.

  4. Wilfork is what gives the Pats the hardest part of the 3-4 defense to get which is a guy who can control the line of scrimmage and eat up space to free up the two middle line backers. Look at any team that has had success with the 3-4 they all have a big guy eating up space. The Steelers have Casey Hampton, the chargers have Jamal Williams, the Dolphins and Jets turned around their defenses by adding Jason Ferguson and Kris Jenkins.

Wilfork is the most important part of their defense. If he goes the dynasty may be over. Its so hard to get these type of guys why do you think the Packers who are switching to a 3-4 spent the 9th pick overall on a nose tackle. Any 3-4 needs that kind of guy so I would love for a hold out and maybe a trade next year.

Although the Pats did use one of their four second round picks on a DT (Ron Brace i think) who is like 6 foot 3 and 330 pounds. So I think they are grooming Brace to take over for Wilfork but who knows how he will end up or if he will take a year or two to adjust and get stronger and bigger.

Wilfork is big to the Pats and I just hope he holds out, Jason Ferguson gets old, and Kris Jenkins gets hurt than the defenses in our division will be without their biggest players. Don't underestimate the long term effects of this Wilfork business. If Brace can't fill the role the Pats are in trouble. I would love to see him on the bills he would give them a nastyness as well as a guy who could stuff the run big time but it won't happen the Pats will trade him after they franchise him or they extend him

  5. I thought the Bills were interested in trading for him. Anyone heard anything about this recently? I think he would be even more of an impact player than T.O.

Was never going to happen Jacksonville was not going to trade this guy for anything less than a second. DT is a position that could use an upgrade but its not a drastic need. They want to get Pisa or another OLB and than look at other positions of need like LT. It was just a rumor and like most rumors never amounted to anything. Don't get me wrong I would love the guy for a fourth found pick but I doubt we could even get him for a third.

  6. Thats the most optimistic view of our team. There is so many things that could go right and wrong with our team. Your outlook is if everything goes right but there is also so many things that can go wrong. This year is such a crapshoot its boom or bust. There is also a possibility of another 7-9 season. So who knows I just hope the team makes the playoffs or the bottom falls out I don't want another 7-9 or even an 8-8 season because than they miss the playoffs and bring this coaching staff back

  7. If oher is such a stud I didnt notice it. I could be wrong.

Who you be more confident watching Trent Edwards blind side Oher a top flight college left tackle or Walker a guy who failed at left tackle while he was in Oakland.

    Oher

    Wood

    Hardgardner

    Butler

    Walker

All I am saying is that this line is better than the way our o-line looks right now.

  8. Inspired by the was Oher the better pick thread I was wondering if you had the same post draft frustration that I did. Now assuming the Bills could have gotten the 21st pick for Peters (which was rumored to be turned down by Buffalo for some reason) Than the Bills could have drafted Maybin and Oher while still having the 42nd pick and their third and two fourths.

They could still have had Wood by using the 42nd and the third to trade up to take him and seal up the o-line. Than with the fourth round pick still take Nelson and pick up the tight end they wanted. Than after all that they would have still had the fourth round pick.

I know that its unfair to criticize when you know the outcome but I was angry when people were reporting that the Bills turned down the 21st pick for the 28th pick. Also lets say that only the 28th was available did you feel that the Bills should have tried to try trade up for Oher while he was falling. If it would have cost them their 3rd and a lower round pick than why not. I was thinking that at the time of the draft.

I liked Oher but not at pick 11, if you could have had him at pick 21 or 22 than that would have been a perfect draft addressing our two biggest needs. While still being able to get other needs addressed as well. Don't get me wrong I liked our draft but I thought it could have been better.

  9. Lynch maybe, but Whitner isn't, he has only had one off the field incident and he is well respected in the lockeroom, he won't be on the bubble

Not saying that he will be on the bubble but that he will get a good talking to and will be told to be careful because if he gets into trouble one more time he will be suspended. Lynch will be on his last legs because he could get a long suspension and they don't want another off the field issue on the team.

  10. If Jones is available next year and we are desperate to fill the hole left by TO than maybe we take a chance on him. But unless the Bills find themselves in that situation I don't see them taking a chance on a guy like Jones. Next season the Bills are going to try and separate themselves from head cases and guys who have trouble with the law.

Next year K.O. Simpson will be gone. That full back who was accused of exposing himself will be gone. TO will be gone ( not because of the off the field issues though ). Also Lynch and Whitner will be on double secret probation as well. Trust me next offseason will not be as eventful off the field as this one.

  11. It depends what Pisa wants. Does he want to go to a bigger market with coaches who he knows but he is going to have to take less money and its not a certainty that he will be given the starting job. Or does he want more money and a starters spot on a team who plays in a smaller market with a coaching staff who you don't know as well. Also if he starts on Buffalo its more likely that he would get more snaps due Briggs getting the nod in Nickel situations.

The bigger money and a starting spot or better coaches and a bigger market. I would slant it slightly towards the Bears it just depends on how badly Chicago wants him and how much money the Bills are willing to put up. As well as how much confidence Chicago gives in him starting. Its close but if I had to put money on it I would say he goes to the Bears but its not a bet I would be confident in.

I want the Bills to get this guy because he would round out our line backers and be a significant upgrade over Elison. However if we don't get him its not the end of the world because its not like he would be the last piece. Also there are other line backers available so there are other options out there.

So I think there is a good chance he will be a Bill but I am not as confident as I once was.

  12. Well Football and Basketball are sports that require more raw talent than most other sports. In football you need to have size, speed, strength, and other naturally given abilities same thing goes for basketball. While in Hockey and Baseball you need a very specific skillset that takes a lifetime to develop at a major league level so a hockey player may not have the size or strength of an NBA player but he has hand eye coordination that is drastically better and other skills like skating that the NBA player isn't even close to having.

So a guy who is great at basketball like a Lebron James can use his raw ability to play Football. But he wouldn't be able to play baseball or hockey because it would take him years at a minor league level to develop the skills needed to even be a respectable player and he still might not even be a major league player let alone an all star.

It makes you in awe of what Bo Jackson did because he had enough raw talent to play football but he had the skill to play baseball. Bo was the best athlete of all time in my opinion he had raw talent and great skill its just too bad he had injury issues that ended his career early. Even Jordan the greatest basketball player ever wasn't much of a baseball player.

  13. Well when TO had McNabb in Philly he had a guy who was playing at a HOF level. Remember when McNabb had Todd Stinkston and Fred Ex ( as well as no tight end and Duce Staley running the ball ) to throw to he willed an offense to the NFC title game three years in a row. Than McNabb got TO and Westbrook to throw to and he got them to a Super Bowl that they lost by just three points ( to a team that was most likely cheating ).

Than the year after TO could have been beloved in the city of Philly but he decided to blow up the team because he went after more money in the wrong way. McNabb got injured the next few seasons untill this year when he got better wide recivers ( no one great but a bunch of #2 wide outs are better than a bunch of scrubs ) and Westbrook to run and catch he got the Eagles back to the title game but fell three points short.

So TO had a three to four year window to win a Super Bowl and he closed it after just one season. So the fact that he had worse QB's than Jerry Rice is partly TO's fault. Also Rice had good seasons on Oakland when he was older and had Rich Gannon to throw him the ball ( he even got them to a Super Bowl ) so Rice would have been one of the greatest wide receivers of all time in almost any situation. TO great but not in the conversation with Rice as the greatest.

  14. The only real competition out there for Pisa is the Bears. And to be honest the Bears don't have a drastic need for him nor the desire to put up money competitive to what the Bills are offering. I read the market as the Bills offering 2.8 to 3.4 million a year while the Bears may only be offering 2 to 2.5 million a year. If thats the case the Bills get him.

The market for Pisa just isn't there. Few teams play the system he is best suited for, and the amount of teams that have an opening on those systems further limits his market. The Bills have big interest in him and the Bears have a mild interest in him but thats about it. The Pats and Eagles did not amount to anything and there isn't anything else out there. Who else wants him at anywhere near the price he wants.

As for have you ever heard of this guy before he got released stuff I think a good fan of the NFL was aware that he was the good linebacker on St.Louis. He was always highlighted on any game as a good defensive player and in Madden ( which is where a lot of the more casual fans knowledge comes from ) he was highly rated. So yeah I knew of him before he got released.

  15. Here is another thing I don't get about Buffalo signing Owens. We don't have a world class coaching staff that could one use Vick as a gadget QB and wildcat QB effectively and two could handle the distraction Vick would add to the team which already has Terrel Owens as a distraction.

Another situation is that if we do get Vick how many games would it take TO to say that Vick should start? Vick doesn't fit here its just that the people who write these articles don't really know the team that well. They see a team who signed TO and hasn't made the playoffs in a while and a team whose coaching staff is on the hot seat.

If they knew the team a little better they would know that DJ couldn't handle Vick and that the coaching staff and the FO have a ton of faith in Trent Edwards ( once again you could argue if its misplaced buts it there ). There are other reasons that I won't list but the point is that there are so many reasons why you wouldn't see Vick as a fit in Buffalo.

  16. Looking back on the draft and knowing how it shook out ( Which is something that is really unfair to do ) I would have taken a pass rusher either Maybin or Orakpo at 11 ( Orakpo was my choice at the time but I see the logic of the Maybin pick ) Than knowing how much Oher was going to fall I would have used the 28th and our 3rd and possibly fifth to try and trade up for him.

Than try to see if Wood would have fallen to 42 or to a point were we could have used the extra fourth to trade up a few spots for him. Than obviously take Nelson in the fourth ( Man what a steal he was ).

With that draft we solidify our oline and get a pass rusher as well as our tightend. I know its easy to look back when you know where everyone would have went but at the time of the draft I was thinking why did they not get the 21st pick form Philly so they could have taken Oher without trading a pick. Than we have 42nd pick as well as our third and two fourths to play with.

But its not the end of the world we still got Maybin we picked up our guards and got a safety as well as a steal at tightend. So I am happy with our draft it was good ( at least on paper ) But that draft would have been perfect.

  17. I don't know that the Titans were penalized much more than the rest of the league. The real issue is that Haynesworth was about to be a free agent, and some of the other teams that might have pursued him by the book maybe didn't get that chance (assuming Hayneseworth actually did have discussions or an agreement with Washington before the opening of free agency.) Tennessee had plenty of chance to sign him, so I don't really think they lost out on anything.

I guess its more the principle of the whole thing. The Titans might have been able to negotiate a contract if Hayneseworth didn't have knowledge of a huge offer coming his way from the Redskins. Its more of a precedent for future cases. If you tamper with a guy you should be prepared to give that team draft choices.

I don't know maybe its more of a the punishment should fit the crime deal. If you snake a teams player unfairly than they get your picks.

  18. If the Redskins did tamper with Haynesworth than they should get draft picks taken away as well as fines and their cap lowered for a few seasons.

But if they do get draft picks taken than shouldn't the Titans receive them? It was the Titans who should get compensation for a player they lost due to the Redskins tactics. If I am the NFL I take away the Redskins second round choice if they don't make the playoffs but their first if they do make the playoffs and give that pick to the Titans. Than I would just take away their next third round draft choice. Which would take away either their first and third of their second and third.

You have to compensate the victim a little bit at least considering that they lost a free agent by shady means. I think the Titans wouldn't mind losing Haynesworth as much if they got an early second or late first back and didn't have to pay his contract on top of that.

If you make stiffer punishments for tampering teams will think twice about doing it. I know things like this usually get a fifth or fourth round pick taken away but teams that want a guy just usually see that as a small price to pay for a guy they wanted. If you take away two out of the first three picks than you make a team hurt

  19. OK guys, as we all know, Madden 09 can tell the future and in a recent franchise I created I made the bold move of trading Edwards for Favre and then drafted Stafford. Surprisingly enough, our beloved Trent became a Pro Bowler his first year at the Jets. Therefore, Trent will become a Pro Bowl caliber QB very soon. It's just that simple :w00t:

Well Madden does predict games ( against the spread ) with a 57% accuracy and thats probably as good as any expert. I also think that its accuracy jumps to around 60% if you don't go with the spread. Once again I forgot who did this unscientific study of Maddens accuracy but its sounds about right to me at least.

As for Trent this year he has to at least show three things. One the ability to stay healthy and play through minor injuries. Two the ability to make longer range throws. Three the ability to be able to beat good teams.

If the Bills go 8-8 and miss the playoffs but Trent throws for like 24 TD's less than 13 ints and still has his 65% completion percentage and plays in all or most of the games than I could see a new coaching staff keeping him. The only thing that is a concern is that he has an offensive line that is completely gutted and stating 2 rookies.

Trent has the weapons and the ground game but lets just see how it all comes together around him and the o-line

  20. Yes, I firmly believe they would have rather had Coles. $6.5 million for a guy nobody else wanted. Sorry to say, your front office is a joke. When TO got that offer I bet his response was, "$6.5 million??????? Are they serious??????? I guess I'll go anywhere for that. I don't know what I have to do to make all 32 teams not want me." $6.5 million for an aging, skills declining cancer. There is a zero % chance this works. I'll bet TO is inactive for the last few games of the season. No O Line and a sub-mediocre QB throwing to him? Yes, this is going to end well. LOL!!!

Well Coles was released by the Jets who have a huge need for a WR so how good was he. Now I know Coles is a good WR at the #2 slot but who would you rather have for one year only TO or Coles. Who cares about the money the Bills weren't capped strapped. TO is better than Coles for this one year and TO won't be a cancer because he needs the Bills as a way to tryout for the league next year.

Coles isn't exactly young either he will be 32 by the end of the season.

  21. I am pretty sure you could find many articles saying how mean and nasty Mike Williams looked during OTA's and looked how that worked out. Maybin won't light up the world in his rookie year anyway. I just want him to get 5 or more sacks and pressure the QB a good amount. Pass rushers take a year or two to develop so keep your expectations of Maybin realistic for this season.

Another good thing to keep in mind about Maybin is that I look to see if he could still be explosive and effective with the extra weight he added for the draft.

  22. Ok leaving out all the morality and legal issues out of it would Vick even be an effective player? Looking at it from a pure football perspective I just don't see Vick as a big impact right away at least. If you are a team like the 49ers who don't have a QB and can use Vick as a two year project that may be the fit Vick needs. I just think a guy who has been two years away from football and wasn't exactly a perfect player when he was playing at a high level.

I just think that form the Bills perspective I just don't think that shoehorning in Vick as a wildcat trick play QB would be worth it even if you leave out the legal issue ( which is a big issue ) But a team like San Francisco could use him and work with him during training camp get him very limited playing time during the first eight games and than let him get more snaps as the season goes on.

He needs a lot of time to get physically ready and than even more time to get mentally ready. Vick needs to go to a team that can spend time redeveloping him and a team needs to take a chance on Vick.

  23. You could not be more wrong. There are 392 Division 1 & Division 2 college football programs that offer full scholarships in the USA today. If they average 70 scholarships per school per year, that comes to 28,000 student athletes playing football on full rides in the USA every season. Of those 28,000 per year, less then 300 get drafted into the NFL. That is barely over 1% of the players. Even if you knock that figure down by 50% to include just juniors and seniors, that makes only 2% of the all juniors and seniors playing college ball on scholarship today even getting drafted by NFL teams. I have to believe that the vast majority of the other 98% of football playing student athletes not good enough for the NFL, realize this fact, and try to get their degrees while their education is being paid for.

Look at this another way. Let's say the top 125 college programs graduate only about 30% of their scholarship football players. That comes to about 6,125 players not graduating every year, using my example of 70 scholarships per team. However, let's assume the 267 smaller college programs graduate more like 70% of their scholarship players. That figure comes out to 13,083 players that do end up graduating.

You are not getting my point. If it was student athlete than how could 6125 (which averages out to 1500 and change a year) students not graduate. And out of those 6125 students how many of theme are in trouble academically but they still get to play every Saturday. Well if Academics were so important wouldn't they be suspended to get their grades up?

Don't romanticize college football. The kids are their for the game not the education. If academics was the goal it would be criminal for any school to have a 70% grad rate let alone have it be the average for Division 1 schools. And that means that if each school has 20 seniors playing ball than 6 to 7 don't graduate every year.

And I am pretty sure than every school does not have 6 to 7 guys who are NFL draft caliber. So its not just the good NFL ready players who are tanking it each and every year and its not just one or two bad apples once in a while. All I am saying is its just as much of a business as the NFL but the NFL at least admits what it is and does not try and hide behind so called armature scholastic status

And a ton of division 1 schools lower their academic standards for football players so its clearly not about the academics. Like I said athlete first student second.

  24. I used to be a huge NFL nut. Watched as many games as I could, could name most of the starters on every team, knew all the weaknesses and strengths....it was crazy. Over about a 7 or 8 year period, I slowly lost interest in almost all NFL and was completely taken over by NCAA. At this point, if it doesn't directly involve the Bills, I hardly take notice. Meanwhile, I watch every college game I can, no matter the team, conference, or subdivision. Yes, the BCS adds a sour note, but anyone who doesn't watch for that is missing out, and not really a college fan.

Those kids hit the field every game with everything on the line. They pour their hearts into the game, playing for the pride of the their schools, their states, hopes of a future in the NFL, or even just their popularity on campus (which I'm sure is a big enough prize for a 19 year old kid being treated like a god). Doesn't matter who's playing. Could be perennial top 10 team vs a long time bottom dweller, there's always the chance of an upset, and they always give it everything they have.

There may be rules that could be better, and a playoffs are must that will become a part of the game sooner or later. But for pure football, I don't think the NFL comes close.

I always hated that they play for the love of the game argument. The players in the NFL are playing for millions of dollars I think that is a much bigger motivator than pride or popularity. Why do people think NFL players are lazy their contracts are not guaranteed they have to play hard or next year they will be cut.

Its just strange to think a 19 year old playing to be the big man on campus works harder than a 27 year old running back looking to get a deal so that his family is secure (Fred Jackson). Putting food on the table is much more important than making your school which will just wave good bye and leave you with nothing else than a degree proud.

I know its hard to think that a millionaire 28 year old works just as hard as a 19 or 20 year old who has nothing and is striving to get those millions. But that 28 year old doesn't want his window for making millions to close. Also older players don't want to retire any time soon so they play hard to continue playing. I know there are players in the NFL who are lazy and living off of draft status and other things but those players are the minority by far. Also not every college player goes at it 100% every time.

  25. Well I still think he will be a Bill. The FO wants him and I think that our need for him is much greater than Chicago. He will realize that our offer is better and that he could start for us right away. He is testing the market and he is realizing that there isn't much of a market for him in that not many teams play the system he is suited for.

If its us or Chicago I think that if we have the better offer on the table he will sign with the Bills. I don't think Chicago has a big need for him and wants to break the bank for a player they could live without. My guess is that the Bills are offering 2.9 to 3.4 million a year while the Bears are offering about 2.5 million a year. If it shakes out to that than it looks good for us.
