  1. I doubt it because that would probably mean someone on the MNF crew gets a vote, which would mean that Manning would have won 46-1-1... with the other one going to Tom Brady.
  2. Thanks for putting words in my mouth. I don't think Puckett is an "automatic" HOFer. On the other hand, he DOES have two World Series rings that the Twins wouldn't even have sniffed if it weren't for him. Do I think Puckett deserves it before Mattingly? Of course. And anyone not blinded by the pinstripes would agree. I also think that, strictly based on production, Keith Hernandez is a HOFer way before Mattingly. He didn't have the power that Mattingly displayed for about five or six years, but he established the defensive benchmark for that position, won an MVP, and, oh yes, won two World Series rings. He has only himself to blame for the fact he was done by age 35, and I really don't think he's a HOFer, but again, he gets in way before Mattingly.
  3. The line below your avatar is laughable.
  4. So said the Yankees before this year's ALCS... right up until Game 7.
  5. To the best of my recollection, the Mets weren't interested in Carl Pavano; they were busy going after Pedro Martinez. Correct me if I'm wrong. The Yankees, on the other hand, WERE interested in Beltran. Most Yankee fans had Beltran penciled into their 2005 lineup from the time of the NLDS right up until about a week and a half ago. Of course, it was only after it looked like they weren't going to get him that you started to hear whispers that "their 'baseball people' don't value Beltran as a $16M/year player" (these are the same "baseball people" who valued Giambi and Jeter at that level) and "Beltran isn't the kind of player who will succeed in NYC" (on that matter, the jury is certainly still out on A-Rod) and "the Yankees don't want to pay him what they pay Jeter and A-Rod" -- none of which you heard when the Yankees were actually courting him. The Yankees can never admit that they were actually outbid, or outworked, by another team for any particular player. It has something to do with the Yankees because everyone had Beltran going to the Yankees, that's all.
  6. From listening to people here you'd think Drew is one of those players too.
  7. There are reasons why Randy Moss has never played in the Super Bowl, let alone won it. I believe that at least some of those reasons include the words "Randy Moss." I think they're both punks, but the biggest difference between Moss and Ray Lewis (besides the fact that Lewis owns a SB ring) is that Ray Lewis comes to play every week, every down. Randy plays when he feels like it. :I starred in Brokeback Mountain: Randy.
  8. Could you imagine if Drew had done what Favre just did? This board would have Rosened so fast.
  9. It's not so much that Wilpon is spending -- he's always spent. It's that he finally has a GM who recognizes that what you spend it ON is at least as important as how much you spend. In a couple of years I wonder if the Yankees will regret trading for Randy Johnson instead of signing Beltran.
  10. And for a guy in his prime, no less.
  11. I have watched all the playoff games so far and have come to the conclusion that the Bills are better than five of the six teams I've seen yesterday and today. And it's not close. Add Minnesota and Green Bay tonight to that list. :I starred in Brokeback Mountain: Lindell for missing that FG.
  12. Somewhat related: George's cover of "Absolutely Sweet Marie" on the Dylan 30th Anniversary CD.
  13. He's perfect. He's an offensive coordinator, and their offense is offensive.
  14. Kelly did not dress for the Oilers playoff game. You're thinking of Thurman Thomas who got hurt in Q1.
  15. I can't let this thread die yet. Hey Ronnie. :I starred in Brokeback Mountain: you, you miserable piece of stojan.
  16. I like the Michael Munoz idea. He seems to be rated low second-round at this point; is there some reason why he hasn't turned into the stud his father was? I seem to remember he was the highest-rated OL coming out of high school, but maybe that was just name hype.
  17. I don't think anything will happen with TH until the draft is underway, if it happens at all. TD will probably see how the first 10 or so picks play out before he makes a decision, if he really thinks there's a way to get a first-rounder out of a Henry deal (not straight up, obviously, but rather Henry for a pick and then that pick plus a 2 and maybe a high 2006 pick for a 2005 #1). I keep hearing that this draft isn't deep. If that's true it probably makes no sense to trade into the first round anyway
  18. I happen to think Tucker did a decent job at LG this year. Not saying the position can't be upgraded, but the priority on the O-line needs to be re-signing or replacing Jennings. Does anyone think we can move MW to left tackle now and get a (cheaper) right tackle?
  19. I'm no draft expert and can't speak to the quality of the late first round in 2005, but remember that the last two years we traded up into the first round, we got guys that we knew were at least a year away from contributing -- McGahee and Losman. I have yet to see TD make a move up to grab a guy he thought could play NOW. Generally those people are in the top ten, and we don't have what it takes to get up there. Rolling the dice on a late first rounder to give you that "one player" you need to get to the promised land THIS YEAR? That's a good way to get fired.
  20. I'd be all for going back to the white helmets. (And with the standing buffalo too). When we switched to the red, didn't Fred Smerlas say something like "Maybe we can dress up like Big Bird too"?
  21. My only caveat is that we should watch the teams that end up picking directly ahead of Pittsburgh. I'm sure TD wouldn't mind jumping in line just ahead of the Steelers if he thinks they're going to take a guy he wants. (Of course, he did that with Ryan Denney and that didn't exactly work out all that well...)
  22. How did we give up 17 points to the dogass Jets?
  23. My favorite is at Wegmans when people leave carts in the space right NEXT to the cart corral.
  24. People I hate in the parking lot (I saw a lot of these people while I was going to law school at UB): Anyone who follows you down the row waiting for you to get in your car and leave so they can grab your spot. I take care of that guy right away. I walk down a row that's two or three rows over from my car, take out my keys and slow down as if I'm going to unlock the car in front of me, and then cut through to my car two rows over. Of course I make sure to get in my car and get out of there before the guy can find me.
