Nah, Winfield is much better than you give him credit for. Pat Williams loss hurt the Bills D more than they will ever admit. Those 2 guys were worth holding onto. The other guys are insignificant. Living in the DC area, Fletcher is the same player he was with the Bills. A sound defensive leader, but he is not going to win you any games. Spikes was good with Buffalo, but washed up afterwards. He's running on fumes in San Fran. Clements is not really missed IMO. Not for those dollars.

Wah! And let's just add Saints coordinator Gregg Williams to the mix. Why not? Oh, and let's wake up that Jason Peters fan who also likes to post like this...

Yeah, its funny how our Socialist President campaigned on change (little did we know it was to change America into a socialist state) and people voted for the platform, but RE-ELECTED the same scum bag congressmen and representatives! I will never understand it! If you really wanted change, get rid of ALL of them!

AMEN! Preaching to the choir, here, Sir. The only constant (with the exception of RW) in the past 10 years...the ONLY constant, is John Guy and Tom Modrak. These guys were brought in by Donahoe, and should have left with him. Buddy Nix is back, and he was with the Bills in the glory days and helped turned San Diego into a talented franchise within a short period of time. I would promote Nix, fire Modrak AND Guy, move Brandon back to marketing, let Jauron loose, and hire one of these coach/GM duos out there (like Holmgren or Shanahan). They wouldn't have complete power, but would share the position with Nix. RW would have the final say in the event of a tie. It truly does start at the top. Total team ineptitude for the past 10 years matches the careers of Modrak and Guy, exactly. There have been coaches, players, and even GM's. All are new than 10 years ago. The product hasn't changed. Neither has Modrak or Guy. It's time for a change.

Coaches?!!? I believe in Marv Levy's philosophy that if a player on the NFL level is not intrinsically motivated to compete, he doesn't belong in the NFL. That quote almost reminds me of the Billy Jo Hobert quote that he didn't know the playbook after a dreadful loss. Next day, Levy sent him packing. Maybe Scott needs the same treatment. 'Sides, wasn't that the major complaint against him in Detroit? Oh, but he loves playing for the Bills and Jauron. Such a better environment, he says. The key word in professional football, PROFESSIONAL, should apply. If Scott can't stay awake long enough to make millions playing a child's game, then he does not deserve to be on a roster.

Oh, please stop this Aaron Rodgers is the savior of the universe speak. 2 seasons ago he was being considered for the biggest first round draft bust since Mike Williams, David Carr, Rick Mirer, etc. When Green Bay sent Brett Favre packing, there were HUGE questions of Rodgers BASED UPON HIS PREVIOUS EXPLOITS IN THE NFL, and they looked foolish. Before last year, no body was on the Rodgers bandwagon. Apparently, you just got on with the rest of 'em. Rodgers displays confidence in the pocket, and laser sharp precise passing. He moves well (confidence), and makes quick decisions. Edwards was making quick, accurate decisions (atleast it seemed that way after having come from the colossal holders of the ball- Bledsoe and Losman), and then came the AZ game last year. Ever since that concussion, he has not been the same player. I'm not even remotely suggesting that he is still suffering symptoms. Rather, I believe that the game destroyed his confidence as a player.

Pitoniak: "Time for some Cowher Power in Buffalo"

Thank you. Until MOdrak and Guy are gone, the beat will go on no matter who is coaching this team. -
Well, that...and Tom Modrak AND John Guy.

players defending jauron ... lol what a joke

Yeah, I read this too. Funny, but the poster boy for not deserving to be on an NFL team but a Jauron-coached team (Ellison) was used for the article. Ofcourse these guys will defend Jauron. Here is a guy who will play many not talented enough to make a top-twenty team in the league. Here is a guy who prefers to go soft to not hurt his players bodies in practice or in those harmful elements because they might catch a cold (forget the fact that your starting QB can't throw a pass in the snow). Scared of the press after a bad game? Don't Worry. Coach J will shield you from all criticism, taking it all on the chin as if it were his fault for how you dropped that pass. Jauron runs Club Med for million dollar athletes. -
Per ESPN: What Bills Logo should look like
Red replied to goynahan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ok, I don't get the Viking one (they are 4-0). The Raiders one is priceless, as their failure to do anything this past decade is sadly a reflection on the growing senility of Mr. Al Davis. But the Bills one....it ticks me off. If I had the ability I would be strapping on the pads right now and driving back to OBD to start ripping some heads off. Talley would probably concur. And Kelly, Thomas, Reed, Smith, Tasker, Levy, etc, etc, etc. Do any of these Bills care? If Jauron were to really grow a set of coaching b@lls and post that clearly for every player to see upon entering and leaving the locker room, would it make a difference? Why do I feel like I am the only one who gets mad at this disrespect anymore? -
Ed Roski will make serious approaches to NFL teams

Having been a former resident of Los Angeles, I can say within a certain degree of accuracy that an NFL won't work in Los Angeles. Southern Californians simply don't care. The Kings? Their own paper doesn't cover them. I believe probably 70% of the residents don't even know there is an NHL team in their midst. Dodgers? Well, I personally hate baseball (boring, steroids, etc), and when I lived there from 99-03 the Dodgers were not too special. Besides, who wants to drive into gangland to watch a baseball game? The only team they seem to rally around is the Lakers. But that could also be because every Hollywood lister starting with Nicholson like to use the game as a personal showcase of themselves. The Rams were there, and left. The Raiders were there, left, came back, and then left again- partly in reason because their stadium at the time was ridiculously built for the Olympic Games of '84 and sat 100,000. Never sold out on a regular basis. I don't know. As an east coast transplant living in SoCal at the time, the ravenous hunger for the NFL just did not exist out West for me. Maybe it was the time difference (try waking up for a 1:00pm game at 10:00am on Sunday). Or the beautiful weather until January (rain season- yeah, a whole month of bad weather). Or the variety of things to do. The transient nature of the film industry and the people it attracts could also be a big factor. I went to 49'ers games, and Charges games when they would play the Bills. About 25%-33% of the fans being transplanted Bills fans, we were louder and more ferocious than the home crowd every time. West Coast is laid back, man. I just don't think that Los Angeles, despite its population, will ever care enough to keep an NFL franchise. And its too bad. The weather is really ideal for it year-round. -

Should the Bills ever move, I am done with the team and probably will have only a passing interest in the league. Certainly not enough to scrape over hundreds of dollars per year for team merchandise and to be gouged by DirecTV with NFL Sunday Ticket (though I have HD, I refused to pay an additional $100 for NFL Stupidfan). The only reason I pay to watch football is for the BUFFALO Bills. -
B. Edwards traded from cleveland to the Jets
Red replied to IHFO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My thoughts are two-fold: 1.) Great. Now are division just got even tougher. and 2.) Why are the Bills content to stand pat with their current mediocrity, and not making any moves? Chambers s-u-c-k-s. Bell may produce, but currently he is out with a groin injury. I believe Scott to be a serviceable backup. But RT needs to be improved. Runyan (not based on name recognition, guys) should have been inked the Monday after Butler went down. If the team is trying to save face by not bringing back Walker at RT (who would atleast be better than the turnstile Chambers), I would say "GET OVER IT!" You had the brilliant move last year of attempting to trade away DT McCargo, only to have the trade with the Colts nixed because of back issues (Newman!). That has seemed to have been water under the bridge. Why would Walker at RT not be a viable option? Hey- it looks like the Raiders (his pre-Bills team) are bringing him in for a tryout. Why can't we? Why is Derrick Brooks still out there in light of Poz's injury and the uncertainty of Ellison's ability? What, he wouldn't be productive for a season or two? Bring some life to the team? Hello? -
Nice, but what is with the whole puffy lip thing in pictures these days? Ruins what is a pretty nice package.

I had her scouted more as a tight end

Oh, just shut up! I don't think any Peters "haters" hate his ability. What we hate, and indeed what I believe the Bills grew tired of as well, was a former undrafted college TE-turned- Pro Bowl LT BY THE BILLS ORGANIZATION, refusing to cooperate with a team first mentality 2 years in a row while demanding a top-tier free agent contract 2 YEARS PRIOR TO HIS OWN CONTRACT EXPIRING, which he also happened to have signed under his own cognition. His me-first mentality offset the salary structure of the team and the team concept as a whole. Indeed, the Patriots would have let him walk too.

I am also a Gruden lover and feel that the Bills organization as a whole could use a Chucky shot in the a$$. Jauron is too much of a nice guy. And for all of those critics of Gruden not babying his players...I don't seem to recall Parcells giving a rats beehind about an athletes frail ego. He is doing an oustanding job on MNF and if he wasn't going to go back to coaching, I really feel that he may be the eventual heir to Madden. Ooooo...there, I said it.
-
But he's a good pass catching tight end... (who went to the Robert Royal school of catching)

That is a tough list to choose one over another! I think any one of those guys would turn this team into a contender and atleast get it to the playoffs (sorry, Marty). I love Shanahan and Holmgren for their offensive prowess. These two men would get the Bills offense firing on all cylinders. Cowher, has the right attitude for this club, but his price tag makes him unrealistic and he does own a home in NC...the Panthers seem more a likely fit. Marty would also be a great coach (with Bills roots), but his continual ineptitude in the playoffs would have me looking at him as a last option. So, I voted for Gruden. Would Gruden ever come to frigid Buffalo after stints in Oakland and Tampa? Probably not. But I do agree with the players that this team has the best talent in quite some years, they just can't seem to finish. I think that Jauron's "nice guy" attitude may ultimately be to blame, and Gruden is the polar opposite. He would ride Trent so hard Trent would be afraid to go to the sidelines, and would prefer to stay on the field. He would push so many loafers and add that missing element of fire from this club. The horrifically sad truth is probably Bobby April. Last I recall, Gruden was canned in Tampa for being too hard on the players. For these Bills, I think it would be exactly what the doctor ordered.

Don't know. Rodgers clearly has developed, while Edwards continues to flounder. Lack of offensive line notwithstanding, Rodgers clearly is growing and demonstrating confidence not only in the pocket, but also as a player. Edwards is not. Are all defensive coordinators so brilliant and other squads so talented so as to take out both Evans AND Owens every week? The change to AVP was supposed to work wonders for letting Trent "loose"; and indeed, after the Patriots game Trent looked like a QB. But each week has now been a gradual decline in performance (for the whole team). Teams should be STARTING out rough and gradually improving and gaining momentum on what they can do well. Building, not subtracting. After 4 weeks now, is there anything that the Bills can claim to do well? Where are all of those screens used successfully against the Pats? The misdirections? The roll-outs? 2 years ago I don't think anybody would be saying Aaron Rodgers was better than anyone. In fact, prior to 2008 he was looking like an infamous bust of a first round draft pick. He compared more favorably to a David Carr or Rick Mirer than the leader he showed last year and is showing this one. His passes are crisp, on target, and he is decisive! Boy, I wish Edwards could regain that poise. My wife- who only passingly watches football- thinks that Trent is still suffering from that concussion he obtained versus the Cardinals last year. I dismissed her out of what I assumed was ignorance, but she might be right. Edwards has not been the same player since that injury. Was his confidence shot after the concussion? Is he "gun-shy"?

Why Jauron may be safe regardless
Red replied to Sisyphean Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're also forgetting about one of the most simple reasons to invest: RETURN on said investment. Ralph surely does not want to "sink" millions of dollars on an investment and not get something in return- even if it is solely to fill a position until a better candidate is available. Ralph invested $9 million in an individual who is supposed to have a return of so many wins, playoff berth's, etc. I don't think that he wants to let that investment walk away with nothing in return, either. I just don't think that Jauron will be the investment that ever delivers. -
I found this quote from Russ Brandon amazingly stupid
Red replied to todd's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sad to say, but bringing back Walker at RT might be a sensible option at this point. Chambers is BAD...really, really bad! Walker is the most familiar free agent Tackle familiar with the, uh...ahem, "offense" and could probably walk right into playing. -

It's funny, but the whole Langston Walker situation suddenly reminds me of John McCargo being traded and then brought back. -
If we lose to Cleveland when does Jauron get fired?
Red replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree but I don't. If you fire Jauron mid-season, who replaces him? If you say Bobby April, I will personally drive to your house, and crap down your chimney! And if someone outside the organization is brought in- which must happen- who in their right mind would want to inherit that baggage? My list of names (Gruden, Holmgren, and Shanahan) would probably prefer to wait until after the season is over to make the best decision on location possible. You also are forgetting to mention the 2 constants in all of this: Tom Modrak and John Guy. They need to go as well. -

Despite the $6 million price tag, I really feel sorry for TO. To come from a power like Dallas and have to suffer like this when it was expected that TO would be the answer to the offensive prayers it horrific. Didn't the offense only need a #2 receiver?
