  1. The difference between Bell and Wood is that Wood is popular on this board and Bell is not. Unfortunately, I think the writing is on the wall for Bell. The Bills have a hard enough time re-signing vets let alone players who the HC doesn't really like. The guy who needs to move to a backup is Pears. He has been easily the worst of the three after a strong start but he just got a large contract extension. It's just the way the Bills roll. Next season = 2nd year LT coming off injury plagued season and journeyman RT.
  2. All things being equal a star DL is worth more than a star LB, IMO. The only position more valuable to a team is QB.
  3. Yah, and what's the big idea screwing the team out of 4 or 5 spots in the draft anyway? The Bills should cut him just for that!
  4. It would be classic if the Bills took a RB. It would really harken back to the Matt Millen Detroit days of taking a WR#1 over and over until they finally got it right.
  5. Unfortunately, Moats is playing in all obvious passing situations so he is seeing a lot of snaps. You just don't notice him. Batten is apparently perceived as a worse pass rusher than Moats and a worse run defender than S Johnson so he is seeing limited playing time. When he was playing more earlier in the year (when Kelsay was hurt) I thought he looked pretty shaky. If a player's biggest improvement comes from year 1 to year 2 then Batten looks to be a backup / ST player at best.
  6. Need a QB in one of the first (3) rounds. Personally, I would like to see OLB, WR and QB as the top 3 picks. Order depends on BPA at each position.
  7. I'm pretty sure that he said that about Don Shula. They are running the ball fine using their current system and formations. They are just not calling enough running plays. The only time it makes sense to bring in the FB IMO is in short yardage situations. If you put another WR out by the sideline instead then the opposition will put one of their players on him and it would be like the FB blocked his man all the way to the sideline. Spreading things out makes it much easier to run the ball.
  8. Here is the complete list of FAs: UFAs Demetrius Bell Scott Chandler Tashard Choice Reggie Corner Andra Davis Derek Hagan Steve Johnson Rian Lindell Kirk Morrison Roscoe Parrish Dave Rayner Bryan Scott Reggie Torbor RFAs Chad Rinehart Garrison Sanborn Kraig Urbik EFAs Bruce Hall I've highlighted in bold the ones that I think they should make every possible effort to re-sign.
  9. Re-signing the free agents is by far the most important thing that the Bills need to accomplish to turn things around.
  10. A QB is definitely coming. Not in the first or second round but thereafter. They wanted one last season and it didn't fall for them. What has happened this year will only serve to increase their resolve to get one.
  11. Believe it or not I think that Gailey has been given far less help from Nix than Jauron got from Levy, et. al. With Jauron the Bills picked up several free agents like Stroud, Florence, Walker, Dockery, Hangartner, Owens, etc. Not all were great, but they were better than undrafted free agents and 7th round draft picks that the Bills start now. However, I am very concerned with how clueless Gailey looks right now and how he seems to have lost the team.
  12. This is what has happened, IMO. Gailey is not leading. The team sees that he doesn't know what to do from here except treat the rest of the season like a long preseason and have lost hope and motivation as a result.
  13. Nix didn't bring in Florence. Jauron and crew did. Nix gave Florence the extension once he came on b/c he realized that Florence was actually better than the other guys they have here, but it's relative IMO. I believe that he would thrive in the slot. Maybe even as a #2 who moves to the slot in nickel situations. But he is definitely not a #1, "lock down" guy. Also, for the record, it's not just S Johnson playing OLB. It's K Williams playing NT, Kelsay playing OLB and up until a few weeks ago Moats playing ILB. I agree, however, that Florence is not as out of position as these guys were/are.
  14. Sadly, this seems VERY likely to be true. Even though Bell has played better than Pears or Hairston overall this season they will let him go and keep the other two. It's just the way the Bills roll.
  15. Bills do appear to have quit. I have to say that they never looked this hopeless and unmotivated when losing under Jauron.
  16. C+. Decent head coach selection. Bad 2010 draft. Promising 2011 draft.
  17. I agree with this to a degree. The Bills brought Florence in to be the nickel/slot corner and now he's basically their #1 cover guy. That's too much for him. If they can get two starters ahead of him then he can play where he was originally envisioned and would be solid there, IMO. The Bills D has lots of guys playing out of position.
  18. Spiller played well. I don't see how you can deny that. It's good to see. When Jackson follows S Johnson out the door at the end of next season, Spilller will be the man until his contract runs out.
  19. Because they stink. Johnson was a better DT than Stroud, is a better DE than Carrington and is a better OLB than Moats or Batten. That's pretty good for a backup. People picking on him have run out of stuff to talk about.
  20. I don't think this group is as strong as you think. Troup and Carrington are not contributing / did not contribute much. Kelsay and Johnson are really rotational quality players. When fully healthy, they only have 3 legit full time starters in Dareus, Williams and Edwards (and Edwards is marginal). They don't have a true NT or a strong pass rushing end so they can't really play a 3-4 or a 4-3 effectively, as you can see on Sundays. I haven't lost all hope that Carrington and/or Troup may still develop into something decent but really the Bills probably need to be looking for two more solid linemen, including one full time starter.
  21. Roscoe is done with Buffalo. He will catch on with someone else through for at or near the NFL minimum and play (on and off injured) for a year or two before retiring.
  22. I haven't seen to many flashes from him. He might develop onto a decent player but he isn't one right now. If the Bills are to continue with a 3-4 they need a serious linebacker talent infusion, outside and inside.
  23. This. None of the top tier FAs anyway. They make pick up an average starter or some role players after the top guys are gone.
  24. YES. What else are they going to do with the $20m that they have under the salary cap? What are they saving it for? The last article I read said that the two sides were approximately $2m apart. Maybe they can give Brad Smith's salary to Johnson so that the money would be better spent. BTW- I find it funny that you are quoting Sullivan for support when you continually bash him.
  25. So Stevie walks. They re-signed Pears though.
