  1. Aside from creating a strawman, why does this issue need to be clouded by attacks on the mythical PC police? No one in this thread fits that description. And if you can't understand why the term "Redskin" is intrinsically offensive, then you're being either willfully obtuse or intellectually bankrupt. Acknowledging a team name is a literally a racial epithet doesn't equate to a loss of freedom
  2. If Ryan Fitzpatrick had "a little more accuracy" we probably wouldn't be looking for another QB.
  3. Targeting Driver would be like targeting Andre Reed in 2001. Jennings will be expensive as heck and I'm under the impression if he wanted to continue playing in a cold weather city at an affordable price he'd stay in Green Bay.
  4. In the past, Dennis Rodman was a regular.
  5. The Earl of Bud made a return after several years during Game 5 of the 2007 ECF against Ottawa. Being an elimination game (which the Sabres ultimately lost in OT) during the President's Trophy season, the crowd was buzzing as if it were electrically supercharged starting long before puck drop. But when the Earl of Bud was put up on the jumbotron, the already buzzing (in more ways than one) crowd absolutely erupted into a frenzy. It was as incredible moment, and I won't forget it (even though the series was a dud).
  6. I can't think of a better way to describe the pregame shows. You nailed it. However, the question that comes to mind is this: how long have been watching The View?
  7. Thanks for the updated OP with his resume--- he played DE with the Texans from 2006-09, which means he was a teammate of Mario Williams, and of course played the same position. I wonder if that was a consideration of bringing him in? Rex thinks David Lee can "fix" Sanchez? Did he see what Lee did for Fitz??
  8. I was under the impression that most teams actually use a cash-to-cap philosophy? Marv was criticized for it because it was not then a common known phrase and it made the Bills appear cheap.
  9. There's no question that I'm more pleased that the Bills are aggressively filling out their coaching staff with what appear to be intelligent choices--- but coming in 2nd is the large scale defection and dysfunction within the Jest* organization. *not a typo
  10. He basically said playing in a dome without having to worry about the elements is easier. Is that incorrect or different from what any player would think?
  11. Regarding the notion that Ryan took away playcalling duties from Pettine, from the 9/6/12 NJ Star-Ledger: “I think that’s a little overblown, it’s basically what it’s been,” the defensive coordinator said. “Again, it will depend on the opponent, and if it’s in game, sometimes it’s I’ll take first or second down and he’ll take third down. “It’s really not going to be that different from what we’ve done in the past,” Pettine added. Very interesting article from the 9/1/11 NY Daily News which details how Ryan, Pettine, and Dennis Thurman devised as a collaboration what became the Jets defense while working together in Baltimore--- interesting quote from Jim Leonhard: "Rex has an emotional side and sometimes gets a little out of control," safety Jim Leonhard says. "Pettine and D.T. are able to kind of balance him out." Damien Woody has some very positive comments about Pettine in this Buffalo News Press Coverage blog by Tim Graham from today: Woody painted an exciting picture for Bills fans. He predicted Pettine will oversee an entertaining defense, with aggressive man-to-man coverage and creative blitz packages similar to the ones that helped the Jets rank first, third, fifth and eighth in yards allowed over the past four seasons.Woody also claimed he might prefer Buffalo's defensive personnel over New York's right now."It's a great hire for Buffalo," Woody said, "because one thing he's going to do is attack the weaknesses of your team.
  12. Hackett's reaction to getting the job in Buffalo, from Syracuse.com: New Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett ready for 'chance of lifetime'
  13. That's absolutely not what he's doing. He's sanctimoniously playing "dumb" to provoke twitter followers into arguing, which he then turns into a little show. Adults would say "Pettine has reportedly been hired by the Bills", not ask the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot if Marrone is still "in play" for the Browns on Sunday evening when everyone knows the score. There's a reason he's the only reporter asking these "hard" questions, and it's not because he's Edward Murrow trying to get the story right.
  14. The latest from The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle's Sal Maiorana: Sal Maiorana ‏@salmaiorana So, all is quiet on the coordinator front. Nothing official from #Bills yet. Pettine and Hackett. Who really knows?
  15. "A little bit" is the key. It won't be a clone of the 1990-94 planbook, which is what was inferred. I've read the Syracuse offense incorporated elements of the New Orleans offense and Chip Kelly's Oregon offense as well as the K-Gun. That hybrid is interesting.
  16. With all the talk around here and on WGR, it feels like Nassib is already a Bill. He wore 12 at Syracuse, so I wonder what number he'll wear?
  17. Yes, exactly. Except not actually at all.
  18. Huh? Where did I say he ran it in Buffalo?
  19. Dear god, speaking of embarrassing... -The differences between McDaniels' and Hackett's situations and experience are like night and day, but nowhere have I said he *can't* be successful. As a matter of fact, I have repeatedly stated that he very well may succeed, I merely suggested that aside from age, the comparison is not a fair one. -I haven't made any negative comments. I have consistently said "I'm nervous about his inexperience, but remain optimistic". It is a completely natural and pragmatic reaction. To suggest otherwise is inane. -If I wanted to make negative comments, this would be the place to do so. If you don't like negative comments regarding the Bills' decision making, you have a strange way of showing it by reading this board. -If you're going to participate and accuse other posters of actions and opinions of which you disapprove, perhaps it is best to read through the entire thread and obtain context before you do so. -If having no NFL OC experience doesn't make you even a little bit anxious then you're not really paying attention. I'll hang up and listen.
  20. Sorry, I certainly didn't intend for anything to come across as mean. It is past 2am, though. I thought enough of Hackett's comments regarding Nassib in that video to transcribe them in another thread. I guess it's only logical for a new head coach to bring coaches with him that he is familiar with--- and although many of us here on TSW (myself included) are very nervous with Hackett's inexperience, I think it is going too far to assume he is going to be able to dictate the team's personnel strategy to such a degree that we draft his pet project QB. I think it's possible the Bills draft Nassib, and I wouldn't think it's the end of the world. FWIW, the player that made Syracuse's offense the juggernaut it was is Nassib. They're not talking about bringing the whole Orangemen to Western NY, it's just a few affectionate quotes about a player he coached for 3 years. It's late, and I've been thinking about Syracuse so much tonight and the past few days that I now hate the color orange.
  21. I don't think it's ridiculous that the Bills might select Nassib--- I think it's ridiculous to infer that Hackett will dictate it. They may like Nassib quite a bit, but if it's so obvious to you, then it's obvious to every NFL team. Any other team interested in Nassib is going to be on notice that they need to grab him before the Bills do. If the Bills are so locked in to Nassib that they hired Hackett to be the OC, and there's a possibility that Nassib will be drafted elsewhere, then the whole franchise is, indeed, !@#$ed. That's the ridiculous part. They may be interested in him, but there are ulterior plans in the event certain players are selected. The whole draft plan then gets shifted. It's ridiculous to think everything is so set in stone in regards to the draft.
  22. Since when does a neophyte offensive coordinator make carte blanche draft day decisions? How in the world is this "status quo? It's as far out of left field as the Bills have ever come. Utterly ridiculous.
  23. I highly doubt that a 33 year old first time NFL Offensive Coordinator is going to dictate the most crucial annual--- and perhaps franchise altering--- decision for a billion dollar corporation. It's definitely a possibility, but if the Bills select Nassib, it's going to be a decision made by consensus: Marrone, Nix, Whaley and perhaps Brandon all have more weight than Hackett.
  24. It's more difficult than ever to find players that fit in an NFL ready 3-4 alignment. Having said that, defenses are much more of a hybrid than ever before, so the distinction between 3-4 and 4-3 may be fading somewhat.
  25. Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter Uh-oh: @mortreport reports Robert Griffin III will undergo total reconstruction surgery of his right knee early Wednesday morning. Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter Griffin's recovery is projected at 6-to-8 months w/ rehabilitation that will focus on his quad strength to protect and help stabilize knee. http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2012/story/_/id/8827480/sources-robert-griffin-iii-washington-redskins-acl-lcl-surgery-ready-opener
