  1. Derrick Brooks would be the perfect OLB to bring in.He still has 2 great years in him.

He is a Prowl Bowler in the cover 2 system, year aftrer year.Who better to show our backers how to make plays in that system. He is a good leader and a smart linebacker.Always in the right place at the right time. That is the one piece to the defensive puzzle the Bills are missing.John Henderson would be the last piece the Bills would need to have a top 5 defense.

If he had anything left he would be with a team right now. It seems like he is done and will just get a camp invite or a veteran minimum at best

  2. Well to be fair that article that Tim Graham either wrote or posted ( I am pretty sure he wrote it but I am not a 100% sure ) kind of tipped off the league to at least prepare for the possibility for a no huddle offense. I also think that they want to use the no huddle as a real offensive set rather than a gimmick. I am pretty sure they want to use it in pratice, scrimmages, as well as pre season games and be fully prepared to implement it.

So eventually the league and the pats would have known.

  3. well seeing as how there are no real affordable upgrades available at the DT spot the answer is going to have to come from what we have. Stroud is a stud but Williams is more of a really good rotational player. Spencer Johnson or McCargo has to be the answer and Johnson seems like a better fit as a role player.

McCargo has to show up big this year and its an encouraging sign that he is at least giving it his all during this offseason. The one thing that scares me is if he has potential why did the Bills try and ship him off to the Colts for not much in return? I hope McCargo develops so when Stroud hits the wall in the next two to three years we aren't left with nothing at the DT position. But I am not counting on it at all.

  4. Im not here to get into an arguement over Aikman vs Farve. Im just proving my point that Aikman didnt have better weapons. Irvin was his best WR and only had 65td's in his career. At the same time Driver had 85 and Freeman had 61. You made it clear that you thought Aikman had better weapons and I proved that he didnt. Other than Michael Irvin, his best WR through out those years that you claim were so amazing he had Alvin Harper who failed to up up more than 1000yrds. If you combined all of the WRs on Green Bay you would see that Farve had multiple 1000yrd double digit td guys almost year after year. And Farve had Sharpe for 3 years.

    92' 108rec, 1461yrds, 13td's

    93' 112rec, 1274yrds, 11td's

    94' 94rec, 1119yrds, 18td's

All im saying is that maybe we should not stroke Brett's epeen so much. The guy only won 1 SB. He doesnt deserve to be labelled as the best of all time just because he played more than anyone esle. The guy had 18 chances to win the big one and only did it once. Aikman, Montana, Bradshaw, Brady, Elway all have more SB wins and have done it in less years. Aikman is one of very few that have 3 SB rings as a starting QB. It should count for something.

If you could put Irvin and Novacek on the Packers during thier 1994-1998 run when favre was at his best they put up sick numbers and if you put Brooks Freeman Schroder and Chumra on the Cowboys they are just average and they have shown that by how they did nothing without Favre during their carers. As for Harper if he was on those Green Bay teams than I think he puts up good numbers as well maybe a few years like Freeman and Brooks had.

As for Sharpe the first two years he was with Favre was still learning the position so yeah he had him but only one year at his peak. As for Driver the only reason I discount him as talent Favre had was because Driver came after the 1990's run so he is more of a product of Favre hanging around and Green Bay restocking the talent around him because he hung around for so long. Just saying that adding in Driver is a comparison from a different era is all.

Aikman had better talent year in and year out. I never said that Favre is the best of all time just that he is in the lower top ten all time and Aikman is somewhere in the top 20 all time. Aikman's rings do count they put him somewhere in the top 20 thats pretty good in my book to be regarded as one of the top twenty QB's all time.

  5. Green Bay

Freeman had 3 seasons of over 1000yrds. And another 3 over 800yrds.

    96' 56rec, 933yrds, 9td's

    97' 81rec, 1243yrds, 12td's

    98' 84rec, 1424yrds, 14td's

    99' 74rec, 1074yrds, 6td'd

    00' 62rec, 912yrds, 9td's

    01' 52rec, 818yrds, 6td's

    career-477rec, 7251yrds, 61td's

    Driver

    02' 70rec, 1064yrds, 9td's

    04' 84rec, 1208yrds, 9td's

    05' 86rec, 1221yrds, 5td's

    06' 92rec, 1295yrds, 8td's

    07' 82rec, 1048yrds, 2td's

    career- 577rec, 7989yrds, 85td's

    Sharpe

    92' 108rec, 1461yrds, 13td's

    93' 112rec, 1274yrds, 11td's

    94' 94rec, 1119yrds, 18td's

I wont add in career stats with Sharpe because he played with Magic for a few years before Favre

    Brooks

    95' 102rec, 1497yrds, 13td's

    97' 60rec, 1010yrds, 7td's

    Schroeder

    99' 74rec, 1051yrds, 5td's

    00' 65rec, 999yrds, 4td's

    01' 53rec, 918yrds, 9td's

Dorsey Levens wasnt great at rushing, but he excelled at receiving the ball out of the backfield

    95' 48rec, 434yrds, 4td's

    97' 53rec, 370yrds, 5td's

    99' 71rec, 573yrds, 1td

    Mark Chmura had 6, 4, and 7 td's

    Bubba Franks had 9, 7, 4, 7 td's

    Dallas

Irvin had 7 1000yrd seasons, and one more in the 900's

    750rec, 11904yrds, 65td's in his career

Harper had zero 1000yrd seasons, and only 1 over 800yrds

    191rec, 3473yrds, 21td's

Novacek had 5 seasons over 500yrds receiving.

    422rec, 4630 yrds, 30td's

18 out of the top 25 receiving seasons came by WR's that Favre threw passes to while only 9 out of the top 25 came Aikmans way. I think its obvious that Favre had better receivers during his career. Team, maybe not, but WR's dont even come close.

Thanks for making me take time out of my day to prove you wrong. :censored:

Did you ever think that maybe Favre made these players better? Favre only had Sharpe for one year during his prime. And Bubba Franks was never a good reciver and TD's for a tightend are like RBI's very circumstantial. Brooks and Freeman had no good years without Favre. Even when Freeman was on the Eagles and had Mcnabb to throw him the ball all he had was one decent year where he only got around 600 yards.

When Brooks left for Denver he sucked and he was only thirty. When Freeman was in Philly he was thirty and their top receiver and all he had was one average season. As far as Driver he was a good target outside of his prime but who knows if Aikman hung around longer they might have given him more weapons so you have to look at the sample size of Aikman being smaller. And Novaceck was still better than Chumra and Franks.

Now to be fair I don't know what Irvin would be like without Aikman since he never played without him during his prime but I think he would be better than Freeman and Brooks who never did much without Favre.

  6. Bills should pounce on this guy. The only thing that concerns me is that why did the Rams decide to release him. Was it a cap concern or just that he was not getting along with the new coach or the new system or is he just not that good. Either way he is better than anything we currently have on our roster. From what I hear he had a few injury plagued seasons but he had a healthy 2008 and a good 2008.

While I don't think the Bills front office is going to make this move because he might have other teams driving up his price but they would be fools to at least not take a good look at him and see what the market value for him is.

He fits one of our biggest needs and maybe the biggest needs on the defensive side of the ball.

  7. I would say that at the height of Farves MVP runs Antonio Freeman was as good or better than Irvin was. Career wise, absolutely not. But for a few years he was one of the best WR's in the NFL. And I would think that Bubba Franks and Mark Chmura were just as good if not better then Jay Novechek. Emmit Smith is the difference maker IMO. But overall I think Farve had better receivers in his career than Aikman did.

No freeman was an above average receiver with one great and one very good year but that was a product of the qb maximizing his skill set and the situation he was in. Irving had over six 1000 yard seasons in a row. He also had two more one thousand yard season toward the end of his carer. Chmura had two good seasons and Bubba Franks had only one season where he caught more than 400 yards he was just a really good blocking tightend.

So for two years Farve had a good wide out and a good tight end but Aikman had all those weapons throughout his carer. Farve never had the level of talent Aikman did.

  8. If Buffalo could bring him in on a one year incentive-laden deal, they would be stupid not to. If healthy, he would be an immediate update at LT. If not, then they really didn't lose anything. Signing him to a multiyear deal or including much guaranteed money would be stupid. He would be a nice addition, but its not like he puts us in the Superbowl.

Great point its not like people on this board feel his is the final piece or that we should give up the world to get him its just it won't cost us much and if it has a chance of making us better why not take it as long as we have nothing to loose.

  9. I like some of the linebackers out there but I think that the bills have to go out and get one but they won't. And Jason Taylor is still out there why not cut Kelsay and pick him up it is an upgrade and I don't think it would cost you too much maybe like 4.5 million with 2 million in incentives and if you cut kelsay you have a wash in terms of money as well.

Yeah there are players out there but you have to wounder if they were any good wouldn't anyone have given them a good offer. So a guy like Derrick Brooks looks appealing but why isn't he getting more interest you think if he even had a chance of having anything left a team would pounce with a 1 to 2 million dollar offer with incentives.

  10. Hey KRC, I appreciate the history lesson, but the designer of this post clearly intended for this to be a 1970's/80's to present coversation. How can anyone pretend to know who's better from era to era? Are you saying you're confindent that if Peyton Manning played in the 30's or 40's he wouldn't be as good as the greats from that era? Where's Y.A. Tittle on your list? Who's a better all-time goalie, Terry Sawchuck or Martin Brodeur? Baseball is the only sport where you can have an intelligent conversation comparing players from different eras. Out.

Martin Brodeur is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. He is the excellence of execution. Although the Dominator is a respectable second and Roy a distant third.

  11. Well I personally would be up for signing Jones. I don't think that he would cost all that much unless a team like Detroit makes a move on him and gives him a retarded amount of money. I don't see Seattle giving him big money since they have big money wrapped up in Walter Jones. If the Bills could give him a decent one or two year deal with a heavy amount of incentives I would be all for it.

Langston Walker is an above average RT who played LT when he was younger and was terrible at that position. he has only gotten older so why I am to believe that he is going to be even an acceptable LT. Jones is worth trying out if you sign him and he gets hurt than just go with what you were going to have before you got him. The o-line is so reshuffled that it doesn't matter if you shuffle it around a little more. If you have Chambers and Levitre off the bench than that makes your line even better.

If it won't cost you too much why not try and get Jones. Its worth the risk you have the RB's and WR's you need a line to protect the QB that has to get the ball to those weapons. And its made that much more important when your QB is an injury risk

  12. I had this passed to me through a BMW / Mercedes driving friend that said Ralph had a change since his beloved daughter had passed before him. Ralph no longer wants to burden his family with this huge future obligation and has realized through indirect professional tax pro's he is dropping the ball not planning this out ahead of time. He will still seek concessions on behalf of the new owners and make those concessions an important part of the deal for the team to go on in Buffalo. He plans on securing his legacy of what he has accomplished and may even make an announcement around his HOF time in Canton (TBD), with part of the speech decicated to his daughter's memory.

I am not that creative to make this up and pretty much have given every detail I remember as it was explained to me.

    GO BILLS!!

P.S. My BMW had a light come on today and is going to the shop tomorrow to get it fixed.

The only thing I doubt is that he has made up his mind so soon. If such a decision was to be made I think it would take longer than a few weeks. Selling anything worth hundreds of millions of dollars is a big decision that takes time.If this came out during the later summer months I would be more likely to believe it. But i think that Ralph has to be at least taking it under consideration.

It may be the best thing for Ralph to sell the franchise with a qualifier that the team has to stay in Buffalo for at least another 10 years and than longer if they agree to renovate the stadium or something to that effect. Plus the inheritance tax burden might force the sale anyway and they might not have anyone who wants to keep the bills in buffalo.

  13. Football wears on ones body epically a position like QB where you could get a direct hit unprotected at any snap. Kelley had enough and I think that if he could not play at least at an above average starter level he did not want to play. 36 in most sports is not too old usually means you have like three to five years left but in football it takes a lot of commitment to play at that age and Kelly just didn't want to do so much only to be an above average QB.

If you read blindside it makes a good point of how most athletes want to go home safely and cash their checks. They want to win but most athletes want to remain healthy and live their lives and Kelley looked at the fact that he just had a son and was getting older he had no reason to carry on if it meant risking his health.

  14. McNabb didn't even know a regular season game can end in a tie. He is the modern day version of Randall Cunningham. Good, but not great.

Cunningham never elevated a team that had little to no talent at WR RB and TE to championship caliber. The one year he got deep into the playoffs he had Randy Moss, Chris Carter, and a pretty good o-line as well as a decent running game in Robert Smith.

Mcnabb had an average running game and no help at WR or TE as well as an o-line that was great at run blocking but just average at pass blocking and those teams knocked on the door of the superbowl for three seasons and than TO and Westbrook helped them breakdown that door and if it wasn't for TO breaking apart that team they would have at least had two to three more seasons of superbowl contention. And along with that and injuries is what probably cost him the Hall Of Fame unless he puts up another two to three year run of very good play even than he still might not make it.

Not saying Mcnabb was the best but he had four years that were a top ten to five stretch for any qb once again just worth a mention. Another note those years yielded four trips to the NFC championship game and a superbowl loss.

  15. The skill position players rival those teams but the o-line a qb are no where close at least at this point. The o-line is young and could be a good unit. As far as Trent he could be good but it depends on three things one his o-line, two his coaching, and three his ability to stay healthy. He has the mental make up and a good enough arm as well as good accuracy to become a starter caliber qb in the NFL but its up to all those factors.

But this years team has the RB's and WR's to power the offense its up to a young o-line and Trent to make use of that. But the 1991 team did not have this many questions going into the season.

  16. Elway first and Marino second after that its not even close. Look at the Broncos teams he got to the Super Bowl in the 1980's their defense was good but not great and no where near good enough to carry a team and their offense was John Elway everyone else sucked. He carried a bad offense to the Superbowl three times and than when he got talent around him Rod Smith and McCaffrey and Terrel Davis as well as a good o-line he cashed in twice and put up the numbers.

Another player I want to put in as having one of the best four years of any qb ever is Donavon McNabb. In the earlier part of this decade he got a team that had no wide receivers and a good but not great defense to the NFC championship game three times and than once they got him TO he got to the SuperBowl and only lost by three points to a team that was probably cheating.

Just saying that when he had Duce Staley running the ball ( not terrible but mediocre ) and Todd Stinkson and Fredex (who sucked and there was no real tightend either) to throw the ball to. He powered his offense to near championship caliber despite not having any real skill position players. Eagles at that time did have an O-line so its not completely Elway like but just worth noting is all.

  17. That Aikman had all that great talent and cashed in with SB victories is what makes him great and a top 10 QB.

Many QBs get to play with great players and they still never win a SB, plus they have a great defense.

Aikman probably had one of the best defensive teams to play with also, but that doesn't diminish his status.

Yeah Aikman cashed in thats why he is a top 20 qb all time. If you put Aikman on the early 1990's Dolphins he might have a few good years and a few playoff appearances but no where near the numbers Marino had and no where near the constancy and playoff victories and deep runs Marino had. It does take talent to take a great team all the way three times but it doesn't take top ten all time talent to do so.

And name a qb who had talent around him on offense AND a great defense and didn't win a super bowl. Even Kelly didn't have all that.

  18. Looks like a move the bills might actually make. He won't get much interest from other teams so he could come cheap. Like 2.5 million guaranteed with another two million in incentives for two years. It is a move that is worth the risk because there is so little risk involved

  19. They've diminished by his standards, but still pretty good for the most part:

    65.7 % completion rate

    3472 yds

    22 TD

    81.0 rating

That's significantly more production than we're getting from our QB spot!

You forget to mention 22 int's as well as a terrible last half of the season. But with all that if I were a Vikes fan I would want him. The Vikes have a situation that he could work in. The Vikes could try and put Bret in a situation like he had in 2007 where he was asked to do less and it worked.

You think our qb situation is bad. The Vikes have a 40 year old qb coming off of injury who is a much better option than what they currently have.

  20. Then I guess when ESPN, NFL.com and so forth, come out and say that "XYZ" has the toughest or easiest schedule, they have no idea what they're talking about.

They are basing that on the previous year's results. And there is so much turnover in the NFL. All I am saying that the NFL has more teams that go from good to bad and bad to good that you don't know how hard the schedule is at the beginning of the season. Last year the Dolphins and Falcons were looked at as cupcakes and the Jags and Packers were looked at as hard games. It's not that they have no idea its just what they are going off of may not be accurate.

  21. Bills are missing two things for me to say they have a playoff caliber defense. One is an obvious one and thats a solid outside linebacker. But what gives me hope is that there are decent upgrades out there for relatively nothing.

The next thing we need is a big D-tackle to pair up with Stroud. John Henderson seems to be a pipe dream and there might not be much else out there epically for what the Bills would like to give up. A gut like Ryan Pickett would be ideal but I don't think he is on the block. A guy like Docket might be available but the Bills don't want to give up a lot of picks plus dole out an extension even if the guy was actually on the block. I like Kyle Williams but not as a starter he seems more like a situational kind of player. And Spencer Johnson is a rotational player as well.

So a linebacker is a need I hope we address asap because it won't cost us that much. As for DT I think we are going with what we got.

  22. Are there any big free agents available next year. Who knows maybe there will be a Jay Cutler like situation next year. but drafting a QB is a huge commitment and even if Trent falls on his face this year who knows what pick we will finish with. A possibility is we still finish 6-10 or 7-9 and finish with a pick in the 9-12 range of the draft so a top QB might not be availble at that spot.

So its pretty hard to say what we can do because we do not know the circumstances of the next off season. But if I had to put money on it I say we try to go the trade route. If a guy like Cassle ( a back up who plays extremely well ) or Cutler ( a guy who is on the outs with a new coaching staff ) is available than we use a second rounder to pull the trigger on that kind of guy.

But lets hope Trent stays healthy and preforms well. Its up to him and the O-line this year.

  23. I wouldn't say folks get down on the Bills because of the schedule, they get down on the circumstances that seem to keep stacking the odds up against us year after year. I do agree with you however we can't put to much into the schedule. Look at what happened last year, it should have been an easier year with Brady going down and Miami in a rebuilding stage yet New England still beats the Bills twice and Miami wins the division so go figure. I realize the two teams I mentioned are on our schedule every year , but my point is from one year to the next we don't know how well teams will do, we can speculate and with teams like the Patriots we will probably be correct , but luckily for us most teams aren't as consistent as the Patriots are year in and year out.

There is reason for optimism and reason for pessimism. But our whole season pretty much revolves around Trent Edwards and our o-line. I think our defense is going to be between 12-16 in the league a very respectable bunch (as long as they get a linebacker) but nothing spectacular. Our skill position players are set so its pretty much up to our qb and the brand new o-line that protects him to get the job done. and I see why someone would have no confidence in either unit on the offensive side of the ball.

The schedule being difficult is something that is just speculation you don't know if the schedule is hard yet.
