  1. Yes, the penalties are an issue. No doubt. But no, there aren’t a lot of TEs that do that kind of dirty work, and I’d invite you to show examples if you’ve got them. I have to question what you’d want to see in a blocking TE if what you looked at didn’t show you anything? Also, to say that the film shots are cherry picked is a bit glossy unless you’re going to show the plays where he doesn’t do his job. But like I said: I’d be fine letting him go and playing a 6th OLman instead. All good with me. I just don’t think it’s correct to marginalize how good he is at what he’s asked to do.
  2. He was CB1 in that draft before the injury...and I still think Douglas would be a good fit for McDermott’s D, but he’s not the tackler they want, nor does he have the ball awareness. Meh, forget the narrative, let the tape do the talking: https://www.buffalorumblings.com/platform/amp/2019/10/2/20892248/all-22-analysis-buffalo-bills-tight-end-lee-smith-blocking-penalties
  3. People don’t like hearing it, but Lee Smith is actually very good at what the team asks him to do. However, I have no problem letting him go and putting a 6th OLman on the field instead, especially considering the mandatory 8th active OLman on game day rule.
  4. I will need to see him play more than 50 snaps to feel comfortable about that, but he seems to be squarely behind Marlowe as the S3 right now. What we can say, however, is that he’s a solid wrap-up tackler with some speed.
  5. Maybe this one already made it in here; maybe not. I’m not a big fan of covers, but this one was, in my opinion, exceptional:
  6. They're both fullbacks They’re both white They wear numbers in the 40s They played for Kyle Shanshan They both hit free agency in 2017 They both received offers from the Bills They both had 3 carries for 7 total yards in 2019 Other than that, not much right? 🍻
  7. Looks like Dodson and the LB they acquired from Carolina are both making the final 53.
  8. The uptick in TDs and yards/target came immediately following the Zay Jones trade. But yeah, Allen’s comfort level with him definitely made a difference.
  9. I’m not sure that I agree with that, but regardless, it’s immaterial. Assume that the offense is going to attempt more passes than 2019, not fewer, so we may be talking ~530 attempts (a 5% increase). The point is that there are plenty of targets to go around.
  10. Trade away the veteran to save money and give chances to the unproven rookie training camp star is creative? Feels like we have this discussion every year...
  11. I went and got a rapid COVID test yesterday just as a precaution and to see what it’s like. State sent a ton of them to Erie County, so I figured why not? Results in 10 minutes. The test itself included 30 seconds of moderate discomfort. The most uncomfortable aspect was standing around waiting while other people were getting tested in the same general vicinity.
  12. Right. I think folks just aren’t used to the idea of a passing offense and just how much opportunity there will be for the team’s playmakers. An offense that attempts 500 passes (fewer than the 2019 Bills’ offense) can distribute targets as such: Diggs - 120 (7-8 per game) Smoke - 100 (6-7 per game) Beasley - 80 (5 per game) Knox - 70 (4-5 per game) Devin - 50 (3 per game) Davis - 40 (2-3 per game) And that leaves another 40 targets for guys like Moss, McKenzie, etc to share.
  13. Just an FYI, Beasley has never had 60 first downs in his career. He had 37 last year. Wait, the team needs to get more time on the field for a 4th round rookie over a veteran coming off his best season despite playing out of position? That does not make any sense whatsoever.
  14. No offense here: You want to trade a guy that had over 100 targets for a career-high in catches and yards, with 6 TDs despite playing out of position? And you want to do this in order to get more time on the field for, who, exactly? I’m out on this one
  15. And a happier squad. There’s a reason why they have no difficulty attracting FA talent. Players want to get and stay healthy, both in the near and long term. The Bills are arguably the best in the league at making that a reality
  16. Hearing speculation that Clowney is going to sign with Baltimore
  17. And he was promoted pretty strongly by this really intelligent, good-looking poster pre-draft:
  18. He caught the game winning TD in the victory that put the Bills in the playoffs in 2019. He hasn’t been great, but he did make a key contribution
  19. I’m probably late to the party with this, but in your well-educated opinion, does the live-virus threshold that’s considered a positive need to be lowered to more accurately reflect infectious persons? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2020/08/29/health/coronavirus-testing.amp.html To a layman such as myself, the argument makes intuitive sense, but I’d appreciate your take on it.
  20. Let me see if I understand here: Hodgins is summarily dismissed because he is a 6th round pick with 4.6 speed...but Duke (who went undrafted and ran even slower) is a great route runner that gets open despite his lack of speed? Duke is in the conversation for the WR6 spot; that’s about as much as one could expect at this point.
  21. Jordan Phillips was actually quite brutal against the run. His gap discipline was generally lousy, and he missed a TON of tackles. Star will be a loss. He doesn’t make flash plays, but he’s a consistent tackler and plays with gap integrity. That said, Butler, Jefferson, and Harry will do fine.
  22. Looked like Williams at RG with Nsekhe at RT on that play...
  23. Good call re Foster And I’m certain that Murphy would have value—veterans that play high snap counts are going to be popular this year given the lack of time rookies have to acclimate...and that’s a big reason to keep him. With Star opting out, AJE and QJ will definitely need to pick up some of the interior snaps, and this team loves to have four EDGE rushers to rotate. Now maybe they’ll use Edmunds there more often, which would be easier to justify with Klein on the roster to play Mike in nickel sets, and in that case the case for moving Murphy is stronger. But I’m reluctant to give up any kind of defensive depth in such an uncertain situation.
  24. I struggle to see who they’d be able to move for any real value. Maybe if some team wanted to take a flyer on Duke they could get a conditional 7th. Other than that I’m stumped.
  25. I don’t hate it...with the shortened offseason why not keep your pass protectors fresher? Plus if you were to lose Dawkins for any period of time, you don’t have that whole “changing two positions along the OL” thing that coaches hate. I mean, you’re still doing it, but with Williams getting time at RT regularly, it would feel less like a double-change at OT.
