  1. Lets try this 1st down: run for 4 yds 2nd down: run for 4yds 3rd down: pass incomplete 4th down: punt or 1st down: pass incomplete 2nd down: run for 7yds 3rd down: run for 2yds (4.5 avg in 2 runs) 4th down: punt Your argument isn't empirical b/c i can play the same silly game as there are thousands of variables in a drive. 5.0ypc is 5.0ypc. End of story. It's awesome to be able to consistently gain positive yardage on runs like freddie does - it's also frustrating when you can't have big plays.
  2. Improved quite a bit as in: going from 3.8ypc to 5.2ypc. CJ was only given 107 carries. Do you want him to rack up yards when he's on the sideline too?
  3. Do you have empirical evidence that method is not as effective at producing scores in a game? Or is this just anecdotal? 5.0ypc is 5.0ypc anyway you slice it and dice it.
  4. In all seriousness, I just don't understand the CJ hate. The guy has been a class act (as far as i'm aware) in buffalo. the bills drafted him in first round and then rarely utilized him his first season. Then CJ improves quite a bit his second season and goes BONKERS his 3rd season, and the HC, OC are gone and an entirely new offensive scheme that apparently doesn't know how to call a run play that's not an iformation running in right into Wood's butt.
  5. For as bad as some of you say he is, he still has a career average of 5.0 ypc (higher than Fred's 4.5). There's no reason why CJ can't be targeted in the passing game more than 2x per game.
  6. he's what i imagined the guy in the "fun chat with a lions fan..." looks like. d-bag. This practice is very popular in european soccer matches - hopefully it doesn't start catching on over here. so dumb and potentially dangerous.
  7. lolol. Like their kicker, he probably got released from his job this week and no longer has internet access.
  8. Im not saying anything negative about Fred. Hes a beast. This convo isnt about him. Its strictly about CJ and how his skillset can be bestbutilized to benefit this offense the most. Of course woodhead has also been successful between the tackles to a certain extent as well but thats not the skillset that teams like the chargers and pats coveted about him. How many times do you see woodhead run it up the middle in standard run formations? Its rare. Hes always been lined up all over the field creating mismatches, in addition to being a feature back to run between the tackles - many times on a draw play.
  9. Lol. Im glad you see the humor in the coaching staff's inability to be creative with the talent on the team. CJ spiller went from 3.8ypc in 2010 to 5.2ypc in 2011 to 6.0ypc in 2012 only to go back down to a career low 3.5 this season Hes on pace for about 40 targets in the passing game this season. Less than 3 a game. Its definitely hilarious.
  10. How many times has CJ ever been used in this fashion? http://www.boltsfromtheblue.com/2013/10/4/4799140/how-the-san-diego-chargers-utilize-danny-woodhead We'll see.
  11. I guess you missed the part where I said "he doesn't need to be a starting NFL RB". Those two guys that are in the same spot as Spiller but yet still see 2x as many targets in the passing game.
  12. Sproles and Woodhead? My point is that why not implement Spiller more in the passing game with quick slants/screens as opposed to simply running him up the middle? I would forget the RB label and start thinking outside the box. He doesn't need to be a "starting NFL running back," but can still be a weapon on the offense as opposed to a nobody. Woodhead was targeted 86 times in the passing game last year. Sproles 89. Spiller 40.
  13. Comparing CJ to Fred is not fair: Fred simply runs better between the tackles. CJ is better in space. The OC's inability to utilize CJ properly falls squarely on the OC and NOT CJ. Gailey turned CJ into one of the biggest threats in the NFL - that's someone who knows what they have and properly utilize it. Hackett has a Ferrari and is utilizing it like a Dodge Ram. That's on Hackett and it's my single biggest gripe with the guy.
  14. I don't disagree with that at all. But that's how the chips fell for him, hopefully he's mentally strong enough to get through the benching. I'm not of the belief that EJ is done in the NFL and he may still bounce back. The problem is if he's not mentally strong enough to recover from the lackluster start to his career. EJ hasn't even started a full season yet. Geno on the other hand already has more starts under his belt and it looks like he will continue to start. He's already at 21 games started compared to EJ's 14. All i'm saying is that if Geno continues to start this season at the expense of the rest of the team and he continues to perform as badly as he has that's 2 years of games you have as a sample and the odds are definitely against him turning it around significantly (as can be seen by the lack of recent examples of QB's who have started 2 seasons, were bad, and then ultimately turned it around). Stafford went into his 3rd season with only 13 games started due to injury but had shown flashes as he had 19TD's through 13 games. Though he did have a lot of INT's remember he inherited an 0-16 team when he was drafted. My point is that he had flashes of greatness his rookie season throwing 5td's in one game. His injuries were a bit of a concern but so was that horrible O-line but I don't remember reading any articles at the time saying he was a bust. Geno (and EJ) have not had any flashes of greatness yet - they've been "OK" some games - but neither one of them have had that wow factor yet that leads people to think that there may be something great there. More concerning for both (especially Geno) is their regressions in their second year.
  15. ? Maybe we need to make a distinction between QB's who sat on the bench b/c they had a HOF QB in front of them and those QB's who started from day 1 (like EJ) before you throw around insults. You specifically replied to QB's being considered busts after 2 years and you provided Rodgers as an example along with Stafford as an example. That's false and there's no arguing it. Stafford threw 41 TD's in his second full season. That's a bust?
  16. Drew Brees threw for 17TD in his first full season and 27TD's in his 3rd full season. he did have a sophomore slump. So yeah, maybe Brees took a little longer to develop.
  17. I cant think of a qb who was below average to bad his first 2 seasons in nfl and then went on to be great. At least not in last 20 yrs..
  18. Rodgers was never considered a bust. Stafford is not a bust.
  19. Jets season over. They look like dog$h*t
  20. A road game too. One where we were 7pt dogs
  21. My main thought exactly. Orton shook off his rust and got better as game went on. Things are looking up. Also, the run game did nothing to help out the passing game
  22. Too lazy to look up why was be suspended?
