I'm not comprehending the hype...seriously...it looked like a goddamn Michael Jackson concert with people yelling and crying their eyes out. It's like everyone threw their brains out the window on the drive to the stadium.

No, they just drank the grape Kool-Aid with a hint of burnt almonds at the gates.

After all is said and done, and after watching it again, with due credit given to the spin people, I honestly don't think Obama's speech was Obama-e enough. It probably doesn't matter, but it certainly wasn't as good as some of the others in the past, in terms of "hitting the high note". I'm not saying it wasn't good, I am saying it wasn't anywhere near what I expected. I have seen him do 4-5 other ones that were better, IMO, and this is the big one.

I wonder why? Perhaps too many chefs in the kitchen? It just seemed way to dogmatic and sounded more like Hillary than Obama. Perhaps I am immune? I don't know if this was intentional, maybe it was. But, I would think he would want to go with what got him there, and even exceed that. Along the lines of "why does it matter if people say his speeches lack substance, aren't they the thing that got him here"?

Normally when he's on, its like the other candidates don't even exist(of course the next day is a different story). I have no idea why they got away from that, and kept bringing up McCain. I would think the last thing he would want to do was put a straw McCain on the stage with him.

Oh, and there's no doubt that McCain has made his VP choice. His people pulled this lame "we were gonna release it tonight but thought better of it to let Obama have his night" higher standards BS. As if they expect Obama to let McCain have his, or the rest of to not see how phony they are being. This was a political mistake in my opinion, regardless of being the right thing to do in terms normal life. They should have announced the VP right after the speech and stole the news cycle or done/said nothing at all. But, instead they come off as phony or stupid, or both, take your pick. The great weakness of "Rapid Response"....

I'm curious...exactly what is it about America, that you love, are you afraid an Obama Presidency will change?

Please, be specific.

I'll answer for him, Socialist, Socialist, Liberal, Liberal, Stalinist, Marxist, blah blah blah, Messiah, blah blah blah, he doesn't wear a flag pin, blah blah blah, his middle name is Hussein, blah blah blah.

Meanwhile the McCain camp ran campaign ads before Obama's speech

As if they expect Obama to let McCain have his

I expect Obama to run ads just like McCain did

Oh let me tell you...I work/live in Australia...A great country don't get me wrong...but as an American there are some things here that drive me nuts and I can see the US going down their road, some examples:

1. Taxes - Anyone earning over $75,000 pays 50% on top of a GST tax of 10%...No joke..Why ..Universal Healthcare

2. Gun Control - No semiautmatic rifles, pump shotguns, strict pistol laws..Registration and Licensing for everything, police can check your premises anytime.

3. Liberal courts and weak criminal sentancing

4. They just elected Kevin Rudd here...a democrat by Australian standards and this place is going straight down the tubes...No way he gets re-elected.

You're probably right in that the speech seeming weaker than his typical speeches probably won't matter when you've got the cult of personality already forming/ formed around him. Watching CNN after the speech, I thought the chick in the blue (Campbell Brown?) was going to have to excuse herself as she could barely contain the moans of ecstasy she was clearly experiencing.

Obama has been campaigning as an "agent for change", a new type of politician, and able to work across the aisle, for the past 10 or so months. The attacks on McCain sure did look an awful lot like a typical liberal Democratic politician. It'll be interesting to see how his "message of change" holds up in what is looking to be set up as a pretty good old-fashioned mud-slinging donnybrook.

If he can maintain the aura of change, he wins; if he comes across as more of the same-old same-old, then the Dems have found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory once again.

I agree...It was a good speech but not one of substance...I'm not the only one who thinks this...We watched it at work and we all came away with the same thought...HOW will he do this...There's no substance to his plans..No specifics. That is Obama's biggest downfall.....He talks great but says little.

Do me a favor, don't ever answer for me again. Because you aren't even close. Find me a post where I've said anything about him and his lack of a flag pin.

He was quite specific on his proposals. How much detail do you expect in a speech? "I will take 3.27 million from the Farmers Pig Slop Nutrition Fund to pay for the 2nd grade Reading is Fundamental Project". Nobody gives that type of speech from either party.

He reminded Democrats what was at stake this election, and why we can't afford another term of Bush policies. He fleshed out what he meant by "change".

This is intellectually dishonest because you can't declare Bush a moron (and I'm sure you have), and yet also declare anyone that comes after him in the white house will continue whatever policies he instituted. I don't know anyone in my circle who thinks McCain = Bush.

Meh, my dad associates McCain with Bush. My dad is also a lifelong Democrat (textbook definiation of Reagan Democrat), who first voted for Goldwater in 64 but his first Democratic vote for President was Kerry in 2004 because he hates Bush

That said, he's no fan of Obama either (voted for Hillary in the PA primary -- tho he won't admit to it, just said that white people and the elderly voted for Hillary and since he's both he told me to guess )

Don't think this will swing my Dad's vote to McCain. My mom, maybe. But she hasn't voted since Nixon in 72

Myself, I still plan on voting for Bob Barr

Uh, you got a problem with how my Dad votes?

Seriously dude, you have the sarcastic smiley. I was making a serious post about how the people both campaigns are targeting will likely vote

I am sorry... Didn't mean it like that... Probably I geared it more towards your mother... It is really disappointing she hasn't voted since Nixon... Nothing with the way your father votes... He votes!

Again... Sorry.

Oh OK. I see what you're getting at. Should have phrased it better tho

But trust me, my Dad (the Reagan Democrat), my older brother (the Christian Conservative), and I (the Libertarian/Black Sheep) have all tried to get her involved. But she cares more about her 3 guys than the other 300 million people in the US
