  2. The Bills actually relieved the current staff of their duties last week.
  3. Marrone may be relatively popular now in Syracuse, and will likely be fondly remembered for returning a modicum of credibility to the football program, but it's not as though he is/was the longterm legendary coach synonymous with the Orange Men. He's been there 3 years. I like the ideea of playing a preseason game there (logistics notwithstanding) but it'd make no sense that this was a "marketing" move, unless Marrone is a wild success in Buffalo.
  4. Interesting, although their time at Tennessee didn't overlap.
  5. The candidate with, arguably, the most interested teams also comes the cheapest? Doubtful.
  6. Considering these 2 tweets (both from around the same time) are not mutually exclusive, I suppose I understand where Sal is coming from--- if both of these are true. But it sounds like it may be a formality: EDIT: I'll also add it's not necessarily clear that "Marrone still a candidate elsewhere" is Brandon speaking or Sal editorializing. I'd guess the latter. Jerry Sullivan ‏@TBNSully Russ Brandon confirms by text that the Bills have agreed in principle to hire Doug Marrone as new head coach. Brandon called him "dynamic". Sal Maiorana ‏@salmaiorana Just got text from Brandon - Marrone deal NOT done yet. Mostly done, but not complete. Might take all day. Marrone still candidate elsewhere
  7. Excellent! Also excellent!!
  8. Sal is alone in suggesting Marrone is "in play" outside of Buffalo.
  9. I understand what you're saying, but the inference is made clear by "Mort: Browns rebooting coaching search"
  10. Possibly--- I'm just confused by where Sal is coming from.
  11. That's what it appears--- it's embarrassing for Sal to be asking publicly if Marrone is "in play" with Cleveland at this hour. Sully claims to have received a text from Brandon, this morning: Jerry Sullivan ‏@TBNSully Russ Brandon confirms by text that the Bills have agreed in principle to hire Doug Marrone as new head coach. Brandon called him "dynamic".
  12. Sal just asked Mary Kay Cabot from the Cleveland Plain Dealer if "Marrone is in play for Cleveland?". Is Sal hopelessly out of touch or is Marrone not signed? WTF?!? Sal Maiorana ‏@salmaiorana Mary Kay, is Marrone in play there? RT @MaryKayCabot Kelly "will not be the next Cleveland Browns coach,'' report says http://dlvr.it/2ljKbp
  13. When Sisyphean posted it, there was no link--- Mort said it on TV.
  14. I'm confused---it looks like Sal is going back and forth on whether or not Marrone's signed. Sal Maiorana ‏@salmaiorana So if Chip Kelly is out of play in #Cleveland, are #Browns taking another run at Marrone? Hasn't signed with #Bills yet.
  15. Sal Maiorana ‏@salmaiorana WGR is asking whether this is #Bills first head coach hire directly from college. The author of Relentless can confirm that it is.
  16. Yes, at 6:16am. Sal Maiorana is even confirming it is done.
  17. He was the Bills OC from 2004-05--- I see Van Pelt didn't join the Bills' coaching staff until 2006 though, so maybe that's not necessarily the connection.
  18. Probably due to Tom Clements.
  19. Well, the Browns match this more than the Bills, arguably. They've already hired a new President in Alec Scheiner that has utilized football analytics in the NFL (with Dallas), and he'll be hiring at least one major specialist in that regard. The Bills willingness to head in this direction is positive, but it's not an advantage over Cleveland. EDIT: Another thing that gets left out is that Joe Banner is very close with Kelly's agent David Dunn. Jim Overdorf is good friends with agent Drew Rosenhaus, and apparently this was instrumental in Terrell Owens signing in Buffalo.
  20. I'm curious why you preferred Landry Jones in the first if you think Bray is the most talented QB in this year's draft class. Did you just think Jones was more NFL ready in year 1 than Bray? I ask because I don't know much about him.
  21. What's funny is that prior to any interviews taking placed, it was "revealed" that Kelly did not require personnel control, and also strongly hinted that Cleveland was holding off on hiring a GM because they were open to giving him as much control as he wanted. Up is down, left is right, right is wrong.
  22. Not a single hint. But the interview was "confirmed" to be over approximately half an hour after it was revealed they were meeting. Then, assumptions were made. And now here we are.
  23. Another grain of salt: Reuben Frank ‏@RoobCSN So Kelly likely has offers from Lurie & Banner. Eagles & Browns keeping other options open until CK decides [or stays at Ore]. Makes sense. Retweeted by Sal Capaccio Reuben Frank ‏@RoobCSN Can confirm that meeting in Phoenix with Eagles and Kelly has ended after nine hours.
  24. Of course. It's funny that reporters will report something of this nature as if it's some kind of shocking definitive statement. It's due diligence, and just a part of the puzzle. That's as fair as anything, especially considering how little inside information the usual suspects in the national or local media seem to have regarding the Bills decisions. See: Chan Gailey, Buddy Nix, Mario Williams, et al. I'm just being pragmatic.
  25. Grain of salt here: Reuben Frank ‏@RoobCSN OK, now THIS is interesting. I'm told by league source Eagles still planning to meet tomorrow with McCoy and Marrone. So there's that. Retweeted by Ian Rapoport
