  1. I didn't want Jauron fired after last season because I thought we were too close to what he'd been building, to just tear it down and start over, probably starting worse, and getting good over a three year period, as most rebuilding goes. I thought, if we're going to rebuild, then lets first see what Jauron can do with a full team as he wants it, and starting off healthy. This year we'll see what he can do. My guess is if he doesn't make the playoffs he's done. If he gets replaced, I'd like to see, as would we all, a very tough, no nonsense, proven coach. Like a Cowher. I'd love to see a few of the Good Ones over Jauron, unless he can get real close to winning the Super Bowl and show no reason to think he couldn't finish it off with one more year.

But, as for building blocks, we've got a good core of recievers, with different skills and sizes, a good group of running backs, a good, young interior line (we hope), as well as (hopefully) a good young QB. TE is up in the air, still. Our ST's are great. Our secondary is great. With Maybin, and Poz, a new coach would only have to bring in a couple good DE's, a DT, and a couple LB's, not to mention a LT. So, that's six players to really round it out, maybe three big names, three journeymen. With an offseason and a draft, a new coach should be able to put the pieces together for a solid team, a contender right off the bat. So, that should be enticing for whoever that might be. And, the majority of our club is young, and there's a lot of cap space to work with. I'd say a lot of positives for a coach who'd like to come in and win quickly, while having players he can keep around for 3-4 years.

Well if Jauron was to get fired you would have to replace him with a disciplinarian thats just the way any sport works if you have a players coach you follow him up with a hard ass. I would like Cower to be here but too much money for Ralph but if not Cower maybe Gruden or Marty Schotenheimer they are guys with a pedigree and while they would cost a pretty penny they wouldn't be as much as a guy like Cower.

Edit- As Far as Russ goes he has done a decent job, Last year He brought in Stroud and Mitchell to help out the front seven and Drafted McKelvin but Hardy was a bust (so far). As for this years moves he brought in TO and had the balls to trade JP. His draft this year was pretty good. However he did bring back Jauron. So the moves he made this year we won't know how good they will be until next year.

  2. Tim Graham did an article along with the rest of espn.com about the building blocks of the each division. Well who are the building blocks of this team. That means who are the guys that are going to be building around if this team is going to be a playoff Team in the future. Setting aside Trent due to the fact that he is the guy who will make or break this season.

    In no order

Poz- Guy who could anchor that spot and develop into one of the better run stopping MLB for years to come.

Whitner- A safety who is very good in coverage a new trend in the league

Maybin- A ton of potential can be a guy that you can pencil in for 10 sacks a year in a few years

McKelvin- Could be shut down corner in a year or two. As well as his return ability.

Byrd- A guy who can become a safety or corner who rakes in the INT's

    Wood

Butler- Three young guys that could be a part of a really good o-line

    Levitre

Evans- Still young and one of the more underrated wide outs.

Lynch- A good young running back duh.

On the defense three of the top guys are in the secondary but thats the way we have drafted over the years. On offense we have three young guys along the line and a good receiver and running back. I just hope down the road that they invest more in the front seven due to the fact that Schobel and Stroud are getting up there.

Edit- Other honorable mentions Kyle Williams, Shawn Nelson, and Kawika Mitchell.

  3. This is not accurate. Owen Daniels was a beast last year and was a go to guy in many of the games. In each of his first three seasons he has improved. Andre Johnson is arguably the best wideout in football, of course he's the first option. He'd be the first option on almost every team. Owen Daniels is going to be the best TE in the league someday.

Is Owen Daniels a good blocker? As far as best tight end in the league someday I don't know he is already a top receiving guy but unless he is at least a good blocker I don't see it happening. I think a guy who can be good blocking and a very good receiving threat is more valuable than a guy who is just a great receiver and a bad blocker.

  4. Marshall's trade value has to be not that high due to three reasons. One the draft has already happened so teams don't like to deal picks after the draft. Two his mental problems and possible future suspensions. Three he is entering the last year of a deal and you are going to have to give him big bucks.

So as good as he is and could be would you want to give up a haul in both money and draft picks for a guy with mental issues? I just don't think the Broncos will end up trading him due to the fact that the fans are upset with the new coach and the departure of Cutler as well as the weird draft they had. In the end he stays a Bronco and gets a contract extension.

  5. Well i think that they have a very good group this year. We lost Greer but we have a guy in McKelvin that can step in and provide more or at least approximate the production we got from Greer. As far as safety we have Whitner at strong safety and either Ko, Byrd, or Scott at free safety. I would like to see Byrd at safety due to the fact that he has the coverage ability of a corner (duh were he played in college) but is a hawk when the ball is in the air which is something a good safety needs.

So is a secondary of McGee, McKelvin, Whitner, and Byrd better than last years i would say that on paper they are about the same but with potential to be much better. As far as depth we have some, Scott and Simpson are quality backups at safety. Florance, Corner, Youboty are decent nickel backs and can fill in for a game or two but no real long term depth.

So the starters have potential to be better. and the depth is worse due to the fact that unlike last year there is no long term depth thanks to the loss of Greer. I say it could be better but if we get a serious injury to either starting corner than it will be worse.

Simply the starters can be a lot better but if an injury hits we could be worse. Also the big if is will Schobel and Maybin help the pass rush and put less pressure on the secondary.

  6. Rookies tend to be overated by Madden. They always have. I think Edwards' rating is pretty accurate. Look at his surroundings. There are 10-12 QBs solidly above him (the likes of manning, rivers, brees, etc), and a half dozen of so below him (the 49ers, broncos, browns starters). Edwards falls in the middle category with the likes of garrard, campbell, flacco, etc. All of those are guys that are still more potential than substance.

If anyone on the bills really got a low rating, it'd have to be McGee. He should be in the high 80s as opposed to low 80s.

I don't mind overrating rookies that much due to the fact that they can step in and play well more so in football than any other sport. But rookie QB's shouldn't be as high as they usually are. I do think McGee should be a few points higher but not quite in the high 80's level. Also think that they have the free agents rated a little too high.

  7. man...everyone is pretty irratated with these rankings....they are pretty much right. The bills are an average team

drizz....Edwards 76....has he done anything to state he should be higher? homer statement

Taking a look at all the other QB's in the league I think that Edwards is rated about right. But the fact that Mark Sanchez is a 78 without taking a snap is really stupid. Edwards has 21 starts with a high completion percentage under his belt. All Sanchez has is his draft status and his one year at college. Stafford is also a 79 which is way too high in my book as well.

If you had to put your life on the line in a football game and you had to choose between either the having Trent Edwards, Matt Stafford, or Mark Sanchez as your starting QB who would you choose? Not saying Edwards should be higher but that those guys should be a few points lower.

Also the Vikings and 49er's have the worst QB's in the league being rated at 69.

  8. Wants to be the highest paid TE in the league. Is there anyone out there who thinks he is worth the $7 million a year?

I personally feel that the TE position is way undervalued in the league. I am really surprised that Tony Gonzales or Gates hasn't gotten 7 million dollars at some point in their carers. Having a good tightend that can block and catch is just as valuable as a wide receiver or a running back. So taking the comparison market out of the equation I think he is worth around 7 million.

But if you take into account the market I would say no he shouldn't get that money when there are better players making less. But I think teams are going to be realizing the value of having a tightend who can be an effective blocker and a big factor in the receiving game is so valuable to any team and they will pay them accordingly. The Bills not having a guy like that for how long has made me see just how valuable a player like that is.

  9. I suppose there can be objection in some sort of an academic sense.

4 straight SB losses...case closed. No wins - no pets and strokes...

Well the 1998 Vikings are always on everyones top lists but they didn't even play in the superbowl. As much as it sucks that we didn't win one of those its still an accomplishment to get there four times in a row. No team has made the Superbowl three times in a row let alone four. I mean you can't slot that team at number ten or nine?

  10. Well I think in this years Madden they are putting more of a full rating system in this years game. If you have a guy in the 70's than he is an average starter. If you are in the early to mid 80's than you are an above average to good starter. If you are in the latter half of the 80's than you are around probowl level. If you are in the 90's than you are a probowl player and one of the best at your position.

So when putting that in prospective the Bills are about right where they should be. The only thing i think is odd is that Wood is a point less than Levitre not that big of a deal just a little odd. I like the way they are doing the rating system its long overdue and has been a problem in all football games for as long as I have been playing them.

I just hope that they don't add a gimmick like they do in almost every game. In 2007 it was the be your own blocker, In 2008 it was the weapon system, and in 2009 it was the Madden IQ thing (which was a good concept but they way it was executed made it into a gimmick). From what I have read I like what they are trying to do with this years Madden. They are removing things that people hate (weapons system optional and Madden IQ) and addressing concerns people have had for a while (more realistic pocket, better injury system, more fluid animations, and other things.)

So I am cautiously optimistic for this years game and will likely buy it if it gets good reviews.

  11. We have to be considering this and we know you guys would love him.

If we really feel that Trent deserves this season to sink or swim than we can't bring Vick in. If we bring in Vick as a wildcat/gadget QB than how long before TO asks for Vick to be the full time QB? I don't see the need for Vick unless we see him as the full time QB. Trent would be totally undermined if we brought Vick in.

Don't get me wrong I have no moral objections to bringing in Vick due to the fact that he spent time in jail for the horrible act he did. If Vick were on the Bills I would root for him. But because I just don't see the need/fit for Vick i don't want him on the team especially when you take into account Trent and the possible QB controversy it could cause won't be worth it to me at least.

  12. Well Fitz is a guy who can if Trent went down for Four games he could keep the team afloat and go 2-2. But if we have to rely on him for much more than I think we will go 7-9 or 6-10. We can win a few games with Fitz but he can't take us to aplayoff at best he is a guy who can be a .500 QB when a team is playing well. If Trent were to go down for the season during a pre-season game than i could see the Bills going after Vick as a total desperation move.

I don't know much about our third string QB but if Trent goes down for a long period of time early in the season i would rather put him in just to see what he has because Fitz is what he is and I would rather take a chance on the third string guy. Can anyone tell me what the Bills Third string guy is like and if he has any sort of potential?

  13. Even Rob Johnson hung about the league a few years after the Bills released him

Yeah and Losman does have some physical skills to work with and does have around 30 starts under his belt so its not like he has no experience either. The only thing that hurts Losman is that the current trend in the NFL is to have guys who aren't former starters as backups.

Teams like to build their own back ups by drafting or signing a guy who knows he isn't going to be the starter and than let him know the system from the sidelines and than step in and manage the game if the starter goes down rather than have a guy who use to be a starter and is going to try and do too much in order to either win the starting job or try out for other teams. I think Tim Graham or someone else wrote about this new trend.

So guys like Losman aren't going to last as long as they usually use to unless he has an adjustment in his attitude and decides to make a career being a back up rather than trying to be a starter somewhere. But yeah a guy like Todd Collins and a way past his prime Jeff George hung around and collect checks in the league for a while. Collins even got to lead a Redskins team to the playoffs.

  14. Someone will sign Losman due to the fact that everyone in the NFL thinks that they can fix someone. Losman has a cannon arm which is another thing NFL teams love because they all think that you can't teach an arm. Truth is Losman showed signs of dwindling accuracy and even worse decision making ability which are things NFL teams think they can fix.

Simply put Losman is a player who some team will feel the need to take a chance on. Besides a QB is bound to get injured sometime during training camp thats when a team takes a chance on the guy who is mobile with a cannon arm. ;)

  15. I don't really know about Oher other than what I have read. What I read about him did not excite me. I am not in favor of trading up in general & am glad the Bills drafted 2 highly rated Guards rather than an average Tackle.

Well I would have wanted the Bills to use the 42nd pick on a guard but don't get me wrong I like them getting two top picks on the o-line. In my opinion I thought the draft process was driving Oher's value down for no real reason. The biggest knock on the guy was that he had a learning disability but he got by in one of the tougher conferences in college despite that.

I thought Oher was a much better value at around pick 20 due to the fact that he has the physical skills to be a good LT in the NFL. Oher was dominant in College and other than his mental capacity (I think he is just about as smart as Peters) he had no reason to why it wouldn't translate into the NFL.

Once again I like the picks but would have loved the Bills to have added Oher at around pick 20 because a guy like him in next years draft would have likely required a top ten pick. Considering what we did with Peters we could have easily worked with Oher and turned him into the cornerstone of the line. No point in worrying about it now.

  16. from ESPN insiders:

    Paul Posluszny, LB, Buffalo Bills

Another middle linebacker, Posluszny would likely already be one of the AFC East's Ultimate Building Blocks had he not fractured his forearm three games into the 2007 season. In what effectively served as his rookie year in 2008, Posluszny showed signs of becoming an excellent middle linebacker. He made 14.7 percent of his team's plays on the ground, eighth among 4-3 middle linebackers; furthermore, he made tackles in important places. He had a stop rate of 54 percent, meaning that 63 of his 116 plays prevented the opposition from achieving a "successful" outcome on the play (defined here as gaining 40 percent of the needed yardage for a first down on first down, 60 percent on second down, or 100 percent on third or fourth down); that figure was sixth among 4-3 middle linebackers.

He has still some work to go as a pass defender and as a pass-rusher, but the Bills count on him primarily to be an elite run-stopper at linebacker. If he's not quite there yet, he very well may be after this season.

Poz is the least of the Bills worries on defense and will be here for at least five more years. Maybin, Whitner, Byrd, and Mckelvin (as well as possibly Kyle Williams) should join Poz at being the building blocks of the defense for the foreseeable future. Poz will take a step up this year and be one of the better middle linebackers in the league at stuffing the run. I just hope that he can develop at least average pass coverage skills.

I really hope that McCargo can at least become a useful player and at least live up to some of his potential. If McCargo can join those guys as a good young player than the Bills will have 5 to 7 starters that are locked in for the next four years. I just hope that if McGee leaves they don't spend yet another first on a Corner. Get me a front seven player either a DT or an OLB it would just be getting like the Detroit Lions when they couldn't stop loading up on WRs

Simply Put we will have a top ten MLB soon with Poz. He has got a full year under his belt and hopefully hone his skills even more with another full offseason under his belt.

  17. Well there isn't much to do at this point in time as far as big roster moves go. So I would just sit back and collect the big checks. But seriously if I was to magically swap bodies with the GM of the Bills I would look to get a DE and a LB. Derrick Brooks but I doubt he is going to choose the Bills over retirement sadly. If Brooks is a no go than I just wait till June cuts and wait and see if there isn't anyone out there who might be cut and worth while.

As far as DE would go I would use the Supplemental draft to grab the kid out of Kentucky for a six round pick seeing as we have two due to the Peters trade. I think that Jeremy Jarmon would have been a third or fourth round pick had he gone out next year so if I can grab him for a sixth and try and sneak him into a rotational role and have him as depth for Schobel than why not.

As for any long term moves I would just wait and see how this season turns out. As far as left tackle its Walker all the way this year with Bell or Chambers as the backup. If Walker can't handle the speed rushers I just put in Bell and let him get experience because if Walker doesn't work out odds are we don't have a good record by the time Walker is officially a bust at LT. Who knows maybe Bell is a guy who just needed a chance?

  18. Not to beat a dead horse too much, but it occurred to me in looking at our current proposed starters that this team could have been a ton better and a sure fire playoff contender if they had simply found a way to keep Peters, draft Maybin, trade our second and third to move up to take Eric Wood late in the first and then use our 4th to take Nelson. We wouldn't have Byrd or Levitre, but our O-line would have been a (hopefully) happy Peters, Wood, Hangartner and, most importantly, Butler and Walker playing their natural positions. Two new guys on the line, but both improvements over last year, and three other better linemen at their normal spots. We'd also have addressed our other two major needs, DE and TE. Tell me that that team wouldn't have playoff potential written all over it. My fear this year is that with 5 guys playing new positions, Trent is going to spend more time on his back than....well, this is a family board, so I won't go there.

When the Bills traded Peters, I originally was pretty happy about it, in that I figured they must have "cash to cap" budgeted about $8-10m for him that would then be freed up to go get a LT and/or OLB. Personally, I expected them to at least sign one of Pisa or Levi, if not both. They've done neither, which makes me wonder how serious they were with their numbers for Peters and getting a real deal done.

Frustrating, but that seems to come with the territory of being a Bills fan these days......

Well I think a better way to have gone with the draft would have been to trade Peters and that trade the third round pick and pick number 28 to trade up for Oher. Than use the fourth and pick 42 to try and pick up Wood and sit tight and take Nelson with the fourth. So our o-line would be Oher-Wood-Hangartner-Butler-Walker which to me at least is better than what we have now. And we still get Maybin and Nelson to address other needs.

I know its being a Monday morning QB knowing how the draft shook out but while Oher was still available down around pick 20 I was shouting at my TV (Ok not really but I did want to) for the Bills to trade up and get him. Who knows maybe they tried but those teams wanted too much. Either way I am happy the Bills put two day one picks into the o-line and still managed to pick up other pieces.

I know there is a lot wrong with Oher but I think that if this staff could have made Peters into something than they could have shaped Oher into a great player. Peters was a tightend who became a very good LT Oher was a great college LT who just needed help with mastering play books and fine tuning other parts of his game. Oher to me would have been a great fit at around pick number 20 due to the value.

  19. Kobe wins. He is a much better pure shooter, and defensively has better positioning than Lebron. I dont know who is better. I tend to be on Kobe's side because he's a winner, but I get angry when people just claim out-right that Lebron is the greatest player in the NBA. IMO he is the greatest person at grabbing a basketball, taking 4 steps and leaping towards an object suspended ten feet in the air, but that surely doesn't make you a tremendous athlete, just someone born with the correct frame.

The only thing Kobe does better than Lebron is shoot. Lebron overall defensively is better than Kobe. Rebounding, passing, defense and efficiency Lebron is better. As for Kobe being a winner he did need Shaq and a rigged game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference finals to win three rings. Also how far did Kobe get when had Lamar Odom and no one else? Answer he got bounced in the second round.

Everyone needs help and Kobe only made his recent runs to the finals when Derrick Fisher and Pau Gasol were added to the roster as well as the emergence of Andrew Bynum. So Its not like Kobe willed his team to the finals these last two seasons.

  20. Doesn't surprise me at all BECAUSE EVERYONE LOOKS GOOD IN OTA's. What should a team say oh man we really shouldn't have drafted him because even without pads he sucks.

I was surprised that Brown fell that far because i thought that he would go to Denver with their second pick in round One but I thought the Bills might take Brown at 42 because of the value and the need to replace Schobel in case he gets injured and for the long term.

Looking Back I don't hate the pick of Byrd but if I ran the Bills and had to choose between the two at pick 42 I would have taken Brown because of the value and the fact that I think Brown and Maybin could have developed into a nasty tandem down the road. But if Byrd becomes a probowl free safety and Brown is average than the Byrd pick looks good.

  21. Apparantly you haven't watched that much basketball either. The best player is currently about to win his 4th title. While lebron is easily the best athlete in the NBA, Kobe is still the best player. In a couple years, lebron may be the best, but he isn't yet. Lebron physically, I'd the guard version of shaquille oneal. His combination of speed and power is scary, but he's still lacking in the mentality, footwork, man defense and jumpshot departments. His jumper is decent. His help defense is great, but for someone to have natural abilities, he should be much better of a one on one defender....like kobe.

I am not a big basketball fan but I think Lebron is a much better player than Kobe. If you take a look at efficiency rating, defense, and surrounding cast Lebron is much better than Kobe. Kobe has Pau Gasol who is better than anyone on Cleveland except Lebron, as well as Andrew Bynum, Lemar Odom and Derrick Fisher who are better than anyone on Cleveland except Lebron and Mo Williams. Look at what Kobe did before Pau got there he couldn't carry the team by himself and got shutdown by the better defensive teams.

Lebron is a better passer, defender, and a more efficient player than Kobe. You can say 4th ring all you want but if you put Kobe on the Cavs and Lebron on the Lackers Lebron is about to win a title and Kobe is staying home. Kobe's first three rings were with Shaq and Shaq could have had any second tier superstar (Tracy McGrady or Scottie Pipin like guys) and taken them to at least two titles.

  22. Well Bo Jackson Represented Both Baseball and Football and the Pro Stars Cartoon so I am going to go with Bo. Bo played one of the most skilled sports in baseball and had the raw Physical skills needed to be a running back in the NFL. Lebron is a freak but he doesn't have the special talent required to play baseball.

Another guy worth mentioning is Jackie Robinson not only a great baseball player but he was a track superstar, a basketball superstar, football, and basically did everything when he was in college at an all American level.

  23. Yes - probably worth a shot. The highest supp pick I recall in recent years was CIN taking a LB named Ahmad Brooks at a #3 price in 2006.

He showed all that "potential" when he got on the field. Fast, hit hard and so on. CIN thought he was the real deal, but he suffered an early season '07 injury and a recurrence of attitude (which he came in with, hence supplemental draft in his case), so they tossed him into the trash heap.

Too bad. When he played in limited spots in '06, you would watch him and say to yourself that this kid might be something really special.

Old story, I guess...young fellow, pocket suddenly filled with serious jingle, add in adoration of athletes today...

Yeah for every Cris Carter and Jared Gather there is a bust like Ahmad Brooks.Ozzie Newsome (GM of the Ravens and the guy who took Gather) says right player right price and I think that that DE from Kentucky would be just that for the Bills.

Yeah but any young guy with money and fame is likely to be exposed to all the vices that come with those things

  24. Per text message.

No surprises, but the Bell was Joel Bell, not Demetrius. I always thought that Costanzo was a good ST'er, but I guess they have better guys to fill his role.

    OL Joel Bell

    LB Blake Costanzo

    DT John Faletoese

    DB Kyle Ward

    DE Gerald Washington

No real loss I thought Costanzo was a good special team guy but if there is one thing that I trust the Bills coaching staff in its special teams. Bobby April is a great coach and I trust that he knows the real value of his players and who is worth having on. Also how long before someone says they only cut one DB while cutting 3 players on the front seven.
