The Obama infomercial

yes, only those in the new 36% and $39.6% brackets get a bump, and then it goes from 15% to 20%. Anyone under $250K pays the same as before.

Well that's just !@#$ing wrong. Why should "rich" people pay higher cap gains tax than "poor" people? It's bad enough that the income tax rate is so much higher.

Does it really matter? Biden now lowers the figure to $150K. But what the hell, those people making $150K are rich too. With a $1.5 Trillion spend increase for his programs, they will have to tax everyone making over $50K.

Of course Obama's tax and spend policies will not work as proven by history. You need money to make money, everyone knows that. If the incentive is gone and capital is taxed at outrageous rates, the money will flow overseas where the returns are better. Look how Ireland turned it's economy around by lowering corporate taxes.

You Obama supporters are ignorant and uninformed. Hope, Change, Hope, Change. The only change you'll get with Obama is a change back to 1976 and even worse.

That was a mistake by Biden. It was, and continues to be $250K for working families and $200K for singles.

I know it's not going to happen much on the campaign trail, but I sure hope once he's in his message to people is "live within your means" rather than "the government will take care of you as long as you vote me in again".

Actually, it is happening. If you watch any of Obama's rally speeches lately he talks about the financial mess and Wall Street, blah, blah. Then he continues with... but let's be honest many of us have lived beyond our means, many of us here have to be more careful with our spending, we have to take some responsibility blah blah (I'm paraphrasing of course). So, he's already begun to stress that Americans need to live within their means.

I think a few things gets lost in all the rhetoric. First, both candidates have put forth plans, but in no way does that mean this is what will happen upon either's election. I would fully expect the President-elect to have to alter his plan based upon the situation and the Congress he has to deal with upon taking office

Secondly, both candidates make bold statements that are often misleading, and almost always pander to the Middle Class. Why? Because that's what politicians - all politicians - do when they want to get elected.

Finally, both candidates put forth their tax plans long before the financial crisis. Both have been asked several times how their plans would change in light of the financial crisis. Both have been unwilling to address any major changes in their respective plans. However, if anyone thinks they won't have to dramatically alter a tax plan that was prepared prior to the financial mess, well... you're just naive.

Bottom line, specifics are less important than ideology and party history, because in the upcoming months the specifics of each plan will almost certainly change (which is probably why neither candidate gets too specific) but the ideas of the party they represent won't. In that regard, Republicans have historically favored a top down economic theory while Dems have favored building the economy from the bottom up. Which is better is a matter of discussion, but that's what you'll get, if I had to guess.

So, with regards to taxes and the economy, do you want a candidate that favors tax cuts and breaks to the higher classes and large corporations, thinking that will spawn jobs and spending and a strong economy? If so, I'd say vote McCain. If you want a candidate that favors tax cuts and breaks for the lower classes and smaller business, thinking that will generate more jobs and spending and a strong economy, vote Obama. But, IMO, this talk about socialism and spreading the wealth and other such nonsense is just that... nonsense. Smoke and mirrors.

Funny you say that. Most wealthy liberals say they support higher taxes but then they hide their money in off shore accounts and hire the best CPA's to minimize their payments, setup B.S. corporations and find other loop holes. That is with their rights but come on, they are all hypocrites. I have not once seen a left wing higher tax supporting jackas$ once write a check to uncle sam because they feel they are not being taxed enough.

Liberals = Hypocrisy

Lets not forget Al...

That link is from CNN. So by default, it is the unvarnished truth.

We haven't heard much from Al lately, about his mansion, his jet, his Zinc mine holdings, his OxyPetroleum holdings. Kerry's been pretty quiet, too. Oh well, ketchup sells well in hard times...

And yours were...?

There are plenty of "charities" that are not deductible for tax purposes, so you don't see those. Two years ago a "adopted" a family for Christmas and spent around $3,000 on them. The agency that brokered the match was not a qualified charity, so no deduction.

Not everyone donates only because they want a break on their taxes. You have no way of knowing what anyone's true contributions are.

That was a mistake by Biden.

What about the generated international crisis that is coming by the end of June? The one that has as many as five different scenarios? The one that will receive a response from the Obama administration that will make absolutely no sense to anyone?

Another mistake? Because if my family is in danger, and Biden knows something, I'd appreciate it if he'd spell out those five scenarios instead of waiting for us to stand around dumbfounded by their response.

We'll know is 8 months. If something happens we'll want to know what he knew and when he knew it (wow, that sound eerily familiar) and if nothing happens...well than it was just a "mistake".

If blood is spilled on American soil in their first six months, Maobama and Plugs will be lucky to escape to Kenya alive.

The only people confused by Obama's tax plan seem to be the people who wouldn't be voting for him anyway. It's not confusing. He hasn't been lying to anyone. He's been on message for months. His plan has been under the microscope for months. Families making less than $250 and individuals making less than $200k will do better under his plan. Some of the very people criticizing his plan will do better under his plan. You're not convincing anyone to vote for McCain by pretending to not understand it. It's OK, if Obama wins you'll get the tax break just like the rest of us.

I'm around the $3,500/yr along with volunteering my time. But that's not the point. If the government now wants to TAKE that $3,500 I usually give to charities then that's going to hurt both myself and those charities.

If anyone wants to find out where this economic plan of Obama's is going just look at socialist Europe. The proof is in the pudding and all you Obama supporters can't see the pudding through the wipe cream. The only thing you see is the big fat sweet cherry on top that you can't wait to bite into.

If this Marxist is elected, I wounder how long it will take before buyers remorse sets in when the almighty Obama drives this country into the ground.

What stuns me is that McCain's campaign has spent so much time in the past few weeks using all of their interview "air-time" tearing apart Obama that I could not even tell you what THEIR plan for our country is.

Maybe the Dems are winning because they are using their time to actually offer ideas. People who won't vote for Obama still won't, but there is a huge independent and undecided block that is hearing "tear down" rhetoric from one side and ideas on how to improve(?) the country on the other. Is it any wonder why Independents are trending Dem this year?

McCain should sue his campaign staff when this election is over.

"Frank" just some guy in his book - Happens to be "Frank Marshall Davis" known communist and Obama's mentor

Hell this list goes on forever and he's only 47 years old. Hell, same age as me. I know I didn't hang out with any left wing radicals in High School or College like this guy did. Have you guys read his book? It's pretty telling where his ideology is and it's only been expanded with age.

You Obama supporters are not being objective about this guy. People want to believe what they here and he does sound great with his polished speeches and rhetoric, but you need to look inside the man and what those words really mean. If elected, this will be the single biggest disaster in U.S. Presidential history.

A Pelosi - Reed - Obama controlled government will be unfettered bringing about a progressive liberal socialist ideology that will be hard to overturn.

No problem, with Obama in White House, I'm sure he'll extend unemployment in perpetuity. No workie for a long time and collecting off the system. As long as you fat cats are stilling paying your taxes.

This is exactly what I was talking about above. All I hear are desperate (yes desperate, I know hundreds of people, a couple are real scumbags, does that make me a scumbag?) attempts to discredit Obama, tell my we SHOULD NOT elect him, scare me into not voting for him, but in return I am offered no reasons that McCain deserves my vote either.

Obama has come off point to deflect the criticism and then gets back to his message, which, like it or not, people are responding to. McCain's campaigns point has been to present the criticism and not much else.

It seems evident that people are looking for a plan moving forward. And Obama's plan, flawed as it is is the only one that has been put before people since the last debate.
