  1. "All things being equal" you always take the bigger player, no doubt.
  2. One of the ironies of Chud's firing is that there is a belief in Cleveland that he didn't play Hoyer until he was forced to by injuries to the other QBs. It's actually one of the reasons leaking out for his firing. People here talk about the possibility that Buffalo would have beaten Cleveland had EJ not got injured but Hoyer was looking damn good against the Bills D before he got injured so I'm not thinking we would have won that game in any circumstances. I don't know much about Chud but I know that Carolina's offense improved after he left and that he seems to mix one good year with one bad year as an OC. It'll be interesting to see where he ends up. On a tangent, it's sad to see Chud fired. He apparently was an Ohio kid and would set up the TV outside on cold December days when watching the Browns on TV. He would also eat dog biscuits because he thought of himself as a member of the Dawg Pound. Chud was a dyed-in-wool Browns fan from childhood.
  3. Coming from you, the Clown Prince of TSW, I can only say: 268 -> (+2) -> 270 -> (+30) -> 300 +483 -> (-2) -> +481 -> (-30) -> +451 Add 751 Explanation: Adjust by 2, and then by 30. B. Rename the first addend, and then the second. 268 -> (-7) -> 261 -> (-10) -> 251 +483 -> (+7) -> +490 -> (+10) -> +500 Add 751 Explanation: Adjust by 7, and then by 10.
  4. And on the other end of the spectrum from Washington is their divisional rivals, the New York Giants, a model of patience, loyalty, and consistency in a league where those virtues are rare. Pittsburgh and Baltimore are also very stable franchises. It makes you wonder about stability and success, whether it's a chicken and egg thing.
  5. Here's something that people aren't taking into account. The reason that many teams don't use two 3-down linebackers is because they don't have two that they can count on, not because you don't put two linebackers on the field in passing situations. The 49ers play both Bowman and Willis on virtually every down, even obvious passing situations. The Panthers play both Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis on virtually every down. To me this means that you don't devalue any 3-down linebacker in this draft (ie-Mosley) because we already have Kiko. You simply concede that the linebacker is maybe a tad less of a pass defender than another DB but that he's a much better run defender. Having two 3-down linebackers is a huge asset, similar to having two starting quality tight ends which enable you to go double tight end.
  6. Be advised that there's a chance that his reply to you will take the form of a complex algorithm.
  7. True but the cost is also reduced so it's a valid path from a risk-reward standpoint. And I don't absolve Nix for passing up on Dalton, Kaepernick and Russell Wilson. I'll forgive him if EJ pans out though.
  8. Or Peyton's throwing guru, David Cutcliffe. I said this about Fitz and I'll say it again. There is no harder job in the NFL than quarterback. Most NFL QBs make really good money. So why would an NFL QB NOT spend enormous resources on professional development? If I was an NFL QB I'd spend my offseasons with guys like Tom House, David Cutcliffe, George Whitfield, Terry Shea, Chris Weinke, etc. I'd study with all of these guys and try to find a little kernel of benefit from each of them. I thought Tim Tebow should be doing this and I hope he is.
  9. That's a bit surprising too because Trestman has loads of NFL experience and was Head Coach in the CFL for many years. He seems like a smart guy too so he being weak in game management is surprising to me. Also the Bears were bottom 3 in points allowed and yards allowed so that didn't help their playoff prospects.
  10. It seems like defense is a lost art in college football. Guys running wide open for both teams. It's my impression that lots of the bowl games have been like this.
  11. Hopefully Hilliard's dismissal was based on poor job performance. Of course if that's true, the downside is that Hilliard was a bad hire.
  12. I thought that there was a shoulder injury that contributed to his regression? Just a faint memory.
  13. I kind of agree. The decay of the Bears defense (you knew sooner or later that the Urlacher/Briggs/Tillman regime would come to an end) was offset by excellent offensive coaching by Marc Trestman. Had Lovie still presided, it's very possible that both the offense and the defense would have seriously sucked. For his career it was probably better that he was fired last year after a good season instead of after a train wreck season at the helm of the 2013 Bears.
  14. I don't have the mental endurance for your exercise but I'm serious when I say that I'm very impressed. :worthy:
  15. I definitely don't like the fact that Hackett is both OC and QB Coach. You mix that with a young QB, and a young WR group and it's a recipe for underwhelming offensive performance.
  16. I'm pretty sure you shorted him a vowel or two. Seriously, I know that Star had a great season however I wonder how much the NYC media effect will have on the voting.
  17. People were saying that Ray Lewis was over the hill after the Ravens lost Tony Siragusa and Sam Adams. He found the fountain of youth after the Ravens added Haloti Ngata and Kelly Gregg. Linebacking is very important for good run defense but having a stout defensive line to play behind is just as important if not more so. There was a thread last week about drafting D-line talent although the OP actually was talking about adding a two-gap run stopper. The Bills seem to use a one-gap scheme but there are defenses that run a hybrid with a two-gapper in the center of it.
  18. I wondered if part of the Hilliard dismissal was to placate the bloodlust of an unhappy fan base. It could be argued that HIlliard was sacrificed to make others more safe. I certainly hope this isn't the case but I keep thinking about the release of Tashard Choice after the Atlanta game. Anyways, I don't know if any more change is afoot but I'd still like to see a full time QB Coach. I'm skeptical of Hackett's age to begin with and the fact that he has two titles makes me even more doubtful.
  19. And in fact Rodgers has talked about how Mike McCarthy extensively revamped his mechanics to make him a better thrower.
  20. Out drinking? No, I'm sober for better or worse. My point remains the same. I'll take the bigger linebacker only if he's the better linebacker. Size in and of itself means little to nothing as far as I'm concerned. Actually I don't usually watch college football. I do watch condensed games from after the Super Bowl up until the April Draft. I understand your point about 'Bama players. I try to judge on a case by case basis so I don't prejudice against (for instance) Florida State pass rushers or Texas Longhorns or anything like that. My problem with 'Bama players is only that the rosters are so talented it's sometimes hard to evaluate individuals. I remember feeling this way when USC had Matthews, Cushing, Maualuga, Moala, and Moore on their defense. In a 2 year span they had something like 11 players drafted from their defense. When all of your teammates are winning their matchups, it makes player evaluation of each individual more difficult IMO.
  21. I think a lot of the hedging has to do with the fact that EJ missed over 6 regular season games this year after missing half the preseason. Besides stunting his development that makes people uneasy about his durability. I'm not the least bit surprised that many are withholding judgement on EJ, it's the sensible thing to do. I think a lot more people would be definitive about EJ one way or the other had he played the full schedule. However I also think it's ridiculous to write him off as many are doing.
  22. Yeah that was disappointing. The Bills had good special teams previous to this season, the new regime thinks they've upgraded the talent, and yet special teams gets worse? And then Marrone says they need better "core special teamers?"
  23. Ah but you've forgotten that Rex' has a tattoo of his wife wearing a Sanchez jersey! http://www.9news.com...ryan-tattoo.jpg
