  1. the salary cap in not a crock....it is the single greatest factor in parity and competitiveness....having said that, the league and players are looking to tighten up what you would call loopholes or shananigans: In previous seasons with a salary cap, there had never been a requirement that clubs had to spend a minimum amount of cash. The salary cap floor applied only to the salary cap — not cash spent – and thus included “dead money” including prorated money from bonuses paid in earlier years of player contracts and money that was accelerated from future years for players no longer with that club. Under last week’s proposal, such “dead money” would not be counted in the minimum cash guarantee ensuring that actual cash would be paid to players each season. http://nfllabor.com/2011/03/18/pash-proposal-to-players-offered-unprecedented-90-percent-of-salary-cap-in-cash/

  5. One of the expected outcomes of any new NFL-NFLPA collective bargaining agreement is the re-institution of the NFL salary cap, because of it's value to overall league parity. We can safely estimate that the 2011 NFL salary cap (or 2012 NFL salary cap if there is no 2011 season) at somewhere between $130-$140 million per team. The Bills are currently at approx $88 million for 2011. The Bills will be $40 - 50 million under the cap. They will probably be required to spend most of it. http://www.rotoworld.com/teams/contracts/nfl/buf/buffalo-bills ** these are the players listed as of today on the Buffalo Bills active roster: Player Position 2011 Cap and/or Salary (ESTIMATED !!!!) 8. Greg Brady from SportsNet Radio in Toronto is reporting that the Buffalo Bills will play the Philadelphia Eagles either November 13th or 20th in Toronto. There is a possibility that the Bills could play on Thanksgiving this year as the Dallas Cowboys game is schedule to be carried by CBS this year, which means the opponent must be either Buffalo or Miami. http://wgr550.com/NFL-Schedule-to-be-Released-today--Bills-to-play-E/9647620

Newton: “Um.” “Gimme something,” Gruden said. “What’s an Auburn play sound like?” “I mean, you’re putting me on the — on the spot,” Newton said. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/04/18/jon-gruden-puts-cam-newton-on-the-spot/
  12. PRO - peterson is the "safest" pick in the draft.....most likely to be a star in this league five years down the road......with his size and speed, he would make for a pro bowl Strong Safety, if for some reason he struggles at corner. CON - Bills draft another DB ?.....we need defensive front 7 help.

  14. NFL teams today have two principle revenue sources, shared revenues and retained revenues. Shared revenue is income shared more or less equally between the 32 NFL teams, with the bulk coming from national broadcast rights fees, augmented by a share of ticket sales, non-network media income and licensing. Retained revenue (or unshared revenue) is revenue generated and kept by individual teams. This includes about two thirds of the gate receipts, luxury suite revenues, stadium naming rights, sponsorships, concessions, parking fees and any local broadcast revenues. http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2011/2/21/2004505/nfl-lockout-2011-revenue-gap-problem

  19. FACT: Players get credited for a full season after being on the active roster (or on injured reserve or the physically unable to perform list) in three regular season games. you said "80 or so players go to training camp. 27 are cut before opening day. Few of those make another final roster. This happenes every year. They are counted in the "average career of an NFL player"." THIS STATEMENT IS FALSE !! https://www.nflplayercare.com/ http://blog.nflalumniassociation.com/2011/02/24/knowing-the-nfl-benefits-and-if-you-qualify/ argueing why players get cut is a waste of time.....there are many many reasons besides talent. specifically, someone who is almost or just as good is cheaper (dollars/value)and injuries(a player who is more talented , but can't stay on the field, gets replaced).
  20. Players not in any hurry.... For veteran players, Ross Tucker says missing training camp is “the dream”. “People talk about it all the time: What is the hard and fast deadline?” Tucker asked. “Well, when a vast majority of your membership doesn’t really even want to go to training camp, they don’t want to go to two-a-days, ideally for them it would get resolved, I don’t know, August 10th. We have a week of free agency. Then August 17th we have two or three weeks of preseason and then play the season. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/04/13/for-veteran-players-ross-tucker-says-missing-training-camp-is-the-dream/
  21. If the parties would rather take their shot for litigation, you could make them sit there forever and there still won't be an outcome," said Seth Borden, a labor law expert at McKenna, Long and Aldridge in New York. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=6336516
  22. that is correct.....and the players NEVER requested "binding" mediation...... LINK SAYS: U.S. District Court Judge Susan Nelson, who is presiding in St. Paul over the players' antitrust suit against the league, issued an order forcing the two sides to resume mediation beginning on Thursday in Minnesota and appointed Chief Magistrate Judge Arthur Boylan to preside over the talks. The move was something of a win for the players' side since they wanted the talks to resume in federal court.
  23. NOWHERE in your link does it say the players want BINDING mediation.....NOWHERE !!! ADAM SHEFTER SAYS: The NFLPA wants a court-supervised settlement discussion in Minnesota(WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY GOT)in which Nelson would appoint someone to lead talks that potentially could be more binding than any in Washington. (don't see how you call that a victory for the owners). again, there is no such thing as potentially "more binding" it either is fully binding or it's non-binding....there is no middle ground.
