The Hogettes from Washington are calling it quits
Punch replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Those that disagree with you are "pussies"? I'd say that's a standard tough guy act. The part about you guys trying so hard to be offended by other poster's words and ideas--- that's ironic considering your position on the general PC police meme. -
The Hogettes from Washington are calling it quits
Punch replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Much of this post is kind of embarrassing. The "racial/ethnic victim bandwagon" card, or whatever you're saying--- it's all dripping with irony. You tough guys are trying way too hard to be offended by those that simply acknowledge a basic truth. -
Poll: Should the "Redskins" name be changed?
Punch replied to Just in Atlanta's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Yes, you are well known as a hard line politically ideological crusader. I've been consistent: the point I'm making is that in merely acknowledging it is a derogatory term, we are not welcoming an Orwellian police state to determine all future thought and/or public opinion. That was clearly being peddled by some in the other thread. Sorry. -
Poll: Should the "Redskins" name be changed?
Punch replied to Just in Atlanta's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Everyone knows the score when it comes to your opinions. You are a hard line ideologue. I'm not "whining" or derailing anything. I don't see the point of a poll, but I'm not calling for it to be closed. A racial epithet is a racial epithet, which isn't arguable. Most don't think of it as such because the name has gained a 2nd more innocuous association over time, which is also not arguable. Carry on with your crusade. I understand it in general I just don't think the result will go very far in determine whether its right or wrong to continue using the name. -

I don't argue that "multiple people" hold that opinion. I'm re-reading your eloquently written post for reference to examples of more than one and I don't see it. I'm not sure why this is hard. Many individuals hold opinions on both sides. It is a racial epithet. That is unarguable. I haven't even advocated in this thread that the NFL change it, only that the discussion be allowed without cries of a police state. It doesn't appear possible. -
Poll: Should the "Redskins" name be changed?
Punch replied to Just in Atlanta's topic in Off the Wall Archives
If this poll were aimed at the specific group that is denigrated by the term, there would stand to be an interesting result. It's safe to assume, however, that the majority of respondents do not fit that criteria based on general population figures. It's like asking fans from all 32 teams for their favorite NFL player and being surprised that a Buffalo Bill is not ranked #1. So, what's the point? -

Punch replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Honestly, I agree with this sentiment--- although there have been many overtures to replace the "offensive" Indians caricature logo over the years--- like I said, I'm not in favor of the PC police. I'm also not in favor of denying something is an historical racial epithet. "Seminoles" is a far cry from "Redskins". Is that not obvious? -

There's a clear attempt to derail the conversation into full blown conspiracy mode. All talk of a "slippery slope" is equally overstated. It's just a message board discussion, not a congressional hearing. You're right. The single opinion of one individual proves that it isn't offensive. Your post reads as someone who "gets off on being a d-bag". -

Not a single team name in this quote is a derogatory term, as is "Redskins". You guys are trying way too hard. FWIW, I'm not in favor of so-called "PC police", but I don't think that a term considered offensive to a specific minority group should be deemed "acceptable" because the majority doesn't care. At the very least, the conversation should be allowed to take place on a message board without being shouted down. -
Alex Smith might be easier to get than expected
Punch replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It sounds like you didn't actually watch the NFC Championship Game last year, eh? Alex Smith had a great game. The 49ers would have won if their punt returner didn't fumble twice in Giants' FG range--- once which allowed for the tying points in the 4th quarter and the 2nd time in OT which allowed the GW FG. I'm not a strong advocate for A. Smith, but please get the facts correct. -

You mean the relatively small and largely dispersed native american population that actually finds it offensive? You're surprised there aren't throngs of people in the streets protesting in Ashburn, VA on a regular basis? The reason many "intellectual" types take up the fight on their behalf from time to time is due to the fact that small sample of citizens that generally cannot speak loudly enough for themselves. You're building this slight thread drift into a culture war. My main point is that merely suggesting that it is indeed an offensive and derogatory name doesn't mean we need to invoke 1984, as I believe you are doing. It's a bit reactionary. I'd argue that by aggresively shooting down the very discussion, you are actually evoking Orwell's "thought police" sentiment. -

Aside from creating a strawman, why does this issue need to be clouded by attacks on the mythical PC police? No one in this thread fits that description. And if you can't understand why the term "Redskin" is intrinsically offensive, then you're being either willfully obtuse or intellectually bankrupt. Acknowledging a team name is a literally a racial epithet doesn't equate to a loss of freedom -

If Ryan Fitzpatrick had "a little more accuracy" we probably wouldn't be looking for another QB. -
Greg Jennings is a free agent after the game
Punch replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Targeting Driver would be like targeting Andre Reed in 2001. Jennings will be expensive as heck and I'm under the impression if he wanted to continue playing in a cold weather city at an affordable price he'd stay in Green Bay. -

The Earl of Bud made a return after several years during Game 5 of the 2007 ECF against Ottawa. Being an elimination game (which the Sabres ultimately lost in OT) during the President's Trophy season, the crowd was buzzing as if it were electrically supercharged starting long before puck drop. But when the Earl of Bud was put up on the jumbotron, the already buzzing (in more ways than one) crowd absolutely erupted into a frenzy. It was as incredible moment, and I won't forget it (even though the series was a dud). -
Does anybody watch any of the NFL pregame shows???
Punch replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can't think of a better way to describe the pregame shows. You nailed it. However, the question that comes to mind is this: how long have been watching The View? -
Bills Sign DL coach (Anthony Weaver) (From Jets)
Punch replied to buffalo1983's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for the updated OP with his resume--- he played DE with the Texans from 2006-09, which means he was a teammate of Mario Williams, and of course played the same position. I wonder if that was a consideration of bringing him in? Rex thinks David Lee can "fix" Sanchez? Did he see what Lee did for Fitz?? -
I was under the impression that most teams actually use a cash-to-cap philosophy? Marv was criticized for it because it was not then a common known phrase and it made the Bills appear cheap.

Punch replied to buffalo1983's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's no question that I'm more pleased that the Bills are aggressively filling out their coaching staff with what appear to be intelligent choices--- but coming in 2nd is the large scale defection and dysfunction within the Jest* organization. *not a typo -
Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse

He basically said playing in a dome without having to worry about the elements is easier. Is that incorrect or different from what any player would think? -
Bills hire Mike Pettine for Defensive Coordinator
Punch replied to Smiley Dear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Regarding the notion that Ryan took away playcalling duties from Pettine, from the 9/6/12 NJ Star-Ledger: “I think that’s a little overblown, it’s basically what it’s been,” the defensive coordinator said. “Again, it will depend on the opponent, and if it’s in game, sometimes it’s I’ll take first or second down and he’ll take third down. “It’s really not going to be that different from what we’ve done in the past,” Pettine added. Very interesting article from the 9/1/11 NY Daily News which details how Ryan, Pettine, and Dennis Thurman devised as a collaboration what became the Jets defense while working together in Baltimore--- interesting quote from Jim Leonhard: "Rex has an emotional side and sometimes gets a little out of control," safety Jim Leonhard says. "Pettine and D.T. are able to kind of balance him out." Damien Woody has some very positive comments about Pettine in this Buffalo News Press Coverage blog by Tim Graham from today: Woody painted an exciting picture for Bills fans. He predicted Pettine will oversee an entertaining defense, with aggressive man-to-man coverage and creative blitz packages similar to the ones that helped the Jets rank first, third, fifth and eighth in yards allowed over the past four seasons.Woody also claimed he might prefer Buffalo's defensive personnel over New York's right now."It's a great hire for Buffalo," Woody said, "because one thing he's going to do is attack the weaknesses of your team. -

Bills hire Mike Pettine for Defensive Coordinator
Punch replied to Smiley Dear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's absolutely not what he's doing. He's sanctimoniously playing "dumb" to provoke twitter followers into arguing, which he then turns into a little show. Adults would say "Pettine has reportedly been hired by the Bills", not ask the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot if Marrone is still "in play" for the Browns on Sunday evening when everyone knows the score. There's a reason he's the only reporter asking these "hard" questions, and it's not because he's Edward Murrow trying to get the story right. -

The latest from The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle's Sal Maiorana: Sal Maiorana @salmaiorana So, all is quiet on the coordinator front. Nothing official from #Bills yet. Pettine and Hackett. Who really knows?
