Didn't they offer Shanahan $10 million/year and basically any GM duties he wanted? They were willing to pay Shanny, Gruden or Cowher whatever they wanted. The money wasn't the problem then, and it likely isn't now.

Kyle Williams has same foot injury as last year

How strange is it that he has the same specific foot injury on the other foot? Weird, and disheartening. -
Levitre intent on shopping around for best offer - Sully
Punch replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Did you hear that on-air? He seems like a stand up guy, and I would hope that if the Bills gave him a competitve offer he'd accept it. After last season's excellent string of re-signings, it'd be a shame to lose Levitre. As always, a pending free agent suggesting they'll see what offers they can recieve on the open market is a bargaining tool--- I think Stevie said the same thing last year. -
Peter king says Chan gone on Monday...

You were right the 1st time--- although Kelly played 2 seasons for the Gamblers, he was on the Trump owned NY/NJ Generels when the USFL folded (the 2 franchises merged together). He never played a down for them because the season was canceled. I have a Sports Illustrated with Kelly on the cover holding a Generels helmet. He and Doug Flutie were actually teammates, albeit briefly. -
Thurman Thomas on John Murphy at 8 pm Tonight
Punch replied to TheZone78's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey, that's an excellent guess which fits the criteria! If true, it'd be great news. -
Didn't the Colts' backup coach also beat the Packers? This is not a defense of Chan, BTW.

Alternatively, we can look at it as a purging cleanse.

If you think you hate the Patriots now, listen to this...
Punch replied to bbb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This. This was acknowledged by the NFL to it's team's officials. The rules changes were made due to this transgression. No other NFL team has had the audacity to attempt anything remotely similar. Don't forget Scott Pioli. -

The "CBS Sports" link is an unnamed blogger--- the blog is only hosted on CBSSports.com much in the same way that you or I could start a blog at bleacherreport.com. A Patriots fan writing a blog deriding the Spygate controversy means jack squat. Jimmy Johnson's comments in the Boston Herald link underscore what many here and elsewhere have said: it isn't really about the signal stealing only, which has indeed been a common practice throughout the years. Complaints from NFL teams regarding the numerous helmet radio shenanigans led to rules changes, to name one major example. -

Via http://www.billsdaily.com/articles/1998/statement.html: Here's Bills Owner Ralph Wilson's complete statement regarding the $50,000 fine handed down by Commissioner Paul Tagliabue: "On December 2nd I received a fax from Commissioner Paul Tagliabue informing me the Bills are being fined $50,000 for criticism on my part of officiating in the last moments of our game with New England. I described two calls, back-to-back, as probably the worst I have witnessed in the 60 years I have watched pro football. Those two calls cost the Bills a very important game, one in which our team fought back very courageously from a substantial deficit. Society today is more enlightened. Fair comment and criticism are rampant. The entire media as a unit is frank and the millions watching a game are frank. But the Commissioner lecturing to me as if I were a novice, instead of one who has been involved in football infinitely longer than he has, contends that criticizing a call has 'destructive and corrosive effects on the game.' What is more destructive and corrosive -- errant calls in front of millions of viewers or my statements of opinion? People all over the country registered shock at the way the officials, however honorable their purpose, took the game away from us. Even the league has admitted to us that the calls near the conclusion of the game were incorrect. On Monday morning, the Commissioner can sermonize on destruction and corrosion, but he has never experienced the pain of blowing a crucial game due to officiating. I have yet to decide whether I will pay or challenge the fine. But, at 80, I do know I don't need pompous lectures from the Commissioner and I feel that the $50,000 is not only unwarranted, but punitive in nature. The next time he may ask me to sit in the corner." -

Bill Polian on what it takes to win
Punch replied to LiterateStylish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great news: the Bills already hired Bill Polian. Approximately 25 years ago. -
No head coach has won a Super Bowl with more than one team. A few have taken multiple teams to a SB (Parcells, Vermeil, Shula, etc) however.

This sentiment is at least somewhat logical for fans outside of the region, but it also boggles my mind to read comments that the representative city is "arbitrary". Would an L.A. Packers franchise still evoke Vince Lombardi and Frozen Tundra? Or would a large swath of the NFL's identity be irrevocably lost? The Colts franchise is no longer about Johnny Unitas, it's Peyton Manning. Unitas identified himself with the Baltimore Ravens before his death, because the City/Region is anything but "arbitrary". I think the Bills leaving Buffalo would be such a painfully visceral experience for the community that, yes--- the Bills would be "dead" to a lot (or probably most) of us. To assume otherwise is outrageous. The Brooklyn Dodgers and L.A. Dodgers represent two eras of the same National League franchise--- but each team has a completely distinct identity defined in large part by their community and regional fanbase. Again, the above sentiment is at least logical for an outsider to have, but to suggest that a professional sports franchise with as much history in a single region as the Bills moving to another region somehow wouldn't matter is naive, intellectually dishonest or at the very least: lazy. The Bills in another city would be a completely different entity and one I with which I (and millions of others) could no longer relate.

Retractable-roof stadium proposed for outer harbor
Punch replied to buffalobillsfootball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The proposed sports museum is exactly the kind of permanent year round attraction needed for the City of Buffalo--- and certainly not the ONLY one. The Strong National Museum of Play is an incredible place to visit and attracts throngs of visitors year round. If they're involved then that further proves this is a legitimate progressive idea. Again, a lot of issues need to be worked out, but to completely dismiss it from the outset is depressingly shortsighted. Perhaps all too typical for City government and the Bills. -

Although this idea in it's current state is not practical, I agree with those suggesting it's foolish to dismiss it out of hand. Solutions to longstanding problems don't come out of the womb fully formed. It would be nice to see the Bills and the local government try to chip away at the logistical issues rather than blow it off. -

If you're wishing the team moves then it sounds like you've already made the jump.

what's a good name for the bills defense?

Isn't he 13-26 with the Bills? He won 18 in 2 seasons in Dallas. (Not that changes much)

Understatement of the year. Fitz had a terrific game and the defense sucked for pretty much 90% of the day. But Fitz had an opportunity to put the game away with a 1st down and he got picked on one of his worst throws of the season. He then had an opportunity to get the offense into field goal range with a full minute and 2 timeouts--- and he flubbed it. You can't say "you can't put this on Fitz", because it's arguable that the defense put them in position to win the game in the 2nd half. Splitting hairs on just how much blame is to be parsed out to either Fitz or the D is getting old.

Trestman is a very interesting candidate. I've been a staunch Chan supporter for much of his term here (although to say I was initially disappointed by the the hire a huge understatement) but I might sign up for a new HC next year if it's a guy like Marc Trestman, regardless of his wanderlust.
