Last Ditch Meeting To Save Hockey Season
BRH replied to millbank's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, most people only care about the last 15-20 games plus the playoffs anyway, and I can think of at least a couple of years when the Sabres only decided to show up for the last 15-20 games, so maybe this is a good thing. -
As much as I despise the little self-aggrandizing midget, he was not CUT by EVERY NFL team. After the USFL folded, he was cut by the Bears and the Patriots; then he went to Canada. He probably could have gotten a backup spot somewhere in the NFL but it wasn't until he was 40 years old (and after his Buffalo career, unfortunately) that he finally got it through that thick mullet of his that he was better-suited to being a backup than a starter.

Incidentally, maybe people should read the Felser column before opining. He spent only a couple of paragraphs, if that, on Marino. And Felser also said that Bob Kuechenberg belongs in the Hall, so the Marino dis wasn't just a case of a Buffalo guy denigrating a hated Dolphin. That said, I agree with Felser. If I wanted to win one football game, I could think of 20 quarterbacks I'd take before I took Dan Marino. Hell I could do that off the top of my head. In no particular order: 1. Johnny Unitas 2. Brett Favre 3. Joe Montana 4. Jim Kelly 5. John Elway 6. Bart Starr 7. Steve Young 8. Bobby Layne 9. Roger Staubach 10. Y.A. Tittle 11. Terry Bradshaw 12. Troy Aikman 13. Joe Namath 14. Otto Graham 15. Jim McMahon 16. Ken Stabler 17. Phil Simms 18. Warren Moon 19. Sid Luckman 20. Norm Van Brocklin That didn't take long. Remember, I said to WIN ONE GAME. I hate it when people claim Marino was at a disadvantage because he didn't have a running game. Shula built his offense around Marino's arm and you never once heard Danny say in the offseason "I think we should get a running back in here" or "I think we should run more" or "I think we should get offensive linemen who can run-block." He liked the offense just fine the way it was, and he was just as much at fault as Shula was for the fact that Miami had stevestojan for a running game for almost 20 years.

In no particular order. 1. Doug Flutie. 2. Rob Johnson. 3. Todd Collins. 4. Billy Joe Hobert. 5. Peerless Price. 6. Chris Watson. 7. Antowain "The A-Strain" Smith. 8. Mike Pucillo. 9. Matt Stevens. 10. Erik Flowers. 11. Travares Tillman. 12. Robert Hicks. 13. Jerry Crafts. 14. Ruben Brown. That's right, I said it. Eight-time Pro Bowler my ass. 15. Rian Lindell. 16. Daryl Porter or whoever it was who left his lane in the HomeJob ThrowUp. Coaches merit a special mention: 1. Gregg Williams. 2. Dan Henning. 3. Joe Pendry. 4. Kevin Gilbride. 5. Ronnie Jones. 6. Danny Smith. 7. Ronnie Vinklarek. 8. Pat Ruel. 9. Carl Mauck. That's my Top 25 of the last decade that I can do without. A great big :I starred in Brokeback Mountain: to every single one of them.

Waiting for the response: "Drew had 15 games to make up for that oopsie."
-
Gregg Williams could make a lot of money off a deal like that!
-
Don't forget our great punt returner/all-pro CB fumbled our first possession away before Drew even stepped on the field. I suppose that was Drew's fault too.

Since there is almost no way UB is going to get an at-large tourney bid without winning the MAC tourney, I'm not all that concerned about their intradivisional record. That kind of thing is more important to the Villanovas and the NC States of the world. Just hope UB is firing on all cylinders by the time the MAC tourney rolls around. Go Bulls!
-
Now this hits the nail on the head. Some of the same Belichick ballwashers who can't stop talking about the Patriots' "team concept" are all too willing to say it's all Drew's fault in Buffalo.

I hope someday Freddie gets the chance to show what he can do as a #1 receiver, just like Alvin Harper and Peerless Price did.
-
Man this cracked me up: that's the first time I've ever seen someone say "The reason I blew goats in that game is because somebody else on my team is better than me."

Thanks for the tip! I just downloaded the 1977 Cornell show and am playing it through the headphones at work. "I can tell the queen of diamonds by the way she shines..."

Potential monday night football game
BRH replied to SuperBills12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That Broncos game was 20 points in 77 seconds! And it was 1990 too. So was the Jets MNF game (Thurman ran for 214 in that one). -
OT - Is the USAF NF base still operational?
BRH replied to stuckincincy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for clarifying, BB. That's what I was trying to say, but you said it better. I used to drive past it on the drive to college in NJ whenever I had the time to take 96 instead of 90 to 81. Wasn't there some kind of "Women's Peace Encampment," a hippie house of sorts, in Romulus right on the outskirts of the base? -
This is a better Shaud interview

Potential monday night football game
BRH replied to SuperBills12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That, if I'm not mistaken, was a Sunday Night game. Bills were down 24-14 in the fourth quarter when all hell broke loose and they scored 24 unanswered to win. I remember JD Williams returning a blocked punt for a TD and Kirby Jackson making a big pick as well. That was back in the good old days when we never really LOST a game; we just ran out of time in the end. -

That was closed about ten years ago. The official line was that there were no missiles there. Friends of mine who served down there said different. -
Holy sh--, I forgot all about that smartyjoneswinsthetriplecrown.com fiasco. Took me a minute to figure out what you guys were talking about.

Yeah, the Orange Bowl halftime with Ashlee Simpson was SO much better.

Anyone have pics of the Girl from go daddy . com
BRH replied to Rudyc80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You can find the full "web-only censorship hearing," featuring footage that Fox rejected, by going to www.bobparsons.com. Apparently after the first ad aired, the NFL told Fox to pull GoDaddy's second ad. -
This is actually a very well-written post... for a nine-year-old who rides the short bus. Bruschi in the Hall of Fame? I bet even HE would laugh at that. Harrison, Milloy, Law and Washington have no chance. It's way, WAY too early to tell for Seymour. Vinatieri, maybe, but he still needs to hang around another ten years and put up the career numbers. Odds are very good that in 25 years we'll go to Canton and see Belichick and Brady in the Hall. That's it.

I'm not either, but the whole discussion is moot if a ref blew his whistle after Harrison hit the ground, which could very well have happened.
