Sorry to clarify by play style I meant situational play. If the team finds its self nursing leads late in games and not playing from behind then they are going to play a ball control style of offense that grinds the clock down and doesn't score points late in games. The defense kept almost every single game close to the point where teams weren't giving up garbage time points that often inflate PPG stats for bad teams. The offense was slightly below average because the O-line had been completely overhauled with 4 new starters, Josh had his growing pains and there were only two quality NFL receivers to throw to. The play calling can always be better but that wasn't the thing holding back a top 10 offense.

PPG could be deflated by play style. But I agree the offense was not a top half of the league offense let alone an elite one. If I had to rank the offense last season it wouldn't be tragic but it would probably be 17-20ish and if you have a top 3-4 defense you probably are going to lean on that to get your team some wins. I hope with the additions of Diggs and Moss along with progression in Josh and Singletary (along with O-line chemistry) the team can knock on having a top 10 offense which should give them a good shot to win playoff games if the defense can be about as good as it was last season.

I never really care or give a ***** about coaches salaries because it isn't like there is a salary cap and it seems that the Pegulas can afford it. But whatever they are paying McD it seems to be worth it. He has this team in position to be a serious contender the next 3 seasons and I think they can guide this ship beyond that.
-
This coach took this team to the playoffs twice in three seasons after missing the playoffs for 17 straight seasons and he has the team positioned for sustained success the next 3 seasons with a QB on a rookie deal and a good drafting track record thus far. What more could you be waiting on?
-
I think McD will open things up if he feels he can trust Josh more. Since 2017 when he got here he hasn't had a QB or an offense that has been the team's strength. The defense has always been the strong suit of the team and McD has smartly played to the team's strength to get 2 winning seasons and 2 playoff appearances. He hasn't really had a QB or an offense that can play "aggressively." I hope that in 2020 with Josh getting another year under him, an O-line with better chemistry and Diggs adding more pop to the skill position set the offense comes together and makes more aggressive play a consistent part of the team's playing style. You should only go conservative when you are up 3 possessions when you have only 3-4 possessions left in the game. McD seemed to go conservative with a 2 score lead fairly early in the second half when the Texans had 6-7 possessions left.

Josh Norman Giving High Praise to the Bills
billsfan89 replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He not only was a Pro-Bowl CB in 2015 but he was also an All-Pro that year. He was also a dam good player in 2014 when he first started and probably should have been a pro-bowl player that year but he didn't start until week 5. He was still a pretty good corner in Washington from 2016 to 2018 even if he wasn't living up to a massive contract. I know PFF isn't the be all end end all but he got grades above 69 (which is a pretty good grade definitely starting caliber) from 2016 to 2018. Fans and the eye test say from 2016 to 2018 Norman was still an average to good player just not living up to his massive deal. It wasn't until 2019 when he fell off and had his worst season to date. He basically had been a great corner for 2 seasons (2014 and 2015) and a solid one for three seasons (2016-2018) that's a pretty accomplished player. And considering McD was his coach when he had his two best seasons I think he is a worthy reclamation project. Especially since he doesn't have to be as good as he was in Carolina (although if he was this team has by far the best secondary in the league.) If Norman is as good as he was in his first 3 years in Washington he will help this team win. So the poster categorizing him as a two time failed CB is epically hilarious since he left Carolina an All-Pro who got a massive 75 million dollar deal. -
Josh Norman Giving High Praise to the Bills

Once again he is asked questions daily by the media is he supposed to just take fines and not talk to the media? You are acting like he isn't saying positive things. You are being hostile to a guy saying the Bills have a good organization -

Josh Norman is regularly asked questions by the media (as is the sports media's right) and he gave a glowing review of the organization. Do you want him to please the 5th? -
Tom Brady said learning new playbook is tough
billsfan89 replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jamis is much better at getting the ball down field in 2019 than Brady but Jamis is also so much more turnover prone. The trade off probably benefits a game manager plus like Brady but I think a lot has to fall right for Tampa Bay including a 43 year old QB coming off his worst season since before the Iraq War. -
He will be 27 in November, that being said he is in his prime and I think he can anchor the WR1 position for 3 to 4 seasons and still be productive for another 2 to 3 after that. But my main point was that he is someone who in 3 years might not have to much "prime" years left and might need a younger player to take the pressure off.

DL and LB Projected Depth Chart
billsfan89 replied to BillsShredder83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Phillips and Oliver should start at DT with Butler and Jefferson working in. Hughes and Addision should start at DE with Murphy and AJ (and possibly Jefferson) working in. LB should be simple Edumonds and Milano will be in the Nickel and Klein will be the third LB in on "standard" sets. -
If this team hits long term on Davis that will be huge for this team going forward. Brown and Beasley are older (and Brown carries a big injury history) and Diggs isn't super young for the position. If McBeane can get a guy like Davis to develop into a higher end starting WR it would greatly ensure the future of the team.
-
Winning and investment in the team will end up doing that. The Pegulas not only invested when it came to free agents and ditching cash to cap but they also built a state of the art practice facility and one of the best support infrastructures in the league. Now they have a head coach GM Combo that can put it all together and it's resulting in winning. All that leads to a good reputation within the league.
-
I think Long's salary made it harder to trade him.
-
Not shocking he found a landing spot, Oline play in the league is hard to come by. He should be able to hang around the league for a few more years.
-
I was fully agreeing, kind of confusing as to how I wrote it. This team's window to win in the next 2-3 years. Tre helps this team win the next 3 seasons far more than 2 first round picks and a second round pick would. Whereas even if Adams was as good as Tre the Jets are several years away from contending with or without him. The draft picks and cap space better fit the Jets window of building a team. Simply put the Jets are kind of where the Bills were in 2017 if they had Josh that year hypothetically. If the Bills had a disgruntled Tre in 2017 it would probably make sense to trade him and facilitate a rebuild long term as if you are 2-3 years away might as well take the cost controlled picks. I also think given that Tre is a model citizen and an All-Pro you take care of him as it is best for the team long and short term.
-
The Jets weren't a Jamal Adams away from competing in the next 2-3 seasons. Those picks and the cap relief of not having to sign Adams to a deal are of much more value to them. The Bills are a Tre White away from contending in the next 2-3 years. The secondary is heavily anchored by Tre and even if the Bills hauled in two first round picks and a second round pick along with a decent player for Tre it still would hold less value for the Bills over the next 2-3 years. Yes long term in a 4-7 year time frame could the Bills get more value out of 3 premium draft picks and the cap space from Tre? Arguably yes (Most player for picks trades usually look better long term for the team that gets the picks), but your window to contend in the NFL is short and losing your best defensive player almost no matter what the return hurts your team's ability to contend and sets you back from winning while you have as complete a team as possible. I also think the message you send to the team by trading away a leader almost certainly helps tank your season. Tre was literally the first player drafted by McD and he has been an All-Pro. You have to send a message to your team you are willing to take care of your own. Tre is also a super great guy who you feel comfortable handling a big contract and his play on the field more than justifies it. That's why the Diggs trade makes sense for the Bills given the window to win. The Bills might have been better served long term by having drafted a WR who would be in team control for 5 years with that pick and have some more sort term cap space. But Diggs makes an impact from day one and maximizes the team's window to win the next 2-3 seasons in a way a rookie most likely wouldn't have. Time tables matter. Even if Adams was as good as Tre on the field the Jets were better off trading him because they aren't going anywhere the next 2 years anyway. Adams no matter how good he was isn't the difference between the Jets contending and the Jets not contending. If you are at least a year or two away getting two first round picks and cap relief is insanely good for them at their point of rebuilding. The Bills on the other hand are a Tre White away from competing. The Bills need Tre to maximize a window to win in the next 2-3 seasons. Whereas had the Jets kept Adams they wouldn't see a window to really win with him until he was on a big contract in his late 20's.

I don't get this obsession with moving Ford into guard without seeing what he has at RT first. I thought Ford's play actually did improve at RT when Ty got hurt later on. He was tragic early on but I thought by the end of the season was playing at a respectable level. The organization is going to let him have an offseason to learn and get back out there at RT. If he looks bad there this season kick him in. If not keep him out there.

Stefon Diggs contract has been “tweaked”
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seems reasonable for both sides. -
Weird reclamation projects at QB will almost always be a fixture at the QB position. After Flutie, Cunningham and Vinny in 1998 every few years there comes around a QB reclamation. As others have mentioned guys like Brad Johnson, Kurt Warner, Michael Vick, Bret Farve and Nick Foles have had later career revivals similar to those 1998 QB's. So will 3 happen in one season like in 1998? Possible but unlikely, however these revival stories are going to come around here and there.

Article: do the bills have a problem at CB2?
billsfan89 replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Possibly? I think Levi Wallace is a decent CB2 option and Norman is a reclamation project. So if Josh Norman busts they can plug in Levi Wallace and be fine. -
That could be possible. If that is the case then there isn't much you can do. I do like that the team was aggressive to get Winters after Feliciano's injury. But it would have been nice to keep Long through camp.
-
I think so, I think he will be one of the top MLB's in the game. He was already playing at a top 5 level towards the back half of last season. I think he can put in a full season of top play at the position.
