Right on! Gruden will remain in broadcasting next year. Cowher will demand more than he is worth. Shanahan will probably go to Dallas or Washington. I like Holmgren and Schottenheimer. I will even say that Jim Harbaugh would be an intriguing prospect (and the only one I would consider not of Pro coaching experience).

Theory on why Jauron was fired this week
Red replied to fairfaxbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, those T-Bone worshipers need to take a long walk off of the Whirlpool Bridge. -
Amen, Erik. That is my dream as well. There have 2 more heads responsible for this decade of futility- Modrak and Guy. 2 more heads should roll...

Could Fewell be the next Mike Tomlin?
Red replied to Mike in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
just....STOP. Let's not get overly excited again, and rush out and renew season tickets, etc. There are atleast 2 more baffoons left in the front office that should also be shown the door, sooner rather than later. That would be Modrak & Guy -
WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW HEW!!!!!! Can it be?!?!?!?? Hopefully, an announcement will be made that Modrak and Guy will be next (fingers crossed)

So true. So true.

I love the proven NFL GM, but disagree that a "hot" coordinator would be the only option. You may be implying that most of the experienced and proven HC's out there like power. What proven NFL head coach does not? But there are limits to such power- that being an even more powerful GM. And methinks you neglect some of the better working relationships between coaches and GM's out there now, and possibly in the future: 1.) GM Bruce Allen with Gruden- worked in Tampa. Rumors have been linked that Allen may be the Bills target. I don't see Gruden leaving warm weather clubs, but perhaps Allen would be able to sway him. 2.) GM Floyd Reese with Fisher- big IF Fisher gets fired, as I agree that Adams blew more than his load last week (say $250,000 for an obscene gesture) and Fisher has the best antidote currently to the hotseat- winning! With that being said, the Titans have been a perennial tough team this decade, and Reese is largely credited as the man who built it. and finally, 3.) GM Ron Wolf with Holmgren- More big IF's, as Wolf is retired and Holmgren keeps making indications he wants to be a GM. But I digress. Holmgren has now come out and stated that he would love to return to coaching on the east coast. Redskins are out. Cleveland has rolled out the carpet, but I don't think he was meaning Cleveland when he stated east coast. I have a suspicion that he meant the Bills. Why? West Coast offense with Trent Edwards. Holmgren is a Walsh disciple. Walsh liked what he saw in Edwards. Holmgren has stated many times in the past how much he likes Lynch at RB. I would agree that Cowher is not going to work. I pray that another coordinator (read: gamble) is not selected, regardless of proven GM or not. And I do like the idea of Schottenheimer.

I hope that there is not a strike and that the 2 sides can come to an agreement before an uncapped year occurs. That being said, I hope that a new contract indeed keeps rookie salaries to a minimum, provides some sort of pension fund for retired veterans, and provides enough room for Ralph to stop pinching pennies in the front office and get a real Director of Scouting, a real Director of Pro Personnel, a real scouting department, and a real, PROVEN, football GM.

Hmmm...too many to recall. Though that Monday Night Dallas game still resonates with me... ...or how about the one season-ending, revenge game where Belicheat ran the score up to exactly 31-0 (to match the beat-down we issued to the Pats on the opening day that year of 31-0). I never more wanted to reach through the television, and punch Belicheat as after that game.

Love your idea, but no way Newsome leaves the Ravens. Would he leave to be GM?

Thank you, Jabber! Again, someone making sense that I can agree with

55-85 - Modrak & Guy's win loss record
Red replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thank you, jabber. When you look at the draft history and free agent history, it is equally as horrible. Losing those 2 remnants of the Donahoe era would be a HUGE first step towards bettering the club. Well, that,...and moving Brandon back to the circus where he belongs. -
Bud Adams flies the double bird at Bills
Red replied to timstep's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If it was intended to Modrak, Guy, and Brandon, then I second it! But on a serious note: there is no place for Chad 'I'm an idiot' Cinco and his antics, and this vulgarity from an owner is clearly unacceptable. Atleast $20,000 should fix it. Commish? -
Do it for the fans. Without us, this team is nothing.

...and GM. And Pro Personnel man. And Director of College Scouting... -
Yeah, I know that his unhappiness with not being more involved goes back a couple of seasons now, too. He just seems like so many of the things that made him great on punt returns have all now been scrapped. He never fumbles. He always gained positive yardage. And he always seemed smart in his decisions on when and where to field the ball. I don't disagree with the decision to bench him based upon his performance and his mouth, but why keep paying him millions to sit? What other reason could there be for such a dramatic reversal in performance?

In today's Buffalo News, the issue is that Owens and Reed saw something in the defense that Trent did not (surprise?). The frustration comes from having a blind QB.
-
On a side note, Nic Harris does look like a good pick. I just don't understand the meltdown of Parrish. He is the NFL leader in punt return yardage, and this season he all of sudden can't get past the first wave? He suddenly starts making mistakes with fielding the ball, and allows too many to be fielded by the opposing team inside the 10 yard line? I know that the NFL did away with the 3-man wedge block, but he evaporated this season. His constant griping about wanting to be a bigger part of the offense is what I am sure is keeping him off the field right now. His agent coming out and blasting the team has not helped. Does anyone else believe that Parrish was either trying or being coached (by Rosenhaus) to start performing horrible in order to get out of Buffalo by the trade deadline? When that didn't happen, then Rosenhaus comes out and blasts the organization. Now the organization deserves this, but isnt Parrish making like $3 million per season? Since there were no suitors at the trade deadline, why not leave him on punt returns and put him in on the 'Wildcat' offense or in some 4 receiver sets? Get your money's worth, because he will be gone after this season. I don't see why he is not on the field. I mean, publicly criticizing the team is unacceptable, but the Bills should have found ways to get him on the field more.

I can only hope that with all of us not caring, that none of you goes and buys season tickets next season unless real regime change occurs (and regime change is NOT defined as signing Michael Vick). This will be my last season of Sunday Ticket until we have a new front office, scouting department, and coaching staff. -
Yeah, I see the Jags as THE team that moves to Los Angeles when a stadium is built. They simply can't sell out the stadium, ever. Gruden has been on the West Coast before, and has also come out while in Tampa and expressed his love of Florida. There are way too many intangibles, though. Does Carolina stick with John Fox? I could see Gruden going to Carolina. And I wouldn't rule Gruden out in Buffalo- though fantasy-land as it may sound. Vic Carucci had posted in an NFL blog that the Bills will be looking at serious regime change this offseason. There was an earlier report about the Bills being interested in former Bucs GM Bruce Allen. If Bruce Allen came to Buffalo, I could see Gruden here. Holmgren has said that he wants to coach on the east coast, and is looking for GM duties. He has also come out prior to that and stated that he would like to handle GM duties in Seattle. One thing is for sure, Washington is out after his comments about how they handled the Zorn situation. Cleveland has said that Holmgren is their guy, but when he was speaking about wanting to coach on the east coast was he speaking about Cleveland? For some reason, and with him being a former Bill Walsh assistant, and having Walsh recommended Edwards to the Bills...just thinkin'...perhaps, PERHAPS he likes what he sees in Edwards and wants to come to the Bills? I can also see Schottenheimer in Buffalo. He has ties to the club having been a player, and his style of football would match the colder weather and attitude of Bills fans. I can't stand Brian Billick so please cease and desist with those ideas.

With the exception of Hardy, this is a lousy idea. What young guys? Why? What is Harris going to learn by allowing 200+ rushing yards per game (other than be risking injury by being worn down by the 4th quarter)? This team has really imploded this season. That's not TO, and that is not because they blew up the offensive line. The whole team takes way too many penalties, and does not play with any sort of unity. What has happened to our special teams? Why is Parrish riding the bench? This team seems so backwards in so many things. Do we really have to wait 7 more weeks for regime change?

The sad thing is, from the start of the game and from that first drive, Trent looked as I had hoped: basically that the second concussion set him straight. He looked more poised, more decisive, and we converted 3rd downs for probably the 2nd time this season. What happened after that 1st drive? Did the Titans adjust? The offense sputtered from that point on. I believe that Trent has the tools. But is he another California QB, more content to take it easy than play with any emotion like Rob Johnson, JP Losman, and Todd Marinovich? Trent was progressing last season, when the Bills were 4-0 and prior to the concussion. I still believe that Trent can perform- on the right club. I would like to see what he could do under 1 offensive coordinator for a few seasons, with a better offensive line, and overall team. The Bills need organizational shake-up. Starting at the top. A real GM needs to come in, and a no-nonsense football coach. If the team is a reflection of the coach, then perhaps Edwards laissez-faire attitude is a reflection of Jauron and the directionless front office. I'd like to see Edwards perform in a real West Coast-style offense like a Mike Holmgren would run, or a smash-mouth, high precision attack like Schottenheimer would bring.

What have you got against Bryd? Jackson? Schobel? Surround them with better talent, and you'll see what I am referring to.

Decline the holding penalty late in the game?
Red replied to Talley56's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know. This is one of those decisions that you can go either way with. Vince Young and Johnson were ripping off 15 yard gains. The D was getting pushed back too far, missing tackles and showing some signs of fatigue. If you give them the ball, I think Jauron saw the signs in our defense, and figured settling for 3 was probably better than allowing the Titans to attempt (and probably convert) for a 1st down/ touchdown. I thought it was odd at the time, and right out of the Jauron-coach-not-to-lose philosophy book. I guess he was thinking do we want to spot them 3 or possibly 7? I personally don't feel you should spot a team any points, but I'm not the coach of the Bills. -

Yeah, I believe that this is a natural course of emotions we are going through. I think the next phase will be indifference to the point that no one will pay for it. I hope Ralph gets it before then.
