New NFL rivalry

After the Hutchinson mess, Seahawks signed Nate Burleson today to a seven-year, $49 million offer sheet. Based on the merely 5+ million signing bonus, the last few years of this contract are probably bogus with very high salaries.

The contract has two 'poison pills' that make the whole contract guaranteed if Burleson plays certain number of games in state of Minnesota or earns more than the highest-paid running back.

In short, NFL needs to do something on these 'poison pills' or Marv needs to put some 'poison pills' next time when he signs a RFA.

I agree the NFL needs sometihng to be done about thsoe provisions. They are complete bull sh--. Its fair to sign a RFA or a transition p[layer to a high first year cap number so the other team cant afford it, but these poison pills are bullcrap.

That being said, well done by the seahawks to stick it right back to the vikes. the vikes deserved this and so much more. The vikes now have no WR's. Possible moulds destination?

Check out the unique poison pill the Hawks used, involving if Burleson played in the State of Minnesota. Brilliant! We could have used something similar with the OG from Arizona making an offer outrageous but only in effect in Arizona. Oh well, hope Marv learns.

BITTER 'HAWKS BITE BACK WITH BURLESON

Mike Sando of the Tacoma News Tribune reports that the Seattle Seahawks have exacted revenge against the Vikings by signing receiver Nate Burleson to a seven-year, $49 million offer sheet containing two poison pill provisions intended to make a farce out of the poison pill that the Vikes used to wrest guard Steve Hutchinson away from the Seahawks earlier this week.

Per Sando, the deal becomes fully guaranteed if Burleson plays a certain number of games in the state of Minnesota, or if his average per-year salary exceeds the average annual wage of the highest-paid running back on the team.

A league source tells us that, from the Seahawks' perspective, the contract is a four-year, $14 million proposition, with $5.25 million in guaranteed money.

But, if the Vikings match the offer, it's the same total payout that the Seahawks would have been forced to swallow if they'd matched the offer that the Vikings made to Hutchinson

That's a good deal for the Seahawks...That 3rd round pick is the next to last pick in the round...almost a 4th rounder...NB is about to return to his 2004 form with Matt Hasselbeck throwing him the football. Be ready for an offensive explosion every week for seattle. They have playmakers!

Marv should have put a clause in Wells' contract that if it didn't snow in the home city before the season ends, the contract is guaranteed at 10 times the 2006 salary for the next 10 years.

Actually Marv has too much class to pull BS like that. It may not help in the short term, but in the long term it is the right thing to do.

With that said, I like that Seattle stuck it back to Minny. I really liked the state of Minnesota thing. They should have said: If he plays x number of games in the stojan-hole state of Minnesota.....just to make it more obnoxious.

the NFL didnt do jack after teh vikings put in that clause to steal the OG.

so teh seahawlks just did it right back.

the NFL is seriously droppign the ball on this. basically making it possible for one team to remove the transition tag, and/or restricted free agent status of someone they want.

complete bull sh--, and idiotic.

Mike Sando, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports the Seattle Seahawks offered the Minnesota Vikings a third-round draft choice in exchange for Vikings restricted free agent Nate Burleson. The Vikings demanded a second-round choice in return.

This is getting more interesting.

This latest news gets me confused.

Burleson is a RFA and Vikings give him a low tender, which means Vikings will receive Seahawks' 3rd round pick if they decide not to match Seahawks' offer sheet.

These trade rumors do not make sense.
