Stuff to do in Buffalo- places to eat.

Yet for stark, sensationalist purpose, you saw fit to mention Mogadishu.

Back to the issue you tried to deflect - is Chippawa a safe place for out-of-towners who don't know the lay of the land?

You don't live in Bflo. - why did you stick your nose into this in the first place? I don't live there either, since 1978 - I merely posed a question about folks being advised to go to a particular section of town.

The world is a dangerous place. Keep watching the news, lock your doors, don't talk to strangers and whatever else makes you feel more safe. I will choose to live

I sure was - when I was young and unknowing. As I aged - and was robbed, swindled, shoved around, cheated, lied to - and that was just the various governments with the power to jail me if I didn't dance when they said dance - let alone actions by my fellow citizens...I wised up.

Where the hell did you grow up?

While I prefer to live, I have to admit I enjoyed your response.

I'm glad you choose to live. Are you going off again to trek the globe again in search of some more absinthe, or some other valuable goal?

I DO live in WNY. I have never been a victim of crime while on Chippewa, Allen Street, or the Elmwood Village.

I once had my car vandalized in 1999 at the Regal movie theater on Elmwood. No one should ever go there again EVER.

One Sunday morning at a grocery store I worked at, showing up before it was open for business, punks with nylon stocking masks broke in through the roof overnight, and one of them stuck a revolver into my temple. Shoved me over to the produce cooler and pushed me in. The morning produce clerk - she was 18 years old same as me - was already in there.

We ate grapefruit while listening to them whack the daylights out of the Assistant Manager until he coughed up the safe combination. We were deposed at Precinct 13 on Hertel Ave. I couldn't make a positive identification, but I'm still pretty sure they were 2 of my many N. Buffalo guappo friends I grew up with. :P

Needless to say, I have been an armed citizen ever since.

My fiancee and I will be going up to Buffalo for the game against the Jets on Nov 2, and I'm interested to get out and look at things in Buffalo. I realize it is probably like any other midwest city (I live in Lansing, MI) but there are probably some nice interesting restaurants etc. If I can't find enough to do in Buffalo she's going to bug me to go to Toronto, bleh.

I would like to see Niagara Falls again (haven't been in forever, I was born in Buffalo but we didn't live there long). The Maid of the Mist probably is shut down for the year since it'll be so cold, right?

Of course I'll want to go to the Ralph early to get tons of photos etc since I've never been. Probably go see Old Fort Niagara. We'll be there Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday, any suggestions? Also where should I go to get info about tailgating for TBD?

I would say go to Hertel AVE....lots of nice restaurants there

I can't wait to get back on the road! In search of absinthe, Czech girls, culture, nightlife, and other life experiences!

Hear me now, believe me later....

Stay here

Eat here

The combined romance & ambiance of those two venues will give you carte blanche the rest of the weekend. They are also equidistant from BuffTown's two hottest nitespot neighborhoods - the 'Chip-strip' & Allentown. The hotel concierge can fill-in all the blanks.

Now since I have no idea what you and 'she-who-must-be-entertained' like to do, try some of these...

Frank Lloyd Wright (if you like architecture, also check the links under 'news & events')

Seneca Niagara Casino (slots, tables, entertainment, free 'booze while ya loose', & puts you close to the falls)

Albright Knox (if you like Warhol, Jackson Pollock, et al - and 'Gusto At The Gallery' makes it free on Fridays)

Niagara Wine Trail (who doesn't like wine?)

Shanghai Red's (on the lake, and puts you close to the new erie harbor canal development site)

RootFive ('way out' in Hamburg, but great food, on the lake too, & might run into a few Bills players here)

Don't know when The Maid of the Mist stops sailing, but if it's still going when you're here, it is the ONLY way to see The Falls!

BTW - if you want the best wings in Buffalo, it's Gabriel's Gate on Allen Street.

Listen to the Senator. He knows what he is talking about. If you do some of what he suggested, you will have a great weekend.

Steve's Ox Roast is a great stop not far from the stadium.

I love that place. Haven't been there in years, but used to go all the time. My grandfather lived around the corner and I spent a lot of time with him. Making me hungry...

The Senator has it nailed...assuming money is no object. Those places are expensive by Buffalo standards. (Pocket change by NYC standards.) I would add one more cultural activity...seeing Lance Diamond at the Elmwood Lounge.
