I see many positives about this team, and I see some very good things happening. This is a damn good team. Observations: 1. The o-line played damn well for the most part against a good Pats D. Hear that everyone? THEY PLAYED WELL! 2. Travis hit the holes he had fast and hard and got good yards. 3. Drew threw the ball well for the most part. His best game since last year. 4. London' Fletcher's roughing call was complete BS. 5. Our defense is very, very good. 6. McGee is a phenominal athlete and offeres some big play capability that Vincent doesn't. 7. Wire is not the answer at safety. 8. Placalling is so much better than last year I can't understand why people complain about it. Lastly, if you whiners expected anything less than a little difficulty with a new coach and revamped scheme, then you might as well go root for another team. That's just not realistic. Dropped ball 5. RB trips 6. Missed blocks 7. Run wrong patterns Over and over and over and over... all the positives you correctly listed is completely nullified by the repeated failure to deliver in crunchtime. Call people "whiners" all you want but I don't care how well a team knocks other guys off the ball, hit holes hard in the running game or has plenty of speed to beat the opposing team beat...none of this matters if they continually make costly mistakes at important parts of the game. GOOD teams don't do this, period. Also, you say you watched the 1st and 2nd quarters...I'm wondering how you could watch those quarters and come away with this D being "very very good"? Was it the 200+ yards passing that Brady put up against us in the first half? The constant blitzing we did with no results? What did you see that makes you say this? Boatdrinks Posted October 7, 2004 Share Posted October 7, 2004 Well, I re-watched most of the game and a few things stood out to me. Number ONE -penalties are killing us. We may not have the most in the NFL, but we've probably got the most in critical situations. Two-The Oline did play well. Drew had time to throw, even in the face of blitzesThe Oline play went downhill quickly after the injuries. Doesn't say much for our depth. The overall grade for the line was lowered by ..penalties once again. False starts at home are NEVER acceptable. Is it too much to know the snapcount? These were drive killers. Three-we have NO pass rush. We specialize in the "almost" sack. Schobel was M.I.A. again. At one point in the second half, we rushed 7 guys, only to watch Brady throw a 30 yard completion to Graham. We just don't seem to have the guys that can get there consistently. And the Pats nver miss a blitz pickup, unlike our guys. Maybe we should have let Schobel play out his contract this year. That has an amazing way of motivating players. Screw next season, we need sacks NOW. Schobel seems to have gotten comfortable. Not coincidentally, it was another game without a defensive INT. None of these are earth shattering revelations, just some things that stood out . I have to strongly disagree- this is a BAD team. Not so much in a physical sense, mostly mental. We don't play like winners. The worst part of watching the game was that you could almost write in the ending. Bills play tough, show good effort most of the game. The pressure heats up in the 4th quarter, and we wilt like hothouse flowers. Its a tired script around here. Mularkey needs to adopt a tough stance. You screw up, you don't play. That means Henry should sit- he's made so many mistakes already, and tripped over his own feet on the biggest third down of the year. Fletcher is killing us too. The K return by Mcgee should have been called back due to a block in the back by Fletch, watch the play again..you can't miss it. Glad the refs did. Allow me to suggest that you pass on watching the last 2 quarters... er, uh... at least the last quarter. I don't want to spoil it for you, but it doesn't have a happy ending. Unfortunately, for us Bills fans, the game lasts 4 quarters and not 2. Wouldn't that be interesting if the Bills could play a full 60 minutes? This team is 0 -3 and ranks miserably in areas like takeaways, sacks allowed, and sacks made; all crucial areas to winning NFL football games! Did your analysis include no pass rush from our base defensive package, the whereabouts of Pat Williams, Josh Reed's inability to separate from anybody let alone an NFL cornerback, the worst safety tandem in the league, and zero push from one of the largest offensive lines in league? Clearly the outcome of games is unacceptable. I'm not an idiot. But what else is clear is that the things that this team does right are quite good. If you get a new coach and scheme, you're going to go through growing pains. I see more potential with this team than I did in any of the GW years, and it's only Mularkey's 3rd game. It's only the players 3rd game under the new offensive system. I hate to break it to you folks, but when you get a new scheme WRs have a tendency to run incorrect routes, RBs have a tendency to make mistakes, and QBs have a tendency to throw to the wrong spot. You all have been watching football long enough to understand this. I'm not saying that people here shouldn't be frustrated, I'm just calling it as I see it. There are plenty of positives to this team, if you care to look at them. Of course, people like to remember the things that suck rather than the things that are good. However there are not enough positives to overcome the very significant negatives. The bottom line is they can't win. Can't win with that quarterback. Can't win with that line. Can't win with that coach. Can't win with that safety. Can't win with all of those stupid penalties. How do they fix that? Win. All the second guessing, whining, complaining, cheering and hooting and hollering will not effect anything until they get the discipline to play real football. They have the talent to go 500. Paco Posted October 7, 2004 Share Posted October 7, 2004 There are plenty of positives to this team, if you care to look at them. And that's really the gist of it all, when you get right down to it. Too many people, myself included somewhere around the beginning of the fourth quarter of each game, have a hard time seeing the silver lining; the good stuff that gets lost in the "loss" column. But at some point people have to at least TRY to see some of the positives. Otherwise, there's no reason to keep watching if you're convinced the team is going nowhere. Thanks for the post, Todd.
