  1. It's not very promising that the Bills get to meet with him "tonight"--- when it's already 11pm. Especially after 7 hours with Cleveland. What does it all mean? Who knows.
  2. Just now: Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter Via @mortreport, Chip Kelly wrapped up 7 hours of meeting with Browns. Kelly meeting tonight w/ Bills, Saturday w/ Eagles. Browns favored.
  3. According to ESPN Cleveland, the rumors are apparently true that Haslem and Banner had been working on Kelly for some time: A source in the Browns’ organization told ESPN Cleveland that just over a week ago Banner told backup quarterback Colt McCoy he is “in the next head coach’s plans.” Adam Caplan of Sirius/XM NFL Radio reported earlier tonight that Michael Lombardi, who is rumored to be the next GM, has already been angling for the Browns in free agency. If you combine both of these reports it is pretty obvious that the Kelly/Lombardi regime did not just materialize in the last 24 hours. As far as Brandon Weeden, who started all but one game for the Browns last season, he may end up the odd man out. Lombardi said the drafting of Brandon Weeden with the #22 pick was a panicked disaster last offseason. He also said on a Cleveland radio station in September that despite the fact that Colt McCoy gives the team a better chance to win, Weeden was going to finish out the season as the starter.
  4. The difference in quality between the theatre and arts communities of Cleveland and Buffalo is arguable at best, but what's not likely arguable is that it figured into Chip Kelly's decision in any way whatsoever. Perhaps if he chose San Diego or Miami. There are several reasons for him to choose Cleveland--- serving as a coverup to your cheap shot isn't one of them.
  5. You're absolutely right, it may not work. There are certainly risks to his approach that have more to do with just playcalling. I'm not suggesting he's going to completely revamp his offense, but it will depend largely on the personnel he has available to him. That's what a smart coach would do, and that's what makes Kelly valuable--- his brains. Having said that, Bill Bellichick invited Kelly to Patriots camp this year to teach him his offense. The Pats offense this year adopted many of his principles, and the results were tremendous.
  6. That's a ridiculous response, and totally unnecessary.
  7. The Cleveland ownership and front office, Jimmy Haslem & Joe Banner, already are what Russ Brandon is aspiring to be: progressive, forward thinking and aggressive. Plus, Banner has a relationship with Kelly's agent. There's talent on that roster, too.
  8. Many posters are making comments similar to this, but this is far from the truth. I don't think there's a coach in football that has come under more detailed scrutiny then Chip Kelly--- the amount of analysis and critique available on the internet about what and how he's doing what he's doing is abundant. Kelly has said he will adapt his system to whatever talent he has. It's been repeated a million times--- he's not going to simply run the Oregon offense. Smart Football ‏@smartfootball Chip Kelly's top run plays -- inside zone, outside zone, and power (guard pull) -- are same Trent Richardson ran at Alabama
  9. Part of it's funny because this season the Bills beat both teams.
  10. That's the risk/reward of the internet--- kind of like hiring Kelly! HA!
  11. That's not the actual Plain Dealer--- it's a fake.
  12. Where did he say that?
  13. Paul Hamilton ‏@pham1717 @ByTimGraham Why would they waste each other's time? Tim Graham ‏@ByTimGraham @pham1717 All sorts of reasons: posturing, appearances, trying to be thorough, gathering info on a future NFL coach ...
  14. He added: Tim Graham ‏@ByTimGraham Keep in mind, Bills fans, that token interviews sometimes lead to genuine interest. Mike Tomlin began as a Rooney Rule requirement
  15. Type it over and over again and see if that makes it so. There are plenty of posts suggesting your assertion is incorrect. There's also a substantial amount of evidence to back it up.
  16. That's funny--- I had a jokey thought that Bellichick is such a genius, he a) knew who we were going to hire to be our next coach 6 months in advance, b) brought him in to master his philosophy, and c) will then use it against us for the next 3 years until the cycle repeats. This goes way beyond spygate, folks!
  17. Lombardi was an assistant with the NY Giants, alongside Tom Landry.
  18. This part really gets me--- any good will O'Brien has generated these past few months has to be wiped out by the money grab and blatant shoulder shrugging. Taking advantage of a weakened and desperate Penn State (not suggesting they don't deserve to be there) for financial gain after asking so many student-athletes to join him under the guise of a trusted relationship is in the poisoned spirit of the violations that got PSU in this situation in the first place. Whatever his intentions, this is why it disturbs me to have Mr. Pegula involved in any way.
  19. One possible reason Kelly is headed for the NFL: http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-football/story/2012-12-19/report-oregon-ncaa-case-likely-heading-to-hearing
  20. Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet #Eagles spokesman RT @derek_boyko: #Eagles confirm they met with Bill O'Brien today.
  21. What a great guy. Thank god money wasn't a motivator: Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet Why did OBrien stay? Agent: "The commitment he made to the existing team & incoming recruits was far stronger than the allure of an NFL job" Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet More from agent Joe Linta on #PennSt Bill O'Brien: "His word and his integrity meant more than any possible NFL interest. He loves his job."
  22. Yes, but if Pegula is O'Brien's "ally" in this effort, then it also implies he's in cahoots. Honestly, I have no idea if/how/why it would/could/should be construed as negative. It just sounds odd I'm hoping it's not.
  23. Exactly. By going for 2 on the opening TD, Kelly created a scenario where Kansas State had to score 2 TDs to take the lead, being down 22-10 at the half. Had Oregon simply kicked the extra point, an 11 point lead doesn't seem as daunting when you can kick a FG as part of the 2 scores needed. Instead, KS tightened up and started to press. How often have we seen Gailey or Jauron teams play "not to lose" and watching the other team pull away? Conversely, had Snyder not attempted that FG in the 2nd Q, the outcome might've still been in doubt.
  24. The previous paragraph to the above quote (in reference to "PSU donor Terry Pegula, financier of the new Penn State hockey arena, has been a major ally in his efforts" below: This was a strategic mission of sorts by O'Brien. By having Linta throw his name open to NFL openings and having the agent field initial offers, he was able to gain additional leverage that allowed him to accomplish structural and personnel changes in the Penn State athletic department that will be forthcoming. O'Brien declined to be specific about those changes when asked but he did not deny those aims. What personnel changes would Pegula be interested in influencing? This could be a major headache as a Sabres' fan--- or maybe nothing at all. http://www.pennlive.com/pennstatefootball/index.ssf/2013/01/bill_obrien_is_staying_at_penn.html
