  1. This is like Snider/Comcast and the NHL with endless possibility
  2. I wonder if its design is kind of a good cop/bad cop thing. Golisano wont be able to keep a straight face negotiation/threatening the state/county. We all know his intentions are WNY.
  3. I mentioned it. He never won a division or a playoff game and was responsible for destroying the league
  4. I love Pegula... but I dont buy that he hung on to Ruff and Regier 2-3 years too long, thus nosediving the franchise in order to unify the fanbase, when (IMO) everyone was pretty unified to get rid of those two in February of 2011.
  5. I think you are off base with that one. People were ready to burn HSBC if we didnt see R&R's heads roll... then Pegula bought the team and people 'lived' with giving R&R a chance due to the 8th place run and the promise of all this money being thrown at the situation. I R&R were shown the door after the season everyone would have been just as happy.
  6. You said "average" owner. Buffalo/WNY is well below average, while there are a couple extraordinary markets out there where an NFL team can make more, and people may be flexing huge cash in the owner's direction in around 7 years time.
  7. The problem is, guys like Trump see a team making X instead of X x 30% as losing money. Whoever the owner is, he/she is going to have to be very comfortable tying up a huge portion of their wealth in a long-term asset that would bring smaller returns than otherwise invested. also, dont discount the vested heirs of Jacobs and Pegula as well (and Rich).
  8. Pee Wees Big Adventure The Jerk The Blues Brothers
  9. Being loud and noisy and "getting everything you want" does not translate to sports and often ends up being a handicap. Look at Pegula. I believe he learned a lot the past 3 years. An owner needs to be patient, smart, tactful, and willing to put people in charge who know what they are doing, while providing all available resources, including autonomy.
  10. he never won a division or a playoff game in the USFL and then was responsible for crashing the league.
  11. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aF8wLg5Asgo
  12. A lot of that stuff is just a character he plays publicly. He says the right things about Buffalo for now, but I do not trust him for the long-term. I have said it before, but I prefer someone who made their money in one primary business venture as opposed to the 'mogul' type who have buying and flipping in their DNA. Id also rather have guys married to WNY. I would much rather have Pegula, Rich, Golisano, Jacobs or a combo after that the Trump, Milstein, Gurlach group. After that, we'll see. I wonder if Warren Buffett would buy them?
  13. I would say strong favorites are: Renovate Build on Adjacent Lot Somewhere in Southern-downtown, but not at harbor (Perry Street?) Wildcards for 4th spot Batavia Summit Park Mall UB/Audubon Harbor East Side area Lancaster somewhere
  14. I go back and forth on this. Whether the Bills/NFL admit it or not, Buffalo is not capturing the Toronto market. Generally, Ontario Bills fans are all over Southern Ontario and dig the tailgating aspect as well as the cheap shopping over the weekend. Toronto would draw from that gawdy population there. It would probably be more of a casual crowd and them and the NFL would probably really try to covet the numerous cultures that exist in Toronto as well as corporate buyers who arent interested in Buffalo. NFL would gain popularity in the region, and there would be a large counter-fan group who would reject the Toronto team and its environment/pricing, and still/start to support the Bills. They say that 18% of the ticket buyers are currently from Ontario/Canada. Thats roughly 90,000 seats. I think they could easily keep up with that figure with a Toronto team. Especially if they are in the same Division. We also havent seen any sort of decent team/bandwagon effect here since the NFL went over the top in popularity and the Bills really started to regionalize.
  15. A Division with Buffalo, Toronto, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati or Detroit would be tops.
  16. [quot honest question: Have you ever been to Niagara Falls, USA? (assuming a roof) The Super Bowl would come to Buffalo if and only if the development continues downtown and things continue to turn around solidly for another decade. Even then, it is very iffy. Niagara Falls is a toxic wasteland that shows no promise at all. Zero. There is nothing going on there and plopping a stadium in an undersized inaccessible corner of WNY is not going to magically create development, even if NYS drops a few bucks in improving the roads. I work in Niagara Falls and even on major roads I have to swerve around potholes the size of craters. The city has major problems deep in its bones a stadium wont fix, and if anything, it would further highlight its problems.
  17. why does John Kryk seem to be so much more in front of this than TBN or WGR reporters?
  18. I dont know. The whole point of the column wasnt to agree with Jerry jones. It was just to say do not laugh at him as he is a prominent figure in the NFL, and Buffalo should not let down its guard. He is correct.
  19. I would think the WJC required many rooms. More have been built/are on the way. Anyways, I believe a Final Four is not an impossibility. Hosting a yearly Bowl Game and/or hosting the MAC Championship (switching with Detroit) is not out of the realm of possibility. Buffalo will have to continue the turnaround, it seems like we will have Hafbrauhausen or whatever and various microbreweries and restaurants, attractions, etc that would make a Superbowl in the 2020s strong a possibility IMO if the stadium is downtown. I would also say Wrestlemania could possibly be an event. WM, FF, and SB would all be once in a lifetime though. The Sabres could also play semi annually or so in the stadium, especially if Pegula is involved in the Bills ownership. If UB is linked, they could potentially hop conferences and play games there. As pointed out though, NCAA football in a pro town have a tough go. Im sure if they could garner the support, some better conferences would love the Buffalo market and facility. I prefer outdoor for the Bills. I like the variability and the fact that the weather is an element that gives different games character and properties. If a roof gets it done though, we gotta support that
  20. awesome, bro. Anyways, not inhaling anything but the tonawanda coke air is the optimal situation. Doing nothing is better than "vaping" which is better than Cigs/tobacco/chewing, etc. I would also be weary of the habit intensifying due to the accessibility and ease of the e-cig. Like if you really wanted, you could potentially suck down the thing all day at work, in the car, watching TV, etc. Its a good idea to self-monitor and be careful of that. If you can e-cig in moderation, just to replace the habit a bit (such as if you NEED a cig when drinking), and also to get the nicotine fix, then its good. If you want that constantly running through your veins, then it is probably going to be proven bad for you long term.
  21. I have seen that study and it provides very vague language/doesnt site any kind of specifics at all. I also wonder who funded the research.
  22. but the Sabres are here in Buffalo and secure. Jacobs also made mistakes en route to winning a cup. Pegula is the most dedicated owner possible and the organization has had one blunder after another under him. There is not one spotless possibility here.
