Dan Posted June 8, 2006 Share Posted June 8, 2006 If you go to Detroit. You have to go to the Ole Sheleighlie (sp?) Irish Pub (it has a green banner) about a block west of the Greektown Casino. I was in Detroit this past winter for a week and we closed the place dowb everynight. It's a great bar! I didn't find the crime so bad. We walked back to the hotel every night (about 5 or 6 blocks) at about 3 or 4 am with no problems. However, somone was shot in the hotel the first night we were there. Buftex Posted June 8, 2006 Share Posted June 8, 2006 I have been to a couple of Houston Texans games (one against the Bills in 2002), but never to Detroit for a game. I will say, Reliant stadium is gorgeous, but it has no atmosphere whatsover, and Houston Texans fans (as Oiler fans before them, for the most part) are clueless. Also, the stadium is just kind of there, in the middle of the city, and it just doesn't feel like you are going to a football game. I would imagine, as lousy as the Lions are (and have been) for most of my 41 years on this planet, Detroit would be a better football experience. I have heard that Ford Field is supposed to be a spectacular place to see a game. The weather may be more agreeable in Houston, but for a football game, I would have to think Detroit would be a better experiecnce. I will be going to see the Bills play the Texans in November, and I am sure I will have a blast, but given a choice, I would go to D-town! Houston is a pretty cool city, but you have to be there long enough to "discover" it. If you are not familiar with it, and are just going to be there a few days, I suspect you won't come away feeling very good about the city. Also, the woman in the ticket office said in the last 2 years, only credit cards with an Illinois or Chicago area billing address will be served. 4 tickets per address/credit card. we may have to look through the tour operators for Chicago tickets.
