8 mil a year for any of the guys you mentioned would be a huge deal. Thats essentially the same deal VD got last year - meaning TEs which are about half as productive would be getting the same money. 5-6.5 mil a year for a guy like Boss or Miller would be what I expect, maybe less if the players get less coin with the new CBA.
-
What about guys who are already free agents? Guys like Stroud who was cut and Asougowa whose deal was voided. Are they not free to sign with a team before the current CBA expires on the 3rd? I assume teams dont want to committ money to a guy before knowing if there will be a cap/what it will be.

Buffalo Bills Front Page Story on NFL.com
High Mark replied to Aloha22's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I always preferred Chicago Style. -
He was the #1 overall recuirt coming out of HS so people have heard of him. He also isnt built like a skinny WR. ??? I didnt hear anything about this? Please explain.

So why cant Ralph leave the team to her? I always heard his fam didn't want the team when he died? PS I still think Ralph should move to the Caymans (no capitol gains taxes) and sell the team to someone, or at least die there (no death tax). If this lady moved there and inherited the team, she would pay no inheritance taxes. Makes way too much sense to me. Live in the Caribbean for 6 months, transfer ownership of the team, move back - simple as that.

Warren Sapp rates Dareus over Fairley
High Mark replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just want to reiterate that this arguement is moot. Its extremely unlikely we have to chose bewteen these two players, and even less likely we draft one of them. The reason for that is they are both very good, and the Bills only draft bad players in teh top 10. Our pick will be either Peterson, Miller, or Newton/Gabbert, and whoever it is will be the biggest bust of the draft. -
If the Bills ask for more picks to move down they would be stupid (which we all already know they are). Our team would benifit from more picks, not one pick. Hopefully the rookie cap brings more offers to the table and the Bills jsut take one of them.

Warren Sapp rates Dareus over Fairley
High Mark replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I work for the family that owns the Bucs. We have tons of signed Bucs jerseys around our office. Sapp's is the only one that isnt signed - he refused. Thats pretty lo IMO. PS: I am not suprised that Sapp likes Dareus - He plays more like Sapp did. I think that Fairley is better for us - we are going to be playing a 3-4 after all. Dont we want a more physical, stout guy more than a quick penatrator? Fairley is like Suh and Dareus is more like McCoy - Suh would make the better 5 tech. We may have a shot at that mean SOB. Besides, it is unlikely that we have to choose between one of these two. I fully expect one, but not both, to be gone. Bowers could also play into the pick. Maybe een Watt ro Jorden too. However, we will likely take Aaron Miller. -
TE is one of the most important positions on a football team. One could argue its the 2nd most important position on the offensive side of the ball. If its not 2nd, its third. TE is also one of the reasons the Bills O has sucked for so long. You are underestimating the position.

That article was much too long to read. But I got through his 5 concerns with Newton, and he didnt mention his football IQ at all. Considering thats by far and away the #1 concern with the guy - how could you leave that out? He is an intriguing prospect but much too risky for us IMO. Having not sniffed the playoffs in 11 years, Id rather trade back or just land one of the cant-miss DL guys. Build our team until there is a QB prospect worth taking, and dont pass on him then.

Bills 1st rd drafting history on front 7 of defense
High Mark replied to Typical TBD Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dont forget Ngata and Orakpo. -
Ad rather have an injured Bob Sanders than a healthy Donte Whitner... because either way George Wilson is on the field!

In the past I would have said Bills only, but the past 11 years of complete and utter SUCK and horrible and constant ineptitude have FORCED me to follow another team at least part time so that I can actually enjoy professional football again, which I started doing this year. That team is the Broncos, and the only reason is Tim Tebow. Say what you want about him, that he is going to suck or that he is going to be great, but either way he is such a fun player to watch, and a guy you can really root for. Those last few games he started were exciting as hell, I havent had that much fun watching a Bills game since the 20th century.

Apparently you missed most of this season.

It’s somewhat strange for you to say that he struggles to get off blocks and doesn’t use his hands effectively, and then go on to say he is great against the run. How can he be great against the run if he is always blocked? Your statement is contradictory. Saying this is especially strange because he is great at both getting off of blocks and using his hands. He has a pass rush but IMO that’s not the best part of his game, he isn’t much of a speed rusher at all which most people like to see. He is more of a physical Jared Allen type as opposed to a Dwitght Freeny or D Ware. I forget where I read it, but It was either from a former NFL scout or one of the ESPN Scouts Inc guys (not McTan), the guy had written an article about how Bowers has the unique ability to have his upper body going one way and his lower body going another. He likened it to Bruce Smith, FWIW.

Are you sure about that? I thought players were out but draft picks weren’t. The NFL views the draft separately from the FA part of the offseason (the reason why we are still having a draft with no CBA). Teams are going to have draft picks in 2012 regardless of what happens to the CBA. It was my understanding they could still trade them. This article says you can trade them http://www.chiefscoalition.com/Chiefs/news-rumors/3972-2011-nfl-draft-odd-bedfellows-the-cba-and-trading-draft-picks.html Same with this one, under the title "The value of 2011 picks will increase" The last sentence implies trading picks to stockpile 2011 picks http://www.sidelinescouting.com/columns/cba.shtml

If anyone wants to know the story behind rolling Toomers Corners, Legend has it…. That years ago, teams used to take trains to away games (That part we know is true). But this game was different,. This game was Alabama-Auburn. Early one morning, the morning before Alabama was set to arrive in Auburn for their game that following day, one of Auburns fraternities, SAE, went out to the train tracks and greased down the rails a few miles in each direction of the train station. This caused the train to blow past the station until finally coming to a stop a good 5 miles outside of town. With no other option, the Alabama players were forced to walk in the sweltering mid-day heat, carrying all of their clothing and gear, back into town where their hotel was located, on Toomers Corners. After the shutout Auburn victory, members of SAE and other Tiger faithful “rolled” down the Toomers Corners, where the Alabama team was staying, to jest the beaten Crimson Tide…….. Correct me if I am wrong, that’s the story I always heard.

Ran into Aaron Maybin last night
High Mark replied to Estelle Getty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybin didnwill be out of the league by this time next year, he would actually be able to last that long. The fact remains that Maybin didnt show anything in college to justify a 5th round draft selection let alone a top 10 one. He was never good and was a bust the second he declared. -
Mathews is a guy you cant explain other than saying he is a football player. The same can be said for guys like Jim Leonard. They are small, not very fast, not very strong, dont fit the mold, but are always around the ball and making plays. Not all players have the measurables but they have the instincts and drive to get it done. Our best performers this year all fit the mold (KW, Freddie, Fitz) Ill take a player like that over some paper warrior every day of the week.

Miami is at 15, but also traded their 2nd rounder to Den for Marshall. Without looking at teh chart, and simply thinking to myself, their 2012 1st and 2011 3rd seems about fair, althought I would take jsut their 2012 1st. Miami is falling apart, and will likely eat it vrs the Patsie and Jest twice next year. They could easily be drafting top 10 (just like us, maybe even higher than us) in 2012. Two top 10 picks could be enough to trade up for Luck if a team that already has a QB is at #1 already. If not another top 10 pick sure wont hurt this teams rebuild. Especially this year, when at 15 we could easily get a guy like Watt/C.Jorden/Clayborne/Quinn/Carimi. Who is to say Watt wont become the best 5 tech in this class anwyays? Better than Fairley or Dareus would be. Quinn would be a great pick at that spot too. I like it and I do it! EDIT: I looked up the cahrt, and according to it we would be getting robbed by making that trade (this yrs 3rd and next yrs 1st). I still like the opportunities though. Maybe even take next years 2nd instead of this years 3rd. Im just thinking out loud, but I think losing a few spots in the 1st is no big deal, and gaining 2 more picks from a division rival could be huge. I see Luck becoming an Aaron Rodgers type QB so getting him is my long term goal - and 12 spots in the first round is not a lot to concede.

We have confirmed that Clemson junior defensive end Da’Quan Bowers, rated as the number two available prospect on our board, underwent minor knee surgery after the team’s bowl game to repair an injured meniscus in his knee. Bowers initially suffered the injury midway through the 2010 campaign yet played the entire season. No ill effects are foreseen and Bowers has been training full bore in preparation for the combine. Makes it more interesting. Imagine if he were 100% healthy. I see Bowers being dominant in teh NFL. http://www.draftinsider.net/blog/?p=4627

I would remove Peterson, Miller, and Ndamadookie from your list all together. Considering we only need to have 3 players on our round 1 big board, I would move Darues down as I prefer Fairley or even Bowers.
-
He may very well be the best run defender of the bunch (Fairley/Dares/Watt/Jordan/etc). He had a ton of sacks this year but I was more impressed with his TFL #s. He plays great team defense on the other side of the LOS. He is in control.

Wow, a partially torn meniscus… that’s career ending right there.
