Good game overall, it took a while to get started, but it was worth it. If they really wanted to play against the ncaa, they need a later game. I'd still be watching if there was another.
I think that the NHL doesn't want to split the audience between 2 games BUT to me more hockey is never a bad thing.

Yet if he didn't say what was on his mind people would call him a phony. Honestly Leach is a successful head coach and will have no issues finding a job at a high caliber school OR if he wants to go NFL I think he has a good chance of getting a Offensive Coordinator Job and a very small chance at getting a Head Coaching Job.
Yeah Leach's comments made him look very small time but the guy just doesn't seem to care. I honestly think that Leach's system might be able to work in the NFL and that a team or College is desperate enough to take a chance on what he brings.

Without a Playoff the all College Bowl games except for the National Championship are essentially glorified exhibition games. Now with the NHL Winter Classic on New Years Day I have no reason to care about any other sporting event on New Years Day (Unless NFL Football is on). This years game was a 2-1 Overtime thriller at Fenway Park and I have to say that I now associate New Years Day with hockey.
I know College Football is the tradition BUT they don't play that many bowl games on New Years Day anymore and they don't play the National title game on Jan 1st either. So does anyone else feel that Hockey is now the New Years day sporting event? And did anyone else watch the game Today?

I think the only real issue I have with the Nix hire is that they didn't try to get someone from another organization or at least outside of this organization. To me Nix is the best guy that the Bills had already in their organization BUT was he the best guy we could have gotten? I don't know if we could have gotten a better guy because we didn't try to get a better guy.
I like but do not love the Nix hire. He is the best guy already in the organization. BUT I think that the organization should have done some more due diligence in interviewing other consolidates even if they had to wait to Monday to do so. I don't think the Bills organization is going to use the extra 5-8 days they got by hiring Nix yesterday anyway.

If Nix thinks the QB is on the roster now it can only be Brohm. Edwards is off the team next season (And I was a fan of his going into the season) he is just too injury prone and didn't have the ability to work the 15-25 yard range even when given time. Fitz is a nice backup if you need him for a 1-4 game stretch he can hold your team afloat BUT if you put him in for a longer stretch then that then you expose him and he shows you why he is a backup.
Brohm is really the only guy who you can conceive as having the potential to develop into the starting QB. Brohm is still unproven and was a 2nd round draft choice (Who didn't get a chance to play on his previous team) who had a ton of potential coming out of a cold weather college. Now does he need polish and a better situation? Yes but I think that out of the 3 guys on the roster Brohm is the one with the most to offer.
So while I would keep Fitz as a backup (Its not easy to find a quality backup QB), keep Brohm as the 3rd stringer. and bring in a vet like Chad Pennington to hold down the fort for one season while you draft a top flight LT to get the O-line in order. I think that The Bills need to spend their 1st pick on the O-line and the second helping out the front 7. Drafting a QB in rounds 1-3 might not be the best idea because if you draft one in rounds 2 or 3 you might be just drafting a QB just to draft a QB. And if you draft one in round 1 you might be leaving gaping holes in the O-line.

Over on the main board I keep seeing comments about "end of the decade".
There was no year zero.
The decade ends twelve months from yesterday.
Decade is more metaphorical then literal. I don't think 1990 is part of the 1980's or 1980 is part of the 1970's. Now if you want to say the first 2 to 3 years of a decade are just a hangover from the previous one that would be true. But to say that we aren't in a new decade is taking the complete wrong definition of a decade. A decade is a 10 year measurement not the measurement of every 10 years (IF that makes any sense).

Anyone going to the game Sunday planning to take any signs to show Buffalo Bill Cowher some love? The game is on CBS, so it'd be nice to get some camera shots of signage back on the halftime/postgame in the studio for Bill to see. Lets show Cowher some love a la TKO in 2k2!
I don't live anywhere near the Buffalo area BUT if I was going to the game I would totally bring a sign to show Cowher some love. It might not make much of a difference to Cowher but for some people (Especially a NFL head coach type who are very detail oriented) knowing you are truly and desperately wanted by the fans might just be the kind of thing Cowher might take a liking to.
Its a great idea Bills fans and if anything it will bring attention to the Bills coaching search and be a little entertaining.

Great QB doesn't always mean he will be a great QB coach. Kelly in addition to saying repeatedly he has no interest in coaching he just might not be the coaching type. I think that the qualities that make you a great player are ones that can make you a bad coach.
Great players usually (Its a generalization I don't know if Kelly is like this but a lot of great players are) have big egos, low patience, and a low tolerance for failure. Yet as a coach you need to put your ego aside a bit, have tons of patience, and not get frustrated easily by failure. Thats usually why great players rarely get involved in coaching. So I just don't see Kelly being a good QB coach even if he actually was interested in doing it.

Guys on the offensive side of the ball who will definitely be back- Wood, Levitre, Lynch, Jackson, Evans, and Nelson.
Guys on the offensive side of the ball who will probably be back- Hardy, Johnson, Hangartner, Fitz, Butler, Brohm, and Meridith.
Guys on the offense who could go either way- Reed, Schoulman, Fine, Bell, InCognito, and McKinney.
Guys on the offense most likely gone- TO, Edwards, Parrish, Chambers, Scott and Simmons.
Now the defensive side of the Ball is one where it gets weird because a new coach might want to install a 3-4 which means even guys who were doing a good job on the front 7 might get traded away.
Guys on the defense who will definitely be back- Byrd, McGee, McKelvin, and Maybin.
Guys who will most likely be back- Poz, Kyle Wiliams, and Whitner.
Guys who could go either way (A lot of these guys future depends on what system they will be running)- Schobel, Mitchel, George Wilson, Scott, Corner, Lankester, Spencer Johnson, Draft and Stroud
Guys who are most likely gone- Ellison, McCargo, Kelsay, Denney, and Buggs.
I think that if this team gets blown up then there are very few guys who are safe.

If you paid Cowher as much money as he wanted, gave him as much control as he wanted, and gave him any player he wanted, he still wouldn't come to Buffalo. His wife basically forced him to leave Pittsburgh to go back to her home and a warmer climate; she's not going to let him go to Buffalo, quite arguably the worst city in the NFL.
If that was the only reason Cowher wouldn't come to Buffalo then Cowher is seriously putting the kitty on the pedestal. If I am Bill Cowher and I wanted to come to Buffalo then I wouldn't let my wife not wanting to live in a colder climate be the reason I wouldn't go. Its one thing if my wife wanted to have me home more or my wife wanted me to spend more time with my children BUT she doesn't like the cold well that is just not going to fly.
If I wanted to coach somewhere and the only issue my family had was that it got cold there I would tell them tough you know what suck it up for a few months and in the offseason we can live in a warmer climate.

I would take Leach ONLY if the bigger names out on the market say no. If Bill Cowher wants to come here without a doubt hire him and pass on Leach. BUT if it comes down to second tier retreads like Jim Haslet and Brian Billick or Coordinator types like Russ Grimm and Ron Rivera then Leach would be the man.
Leach is innovative and knows how to win in a less then stellar situation (Which Buffalo at this point in time is). Leach is a guy who knows how to get his team to rally around him and he is a passionate guy who plays with fire. Now Leach doesn't come without concerns, 1- Can Leach's offensive system work in the NFL, 2- How can he deal with NFL type personalties, 3- Can Leach's system work in cold weather, 4- Can Leach create a defensive scheme that will work in the NFL.
To me Leach is a guy who can catch lighting in a bottle for the Bills. He is high risk high reward hire he could be a guy who innovates the NFL OR a Steve Spurrier kind of guy who just serves as an example to why a lot of gimmicky college offenses don't work in the NFL. Either way if the Bills can't land Bill Cower or Shanny then the Bills need to take a risk on a guy like Leach.
So go for the big names and then if you can't land a big fish go for the big risk in Mike Leach. As far as this whole controversy goes to me it shouldn't really concern his new employer, I think that you can't judge him until all the facts come out. No one really knows what Leach had the kid do and if I were an NFL team I wouldn't let the whole controversy influence me either way.
-
The more I look at Mike Leach the more I begin to like the guy. Would he fit the NFL let alone the Buffalo Bills? I don't know it seems like his system is a great fit for college but that it might not translate that well to the pro game. HOWEVER if the Bills were to hire him I wouldn't hate the move its bold move that just might work out. Now I would only like the move if the top guys like Cower said no to the Bills and it was between Mike Leach and a Coordinator type.
If the Bills can't get a hold of a "Big" name then Leach is just the hire that might catch lighting in a bottle for the Bills. As for this whole suspension business I don't know what to make of it on the surface it seems like this kid is just wining like a B word to get back at his head coach who made an example of him. HOWEVER I don't know all the details so its all still up in the air until it all comes out.

Hispanic boy bands from the 80s cure your hangover?
My dad took my older cousins to a menudo concert in the 80's and he said it was the most unintentionally hilarious thing he has ever seen.

I think Sal is a little better than just "some guy on the internet." He beat ESPN on Evans getting extended an T.O. signing. He has legit sources.
PTR
To me he isn't a journalist connected to a news source so in the end he is just a guy on the internet. Now granted he is a guy who has been right on things in the past including being ahead on the curve on the TO signing and the Evans extension so I will give him a lot more respect then a guy like Skooby but in the end I will be taking what he says with a grain of salt but not disregarding it completely either.
-
I never thought Cowher would come here ever. So hearing that the Bills contacted him and that he was more then respective (Once again according to a internet source granted one that has been right on a few things before but still its just some dude on the internet) is a good sign.
I also think that the Bills ownership situation being perceived as stable is another good sign for the franchise and further bolsters the idea of a big name coming here (One of the biggest knock against a big name was that they didn't know wither the team would stay in Buffalo or not).
Now as far as Cowher being a good fit as a head coach. I would like it but not love the idea of him being the head coach. For one he knows how to build a cold weather team that pounds the rock well. He is also a guy who knows how to build a tough D he loves the 3-4 (I don't but I think he knows how to build a D) which is the current flavor of the NFL.
So cold weather guy who has won in the past and the only reason he isn't employed is because he choose to leave (Still relatively young at 52 years old) BUT the guy does have some flaws he did struggle to win in the playoffs against the Pats* and did struggle to find success in the post season with top talent year in and year out. Also I know a lot of Steelers fans who thought Cowher was very overrated and should have won a lot more while he was there.
So I would take Cower plus a good GM he could work with in a heart beat BUT my excitement would be tempered a bit.

He broke a bone in his leg. No complications were reported. A joint injury is more serious than a broken bone, he should be fine.
It was a very violent break. There are two things that have me concerned 1- Can Wood come back and play NFL football at the same level and 2- If Wood can rehab and come back will he be able to come back by the beginning of next season?
With a break like that its going to be hard to come back in 8 or so months and be able to play NFL football. In the end I think Wood will attempt to come back BUT will he be the same guy and will he be ready to go come September?

If we win, what is the very latest we can pick?
10th only Oakland and Chicago's pick given to Denver can surpass us. If we loose we will get the 9th-6th pick depending on what Oakland, Seattle, and Cleveland do. The best we can get is 6th the worst 10th.
-
Bills currently drafting at #8 spot...
Well hopefully the Bills tank the last game and Cleveland wins and either Seattle wins or our opponent win loss dips below theirs and we move up to pick 6 or at least pick 7.

I think Butler's injury rep is overblown. This was the first time he was lost for the season, and that was because his knees were rolled up on from behind. Last year, he missed three games (BTW, we lost all three) and in 2007, he started all 16.
Butler while not missing a ton of games (Played all of 2007 and only missed 3 in 2008) always seems to be hurt even though he plays through it. I think that Butler always seems to be banged up even though as you pointed out he plays through it.

Russ Grimm (Arizona), Ron Rivera (Chargers), Jon Fox (If he leaves Carolina), Mike Zimmer (Cincy), Jason Garrett (Cowboys), and Kyle Shanahan (Houston) these are the guys that should be on the top of the list for Buffalo as far as a head coaching candidates.
No more retreads like Mike Martz and Jim Haslet we need to try and grab an up and coming young guy in order to try and catch lightning in a bottle and forge our own identity.

I don't get hungover ever. That being said there are a few things you can do to prevent getting hungover. 1- Eat before you drink, 2- take two aspirins before you start drinking, and 3- drink a few soft drinks as you are drinking to stay a little hydrated.
Those are the only things I can think of but fortunately for me no matter what I do (I mix liquor and beer all the time) I never really seem to get hungover. The only thing that happens the night after I drink is sometimes I have to take a big dump but other then that I never get the typical hangover symptoms at all. I just guess my Polish genes give me special drinking powers or something

OK Its no secret that this O-line has issues BUT if the Bills can get back Eric Wood and Brad Butler from injury does that solve some of the issues that this team has as far as the line goes? I know a lot of people were sold on Wood being a long term answer up until the injury but what about Brad Butler he looked good in the first few games until he got hurt.
Now the biggest concern with Butler is his health he always seems to get hurt for a few games a year. Are people sold on the idea of Butler coming back and being the starting RT from the get go? I wouldn't mind having Butler come back as the starter at RT because we have a guy like Jermon Meridith who can come in if Butler gets hurt.
Now if Wood and Butler come back are we just a LT short of having at least a decent offensive line? I think if we get a high enough pick to get a top tier LT then our O-line is pretty set especially considering if we bring back Cog and McKinney we would have solid backups at both guards and Bell and Meridith as good backups at both tackle spots.
Am I just dreaming that the Bills assuming Butler and Wood can come back the O-line would only be 1 piece a LT away from having a decent O-line. I mean Levitre and the Hang man will have both had a full 16 games of experience plus Wood getting 10 more games of experience as well as getting a top rookie LT and Butler back at RT is enough to improve the O-line.

Here is a little trivia question since 2001 who are the only 2 QB's to win the AFC East? The answer is Tom Brady and Chad Pennington. And Pennington did it with 2 different teams to boot. Does Pennington have a huge injury issue yes. BUT that is the reason he is going to be available and if anyone knows how to comeback from an injury its Chad Pennington.
Pennington is a professional QB who has played in this division all of his career. Vick is a guy who hasn't started in the NFL in 4 years. 3 years dealing with prison and legal issues and another playing very little in Philly. So you want a guy who even at his best had accuracy issues (Something that has been proven you can't fix) and is now 4 years removed from starting in the NFL? Over a guy who when healthy is a top 16 QB in the NFL and has won this division twice?
Pennington also seems like he can be a great mentor to a guy like Brian Brohm. Sign Pennington as a 1 year stop gap and draft a top flight LT to help get the O-Line in order. Pennington as a 1 year guy is a perfect for this situation. If we draft a LT round 1 and get back Wood and Butler from injury to join Hangartner and Levitre then the offensive line isn't looking too bad. And like Miami we would have 2 very good running backs in Lynch and Jackson.
Now if we can add a new hard nose coach and some veteran defenders we might just have a chance to do a very interesting turnaround.

Next season the Bills won't be effected by the lack of revenue sharing they are still going to get a 100 plus million dollars from the TV contract, plus the Toronto money, plus the 7 home games, and other forms of revenue they generate so they will be able to have a payroll next season on par or above what they had this season.
Now what is really going to determine the Bills fate is not the 2010 season but the 2011 CBA negotiations. Will there be some sort of cap? Will there be some form of revenue sharing? Will there be a lockout? All of these things will determine the fate of the NFL and honestly Ralph was right to veto the 2006 CBA renewal.
The owners now think it gave the players too much and that they need to get more and bring down costs. BUT then you have a split between the owners some like that D-bag Jerry Jones who want the league to be more like a free market like baseball and other like Ralph who want there to be more of a collective feeling that if the league as a whole grows then everyone wins.
I think that the players want to see the cap go away and guarantees and salaries rise. So to me don't look to the 2010 season as an indicator for the Bills but rather look to the 2011 CBA as an indicator to what is going to happen to our Bills.

I think that the Bills aren't going to take another DE with their 1st round pick. The Bills are going to take a LT or a QB with their 1st round pick. I think that the Pick is going to be a LT due to the fact that a top 8 pick is going to need to fill a big franchise changing need and the Bills have a huge needs along the O-line and the biggest need at LT.
How the Bills in this mock don't draft a O-lineman in either round 1 or 2 is beyond me and shows how bad this mock draft is. If there is a top LT available for Buffalo to take then I don't see how they don't take him.
