Steelers Star T.J. Watt Hospitalized With Lung Issue After Experiencing ‘Discomfort’ at Team Facility

 

Rumor mill says they were giving him pain killers and stuck the needle to deep, puncturing his lung.

Watt is currently in a local hospital for further medical evaluation of his lung after experiencing discomfort at the practice facility on Wednesday,” the team said in a statement released Thursday, December 11. “He will not be at practice on Thursday, and his status for Monday night’s game vs. Miami is in question. Coach [Mike] Tomlin will provide more updates at the appropriate time.” ESPN’s Adam Schefter later revealed that Watt, 31, first reported the injury while receiving an unspecified treatment before he was hospitalized.

Also hurts the Dolphins, because more meaningless wins for them will mean worse draft position, I guess? 

 

And also hurts the Patriots, if the Bills win on Sunday, because a motivated week 18 Dolphins team on an impressive late-season run could be formidable with momentum and nothing to lose?

 

And moreover, hopefully, helps ALL players by shining another light on player health and medical treatment, given that we've potentially seen this type of procedure-caused "injury" play out previously (and with MAJOR impact to the player in question: Tyrod Taylor of course)?

If this was the same Procedure Tyrod had, and it probably was, then that is lousy luck.. as an LPN, I have to question what safety protocols are in place to prevent this type of injury from happening.  Either way, I'm praying for a speedy recovery .

I HIGHLY doubt this had anything to do with pain killers being administered and "popping" a lung. You wouldn't be putting a local that deep and through the ribs. Locals aren't given that deep and neither are opioids or nsaids.

 

Maybe he had a pleural effusion and they were doing a thoracentesis. That very well could have done it, and it happens more frequently than you would imagine.

I experienced a sort of similar procedure decades ago, before MRI’s, that required precision and risks. Had to get myelogram injections in the ‘80’s, a spinal tap to inject dye into the spinal fluid. I had 3 done, one at a time, minimal pain med/anesthetic is given.

 

Basically you bite the bullet as the needle is inserted in and hope no nerve gets knicked, which mine weren’t, but they do get touched, mine did. It shoots pain bolts down your legs and causes hard back spasms but you cannot move from them, if you do the dye can leak and cause unbearable headaches, though some sort of headache is typical as most do move a little, and laying flat for 24hrs. afterwards is common to relieve it.

 

I got through it well and only had to lay flat for about 4hrs afterwards as I developed no headache at all.
