  1. I don't think Levitre is the answer at LT. After what I hope is regime change this offseason, I hope our #1 goes to a real, anchor of a future Pro Bowl LT. I think Levitre was a good pick, just not the LT that all playoff teams have.
  2. Well, I am CERTAINLY not defending the current front office. But look at the injuries at the position of RT. Butler, the starter is injured and out for the year. Scott then fills in. Chambers is brought back after having been waived to protect against injury. Scott is then injured. Chambers (ahem) fills in. Meredith is signed. Meredith then steps up. Gets injured. Chambers is back. I thought the decision to can Chambers was the right one. But in this case, at this position, THIS year, there have been attempts. Langston Walker I believe was signed by the Raiders. Who is available?
  3. Perhaps you don't understand the concept of TEAM? How many interceptions does Bryd have this year? Where does Schobel stand on the Bills history of sacks? You question Fred Jackson? I was not implying that the names mentioned were good enough to be a team, rather, I was stating that should actual REGIME CHANGE occur, then those are good names to build around. A team is not a collection of individuals.
  4. In all reality, you are right. I will only take exception to your argument that "Bill-ieving" during those Super Bowl years is an embarrassment. Sure, in a winner-takes-all culture, not winning a trophy would classify one as a "loser". But for a fan of the team, to have a shot each year to take home the trophy, and their yearly dominance of the AFC, was worth it. After that, I could not agree more with you. May I introduce into evidence that perhaps this is why Wilson felt so comfortable handing the reins (atleast in part) to 'Barnum & Bailey' Brandon. No matter how pathetic the product, somehow the sizzle sold by the marketing department fills the seats. I think at some level it may be criminal; as clearly the customers are being taken advantage of with the desire for football being quenched with the equivalent of liquid charcoal. They sell alot of sizzle, but instead of steak all we have been getting for the past decade is a withered lettuce leaf.
  5. Here's to regime change, my brother
  6. I did think that the offense, before the game unravelled, was improved. Trent was converting 3rd downs. I'll take that as progress. B-a-b-y s-t-e-p-s... Defensively, I think they played their hearts out. Owens quit. Should be waived. Fred Jackson, Poz, Schobel, McGee, Stroud, and Bryd are studs. Ah heck, I think Wood will be too. Evans and Lynch are respectable. And let's not forget our perennial Pro Bowl punter. Other than that, its kind of rough. How do you spell regime change?
  7. You are right. Like a some lunatic, I keep subscribing to NFL Sunday Ticket, even though I am far removed from the Bills market area, I still find a way to spend my $$ on such a headless, directionless team. Perhaps my boycott, starting now, of any future subscriptions (unless regime change occurs this offseason) will help.
  8. Gannon's assessment of TO's body language were spot on. I seem to remember some other a-hole, under the Levy regime, who admitted, after a loss to I believe the Saints, that he had not studied the playbook. The name Billy Jo, Hobert...something like that comes to mind. The next day, Levy sent him packing. TO has quit. What is it, Week 9? He should be benched. If not benched, then waived. Wrong attitude and body language for a professional. This guy supposedly played with Jerry Rice?!!? But maybe his tirade's will help. Maybe it will take Jauron and this joke of a front office out of their comfort zone and expose them for what they are. Here's to regime change!
  9. Can we please stop with the QB talk? We need REGIME CHANGE so that we can finally draft a QB who will play and WIN.
  10. You can't fault Poz. The Titans RB is logged in running faster than Lee Evans in the 40 yard dash.
  11. AMEN! A TOTAL house cleaning, starting with the front office, scouting department, and pro personnel department, followed by the coaching staff and roster. Bring it on! This is really my only hope for the club anymore...
  12. I like the thought (though methinks you make a major mistake by overlooking the Ringleader of the circus at OBD- Brandon), but I agree with others that the bye week would have been the time. At this point, I don't think there would be any reason not to take Ralph at his word. This past offseason, Ralph declared playoffs or bust. Well, I realize that playoffs are probably not realistic, so we can say that Ralph will stick it out until the end of the year before letting Jauron (AND Guy, and Modrak) go.
  13. My only hope, amidst all of this manure, is that Vic Carucci is right, and that major regime and roster change is coming to the team this offseason. Until then, my money is best left in my account. This is not entertainment. It is punishment.
  14. I don't see where that can be concluded. TO quit today, but Jauron just isn't good enough. Modrak and Guy are not good enough. We are seeing the fruits of GM-by-committee. I don't know how you could look at the effort that the defense once again put out today, and say that they ever quit. The only problem with that, is that even though the offense was improved, the undersized defense wore out, yet again. That's not quit. That's pure physical exhaustion.
  15. I can see a 5-11. Don't know how or where those 2 victories will come from, but I see 5-11. And I pray that Carucci is right.
  16. I'll always follow the Bills. But I will no longer pay hard-earned dollars through NFL Sunday Ticket until a real GM and coach are brought in. This was supposed to be the year of the playoffs. I personally don't see how you blow up your entire offensive line and then expect the playoffs, but what do I know? And 'Barnum & Bailey' Brandon needs to not get too full of himself. After the Cleveland loss, and when asked about the future of Jauron he played coy and acted as if he was innocent claiming that the front office basically did everything that they could do to improve the offense. Nice distancing maneuver, but Bills fans should not rest until the circus leaves town, a real GM, coach, pro personnel department, and scouting staff are in place. I do like Buddy Nix for starters...
  17. Now that's a ridiculous statement. I'll take bad over bad? I think JP had a few more turnovers than Edwards, friend-o. He also tended to hold onto the ball wayyytoo long as he stared at his receiver, waiting for him (Evans) to get open. Oh, and did I mention that he fumbled at the most inopportune times?
  18. I think that what the organization said this offseason- playoffs or bust- is still the gold standard. If Jauron fails to make the playoffs this season, he will be gone. Now- my prayer is for what Carucci was just saying- that being that if the Bills fail to make the playoffs this season it will also mean wholesale changes to the roster, coaching staff, AND at the position of GM and front office. Then, and only then, will this team begin to improve.
  19. No, but I saw London Fletcher down here in Ashburn, VA at our local Wegmans. Proves you can take the man out of Buffalo but not Buffalo out of the man. Miss 'ya, London.
  20. Exactly. Which is why when the proverbial boobs (not the good kind) on this site call for Vick, or some "hot" coordinator as the solution to our ills, I can't help but . How can they be so simple-minded as to think that the head coach is drafting the players, pursuing and signing free agents, and is solely responsible for the collapse and mediocrity of a once great team? Clearly, the very STRUCTURE at OBD is not working. You can't have GM-by-committee, and you can't allow a man more suited to be a circus promoter in Russ 'Barnum & Bailey' Brandon make the football decisions. Modrak and Guy have been there through 2 (3 if you count the ringmaster) GMs, 3 head coaches, and how many different QB's? The players have all changed. The coaches have all changed this decade. Yet somehow, and with the exception of Ralph, the only 2 constants have been in the talent department: Tom Modrak and John Guy. Why would signing Vick be the answer with the same incompetent personnel people calling the shots? No experienced, outside observer can identify the Bills PLAN for improvement. I forget his name, but that former GM on the NFL Network has come out and publicly questioned if there even is a plan in place at OBD. As has agent Drew Rosenhaus (agent of TO and Parrish) as of late. Tim Graham over at ESPN commented on exactly the same thing. Now Vic Carucci appears to have something that may prove that Ralph is not brain-dead, after all. They cannot identify a plan because currently, with the circus running the talent show, there is no plan other than to sell out the stadium- by any means necessary. Losing Jauron will help. We need a real offense. I am convinced that the 'Tampa 2' and its emphasis on undersized players is outdated. We need more than just a team of excellent special teamers, which is really all that Modrak and Guy have proved capable of building. A real, experienced, PROVEN football man is needed at GM/ President. Modrak, Guy, and Jauron need to be fired. Nix needs to be promoted. Brandon should go back to marketing and the business side of things. And then Ralph needs to settle down, and let the football people do what they do best. Until those changes take place, no personnel moves with this current regime in place will make any difference, whatsoever.
  21. Are you nuts?!!?!?!? A mistake is a one-time thing. "Ooops. Letting Pat Williams go was a mistake." Decisions made on Antoine Winfield, Jason Peters, London Fletcher AND Pat Williams are more than "mistakes". Darwin Walker, Langston Walker, Derrick Dockery, Robert Royal, Larry Triplett. Those are not mistakes. That is poor decision making. Between the years 2000-2005, the Bills drafted 50 players. 50! How many are still with the team? 6. This decade, Buffalo has had 12 first round picks. 6 are still with the team, 2 are questionable or on the way out (Whitner and McCargo, respectively), leaving 5 as worthy (Evans, Lynch, Wood, McElvin, and Maybin). That is horrible! Consistent horror! The people currently in charge are not capable of their position. Bye-bye, Modrak and Guy!
  22. Man, this post, the very idea that Ralph is not the East Coast version of Al Davis and out-of-touch and is actually paying attention and realizes that he overreacted after Donahoe left...makes my day! This is the news I have been waiting for a long time. There ARE too many proven guys out there to pass up. The Bills NEED this. People who KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING and have been there before are what this team needs. I'm tired of 2,3, or 5 year auditions of unproven, "hot" coordinators in the hopes that they come to fruition, because the Bills have been horrible predicting their selections. Thank you Vic Carucci!
  23. Don't like the GM's, and enough of coordinators given the reins. Mularkey, Williams, and Jauron are enough! I want Super Bowl winners at the GM level and HC level. Give me Bruce Allen, Floyd Reese, Ron Wolf or even Holmgren/ Shanahan in a coach/ GM role. I want Gruden, Shottenheimer, Holmgren or Shanahan as head coach. Whoever they want as assistants is up to them.
  24. Now, some of these ideas are great, but the sixth- hire Mike Mayock- borders on pure lunacy. What some guy says on TV translates little to actually performing in the position and succeeding. I watched that Bills/ Titans game on the NFL Network this morning, and have to agree that the 'Tampa 2' defense is done. Its reliance on undersized, quick athletes has seen its time. Give me a solid 3-4, move Maybin to a pass rushing OLB and let it be. The D needs to get bigger over all, and a change in defense would help. Scrap the 'Tampa 2'! Modrak and Guy have got to go. A real team president/ GM is exactly what is needed. The Bills front office have been chasing their collective tails this past decade, with no apparent plan in place to build a contender. No matter who is at head coach, a real GM is needed to BUILD the team. Russ 'Barnum & Bailey' Brandon is more interested in obtaining circus side shows (Owens, Vick) to sell seats than BUILD a winning team. They need to have a united plan, then they can go about restructuring the roster towards improvement. Buddy Nix is back with the Bills, and just in time. He should assume Modrak's post as Director of College Scouting and be allowed to bring in his own people to the scouting staff. The only downside ofcourse, is that it will take a full year to see the fruits of those labors since we are currently still under the Modrak regime. An improved scouting staff and talent evaluators is sorely needed, as I have oft-mentioned on this board that between the years 2000-2005, 6 full seasons and with 50 draft picks, only 6 players are still with the team. That is horrendous. Buffalo's 1st round picks this decade have been equally as horrible, with maybe Evans, Lynch, McElvin, Maybin, and Wood earning praise. That's 5 picks out of 12 picks this decade. A horrible waste of picks, and clearly setting the team back. Again, it is clear that our evaluators are terrible. Jon Gruden would be a welcome addition. I like the Allen/ Gruden idea. I also like Floyd Reese, and Ron Wolf. Shottenheimer and 'Marty-ball' would be a great idea for a cold weather stadium like Buffalo. Shanahan would too, but I see him going to a Dallas. Holmgren is also interesting. A Wolf/ Holmgren combo should also work. The only thing that I would add to this, is that the time is now to get some proven people in both the front office and the coaching staff. The time is over for "hot" coordinators, unproven college coaches, or the Cleveland ball-boy. Ralph overreacted by not putting a real football GM in place after Donahoe was fired. Hopefully, he realizes his folly now. I like the idea of bringing Rusty Jones back. While he was running the conditioning program, Buffalo was one of the top 3 league leaders in fitness and overall team conditioning. I hated to see him leave. At issue is that Jones is a native of Chicago, and is currently with the Bears. Could we talk him into returning? I'd love to see a grass field. Something much more fundamentally elemental about grass over turf. I'm sure that this is a cost saving measure by Ralph, though. If selling the naming rights of the stadium would bring in the extra revenue to change to grass and field a real GM and coaching staff, than I am with it too.
  25. Just watched it (again). Some interesting observations: - It was obvious that this was the beginning of the end of the glory years. Though Thomas, Smith, and Reed were still on this team, pieces of greatness had long since chipped off and transition was clearly in place. - I really think that it is time that the current Bills scrap this 'Tampa 2' defense. The reliance on undersized players IMO really serves to undermine the overall ability to stop most NFL offenses. Tampa does not play it anymore, and the Colts are successful because Manning is so d@mn good, not for any defensive prowess. The 'Tampa 2' had its time- in Tampa- but now the league has moved on. The Bills were always a solid 3-4 defense. Ted Cottrell had players tackling (and wrapping up), as they rose to the #1 defense in the league. No special gimmicks. Just pin your ears back and go. And the LB's were bigger. Maybe when Jauron is fired, they can take the outdated and undersized 'Tampa 2' with them. - Benching Flutie was boneheaded. - Johnson did not look too bad in this game. It was obvious (familiar theme here?) that the injuries to the offensive line and its makeshift nature caused alot of problems. I'm so confused with Bills QB's. I know that Johnson had many flaws, but he did sure hit alot of receivers for nice, quick gains in this game. Now, the receivers caught the ball, but he seemed more decisive than Trentative. - I miss Antoine Winfield and Pat Williams. - This was the last time that Bills had competent people in the front office and there was a difference between that team and the Bills squads of the past 9 years. Those Bills looked like they belonged on a professional football field. There was a swagger. An attitude. Alot of this may have been because of those Bills greats still on the team, but they played with much more confidence that this bunch. - I'm sick of Jauron, Modrak, and Guy (can't get an post in without mentioning that). - Will the Bills ever reach the playoffs again?
