The Rams cut him, they didn't have a good defense at all last year, we actually ran all over them and were able to give Edwards protection against there rush. He's undersized, I'm tried of undersized guys with "high motors". Would you want Paris Lenon because he led his team in tackles. I honestly didn't much about Piso until he got released and Bills wanted to get him. I'm most likely wrong but it seems there were better LBs we should of signed and better LBs that are still unsigned.
While I get the concern its not like there is anyone better left in free agency ( maybe Derrick Brooks but he might be done or retire ). Pisa is young and can play at a higher weight and is certainly an upgrade over what we have at a seizable margin. Pisa does come with concerns like his health issues and the fact that he got released from a bad team but I think the Juice is worth the squeeze

If this deal goes down, moorah! We would be sitting pretty on defense. A solid starting corp and pretty nice depth to boot. I would have zero complaints until and unless the season shows Maybin and/or Byrd can't contribute like we are all hoping.
Do this deal immediately, and follow it up with an acquisition of somebody who can play LT. Give Levi Jones a massive incentive laden contract or trade picks for an established LT. For flip's sake please don't start the season with Langston Walker at LT. I like Trent Edwards and I want him to live long enough to have children and grandchildren one day.
The list of positions we need to upgrade continues to dwindle and more and more the talk is of adding depth - which is ALWAYS the sign of a good team. Two more positions and what appears to be great signs that one of them will be filled...we are getting close. If we signed Pisa and Levi Jones, we would be left with a roster with no glaring weaknesses anywhere and pretty substantial depth throughout. We would have game breaking skill position players, and what should be a very solid defensive line. Add to that premier special teams play, and the Bills could be for real.
Well even if we sign pisa and we sign levi jones and he can stay healthy and approximate his old production we still have holes on our roster. We need a DT to go next to Stroud the only guy on our roster who can fill that is McCargo and thats a longshot. Another need is a DE Schobel is a health concern and the backups don't inspire any confidence. Trent is a health concern and the o-line could have trouble with three to five players at new positions. So its a roster filling out but there are still concerns and holes.

BF'89--you really think we need another DE? Denney can flip, Spencer Johnson can play both, Ellis and Maybin all can back up Schobel....
I agree on the DT by the way--but I am willing to give McCargo a chance with new Coaching and attention from Bob Sanders.
Yeah Schobel is an injury risk and are you confident that if he goes down we will have a good pass rush. Maybin can't anchor the pass rush and Denny, Ellis, and Johnson are nice but no way would I go with them long term they are role players. So yeah I think they need a D-end to keep us from relying on Scholbel so much. And I am not too high on Kelsay taking a step up if Schobel gets hurt.

I like the fact that the bills are looking to bring this guy in. My only hope is that this is not a jocking for position move by Pisa. I hope he is not trying to up his value to another team by using Buffalo's interest in him. While he would not be the last piece he would be a nice acquisition that would make this defense deeper and more complete.
I put the Bills needs on defense as DT, LB, and a backup DE for Schoble. Pisa fills one of those needs and there is nothing else available at the bills price to fill the other two needs so I think they should go after him.

You paint quite a pretty picture here. I also HOPE that comes to pass, but I just can't believe it will happen that way.
It's just that the last 10 years or so they haven't done the things that make a successful team. They've been good enough to be just below average and that's what I expect out of them. As whatever higher power you may believe in knows, I hope for the best and will be cheering on my team every step of the way... but when I step back and try to be objective and evaluate them, I'm left with what's in front of me.
I don't know why Ralph does not want to try and spend some money on this team. He is 94 if you aren't going to sell the team why not try and put the best product out there. If Jauron tanks I mean like a 1-5 start why not spend some money on a good coach. If Gruden demands like 4 million a year why not give it to him. If that means Ralph takes a smaller profit than why not.
From what I hear he makes around 10 million which is one of the smallest profit margins in the NFL. ( I think only the Lions lose money ) so if you are 94 years old who cares if you make only 5 million or break even. They are pinching pennies when there are so few reason to i mean you can't take it with you. Don't get me wrong I like Ralph but at this point why not just go for it and a good coach is the best place to start turning around a culture of sub par performance.

Actually, Bobby April is a guy I'd like to see get a chance, if he'd want to, to run a team. Special Teams encompasses the whole team, and he sees and interacts, and gets to perform at a high level, a bunch of guys. His track record is impressive, and, if you've ever heard him talk or read his quotes, he's a very intelligent guy. What do you think?
April seems to have the right mindset but how are his football smarts. He can run a special teams unit real well but can he run an offense and a defense? I don't know if he will get outsmarted by the better coaches in the league. Simply put how high is his football IQ?
I personally would like a big name coach one who has a ring. Over the last decade we have been hiring guys with no head coaching under their belt or a guy like Jauron who is a failure as a coach. We need to reverse the trend and we can't hire another guy like Mularky or Jauron because it furthers our small market status. A big time hire at coach begins to turn around the culture of the team.
Shanny seems like a fit for Dallas and Cower is unlikely to go anywhere without total control and big money. That leaves Gruden who made a winner out of Oakland ( which is a worse situation than ours ) and won a championship in Tampa. I like Gruden and I think if he got canned earlier in the offseason he might be the Bills coach.

He missed a lot of tackles and was burned plenty in his time in SD. Also, a penalty magnet.
His highlights do not forgive his inconsistancy.
I don't like him, hope he gets cut.
I like him as a depth guy if he is the nickel back and a back up for the free safety spot. In San Diego he seemed to play really well in spot starts and as a role player. I have only seen him play in the playoffs and a few games but from what I saw and from what I hear on scouts reports ect he seems to be a guy who if he starts for a long period of time he gets exposed but if he plays a game or two he works out well and if he plays in a role he plays well.
But yeah as a starter for a long period of time he shows the warts in his game.

If it came down to Dick getting the pink slip...I agree with April getting the nod...
However, getting Shanny & Gruden mid-season would'nt work...they would turn down the job in a heartbeat...not because it's coaching for the Bills...mostly because coaching a sinking-ship team half way through the season-isn't that enticing...
Me personally, in the long run...I'd love to see Gruden coach the Bills if things don't work out...
True but it is also possible that Gruden or another big name coach could be given an agreement with Ralph that they are the coach next year and that gives them the chance to evaluate the talent they have already on the roster and try and get a jump on finding out what coaches they want.
It doesn't happen that often but I think it could work out because the Bills don't always get top candidates and top assistants and getting an early jump on a coaching staff is a good way to curb that. I think Dallas is doing something similar with Shanny if Wade does not work out.

Bobby April would be the interim head coach.
Well if they can get Gruden or another proven coach in asap why would they wait till the season ends when they could get the guy they want now and not risk him getting away. But yeah if they had to promote form within they should go with April.

O.k. its no secret that most Bills fans are down on Jauron after his sub par coaching over the last three years. Now the first question I have is at what point do you fire Jauron? I think if they go 1-4 or 2-6 you pull the plug and start over. Now the question is who do you replace him with? Do you hire a guy like Gruden to try and give him time to evaluate the players on the roster or do you promote from within and see who is available during the offseason? If you do that than who do you hire.

Who knows maybe he wants way too much money. It looks like a great move on paper but there are two big issues here one he has had injury issues over two of the last three seasons even thought he had an injury free 2008. The second issue is if he was so good why did he get released? It seems like he is a guy who doesn't fit a coaches system but the team still plays a 4-3 so what weakness is there in his game?

I never thought that moulds would say something like that but its true i would classify our staff as being in the bottom third of the league. Really sad that moulds would say something that blatantly against the team and our response is thats mean but true

Agent: "Done. You'll more likely be able to shine on the biggest stage with the Pats and we'll roll this into big bank next year. Smart move.
If that happened than O.k. but at least have the better offer on the table. Also Would he start on the Pats? He played OLB in a 4-3 what does that translate to in a 3-4 would he shift inside or play outside? That kind of shift and less playing time might hurt his production and than his pocket. An added perk of coming to the Bills would be that he would start and be in similar system. Just saying there are a few factors to think of besides Bills or Pats its not the Fred Taylor situation.

Honestly TO only has one more good year left if that. I think he is going to give us one good year but than let him walk. At the beginning of next year TO will be 36. 36 come on even if TO was a saint over his whole carer he would still be due for a decline in production. And last year was not exactly his biggest year either. Take the year of TO and use it to develop Hardy as your number two threat for the 2010 season or Steve Johnson if he shows some flashes.

That's a pretty reasonable expectation except for the sack total. Keep in mind that the 2008 draft first rounders Chris Long (4), Glenn Dorsey (1), Vernon Gholston (0), Sedrick Ellis (4), Derrick Harvey (3.5), Lawrence Jackson (2) and Kentwan Balmer (0) only got 14.5 sacks combined in their first year in the league. In college they had 123 sacks combined so the leap to the NFL is not an easy one for these youngsters but I think that if Maybin got 4-6 sacks then he had an excellent rookie year. If he were to exceed that then Buffalo got a steal at the 11th pick.
Yeah everyone called Mario Williams a bust when he only got like three or four sacks his rookie year since than he has gotten over 25 sacks in the last two years. you are right it takes a lot of time for these types of players to develop and Maybin is defiantly no exception. Even if Maybin gets only 1 or 2 sacks his rookie year you can't call him a bust.

The pats* just lost a LB for the year, he is more of a need there than here. Ill be surprised if the Bills make a move for this guy
They lost a third round draft pick for a year I doubt they had that guy penciled in as a starter. If Elison was on the Pats he would be their worst linebacker as of right now he is our starter. The pats can go out and grab a vet or two there are plenty of average OLB's available who would make good backups. Pisa is a guy we need big time he fills out our defense nicely and helps us out at a big time position of need. Bills need to at least go out and pursue this guy they can't simply let money or confidence in a fifth round pick get in the way. If they give him a good offer and he doesn't come than so be it.

I expect maybin to get between 6 and 8.5 sacks this year. To me his rookie year is going to be one were he shows flashes of brilliance but disappears at times. He still has to put on 10-15 pounds of muscle and learn more pass rush moves to get past the better quicker tackles in the league as well as play with the weight he has added on.
What I really want to see from Maybin is a sack total above 5 and a good amount of QB pressures and hits. If he can get to the QB a lot during his rookie season even if the sacks don't come that shows me that he will only get better and develop into a serious pass rusher.

Derrick Brooks would be the perfect OLB to bring in.He still has 2 great years in him.
He is a Prowl Bowler in the cover 2 system,year aftrer year.Who better to show our backers how to make plays in that system.He is a good leader and a smart linebacker.Always in the right place at the right time.That is the one piece to the defensive puzzle the Bills are missing.John Henderson would be the last piece the Bills would need to have a top 5 defense.
If he had anything left he would be with a team right now. It seems like he is done and will just get a camp invite or a veteran minimum at best

If they sign pisa at lb that would make me comfortable with the defense to be a near top ten unit. If levi jones signs it is no sure thing to fix our o-line but it is worth a shot at least.
As for McCargo he is a longshot to be productive if he had such potential than why did we trade him to the colts for almost nothing?

Well to be fair that article that Tim Graham either wrote or posted ( I am pretty sure he wrote it but I am not a 100% sure ) kind of tipped off the league to at least prepare for the possibility for a no huddle offense. I also think that they want to use the no huddle as a real offensive set rather than a gimmick. I am pretty sure they want to use it in pratice, scrimmages, as well as pre season games and be fully prepared to implement it.
So eventually the league and the pats would have known.

well seeing as how there are no real affordable upgrades available at the DT spot the answer is going to have to come from what we have. Stroud is a stud but Williams is more of a really good rotational player. Spencer Johnson or McCargo has to be the answer and Johnson seems like a better fit as a role player.
McCargo has to show up big this year and its an encouraging sign that he is at least giving it his all during this offseason. The one thing that scares me is if he has potential why did the Bills try and ship him off to the Colts for not much in return? I hope McCargo develops so when Stroud hits the wall in the next two to three years we aren't left with nothing at the DT position. But I am not counting on it at all.

Im not here to get into an arguement over Aikman vs Farve. Im just proving my point that Aikman didnt have better weapons. Irvin was his best WR and only had 65td's in his career. At the same time Driver had 85 and Freeman had 61. You made it clear that you thought Aikman had better weapons and I proved that he didnt. Other than Michael Irvin, his best WR through out those years that you claim were so amazing he had Alvin Harper who failed to up up more than 1000yrds. If you combined all of the WRs on Green Bay you would see that Farve had multiple 1000yrd double digit td guys almost year after year. And Farve had Sharpe for 3 years.

All im saying is that maybe we should not stroke Brett's epeen so much. The guy only won 1 SB. He doesnt deserve to be labelled as the best of all time just because he played more than anyone esle. The guy had 18 chances to win the big one and only did it once. Aikman, Montana, Bradshaw, Brady, Elway all have more SB wins and have done it in less years. Aikman is one of very few that have 3 SB rings as a starting QB. It should count for something.
If you could put Irvin and Novacek on the Packers during thier 1994-1998 run when favre was at his best they put up sick numbers and if you put Brooks Freeman Schroder and Chumra on the Cowboys they are just average and they have shown that by how they did nothing without Favre during their carers. As for Harper if he was on those Green Bay teams than I think he puts up good numbers as well maybe a few years like Freeman and Brooks had.
As for Sharpe the first two years he was with Favre was still learning the position so yeah he had him but only one year at his peak. As for Driver the only reason I discount him as talent Favre had was because Driver came after the 1990's run so he is more of a product of Favre hanging around and Green Bay restocking the talent around him because he hung around for so long. Just saying that adding in Driver is a comparison from a different era is all.
Aikman had better talent year in and year out. I never said that Favre is the best of all time just that he is in the lower top ten all time and Aikman is somewhere in the top 20 all time. Aikman's rings do count they put him somewhere in the top 20 thats pretty good in my book to be regarded as one of the top twenty QB's all time.

Did you ever think that maybe Favre made these players better? Favre only had Sharpe for one year during his prime. And Bubba Franks was never a good reciver and TD's for a tightend are like RBI's very circumstantial. Brooks and Freeman had no good years without Favre. Even when Freeman was on the Eagles and had Mcnabb to throw him the ball all he had was one decent year where he only got around 600 yards.
When Brooks left for Denver he sucked and he was only thirty. When Freeman was in Philly he was thirty and their top receiver and all he had was one average season. As far as Driver he was a good target outside of his prime but who knows if Aikman hung around longer they might have given him more weapons so you have to look at the sample size of Aikman being smaller. And Novaceck was still better than Chumra and Franks.
Now to be fair I don't know what Irvin would be like without Aikman since he never played without him during his prime but I think he would be better than Freeman and Brooks who never did much without Favre.

Bills should pounce on this guy. The only thing that concerns me is that why did the Rams decide to release him. Was it a cap concern or just that he was not getting along with the new coach or the new system or is he just not that good. Either way he is better than anything we currently have on our roster. From what I hear he had a few injury plagued seasons but he had a healthy 2008 and a good 2008.
While I don't think the Bills front office is going to make this move because he might have other teams driving up his price but they would be fools to at least not take a good look at him and see what the market value for him is.
He fits one of our biggest needs and maybe the biggest needs on the defensive side of the ball.

Since Sabermetrics took over baseball there has been a big push to analyze sports differently on a more intellectual level. Do you feel that Safermetrics or the Sabermetrics of football are legit or just over thinking what wasn't broken.
I feel that baseball and football are two completely different sports. In baseball you get a more static event in an at bat because every at bat starts the same 0 balls 0 strikes and a pitcher throwing at them. Yeah who is on base and other factors come in to play but you can do more in baseball to adjust for that with splits and other projections. As well as that a player's batting isn't hurt or benefited that much by who their teammates are
In football both the defense and offense are more of a symbiotic relationship. A QB Can have his stats altered by his surrounding cast. A secondary can look worse due to a lack of a pass rush or run defense ( like the Bills secondary has suffered ) and vice versa a pass rush could make an average secondary look better ( Like the NY Giants secondary benefited from )
So while I look at the new stats I take them with a grain of salt knowing that you have to look at the circumstances that surround those stats and projections.
How much do you value what is going on as far as new stats and analysis in football.
