  1. Nix on the merits of trading down: “We are open to trade down,” Nix said in a Tele-forum with Bills season ticket holders last week. “I’m not sure that that’s always the answer. If there’s a guy you really want at your pick, you better take him. If you think you can trade down and still get the guy you want, a lot of times you’re disappointed. And just because you want to trade down and get extra picks it takes two to do that, and a lot of times there are not a lot of teams willing to move up.” “I think the thing is when you start considering that you might trade down if the opportunity presented itself and the guy you wanted was gone, you have to figure up to 10,” said Nix. “I wouldn’t want to drop any further down than in the top 10. You have to figure nine or 10 prospects that you’d be wanting to have. If you go offense the first pick, who is the defensive guy that will be there? If you go defense with the first pick then you need at least two or three choices in the second round because they might not all be there.” “If you have a guy that you’re dead set on getting you better take him and not move down thinking you can get him at number seven because you might not and then you don’t have the player,” he said. “If that’s the case with us, if there’s a guy there that we think we’re dead set on we’re going to take him.” http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-2/Nix-on-the-merits-of-trading-down/61f05367-fb60-4ab5-98dc-7d232dae8e04
  2. laffin....your just determined to call bullchit on poor Russ.... well, statement #1- all season ticket account holders have their tickets mailed to them with something called an address. it's also a very useful tool in tracking your customers. statement #2 - most single game tickets are purchased using a credit card, when the buffalo bills or ticketmaster take those orders, an address is also required. seeing as most games are sellouts (approx 6 of 8) there is very little "walk up" ticket sales paid in cash.
  3. STATEMENT #1- "After three years of that experience, we've had a 44 percent increase in season-ticket holders from Southern Ontario to One Bills Drive," Brandon said (talking about season ticket holders ONLY). STATEMENT #2- "At Ralph Wilson Stadium on any given Sunday, close to 15 percent of your fan base is from Rochester, and 15 percent of your fan base is from Southern Ontario," Brandon said. "That's how we make it work." In a crowd of 70,000, that equals about 10,000 fans from Rochester and about 10,000 from Southern Ontario. (that would be season ticket holders AND single game purchases)70,000 times 15% = 10,500.....and growing...lol
  4. THIS IS TOTAL CRAP....just more dumping on buffalo.....clearly we should be 31st worst....wash 32nd. i'm not letting anyone kick us around.
  5. this is probably total crap....but just for funsies....i would do that deal. .... if Kolb was in this draft, he'd go first overall.... plus #23 & #54......
  6. i'm going bold.......former consensus #1 overall....BOWERS......and most of the first round QB's.
  7. 10,000 fans and growing, from southern ontario coming to the Ralph every game......it's a beautiful thing....
  8. see....the marketing effort is working......imagine when the bills are a playoff team.
  9. there's an "app" for that: http://wgr2xlrt.itm-staging.com/pages/8637301.php?
  10. i like tebow....but i would NOT give up the #34th pick for him.
  11. teams have been notified that they trade future picks AT THEIR OWN RISK......nothing is certain as to wether a draft will continue or be declared illegal through the courts. teams have also been notified that once this years picks have been made, they may not trade that drafted player. it is ok to trade this years draft picks BEFORE the selection has been made.
  12. The 58-year-old Susan Richard Nelson is no stranger to the spotlight or to complex cases. The native of Buffalo, N.Y., has 22 years of litigation experience, and from 1994 through 1998 she worked with Ciresi and others in a landmark antitrust case against the tobacco industry - winning a $6.1 billion settlement for the state of Minnesota. 13. Bills trying to find ways to raise their profile in Toronto JAMES CHRISTIE Toronto Globe and Mail Published Friday, Apr. 01, 2011 9:47PM EDT The NFL team brought its marketing staff to Toronto this week to meet with four teams of MBA students at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management to the University of Toronto, looking for ideas that will make the Bills Toronto Series a success. Among the attractive ideas were creating a group of dedicated supporters, a la Andrew Boguts efforts to create a rooting section at Milwaukee Bucks basketball games (he gives out 100 lower-level seats to chanting, screaming, wig-wearing fans who have auditioned to create some atmosphere as Squad 6); the idea of overcoming Ontarios liquor laws by substituting the typical NFL tailgate parties with special wing-fest nights at a chain of bars and restaurants; the idea of sending Torontos NFL fans to Buffalo games by bundling Bills tickets with discount nights at a Niagara-area casino and hotel, so attending a game becomes a weekend event and not just a one-time ordeal of waiting at the border. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/bills-trying-to-find-ways-to-raise-their-profile-in-toronto/article1968156/ P.S.- the Bills should try to sign a player from the canadian league or one who was born in canada.....
  14. the economic key to buffalo's success is a regionalization approach to TOURISM between buffalo and niagara falls. new money from outside visitors. we already have the Falls....in Buffalo, along the waterfront build a new world class Convention Center, a world class aquarium and move/build a world class Zoo there too.
  15. picking a perfect ncaa basketball bracket is easier than correctly picking the first round of the NFL draft(especially with al davis picking). btw: Jeffrey Burgen, a DePaul University math professor, did the arithmetic and figured that, with 68 teams in a single-elimination bracket, there are more than 147 quintillion ways to fill out a bracket. That’s 147 with 18 zeroes. 147,000,000,000,000,000,000 Odds of being struck by lightning in a given year (estimated total deaths + injuries) 1/500,000 Odds of being struck in your lifetime (Est. 80 years) 1/6250
  16. #1- Jim Kelly was a dog. his infidelities are legendary. there are so many stories i could tell....suffice it to say, he was aggresive in his pursuit and there were many a willing lady to satisfy. from an RV in his driveway to his own nightclub...it was easy pickings. #2- Jill is a saint.... #3- i'm sure the book is therapeutic for them.......for me, it is very sad. #4- if they are able to come out of this with a renewed and more meaningful relationship....good for them.
  17. The NCAA's new president is adamant that, on his watch, there'll be no straying from college athletics' most time-honored tenet: "It's grossly unacceptable and inappropriate to pay players … converting them from students to employees," Mark Emmert says. Emmert acknowledges it's time for a serious discussion about whether and how to spread a little more of the largesse to those doing the playing and sweating. "The sooner, the better," Emmert says. He's not thinking big. Maybe bump up the value of players' scholarships by a few thousand dollars to take care of travel, laundry and other typical college expenses that aren't covered now.
  18. Marty's responses went the gamut.....first he was quoted by several sources claiming he did not want the job. then he was quoted as saying he "was not likely to get the job" (code for he is interested). http://www.wgrz.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=73279&catid=4 then he was quoted as wanting the job: http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/9487/marty-schottenheimer-wanted-bills-gig
  19. just because only one model graces the cover of SI's swimsuit edition....doesn't make the other girls ugly. for reasons best known to Buddy, he felt Gailey was better than Marty. I'm sure Buddy still thinks highly of Marty.
  20. well, a 44% increase in sales is SIGNIFICANT....the Bills can take credit for their "regionalization" approach which is a combination of many "marketing initiatives"....just like moving training camp to rochester to raise awareness and interest from the folks in that area......moving games to Toronto to raise awareness and interest from southern ontario is "key" in bringing these folks to the Ralph. Thru various paid media advertising (print, tv & radio), free content and coverage in local newspapers. MORE FANS FROM CANADA ARE COMING TO THE RALPH....that's a fact. if you want to poo poo that success at the Ralph by pointing out a significant number of "empty" seats for official sell outs in the Rogers Centre, that is your right, but to me, that is a seperate arguement.
  21. The Buffalo Bills say their annual excursions to Toronto are helping to grow their fan base in Southern Ontario. Bills Chief Executive Officer Russ Brandon told a crowd of fans Monday that the team continues to see concrete positive results from the five-year, eight-game deal it signed with Rogers Communications in 2008. "After three years of that experience, we've had a 44 percent increase in season-ticket holders from Southern Ontario to One Bills Drive," Brandon said. "That's been the key, how the fans come from there, back to Ralph Wilson Stadium, come to our community and keep our organization viable and strong. That is the key to that relationship."
  22. #1- they are sellouts...plain and simple. http://www.bizjournals.com/buffalo/stories/2009/11/30/daily12.html http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Daily/Issues/2010/11/Issue-41/Franchises/Bills-Sell-Out-Rogers-Centre-But-Lack-Home-Field-Advantage.aspx #2- you are correct about the 18 games in current offer.....but that may or may not be in the final offer. what is certain, is that they will be looking for ways to increase revenue....and playing 18 games over 20 weeks with 2 byes is the best way to accomplish that. when the players get "theirs" they will agree. time will tell. btw, in the 2006 cba, the players already agreed to an 18 game schedule. #3- the NFL plays regular season games in London, England and Mexico city......heck, the NY Jets and NY Giants play ALL their home games in another state. Green Bay used to play games in Milwaukee.
  23. #1- defacto, each game is a sellout....the bills have all the money in their pockets. #2- defacto, each game is a sellout....no blackout. #3- any season ticket holder will tell you that there are lots of empty seats for all December games at the Raplh. #4- you do bring up a valid point tho....actual attendance in Toronto is a concern. the game is new, ticket prices are very high, the bills are a losing team.....all correctable.
  24. San Diego finished 9-7 and out of the playoffs last year. i believe Buddy was a strong Marty Schottenheimer supporter. i'm pretty sure that A.J. Smith hired Turner.
