Why all the love for Brian Waters?

Why all the fuss over this guy?

He was a backup guard in the pro bowl by default. By subtracting those mentioned below, at best he's the sixth rate guard in the AFC... and, in reality, closer to the middle of the pack. The pro bowl votes cast by the writers had Faneca, Dielman, Mankins, Hamitlon, Steinbach, and Grubbs as the finalists. Whitworth (Cincy), Kemoeatu (Steelers), and Gallery should be given consideration after that, as left guards.

Waters is 32 years old. What can he do to bring the OL to the a level they need to be at to be a top 10 offense, or better? So, for 1, maybe 2 years he might be able to provide a level of play at LG as good, or better, than the Bills have had in the past 8 years. So what, that ain't saying much... they've all been stiffs. If you expect big things from the offense, then you need to think bigger than bringing in Waters at LG. Continuing to bring in average players as starters, will deliver average results. If you're happy with 6 to 9 wins a season, Waters is your man.

Waters would SURELY be an upgrade over Dockery. He plays the game with a mean streak for starters. He can take care of the man in front of him and get to the second level consistently. He's a hard nosed run blocker, but also shows good footwork in pass protection. He's not just another fat guy that we would have on our line, he actually does his job and does it well.

Average players? The guy is a 4-time Pro Bowler and a 2-time First-Team All Pro...

I ain't schittin... look it up. He wasn't even in the top 5 vote getters this year.

Pro bowl? So what. How soon we forget Ruben Brown was a fixture in the pro bowl for years... and undeservedly so.

WTF? You used pro bowl voting to explain why Waters isn't an elite guard in your first post!

Doesn't Brown's career after he left here give you some pause? He was a fixture at LG for the Bills and went on to play well for the Bears. Meanwhile the Bills subbed in a revolving cast of has-beens and never-weres to try to replace him. Just because you're stuck with the talking points of 2003 doesn't mean the rest of us need to be there with you.

Buddy, we need a guard on our roster who can actually block. Right now, who are our starting guards? Exactly-so waters would be a huge UPGRADE at this point.

Oh really? Who was on the OL while Brown was here. Hull left after 1996 and Fina was to his left. There was a mishmash of QB's that weren't good enough such as Collins, Johnson and Flukie. Antowain Smith was nothing to write home about at RB.

Hummm....here we go again. Ruben was a far greater player than you or many others are willing to give him credit for. Plus he was (and probably still is a great guy). His blowup during his last year in Buffalo was long overdue. Ruben may not have made every play, and towards the end of his time in Buffalo, he seemed to be getting beat more often by big strong tackles, but he was overall, far better than any guard we've had since.

In fact, before him, we had the likes of Lacina, Crofts, Parker, etc.

Ruben was a very good, if not great player.....

Okay how many pro bowls did Dockery go to? Oh none , Waters is a three time Pro Bowl guard, he is also a two time all pro selection. He is a significant upgrade for the line that needs veteran players. Also why would you say only 2 years? Offensive lineman usually are productive past 35 years old.
