NFL’s breast cancer awareness effort is making a difference
papazoid replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is an ongoing debate over what impact the pinking of America truly has on the epidemic of breast cancer in this country but before you weigh in, read this email, sent to the New York Jets two days ago: Name: Tina A Subject: Community Relations Message: Last year October I was watching a Jets game and noticed the pink the team was wearing. I didn’t know why and asked my husband. He said it was for breast cancer awareness. That night for the first time ever I gave myself a self breast exam. You guys saved my life! I am a 34 year old mother of 3 and I was diagnosed 2 weeks later with breast cancer. The outcome had I not seen that game and the players wearing pink would have more than likely been tragic because the cancer had already started to spread and was making its way toward my lymph nodes. I just wanted to say thank you, and to let you know that your efforts in creating breast cancer awareness work. I am living proof. It is a year later and I am here and cancer free. I underwent chemo and radiation and I am here thanks to you. Sincerely, Tina A, Staten Island, NY parenting mag:How awesome is that? It gives me the chills. My sister and I are both moms and cancer survivors (lymphoma and leukemia, respectively) so it hit particularly close to home. Say what you will about the NFL but three kids in Staten Island still have their mom to tuck them in tonight because a bunch of dudes ran around in pink cleats. http://www.parenting...ved-womans-life -

The first step in recovery is to admit you have a problem.... -
a tip of the hat, to you sir !! Twelve seasons without the playoffs, with losing records the last seven, might have discouraged many a Bills fan. Not Kenny Johnson of Rochester. Today will be the 300th straight Bills game, home and away, Pinto Kenny will have attended. As far as anyone knows, that’s a Bills and NFL record. If not, it’s still a remarkable achievement. Johnson does not drive the Pinto, which has logged 186,000 miles, to every game from Rochester. He parks the Pinto in Orchard Park at the start of the season and brings it home when the season ends. Each game he drives his 1998 Buick Regal to a location not far from the stadium, then shuttles the Pinto to the Hammer Lot on Abbott Road, across from One Bills Drive. At 6 a.m. on game day, he starts preparing for a good old Buffalo tailgate party. http://www.buffalonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20121020/SPORTS/121029889/two-bills-drive

According to Parenting.com, a Staten Island woman noticed last year the pink accents while her husband was watching a Jets game. She asked about the presence of the color, he told her that the NFL is promoting breast cancer awareness. “That night for the first time ever I gave myself a self breast exam,” the woman informed the Jets this week via email. “You guys saved my life! I am a 34 year old mother of 3 and I was diagnosed 2 weeks later with breast cancer. The outcome had I not seen that game and the players wearing pink would have more than likely been tragic because the cancer had already started to spread and was making its way toward my lymph nodes.” http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/10/20/nfls-breast-cancer-awareness-effort-is-making-a-difference/

he left because San Diego offered more money... Robert Meachum is ranked 93rd in yards and 131st in receptions this season. Dwayne Bowe is ranked 17th in yards and 11th in receptions this season. i agree with the first sentence......but what is useless is passing on any and all other oppurtunities to improve the team.

How's Aaron Maybin been doing?
papazoid replied to Wayne Fontes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
outside linebacker Aaron Maybin was fined $7,875 for elbowing Luck after Luck had already been knocked to the ground. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/10/19/jets-maybin-coples-fined-for-hits-on-andrew-luck/ -
best O line ??.....very subjective..... here's one ranking that has us 13th: 13. Buffalo Bills LT: Cordy Glenn LG: Andy Levitre* C: Eric Wood* RG: Chad Rinehart* RT: Erik Pears* Top reserves: OT Chris Hairston, OG Kraig Urbik*, OT Sam Young, OT Zebrie Sanders Overview: The Bills' 2011 offensive line graded out as the NFL's top pass-protecting unit, according to both Pro Football Focus and Football Outsiders. Though no doubt assisted by Ryan Fitzpatrick's quick release, Buffalo allowed a league-low 23 sacks, which is another strong vote for the argument that elite left tackle play isn't necessarily a difference-making NFL quality. The Bills feel they improved on the left by stealing Glenn with the 41st pick in the draft, and bring back incumbent Hairston as a talented, tested backup. Similar players Urbik and Rinehart will vie for the right guard job. Wood is returning from a torn right ACL, but should be close to 100 percent by camp and has been a dominant center when healthy. While this group lacks household names, its combination of continuity, athleticism, and impressive scheming makes it quietly a top O-Line. http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/40484/179/2012-offensive-line-rankings?pg=2

The league has also placed limits on the number of full-contact padded practices during the regular season. Teams are permitted a total of 14 for the year with 11 of those practices conducted during the first 11 weeks of the season (a maximum of one per week). Tackling could suffer. Defensive coaches are worried about the prospect of shoddy tackling without full-speed contact drills on a consistent basis. Although defenders have spent years crafting their skills, the frenetic pace of the game requires players to work on proper angles and tackling fundamentals regularly. Granted, some defenses have been able to flourish without banging daily, but it's hard to replicate the tempo, aggressiveness and angle discipline needed without contact.

enough already with the hot pink

think pink.... breast CANCER AWARENESS !! if it was only one week, we probably wouldn't be talking about it (therefore, ineffective). 4 weeks worth of CANCER AWARENESS is effective !!....we are talking about it.....it's working...... -
