  1. Yes. Looking from a pure cap standpoint, I would love this. Even with all the cuts so far, and an expected Ellerbe cut for $5.7M,that puts them with an expected cap post draft of $10M. A Suh deal at $18M would mean a cut of a vet, plus letting Odrick walk, plus making a frontloaded Clay deal a poison pill.
  2. Man, the Bills would have to do some cap magic to get him with the transition tag, while dealing with the Shady hit. I'm not saying it couldn't be done, but if Miami really wants Suh, you could make a deal that is an absolute poison pill for Miami to swallow.
  3. I think the concern is that there seems like a good chance Mariota falls to 6. I hear reports that the Eagles would trade the farm, including Nick Foles if got there.
  4. I'm actually worried about the Jets this year. They have a ton of money in free agency. Even with Idzik's cuts they still have a strong front 7. With their draft pick they have a strong chance of getting Mariota or Nick Foles via trade.
  5. They would have to do some real cap magic to keep both. They currently have 2 million in cap room, even after jetting Hartline and Gibson. And that's before draft picks I believe. I can't see Suh going for less than $10M plus signing bonus and probably a good bit more than Mario. Not counting Clay (who they just tagged), here's who they'd safe between 4.5-7.5M in cap space pre June 1st: Cameron Wake, Ellerbe, Reshad Jones, Mike Pouncey, Earl Mitchell, Randy Starks. Getting both Suh and Odrick would probably mean cutting 3 of those guys at best, maybe up to 5.
  6. Good. If they do that, they are letting Odrick walk. Odrick could be a three down replacement for Hughes at significantly less money.
  7. It would be sad to lose him. But in Rex's system he'd be a third down specialist. For what he is likely to get on the open market I can imagine picking up a solid guard and an Alan Branch like journeyman 3-4 DE. You can get a one down speed rusher in the draft, or dirt cheap like Sam or Blackmon if that's all you are asking of them.
  8. I definitely agree. Even more than signing Hughes. I am glass half full that Roman's scheme is a better fit for Glenn, Kujo and Richardson, but it would be nice to pick up someone to make the run blocking absolutely dominant.
  9. Would anyone consider him to play the Heavy 5 technique, a la Alan Branch? He graded out positively as a 3-4 DE, which he would kind of be in Pettine/Rex's system.
  10. Wow I am shocked at the level of Brown dislike. I love me some Freddy, but I have to agree with Kelly. Fred definitely seemed slower and he didn't pick up the tough yards the same way as previous years. I think he falls during camp and possibly gets cut.
  11. I find the idea that Roman won't know what to with Shady ridiculous. Even if you buy into Chip Kelly being a genius, Roman certainly knows how to scheme the run game. The Niners have been top 5 for the last few years. FWIW, in Philly the perception is that a big chunk of why the trade happened was that Shady didn't necessarily "buy in" to the Chip Kelly approach of running things like a college team with that level of involvement. A prime example was cutting DJAX coming off a Pro Bowl season for nothing but dead cap space. Whatever you think of his x's and o's his personnel management is...contentious.
  12. Has anyone considered Odrick? If we are willing to pay something like 8M a year for Hughes what about for a guy you can play every down?
  13. Are you particularly frightened of Landry? Wallace is good, but not elite. I honestly cannot think of any team that would pay him almost ten million dollars this year. I would be more than happy to have him be the albatross around their necks. And that still doesn't answer how they are going to afford to pay their draft picks. At this point, most likely it's going to be cutting a very good veteran player to give themselves some breathing room. Hey, I'm looking for positives.
  14. My only consolation is that's a **** ton of cash to keep him, which digs them even deeper into cap hell. He might be their only receiver.
  15. Well, they still have Wallace but they really are having a fire sale. Hartline gave them more dead money than cap room.
  16. The Philly radio talk show perspective is that they can't believe he got cut. The line there really struggled early on, which led to Foles getting beat like a piñata. I would most definitely take a sniff.
  17. Leroi often has good sources, and that scares me if the plan is to cut EJ and put McGowan on charge
  18. It looks like there are a lot of people they can cut for savings, but if it means having them cut Cameron Wake to keep clay...
  19. Does that also not include the draft? Last year at that spot the Bears paid 2.2M in cap space for Fuller. Between all those picks, would they have any space left?
  20. Pass for me. Maybe, only maybe, at a discount to rotate in at the 5 tech if we keep Hughes.
  21. I would take either in a heartbeat. How's that Byrd deal looking now NOLA?
  22. If that man is getting an average of $4M a year from the Dolphins I would have him fire his agent.
