I found out yesterday that I'm going to the Fort Myers area Wednesday. My business partner said we needed some R&R. We had some extra money so we're going there to drink and veg out in the sun until 3/8. The shuttle is scheduled to land at 12:45 PM on 3/7 so we should be able to hear the sonic booms.

We get snow on the mountains nearby, but never down to sea level. Last time it happened was 1976. Half of SF would be uninhabited if it snowed regularly because of the hills. The TV stations freaked out that they saw flakes going past the camera on Sutro Tower (a large TV/radio antenna that can be seen from the whole city). It was cold enough to snow, but no precipitation came by-it was sunny and dry Saturday morning. Yesterday afternoon they got about a 1/4 inch of snow in Salinas, down near Monterey, about 90 miles south of SF.

I'm in the East SF bay also, about 10 miles south of Dante. There is a better chance of us getting snow than Chef Jim. We are at about 300-350 feet and in a valley. Could snow here overnight. Last time the whole SF Bay area got snow was in 1976 with San Jose getting 2 inches. Last Saturday, there was snow on the top of Mt. Diablo (3800 feet) which is right near Dante and in Sunol, which is south of me (2800 feet). It lasted until Tuesday. The ridge I can see from home is about two miles away and tops out at 1000 feet. It gets a dusting every couple years. Once I was driving on the interstate over it and it was snowing up there (none stuck that time). Listening on the radio, Sacramento got hail and two funnel clouds this afternoon. It's 44 degrees at 3:30 PM and is only going to get colder. We do get frost some mornings in the winter. Lakre Tahoe is getting 2-4 feet this weekend. Actually it's good. San Francisco gets it drinking water from the Sierras.
