Rodgers DOES seem to me like the perfect QB to maximize Metcalf, in that he throws elite slants, boundary fades, and back shoulders. Rodgers will wear out single coverage if he's got a legit "#1" he syncs up with. I don't know how much RPO Arthur Smith intends to implement, but that seems like one way to give Rodgers and Metcalf the stage to shine. (Also relies on a decent running game; stay tuned there.) Am I remembering correctly that Rodgers historically hates pre-snap motion? I'm curious how that aligns with his OC, and how ANY contemporary NFL OC could justify LESS pre-snap motion these days. I get that simplicity can allow a team to play freer and faster, but I believe you gotta try to give your guys some easy reads and manufactured advantages whenever possible. (Remember when Pittsburgh's last franchise QB eventually hated being under center and running play-action off of being under center, because he didn't like to turn his back to the D? How did that serve Pitt's offense down the back stretch of his career?)

He'd lose $5m if he doesn't play. It might be worth it if he played at a premium position with a longer shelf life. I don't think he'd ever make that $5m back in a second contract. I'd be very hesitant as a GM to sign an almost 27 year old RB who played less than half the snaps two seasons ago to a top of the market deal.

Why presume the numbers won't be better? He has tons of room to improve in the passing game in particular. You are giving him LeVeon Bell first-team-All-Pro cred like he has been catching 75-85 passes per year and stoning blitzers. And even then with Bell teams saw that the one RB that pulled that and got paid ended up returning rusty and unmotivated and was subsequently a mega-bust of a signing. Cook's best bet is to prove he is a team player and is improving so teams feel comfortable giving him more guarantees in free agency. Saquon did that and got paid in free agency despite a down year statistically in 2023. I'd be surprised if Cook thinks he's going to be worse this season like some of you just presume he will.

Agree with this. LB is one of the few spots where I could see us in the market for a veteran cut. Spector gets hurt every year and is in the last year of his deal, so they won’t hesitate to move on if they think a fading vet will be an upgrade this season. Bernard getting hurt is probably the biggest risk on the defense. Plus there could be a slight trade market for Spector - meaning maybe you get a low 7th rounder for him instead of cutting him outright. I have no idea if this Bungles guy would be an upgrade over Spector in 2025, but if any of the Football Knowers on the board have a take, please weigh in.

I’d never heard of these two, so I did a little research. They are two earnest lefties who base their hyper local protest strategy on the earnest righty Tea Party tactics of the Obama years. They are no more communist than the Tea Party acrivists were fascists. This name calling is just childish.

No doubt the most expensive way of acquiring a player is trading draft assets and then having to play that player top of the market value. The fact that the Bills didn't draft his replacement in this year's draft made me think Beane would either give him a new contract extension or let him play out his fourth year. Maybe he was offered something for Cook before the draft but it wasn't anything higher than a day three pick. I really wouldn't know what to do if I was Cook. I think I'm playing this season no matter what. On one hand I know that if it's best case scenario in the 2025 season like you laid out then his contract would be even bigger if signed next year with the salary cap going up. However, you also face the risk of injury or declined production if our offensive line isn't magically healthy throughout the year like they were the last two. At his age I pry would bet on myself. As his agent I would advise him to get an extension with $25m or so in guaranteed money. You're set financially for life.

This topic is only 7 pages long and you're already ignoring points that others have already made. Again, the "whatever the market will bear" doesn't necessarily equate with "fair market price." There are millions of people who helped the NFL build itself into what it is today... now many of those people are priced out. What is a fair market price? So you can afford NFL Sunday Ticket, and before that GamePass. That's nice. Not everyone can. It's quite a coincidence that the people who think this is much ado about nothing are the same people who can afford to pay the price. As I said upthread, I can afford to pay to watch games and I do. But I don't like the direction that the owners are choosing and I will walk away when/if it gets to a certain point. And I don't blame those who choose to pirate games. Some of them are protesting what they believe to be unfair business practices and believe that piracy is a legitimate reaction to greed. I don't disagree with them. The late Jim Irsay paid $4 million for a guitar. These owners own private yachts and airplanes, private art collections, etc. That is absolutely their prerogative but if you are not content to simply be wealthy but aspire to be ultra-wealthy... well you just might possibly be greedy... or do you think greed doesn't exist? There's a difference between wanting to maximize your investment and being so selfish that you are price gouging and alienating those customers who helped you build your business.
